Holy $#&* fix chronos

It started lagging horribly for most people about an hour ago and has not stopped. It's unplayable for oly and siege, how about a restart.
I'd really love to know WHAT can be done to force the ever-missing management of NCwest to wake up during the peak playing hours on a siege weekend, log in the game and watch for a while what's going on on the servers.

But I doubt we'll ever hear anything other than "we're sorry for inconvenience, but the server hamster is WORKING AS INTENDED".

It's the same for Naia. I don't know how I managed to complete Fortuna almost with no deaths...
What exactly is a restart? The GMs don't pop on and say, "Hey guys, we are going to restart the server." like they do in the private server. They would do an emergency server maintainance when there is supposed to be a fix for an existing known problem that is recognized by support. Lag is a known thing on the official servers, but it's not a problem that is affected by all, so they will not fix it. Why? because they are convinced that it's not a server problem but an ISP problem.
Been my assumption for awhile they share resources between the inactive servers and the high pops to balance out traffic spikes.

When Bartz came down the large pops started having problems.

In case you want to share your precious knowledge of how it's done on private servers, no thanks we don't need to hear your confessions.

But if you want to share your views on how it should be done on official servers, no thanks we don't need to hear that either, becase we know how it's done.
Yes there are times when in-game announcement pops up, and a GM informs players of the server restart due to emergency. Just telling you, in case you're new and didn't know.

You know that posting unrelated commonplace messages, along with rhetorial reasonings is called derailing the thread/trolling?

I am aware of the forum rules. I have received plenty of warnings about it. But, it's really up to Sace if there is an infraction. But as far as the messages go before an emergency maintainence, the messages are formal and official instead of the usual "Dudes, I am going to restart the server." However, the truth does hurt and I am sorry that you, personally, prefer not to hear it. But, since, a forum is an open ..... um forum, as long as I stick with the forum rules, I can type anything that pertains to the subject at hand. And, I do believe that it's too late to go after people who partook on the private servers, as I can guess that 75% of the population did. Oh, and I do apologize if my post seem like trolling. I do hope you have a great day.
Well... The server gets restarted when it goes down and the "restart crew" (word of Sace) is thrown into the battlefield to restart it.

Obviously, no announcements whatsoever.

So one guy is hitting magic button described as "restart". :P
yeah, server crashes are annoying and I'm sure we would like to know why it happens. But, it doesn't annoy me because I really don't have anything time wise or money (I quit buying stuff from the store a long time ago) invested into this game. If it crashes on me, then I go do something else and come back later. Nothing to serious for me, really.

...then why do you keep posting???

---------------------------------

just an observation:

Each and every friggen time when a problem is detected and people start to discuss it, there's at least one idiot who just feels an urge to jump into the debate and share his deep thoughts with everyone:
"Hey guys I bet there's something wrong with you all, because I am not having this problem! Ok in fact I was not there and I don't even play that game and I don't have a clue what you are talking about but I don't see the problem therefore it doesn't exist! And if it does, it still doesn't bother me!! It's just you!!!"

You think my thoughts are deep? Thank you :) I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope they sure fix this problem. People are sure angry about it. )
Another general observation:
- let's say there are a few thousands of players on the server;
- when server-side lag occurs, maybe a thousand of them can feel the inconvenience, while all the rest are either afk or not doing anything special/not paying attention;
- out of that thousand, maybe a hundred of people will feel angry enough to manifest it in the game chat (when there's something really serious going on, you can check hero shouts to find out if the problem is global or local);
- out of that angry hundred, only a few people will find the time to come to the forums and inform the community of their current problems;
- out of those few forum posters, probably just one or two (most likely, no one) will submit a petition to tech support.

(Yes people are lazy. However, I'd like to note that I've just submitted a report on some other issue, and it took me half an hour to scramble through all the web forms, password prompts, ridiculously distorted captchas, and other encumbrances. Now I regret of the time I spent there.)

Resume: you can't estimate severity of the problem judging just by the number of complaints. This number is nothing but the tip of the iceberg.
True 100%

Also i was so angry when sace come and say the gameguard problem was just a few people. **** mind blow, almost act like angry Russian kid :D

But that is other history.

Jeez, thats not a random illegal private server. No one will make here a restart just because someone is lagging. Remember that, please. And welcome to official server :)

all players from my clan on naia ( more than 30 players online ) were lagging badly yesterday night after 00:00 and i personal logoff .even the chat was lag as hell .

is this something personal when this lag suffers all members in a clan ?

Yeah, 3 whole clans were lagging badly. But that's a problem of just a few people...
wow, clans lagging? When? During siege? I like to go out on a limb here but...... game guard errors..... server crashing.... clans lagging (if during the sieges)..... perhaps maybe they are revamping the anti-cheat system. Just a guess. I, fortunately, haven't experienced any lag so I guess I am the lucky one.
Sieges? My party was doing instances, and most of my clannies too. And I kept reading complaints from people from 3 different clans. Not to mention hero chat.

And there were no sieges in Naia, afaik...
Yeah and I was getting NPC lag while trying to get buffs from Oly manager. It means it was not internet-related lag; it was clearly something misfunctioning at the NC data center.
There was no siege at that moment.

And then during the Oly fights, there were random freezes/lag spikes, which made it impossible to play normally. My opponents said they were experiencing the same.
Yeouch!! Getting tossed out during instances is annoying. I didn't know if there were sieges last night in Naia, as I don't play on that server. I have to say that if NCSoft don't get their servers stablized, no one will buy timed and exp items for fear of wasting money on time not playing.
My party wasn't tossed out, we were able to finish Fortuna and Kartia. But it was unplayable, lots of freezes and I kept my fingers crossed while spamming heals.

Hey superstar, I've been on retail since Jan '09, so save the BS for yourself. They have indeed restarted the servers in the past when there is a global issue, or at the very least they have tried to find another work around. More importantly, you can sometimes get a faster response to this stuff from making forum posts than you can sending in a petition that throws back an automated response.
chronos down
Oh noes: Chronos goes down again!
server almost gets more sleep then i do
it was obvious chronos was gonna crash with the amount of lag been happening all day
darn server ;(
any admin around to up this piece of lagged #$%# ?
aaahahahahahahahahahahaha! Funstuffs. I was in the middle of a field of mobs. I hope they didn't eted meh. lol ahahahahahahahaha
Lag and server crash are unreleated in the vast majority of cases.

Ncsoft might be getting DoS attacks. Who knows.
The tech teams know about the crash and have been working on fixing it since it started. Also, regarding the high frequency of server crashes lately, know that we are investigating them so we can determine if there are specific causes we can fix.
just crashed again

Yea I hear ya, but not in this case. The lag the other night was some of the worst I've ever experienced on retail, and today the lag was back and the server just crashed out twice back to back.
Server not up 5 minutes and crashed again back to back and is still down.
LOL Server down, RB UP, Server Down again xD
The server is back online and stable now. :)
This past Sunday ( 11-18-12 ) siege day on chronos, was so laggy even before the start of the siege that it took me 15 min to get from the Gludio Gate to the siege field, then once the siege actually started me, my clan, and EVERYONE else was complaining they couldnt move. For the 1st 30 mins of the siege all i could do was chat and even that took 3 mins to show up in chat window, Now this is NOT an ISP problem...this is a server problem and NC really need to get it together and hire COMPETENT ppl as this and a host of other things going on is getting really really aggrevating. 3 nights in a row ( i play during graveyard hours alot of times ) the NPC/Mob server kept screwing up and i was in the middle of "SoA Nursery", i spent cash on 200% 1 hr xp runes and a 50% 1 hr Nevitts rune and out of that hour i was lucky if i got 10 mins worth of it cuz there were NO MOBS spawning. I can usually get between 2200-3100 Tissue turn in's and i only was able to turn in 254-468 Tissues. This not only wasted my time but MY MONEY and i want and expect compensation for the money i put out. So for all you ppl saying you didnt have any lag or NPC problems, all i can say to you is: You must have one hell of a computer and gratz to you, cuz the rest of us noticed it and we all cant be wrong ( and im talking Thousands of ppl not just a few ). Never in the History of me playing L2 has the lag/ NPC's ever been that bad ( been playing since 6-13-04 ) so yes...it is server side not ISP.
The server is back online and stable now. :)

"STABLE"......HA!!! ...ill be the judge of that.

And ummm Sace...do you even play the game or are you just the Forum Moderator?...In your own words tell me the meaning of "Stable" plz ;)
"Stable" is a relative term...

I'm sure NCSoft West would love to hire more people, if they had the funding. Businesses run on a budget. I don't claim to know how much they have in the budget but I do know that businesses do run on them. Now, I'm sure there are people in Seattle that are capable to run the servers or they would have been one of the people they let go the last lay offs. But, I can bet there are plenty of people who love the game so much that they would work for free to keep it running. Who wants to volunteer their time? :D I'm sorry you lost money on the crash and we all hope they would compensate everyone on their losses. Crashes are fun to me, I just love to watch the chaos and angry mobs gathering at the gates.

Good to know.

So, it's Friday night atm (Saturday's morning for some of us), peak hours for some players, but Chronos is dead again.
Do we get any compensation for today's hour of downtime?
Broken game is broken and the GM's dont care a single bit.
so im thinking who is going to pay me for the rune that im wasting right now without npcs?ncsoft im waiting for an answer over 3hrs without npcs.
The server is back online and stable now

So, it's 2 hours of downtime on Friday.
Great job as always.
And it's just the beginning of the weekend. What should we expect next?

You better start thinking of proper compensation, now.
I Call 2 times asking for solutions to my ISP and all my speed tests were correct, only had lag in Lineage II
My question is "why are you guys applying runes and timed items when you know the server is going to do it again?" I think our ex-fearless leader George Dubya Bush said it best: "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." It works on so many levels.

Might I suggest not applying items until you know for sure, ABSOLUTELY SURE that the server will not crash again. If not, then you are just gambling with your money.

Im not from Chronos but, i got the same answer from mine:) only L2 is lagging like nuts.

maybe becouse its a 7day rune...
Down again down again down again

Let's see how much time it will take them to get it back up.
Yup its down !
So it's Friday and the lag is back, any info if something is being done? The Dallas hops all have high ping for a lot of people. But that seems to be constant, even when the lag isn't too bad. The lag becomes crippling when the server reaches near capacity.

We've been looking at our servers, hardware, and connections, and traceroute and PingPlotter reports from both employees and players. All we've found is a few instances of packet loss in ISPs on the way to our servers but still outside of NCSOFT realm. As it stands now, with a lack of confirmed issue within our NCSOFT network, there is little we can do. :( As tickets and traceroute reports come in we continue to investigate, so if the source is found we will be able to move forward a bit.

Yea but the problem is that the ping on the test isn't really jumping when the horrid lag sets in (I'm not sure why), but the server just becomes unplayable. It's always during start of Oly on Chronos and then for like 3 hours until many of the Euros go to bed.

If they have not already, ask the ppl researching this to log into Naia or Chronos right around the start of Olympiad and they will see the issue first hand.
Um as everyone that has done your job and did the trace routes and ping logger tests that you have asked has ALL shown the packet loss is directly at your end so how can you say its not. and you yet again keep saying ISP I guarantee my cable ISP isn't the same as someone from Brazil or Germany so please give up on the ISP blame game. when the servers are at capacity the lag is almost unplayable. why don't you leave the office and go play the game at someone's house and tell us how it works instead of being plugged directly into it.
The real problem is NC needs to spend some of the donation money, opps I mean shop money and upgrade whatever needs it and hire some bot banners, simple as that.
No, NCSoft needs to contact the backbones where the packet loss is showing.

Being that this is an online game, the games lively hood relies solely on the internet. Basically if internet is broke, no players, therefore in my opinion if NCSoft is showing random packet loss throughout different isp's that doesn't mean that those different ISP's aren't sharing the same backbone. If I recall there is really only 3 major backbones. If the route is compromised, the backbone needs to be contacted so that their staff can work on the problem.

I had the same issues back in 2008 and my ISP reached out to the network which the packet loss was occurring and the problem was resolved within 30 days.

Ye, if these hop issue aren't dealed with fast, this game won't have a future. People are playing with the lag cause in an oficial game that is something that is eventualy fixed, if it's not, one can kiss the playerbase bb, no point in playing what is broken.

So NC contact whoever you have to contact about this, nothing about this is a coincidence.

ain't that the truth.. haven't been able to play decently for almost 3 weeks now..

but hey they won't notice their actual player base leaving as it only means there's going to be room for a few more bot trains..
Bump, still a problem
Laaggg too much lag!!!
Honestly I believe NCSOFT should go back to P2P with this game, I bet they gained more money that way so they could stabilize the servers better and also it would control the amount of people that would actually be logged on. NCSOFT you have a +1 to go to P2P from me.

They make more money on the F2P style, so don't hold your breathe. Still doesn't excuse the poor performance of the servers/network.
