Camped raidbosses, did quests, grinded mobs in a large variety of different areas. IT WAS AWESOME!
However, 85-86 and 86-87 and 87-88 was the most unenjoyable experience I've ever had in a videogame.
I had to login everyday and will myself into doing these god awful daily quests, or sit there and grind on mobs giving me 0.005% exp in 1 of 2 solo exp spots, or do a party group that lasted for no more than 10mins in h3/soa.
All the raidbosses give **** exp now.
I play olympiad/CoC and get completey annihilated by healers and buffers, but hey at least the other classes are at least somewhat fun to fight against.
Reminds me of WoW, and I quit WoW 7 years ago to play L2.
Well yea.. almost time to say goodbye to World of Lineage 2, unless ofc 90-95 is a tad more exciting.
Btw, I went from playing 12+ hours a day 1-85, using the nc coin shop for some stuff, and not needing to play another game for weeks...... to then finishing all the **** I need to do on l2 (which takes 2-3 hours per day for k85group, k85solo, soa, swamplands quest, freya, zaken, teredor, nursery) then logging out and playing a different game until my daily **** quests reset. No need for nc coins, cuz there is no omgad I haveto buy this right now for extra xp on this or that mob, or w/e else feeling. No raidboss to camp, because it is all easy mode instanced.

If you thought 80 to 88 was a grind wait until you hit 90 where the REAL grinding starts. :D

I'm in a clan and they've shared the length it takes to level. However, they keep telling me there is all this **** to do 90+ and 95+, too much **** infact.
Well too bad I'm stuck in the most awful and unenjoyable exp'n range of the game I guess? 85-90?

A clan helps, but L2 has always been a grinding game because those are the types Korean players want.
With the launch of GoD the game is easier than ever to play. When I started in 2003 it took 6 months just to get to level 40 and several days to do your class change quest. :D
Alas all that fun ended when Interlude was updated to Kamael.

Grinding was fun, but now no one wants to grind. They just log in to do daily quests and then they log out until they reset. The only grind now is a daily quest grind, log in for a few hours and do all your dailies, then log out. The actual player vs mobs grind has been basically removed from the game.
I grind in an aoe type fashion, fastest I've seen, and I get 0.005% per mob, leading to 2% per 1hour. 12 hours, like I was playing is 24% of nonstop grinding. Where do I grind now? Swamplands. Who do I see next to where I'm grinding? 100 3-7 24/7 man bot trains.
Same trains have been there for 2 weeks.
I do 2 hours of daily quests, and make what I would in about 6-8 hours of grinding. These two things defeat the purpose for me to even put forth the effort into grinding.
Why grind mobs? Just grind daily quests. No need for NC coins, go play a different game til your dailies reset. Like almost all legit players do.
I used to like L2 more then it was a grind and I still enjoy the grind because I hate games where you level so fast you are done in a month. FOr me sitting down and grinding mobs for a few hours is an enjoyable thing and can do it with ease.
The biggest disappointment for me was NCSoft making everything instanced and adding daily quests, now there is hardly any open world stuff anymore.
Plus these servers are poorly managed to begin with, that's why I went to the Euro L2 server run by Innova. I keep returning to these forums because I like reading the drama and problems players are always having here. :D

Big +1 on this.
I really miss old FoG/DV/LoA aoe parties, also clan vs clan pvp for regular raids (not just Antharas/Valakas).

I second that. Too many bots around, and we all know where they stay. I think only NC$oft doesn't. I saw a BOT CLAN the other day grinding adena like crazy deep in anthara's lair. It was fun to kill the healer and watch them die to the mobs. And not a single one tried to attack me in retaliation. Why, I wonder??? Hmm... And they just stayed there. Dead. For some several minutes. After which I just got bored with the grinding and left the place.
Another thing to be considered: Some classes ( like the Destroyer I started recently) have a hard time grinding because they have to kill a few mobs and sit down to rest if they have no healer around. Potions are just useless ( and of course that is on purpose, or healers would be useless). It's a pain in the *** to be using A or S grade stuff and DEPEND on a party and someone else's mentor buffs/regular buffs to grind. I can do nothing alone in this game unless I kill, sit for 1 or 2 minutes, repeat. Battle Roar won't heal me because it doesn't stack with other buffs...
While I understand they tried to make the game more co-op than solo, at least they could have made it something less COMPLETELY co-op dependant for some classes. Give a bonus for those who are playing in parties, but consider that players don't stay on 24/7 (unless they are bots) and can't always make a party of friends to go grinding together.
And that was another reason why I gave up on my mage. No mana, and you're in places like Tower of Insolence where no herbs drop? And all the other places give a miserable xp? Well, you can always sit in the middle of a crowd of mobs to replenish your mana. Sit and cry, my friend.
the grind is not gone from the game. you just need to find the right party which is difficult because most people just do their dailies and logoff.. ive spent a few days grinding at stronghold and i get very good xp. i just hit 90 today.
Untill lvl 94 the grind isn't so sense deprived, but after 94 and 95 it just becomes pointless to go exp nomatter in pt or solo. if you have NC coins and perma vit, at best you'll get 1% an hour at 95, which at 96 becomes 0.5%, then 0.25% at 97 and so on. And again 95-97 there are only 2 places you can go hunt if you're so bored, you decide to grind - Orbis Temple or GF. The only not so boring place is Altar of Shilen, but it opens so rarely, that if you w8 for it, it will take a whole year to get a lvl up.
Anyone that has played any of the current top 10 PVP games and is looking for L2 PVP fun, will be very disappointed. Lineage 2 PVP by design is and always has been a grind. This grind makes it very hard for a legit player to PVP. Why, let me tell you why, a person 3 - 5 levels higher will win 97% of the time. Exception is a really bad PVP player. So if you play for fun, you play legit, and you like to PVP, you WILL be disappointed with L2. If you like to PVE and hang with your clan and are not interested in leveling fast there are a lot of things to do in game between Level 1 and 90. All free. However leveling after 90 becomes progressively slower each level. Why, well let me tell you; one is simply the game design, and two is all the automated parties of 7 toons taking all the spots 24/7. You try to move in on a spot, get ready for a trip back to the nearest town. Leaving you to play dailies and trying to figure out how to get the next higher grade of armor or weapons to further play the game. RMTs love you to play dailies only; Go figure. So playing 1-90 is a lot of PVE fun, its free, enjoy.
My 2 cents
It took me 4 moths to awake, and im playing since the 2nd week of the server and today Im only lvl94.5 and yes gets hard, I wont lie, I dont bot and as a person with live Ic ant play more than a few hours per day, But I love my progress, and I dont come and make QQ threads saying is too hard, this is not a game for everyone... for that go play wow. this is a game hard to play.
If want easy play wow or just single player RPGs. those are fun too.
I made Duskhail back in c1, and just hit lvl 90 today. I have probly logged 10,000 hours on him. I did allot of grinding and questing, but mainly socializing. Standing around in towns talking to people, or running around the land checking out the scenery.
If i'd been focused on trying to gain top levels and gear id definietly have been burnt out long ago. Lots of other reasons to play the game and keep playing, just gotta find if they appeal to you.
Here's the sad part. The people who tell you 85-90 wasn't that bad are ones who botted there. People who I thought were legit weren't. They don't play much more than I do and are 95 or higher. Come to find out they didn't literally sit there and do it. The majority of players are giving up and joining the masses. It goes unchecked and the majority are doing it. They pat themselves on the back regardless. As people I like them, but as players who aren't legit I don't see anything to proud of there.
I refuse to stoop that low or risk my account just for the sake of levels. You are right I am so sick of the same old daily instances that don't really pay out much. I started playing my subs or an alt more just because I am that lamed out with it.
You're talking rubish, m8. The reason 85-90 WAS easy is the fact that Teredor used to be killable at 5 mins reuse, not only once a day like now. It also used to give very good exp (and bonus with vitality) and 89-90 doable in 1 day if you had the nerves to do 12-14 hours Teredor runs.

yeah WAS being the key word here. The settings you are talking about was like a year ago.
The discussion is about the current things to do before 90, not how you USED to get to 90.
you guys abviously never spend 8 hours of grind in cruma tower at level 35 in C1... (+5%)
nowadays this game is a total joke when it comes to grinding.
wish the good old times back when you pked someone that ****** you off and crushed 1 week of exp work by that. THAT is real QQ drama :)

I liked the grind in L2 back when I had the time to grind. But now that I have trouble rounding up enough time to peruse the forums and do the dailies I am glad that they took some of the grind out of L2.
The main problem in daily quests and instances is... people login, play their dailies and logout.
What is left for us after that? Grind out and get 1% in 5 hours? It would be fine if it wasn't for the bots everywhere.
If you don't like the dailies you won't make it past 85 and should definitely quit the game, because there are only more and more as you level up, and as it is still by far the fastest way to get xp legit, you have to do them if you expect to level. To do all my dailies at 96 takes several hours a day, maybe 3 or so. I've also kept track of what gives the most xp, so I can rank what to do first. Kartia solo, 0.44% (does not require vit for full xp, thank god). Spicula raid 0.3, EG 0.25, fortuna 0.24, sos 0.2x, etc etc. Uh I think if I do everything I can do in a day or nearly so, I'll make about 3% with no vit, and I usually try to have mentee on and 3% blessing thing. No matter what I make a point of doing kartia solo every day nearly without fail because it gives the most xp and doesn't require me to find or form a party. Then if I have time I add in one or more other instances.
Still, that is better than back in the day when we would grind 4 hours for 1%. No vit ever, no mentees, no runes, no blessings. And if you die in pvp it's -1%, so dying cost a lot of time to get xp back. And this was completely non-instanced, so all xp occured in non-safe zone where we could be ganked at any time, and had to have full party of 9 people always absolutely including sws bd cardinal and warcryer. That was in the days of 61-75. Then, I was literally 79 for over a year, and that was when I solo'd a lot more, infact I solo'd or duo'ed with my SE almost exclusively to 85.99 before GoD. at one time you only got xp bonus for the first hour you were logged in, so I always left myself full buffed and ready to go outside the instance zone at that time, and the first thing I did every day when I logged in was xp for that hour. There is a bit more flexibility now.
So, the current situation isn't worse, but it's not any better if you don't like instances. However, depending on how I'm feeling I can do a different instance or quest. Some are high stress and some not, some solo and some not. But, the game remains to be what you make of it, and there a hundred different things you can do at any one time. But if you are getting only 1% in 5 hours, need to change spots. Depending on level, there are various places you can go to maximize xp. And if you don't like bots, then grief them; any summoner or feoh can put on a dot to reduce their hp, then watch them die. That's always amusing.
actually, there's no place to level up in the range 85-95 (safely and continuous, i mean) that will give u more xp than the instanced one u can get by design. at 95, I do fortuna/epic spezion/kartia grp+solo/rb zero+spicula quest series/SoS solo/GF quest and I can manage to gather around 5% at end, and I'm very very glad with that number, simply 'casue its by far more fair than hoping to be on a ***** good party and/or being harassed by non-stop wartags coming in waves.
to the OP, if you'r 87+, then you should move out from Swamps, since the xp there is crap and mobs are annoying at best. With my feoh dual 86, I managed to do 2% in about 1h30min with AoE in Fairy Setlement, with no vit/xp boost (in duo with a iss box). I think it was a good xp rate, at end.

Yes definitely fairies. The quests were lowered now to 88, I go there for a bit on my Iss and have been dragging my 83 Cardinal with me and it did not take long for it to go from 82 to 83 at all using no xp boosters. It helps you accomplish something at least even if you as your main don't gain a lot.

The game nowdays is not even close to how it was before...i mean , i remember back in interlude when i was a BD with tallum set and kesh*kesh dual+9 , i was unable to go around for solo , and even if i'll able to , was an eternity for took a lvl up , MAYBE after 40 , 1-2 lvl each day , IF YOU FARM FOR HOURS.Nowdays i think they made the game be more "balanced" 'cause you can solo 1-85 without many problems , after lvl 78 you can just camp raids and if you're lucky make 78-85 in one day and if you die and lose a 1-4% now , in few mins you're able to get it back...back in interlude it was something like days of exp...anyway , from my , my point of view is more like :
1-85 solo , you have lot of spots , but several taken by bots (how the hell a gm cannot understand who's botting? go gludio in DE guild and you'll find 7-8 DE elfs summoners with SAME equip waiting for bot , you can find LOT of those DE bots in aden , near gk and in silent valley xping the whole day)
85-90 party , if you've CP than you have no problems they're all fast-lvl ups , just doing both the kartias + teredor + nursery + soa daily , grant you lot of xp , plus , if you've a CP or a good pt , 'till a certain lvl xp in harnak is "good" , or you can go to stronghold 2 and keep xping without any stop (swampland daily too)
90-93-95 party , go for usual instances kartias+teredor and new adds like istina (lot of xp twice for week) , spezion every 4hs , fortuna , and after lvl 93 even spicula! (my bro just did lvl 93 2 days ago , he's already 20%+ without grinds or nc things)
95-97-99 party , you start having even daily quests , like sos , hf , gf
basically > 1-85 open field , 85-95 instances plus some open-field dailys , 95-99 open-field plus some instances. i guess they're trying to make the game coming back to how it was before but keeping it new...if you know what i mean XD
I'm in a clan and they've shared the length it takes to level. However, they keep telling me there is all this **** to do 90+ and 95+, too much **** infact.
Well too bad I'm stuck in the most awful and unenjoyable exp'n range of the game I guess? 85-90?
grind aint bad like it used to be kill 10 mobs for a huge0.01% lol its way easyer now even from 85 to 99
The current state of the game is once again as lopsided as it has been for some time.
In the "old" L2, up till Interlude or so... give or take, I'd have to think too hard to really remember the exact time it changed.
But it was grindy, it was tough, it was often ruthless. But there was always new stuff! New raids, new mobs, new places.
There was tons of movement and variety, for every level range there was at LEAST 2 spots you could go to and level. Some needed a party, some could solo... and some a smart/good player could solo/duo even if it was a party area.
You could find your own way in the game and not be punished for it, could join clans/allies and have tons of pvp where people could win/lose or just have a chase across half the map trying to catch them...
It became stale after that. You got to the level cap and stayed in one area. You had "must have" classes to own in pvp/oly. All sorts of issues arose that got a band aid, if they were even addressed at all.
When GoD came out.. it looked like they "got it". You could have a blast going 1-85... a fun quest line, lots of lore and story, and raids you could go have fun with... and a constantly moving set of hunting areas.
85+? You had raids you could do, great XP, gear that was not "given" to you, but could be obtained with a little effort and time. Nothing too outlandish, but some time with raids and some hunting would stock you up on enough to gear yourself out no problem.
Crafting? Not a problem... REASONABLE requirements that actually were fine.
Then they nerfed quest rewards....drops... crafting requirements.
They took all the things that made L2 in GoD more sensible and accessible to players and completely destroyed them.
So now you can breeze up to 85, and then you get slammed in the face with what is essentially "old" L2, but not the good parts of it.
Old l2 was not good because of the grind, it was good in spite of it.
85-90 was enjoyable in the start of GoD... you could quite easily get some decent (for the level) armor, and you could do a combination of XP and daily (or multiple times a day) quests/raids/instances that netted you a huge chunk of XP.
It was a great buffer coming off from the super fast 1-85 players to transition to 90+ and especially 95+.
Camped raidbosses, did quests, grinded mobs in a large variety of different areas. IT WAS AWESOME!

85-90 isn't that bad at all. I enjoyed playing healer late into the night meeting new people an having fun. Heck, early GoD I was able to join Nova for a week before I quit and rejoined my old clan. I enjoy it because as a healer I can chat since I'm not busy tapping away at macros ;P
I feel you on the second point though. Playing healer is fun, but making the next level on your main your goal isn't necessarily conducive to your health. I find myself playing my subs more often...I'm actually trying to get both my level 80 subs to 100% exp. However, while I do this I'm leveling up my Kook which benefits from the unused vit on my level 80 subs (got my kook from 24 to 55 in 2 days).
Anyways back to topic:
A lot of people on this thread make the point that if you're playing for the meta, you'll be severely disappointed. You have to set up small goals an accomplishments that you will feel good about.
A lot of people on this thread make the point that if you're playing for the meta, you'll be severely disappointed. You have to set up small goals an accomplishments that you will feel good about.
Small goals after awakening are a must. I more or less set playtime goals. Like maybe 2-3 hours certain nights of the week and maybe half a Saturday or whatever. Trying to set level goals isn't realistic if you have a life.
I've played this game for two weeks now. The first week I was working so I didn't get to play very often. Despite that fact I am now an 85 iss enchanter.
I can't even log-in for all the bot parties, and I have reported these guys repeatedly. One guy in the swamp had his party broke up into about 3 groups of 2. I killed one of his botters and then I get harrassed for like the next two hours.
This game is crap - but for some reason I find myself trying to log-in. Even though its a feeble attempt because someone has the server tied up for sieges today.
