Is mana a big issue with mages in lineage 2? i want to start lvling my 44 SpS but i hated sitting and waiting for mana and i heared in TOI mana doesnt drop so how do you get around waiting 15, 20mins for mana to recharge only to use it in 5mins?
Kookaburra or pet from shop or even hunting in areas where mana herbs drop.
Or box a recharger.

Not really an issue with mentor buffs tho.
After awakening, there is no mana issue. BtM with 15s reuse time changed a lot.
If you like mage, go until 85 and check yourself.
you just need a mentor
Yes, you have to manage your mana in this game... otherwise you would be overpowered. Mana Pots drop in solo grind areas, MP Elixirs can be bought and crafted depending on your level. Pets and servitors can be acquired to assist in your mana regeneration and/or replenishment.

Bottom line is the game is not intended to be very easy and many aspect of the game require you to use resources efficiently or perish.

I used the search function and found this great answer... yeah I used cut and paste.

That's not a great answer. Since mages can only legitimately do damage by casting spells they can't be considered as managing their resources.

This resources comment was meant for physical classes who can still do very good damage just by autoattacking and therefore can choose between using an autoattack or using a skill.

It may also be used to refer to healers who have to choose between using a group heal, single target slow heal, single target fast heal, hp balance, major heals, or full restoration.

Basically if your class has options then this comment was meant to apply to you. But when your options boil down to Nuke or Nuke then you can't be considered as having an option creating resouce management and so this comment doesn't apply to you.

And that was probably one of the huge design flaws that made mages terrible classes to bring in a party before GoD.
I would argue that resource management comes into play even with straight-up nukers in that you can choose which skills you want to use and with what frequency. The nuker who spams all skills as soon as they are refreshed and seldom or never uses Body to Mind is choosing to "manage resources" in a way that maximizes burst DPS at the expense of sustainable play.

I will agree that there was a severe problem with mage DDs and grouping prior to GoD. The mana situation wouldn't have been so dire with Mana Gain, Mass Recharge, Sublime, and BoE being available to parties except that mages were just really awful choices for a lot of top-level PvE content at one point due to areas such as Hellbound being full of mobs with ridiculous mdef and magic debuff resistance. A nuker could run dry in no-time simply because it was inflicting only a fraction of the damage with nukes that physical DDs were doing on auto-attack.
Of course you will chose burst dmg over anything. It is like suggesting these old dagger party set ups in Hellbound not using half kills, so just that they can kill for longer auto atacking.

Currently there are no problems for feohs with mana. A mana problem can come if your healer or summoner is lazy. Most of the healers think they should recharge while healing, but not in between the rest periods and they will complain that they have no time to recharge. In fact the most popular areas or dungeons have some rest period of at least 10 seconds. I am going to give you examples:
- kartia between rounds
- fortuna between rounds or at the easy rounds
- spezion between the pulls
- soa between pulls
- any aoe place between pulls
- teredor when the boss runs out

The only 2 places I have been so far where the healer is fully engaged is stronghold 2 party and Harnak... although at harnak you still have few seconds available between the spawns.

And I would argue this is incorrect.

If you are in a AOE party you ought to be using your AOEs and your AOEs ought to be useable all the time as that is their purpose for being.

If you are in a single target party/situation you ought to be using your single target spells.

That is just obvious and has nothing to do with managing resources. And in the case where for some reason you can't use your AOEs all the time in a situation that calls for the application of AOEs and the situation is such that to a normal person it is obvious that AOEs ought to be used then the AOEs need to be redesigned by making their MP cost lower or MP regeneration higher.

In neither case is that resource management, it is simply making sure you aren't using an axe to dig a hole and a shovel to chop wood. A Tyrr who wants to AOE uses a polearm, a mage who wants to AOE uses a AOE spell.

This is even more acutely obvious for mages in the lower levels where your AOE spells do less damage and you only have one real single target nuke that you spam like no tomorrow. A spellsinger isn't managing her resources when she spams hydroblast. She is simply playing her class normally when she spams hydroblast as she has no other real way of doing sufficient damage. Hydroblast and whatever the AOE spells are called are a Spellsinger's autoattack. Hydroblast is the sword and the AOE spell is the polearm.
