I'm curious to see what healers prefer to use when they solo. My Shillien Oracle reached mid-30s today with Wind Strike and Disrupt Undead, and they are still really strong (and will probably carry me until level 44 when I get the next healer nuke). What I'm pondering, however, is if it is beneficial or even better to melee as a healer. Possibly nuke from afar and then strike when monsters get close.
As I see it from a DE stand point, I can cast Empower on myself and I already have a high INT. This is good news for nuking. However, DE also have a high STR and buffs to complement melee attacks. Light armor mastery also helps with taking damage. So, as I said, I'm curious as to what you think. Melee or Nuke for healers who solo?
As a Healer you should probably be nuking, preferably in areas where monsters drop mana herbs to recover your mp while hunting. You shouldn't really melee, unless it's to finish off a low health mob and you don't want to waste more mp while you're low on mp.
As a mystic class you get no specific weapon mastery but a basic weapon mastery which increases m.atk of weapons more than it does p.atk, and as a Dark Elf with Empower you have very high m.atk anyway.
The only healer that could be considered for going melee with is the Human Cleric going Prophet/Hierophant, as they do not get any damage spells as Prophets/Hierophants (but most of the basic pre-Awakening buffs and heavy armor mastery) and depend on their weapon for any damage (despite weapon mastery still giving more m.atk than p.atk for them).
Hierophants are one of the three only mystic classes (Orc Doom Cryer and Dominator are the other two) who "evolve" to a fighter class on Awakening, i.e. as an Iss Enchanter.
Playing as healer.... try don't hunt solo.
Find a group and play as healer.
Healer solo @ swampland = 1 mob @ 45 seconds; 80 mobs/hour; 61.6M exp.... playing as healer in harnak 1 with random groups you will get at last 200m in one hour of exp
Solo, as you like, try heavy armor and dual swords.

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning more towards anyways. To be honest, I will probably continue to nuke because of the high M Atk. Like I said, I was curious. However, the concept of a "Battle SE" does sound kind of neat.
Actually, if you wanted to melee you wouldnt use a magic weapon at all. You would use a melee weapon...
Well, I was thinking with a magic sword, I would use a combo of nuking and melee. Nuke from a far and when mobs get close use a magic sword or something just to finish them off. But dual blades would probably be what I would use for full melee.

I wouldn't use heavy armor. A healer, if going melee, should use light armor...
@Colorado, please, stay on topic, the OP clearly said he's in MID 30'ihs, no way to think about swamps/harnak 3 for now...
and, forget about melee, really, why waste 1min to kill a mob, being heavy hurted (yes, 'cause DE mages are a squishy class) while you can get down the mob in 5sec? just follow the quest series till the 2nd job (for mobs that arent undead, your wind strike is more than enough to deal with, no worry). After 40, when you get the Inquisitor skill set, yum yum, welcome to fast xp/kills: higher magic crit and killing with 2 hits! You can even try aoe after 58 (I was doing it in devasted castle, in doom archers spot: bless the blood urself, hit 1 mob, then run, hit another, keep running, when I was with 5+ mobs chasing me, then turn to divine flash and voilà, yum yum loot+xp). Ofc, the archers must be killed firstly and fast.

Iss Enchanters ARE fighters.
Thanks to my dear Tiffy for noticing that mistake. :D
Iss Enchanters are not fighters.
Again? They are fighters, no objections allowed.
To the OP: meleeing is just a waste, nuking all the way to 85 is the way. If you happen to stumble upon a ToI group, lucky you, but nowadays they're almost dead, so you'll need to hunt in mage-friendly spots (mana herbs drops).

Oh,i'm sorry?
Maybe i lost my mind,i wanted to write that they are! :D
I'm lost in space forgive me! :D
I had a boxed female SE. She used dual swords, Light Armour, cast stigma and made every effort to beat the life out of those mob while I nuke. Just watching her root, stigma and run up just jiggling away was worth every Adena I spent on her. I'm not sure she did much in melee damage, but she was hours of pleasure watching her.
