Lineage 2 Retro

First off, I realize that this has a 0.1% chance of being read, let alone implemented, however I just really want to talk about this topic, and suggest a few things.

Logging into Lineage 2 today, and thinking back to how it used to be, is like playing a completely different game, probably a worse game at that. Over the years, it seems that Lineage 2 progressively went against it's own interests in general in terms of gameplay, and although the old Lineage 2 was primarily just a grindfest, it was still an enjoyable experience, and hell even though 1-76 is now null, the game afterwards is still the same old grind, just a lot less fulfilling, in my opinion.

I'm mainly writing this to reminisce on a few things. To start, I really don't know the purpose behind implementing a "Common item" system to make acquiring items easier, as this essentially dismantles the entire economy of the game for whatever grade Common items are available, which is just about all of them. I can remember a time when saving enough money for top no-grade armor was a big deal and made achieving D-grade significantly easier, as Lv.1-20 wasn't a 20 minute process as it is now with the new tutorial. Moreover, saving up ~3,000,000 and purchasing your long awaited Brigandine helmet to finally complete your item set bonus, it meant something. There was a whole economy, a lush of player interaction and a living, thriving, vibrant market flourishing, with every moment being an opportunity to make some cash flipping items. You could hear shouts regularly about selling top no-grade, it was a very common thing, and I do miss seeing it, as no-grade was an experience, something you worked hard to achieve, and now it feels very "dead."

I think Lineage could of been great, and that the various "fixes" that have been implemented could have been done in a different way to make the game more enjoyable without completely destroying essential functions of the gameplay in general. For example, instead of completely ruining the leveling experience from 1-40, with a generic, poorly written storyline, destroying of every newbie city, and boring quest line consisting of kill x, x times. You could of simply kept things the way they were, but just replaced all the ridiculously unworthy quests found littered in every city, with coherent, well thought out quest lines to go along with every nearby hunting zone to a village, as it was, but as I said, not as ridiculous as "Hey, please kill 40 wolves, at level 1, and you can have 300 adena."

Anyways, my point to all of this is that, sometimes I dream that the staff here could just open up a sort of "Retro" server, perhaps in C3. There's a huge array of players playing on private servers from C1-Interlude all scattered about, 100-200 on each server, a horrible experience. I think it would be amazing to play old school Lineage 2 again on a C3 server with maybe just a quick fix of 5-10% XP/adena drop rates, to make new players tolerate the grind/difficultly of obtaining items in general.

Yup, deep down I fantasize about once again traveling the necropolis' and catacombs, with 15 monsters behind me, ready to fake death next to an unsuspecting player, to overwhelm/kill them, and hopefully gain one of the items that they have dropped upon death... remember when you actually dropped items on death? Man... people used to call eachother carebears in C3+, now with GoD, this is literally universal carebear game. Don't even get me started on this new PK system.........

Again, I know this thread doesn't mean anything, but it's just a dream, hell I'd be willing to pay $15.00/month to play on an official C3 server again, as uncommon as that may be... who knows...

Also, I couldn't even believe when I first logged in, but it is just hilarious logging in at Goddard and literally seeing the same bot spamming to go to an adena selling website, and he was not chatbanned, I mean there was seriously a bot in Goddard, avoiding chat ban for an extended period of time, making chat completely impossible to read because of how fast this guy was spamming, it was crazy. Get your s*** together, L2, give me back my C3.

I also added a poll because I am genuinely curious if there is anyone else that looks at these forums that misses the "old L2" enough to want to play it again, at it's former glory.
Use the search button
to state the obvious which you could have known if you used ze search button but Sace has said many many times NCWest will not open any server that's not on the latest client from Korea.

I also added a poll because I am genuinely curious if there is anyone else that looks at these forums that misses the "old L2" enough to want to play it again, at it's former glory.

Polls on this forum as useless, because you have certain people that have more than one account and if they don't want something to "win" will just vote over and over for the cause of their choice.

There are numerous people that want this, so you are not alone, but the forums of L2 are like at best 20 percent of the total population that play this game. Look at the top posters as you can what goes on in the forums, every idea is debated no matter if it makes sense.

Bots, rlmt are not something NC wants but yet doesn't do enough to stop, big reason the same companies that started this game are gone, all patches are now from Korea so any fix has to be weeks or months to fix.

I hope this helps you in anyway possible, nothing is going to change and not because it can't or it's not a good idea, but because its not the same game and company in controls as it once was.

BEside your nonsense, do you realize nothing will happen and it is not because of the forum, of NCSoft, or of bots ? :D

So who is it, the all mighty knowledge of Lineage2? Who has the power you so speak of? Pretty sure it's Korea now, which I stated in my nonesense, although if you look at devolpers you are sure to find those people are gone. So is it really nonesense or fact?
L2 will never have classic servers simply for this reason:

We've wanted other protection tools not conected to gameguard but NOBODY from the staff has even considered this tool to be anywhere near useless and they will keep using.

Now take a moment to think and tell me, are they gonna put a classic server just because we want? No.

We eat what we get, not what we demand.
seeing how this will never happen on an official nc soft server I predict padlock incoming by the time Sace had a chance to read this topic..

Ahhh...the romanticizing...

The game was good, for about 8 months, then the cheating started. Account sharing was producing higher level characters that blocked out leveling areas and fun for a lot of players. Then someone got the bright idea of selling adena because money in the game was hard to get. Then the little "rang rang" guys showed up setting crazy prices in the game and then ebaying the profits online. Prices shot up on the market because it was no longer driven by supply in demand, it was driven by RMT.

Players started to assimilate the worst possible behaviors as the proper way to play due to a shortage of cash. The necropolises were introduced and Training became the new way to make money. Sending trains of mobs on an unsuspecting player and then gathering anything of value the poor schmoe might have dropped so that you can try to quickly sell it to earn some money. Scamming people for whatever you can became a good market to be in.

Then the botting started....

See, the thing is...no one liked the game the way it was. In it's purity, Lineage 2 is a great game, but it's had to be modified so much because everyone was interested in the quick fix, taking advantage of others, and getting ahead by any means necessary. No one has any common sense about how to make an online world work. Everyone will take the easy way out or be crushed by those that do. The game had to be refitted to fit the majority of players. The lazy, the weak, and the greedy. And it seems that you just want it be back to the old exploitable way it used to be.

Good luck with that...

Again with this retro server poll/thread?

No, thank you.
Very similar another thread (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=243949), this topic and poll is fine for the sake of discussion, but there are no plans to host official servers of any game version other than the latest one. Less unlikely, developers might decide to change the game and bring back (and probably revamp) some old game systems. Moving this thread into General Discussion as the suggestion of opening servers in different game versions is thus not feasible.
Touching post...I'm moved.

To answer the topic question/poll.....no, I wouldn't. I played since C1 myself, quitting a few years ago, only to return this past January when I googled L2 just to see what's going on, or if it's even still alive. I really enjoyed the old game..somewhat miss it..and notice how it's changed. But like anything in life, that's the way it is..can't bring back the past, you can only deal with the present and look forward to the future...good or bad. It is what it is, like it or hate it. If you compare to what it was, you'll disappoint yourself. Never will there be an "official" retro server etc.. like Sace has said, but if there was, I wouldn't play on it. Why would I? Like all others here since GoD, I've had so much handed to me, and have progressed in the game so far, why would I want to start fresh, and put so much time and effort in, for so little reward now, when I've allready been there/done that? If I'm gonna grind til my joints hurt again on a game other than the one I'm in, it will no way be the same game I'm playing.

Nice to remember the past, but like those old guys hanging out in a college age nightclub to feel young again...it just doesn't work.
