What Kind Of Healer Are You?

Thought it would be fun to see what kind of healer people would be. Here are the Archetypes I've observed:

The Leader:

Always the one giving commands and teaching his or her group how to effectively manage themselves and keep themselves alive in group situations. These healers tend to organize and set up their own groups to do instances and quests. Outgoing and always doing their best, these healers tend to be very friendly and affable, making quite a few friends through the groups they've been a part of.

The Silent One:

These guys are the competent healers who don't say much, only complete their job of healing then move on to the next group. They focus on their job and don't really make much noise unless needed.

The Healbot:

Alts and boxes who are just there to fill up a spot or get extra income for their respective mains. These players tend to be less experienced in the role of healing compared to healers who main, but usually do their job well-enough to get through the dungeon or quest.

The Nice Guy:

The guy who wants to do the job that no one likes. Whether it is tank or healer he or she will do either because no one else wants to do it and they really like helping others. Someone should give these people medals for their innate kindness. ;)

The Pacifist:

The person who hates or is not comfortable with fighting and would rather play a support role than an active role. Usually competent in healing, but is also subpar compared to others who fall under other categories

The Greedy Dwarf:

Seeing that no one really plays the healer class, this person captializes on the open spots for healer and uses his healers alts to generate more income for his main, similar to the healbot, except it's done for the adena and not for the job of being a healer in itself.

The Lazy Bum:

Doesn't like doing much. Uses two heals to keep the party alive, but that's it.
The leader.

Do as your told, or die.
A mix of pacifist and lazy bum. Lol
im a nice guy. dont mind bein told what to do and will take a roll if i no i can do it.
My healer is a mix of The Silent one and The nice Girl. She used to have The Pacifist atitude but i put her through some rough training and she now enjoys the Killing Intent much... much more.:)

My 2nd healer is a lazy bum. He makes my 1st healer grow on Killing Intent. :D
by the way, a fun poll.

something like 70% Silent One, 20% Nice Guy and 10% Lazy Bum (snooze mode).
I'm the Harsh Leader. I tell people when they are doing something wrong and if they continue doing it I kick them from the party (if I'm the PL) or find a new party.
sort of like nukers and archers playin tank in kartia. i hate that garbage
Lazy bum actually, haha..
Ron is at 5% HP.
/Useskill Party Return.
And then you got kicked haha.. >.<
Well why stay in the party? ;D
Leader i think

I try make instances etc fast to run another so i told ppl what to do usualy:> I run fast to second room in kartia group to pull mobs+rb . After spicula i agro golems to make fast q . ii epic spezion after pr i go 1 st and kill mobs alone with celestial and inquistior on me . On bailor i lure second bailor to run always after me ETC ETC ETC I think im good healer after all:>
I'm liking all these replies!

Shameless bump for the sake of more votes!
you should have added the useless healer. he is the one that goes to take a leak in the middle of a large pull. lol. btw thats not me.

Would be a plausible category...however I don't think anyone would be willing to put themselves into that category...
lol but there are ones like that.they go afk without telling anyone.
What did you not understand...I agreed with you. I'm just saying that people have enough pride not to say "HAY I'M THE AFK T@RD WHO LIKES TO DOESN'T KNOW I CONTROL THE LIVES OF MY PARTY"

sheesh
L2 gradually kills your brain cells over time. Cellular deterioration rate depends on the player. Some people here have 8 years of exposure.

That would be me and my intelligence is mostly in tact thanks to my superior Asian heritage.
balance life and that chain heal skill, only just awakened as a healer yestarday and had 3 partys.... only used them 2 skills every time haha, uber :D and i love it

That's the life of healer until 93+ or PvP...then you actually have to be smart about skill usage.
The Leader and The Silent One
depends on situation :)
Bump again :D
You forgot an important category : The Evil Healer :).

That one which :
-hates being considered like a rez / mp box
-hates having dumb assses in party and won't care to let them die, leave, then pr
-will troll and open the party matching to get invitation spamms, to finally not join any.

and so on :)

I'm mostly the silent one, and a bit of the Evil one depending on the situation, ofc. I've met too much people who don't have any respect for healer class (yes the one that (normally) never can afk or party wipe(not like dd's,iss and sometimes tanks do),the one who is often blamed when smth goes wrong , the omg imba cheated one, go die you can heal yourself, the one that never ever EVER is allowed to make a mistake or he'll get a private room in pt matching for noobest guy of server :D)

Well im a bit ironic .. but i've seen all this happening to me or other peeps too, and i sometimes now feel that i don't wanna waste the few time i have in game with ppl that don't deserve it :p
The one that chooses fashion over function. The one that wants to match the dps of the mage and survive as good as the tyrr. The one that doesnt care how many times someone says "stay out of aoe range". The one that wishes they didn't forget to buff themselves with salvation...

On PVE - HealerBOT: Just like 100% healers, turn on my script and heal like a boss for hours.

On PVP - The Leader.
Being a healer means keeping a close eye on the health of multiple targets. Often, losing focus for even a moment can lead to the death of a player. In PvE, the healer's attentions are mostly focused on the tank, who should be taking the majority of all incoming damage. However, careless DPS and numerous fight mechanics can cause the tables to quickly turn, requiring the healer to keep focused at all times, ready to switch targets at a moment's notice.
Unlike other roles, the prime challenge of a healer is usually not that of simple capability, but one of efficiency and longevity. Most well-geared healers are capable of healing targets through the heaviest of onslaughts, but doing so without rapidly depleting their limited mana reserves requires forethought, anticipation and a thorough knowledge of their skills and cooldowns. Healers who simply use their fastest and most powerful heals will quickly find themselves out of mana, powerless to aid themselves or their allies. Healers must therefore strike a fine balance between speed and efficiency, often risking the lives of their charges in order to ensure their mana will last the fight.
In the heat of battle, healers also have the unenviable responsibility of triage, making split-second decisions as to who will live, and who must die. It is often not possible to save every target, and there are times when even the best healer must allow one of their charges to perish, in order to save the others. In this sense, healers are those that stand between each player and their imminent death; and while they can bend the forces of fate a little to their favour, when there is nothing more that can be done, it is they who must decide who is to live, and who is to die.
For this reason and many others, the role of healer can be the most stressful, unpopular and unappreciated of all. If the healer is doing their job right, no-one will even notice they are doing it. This means that healers are rarely thanked for their efforts, with the only visible proof of their labours the fact that their allies are still standing. Because the healer serves as the last line of defence between players and their untimely deaths, healers can also be the subject of anger and abuse from players, even when those players are entirely to blame for their own demise. When everything goes wrong, the healer may be held responsible for not miraculously saving the group. However, experienced players know the difference between their own mistakes and those of the healer, and anyone who has served in the role knows the challenges of healing a tough encounter.
Healing is perhaps the most critical and responsible role of all. In the course of a tough fight, it is possible for several DPS to perish, and the party still to triumph; it is possible even for the tank to die, and for others to step up to take the brunt of the enemy's attacks. But without a healer to keep them alive, any group is likely to meet a swift and ignominious demise.
Being a healer takes guts, quick wits and nerves of steel. It means taking responsibility for the survival of the entire group, and knowing that if things go wrong, you may be blamed. Being a healer requires maintaining a constant awareness of multiple targets, numerous cooldowns and a plethora of debuffs. It means anticipating incoming damage and predicting the behaviour of your teammates, playing a constant game of chicken between urgency and efficiency, gambling the lives of your teammates against the speed of your reactions. It means living on the fine line between life and death, constantly weighing the value of speed over longevity, the value of one life over that of another.
Being a healer is quite possibly the most stressful and most under-appreciated role of all. Nonetheless, it offers a unique challenge, and the opportunity to earn the praise and respect of your teammates. A good healer is capable of turning around any encounter, creating an indomitable team of adventurers who can take on anything. As the person most directly responsible for their team's survival, a skilled healer can single-handedly save their party, their quick-thinking and mastery of their abilities sweeping their group from humiliating defeat to jubilant triumph. A good healer may stand in the shadows, but they alone are capable of raising their team into the glorious light of victory.
Wow, well said Aranel :)

As for me, I'm not a leading type of healer. I know my role as a second healer, whichever situation may it be - PvP or PvE. I'm usually supporting my party healer and I'm trying to avoid taking decisions myself unless extreme conditions approach.

Good post.

Seems some ppl think we mostly stand around clearing debuffs all day long though :D

Wat...
Im the type of healer that will let ure *** die if ya tell me how to play my toon...i am very active healer, i deal damage, debuff, recharge, rez ( if needed), noble ppl, celestial and i also school ppl on mana usage ( if ya a mana ***** ya wont get recharged). I cant stand it when ppl are yelling at me...do this and do that when they themselves arent even paying attn to exactly what it is im doing, I have NO patience for idiots and you will come to realize this if ya in my party long enuff. So i guess im a lil bit of the Evil healer...i will let ure *** lie on the floor when ya die...i will soe out of K90/k85 if party fails to do their jobs, i wont chase you to heal you if ya dont stay by the tank ( run off ya gonna die and if i do rez you , it will be with a Normal rez scroll from the town store). Now on the other hand...if ya a good player who knows how to play your toon...i will do everything in my power to keep ya alive and swatting mobs You prove to me ya worth my time and effort and we be best CP grp there is. The CP im with now, knows what to do and healing in that party is simple so i do my best to always be there. I am not a healer who can just sit there and throw a heal every now and again...i have to be in the mix of things...i will even tank if i have to. There have been times we havent had a tank/tyrr on and ppl wanna lvl but too afraid to tank, thats when i show em what a healer can do, i just hate it when ppl wanna lvl but sit there w8in for a Tank/Tyrr to get something done, simply amazes me. I guess i am a leader healer as well due to above statement. Healers are amazing toons if played properly and i love Blowing ppls minds when they actually see what a healer can do :p

Your grammar irritates me to a point of no return.

However, you are a decent person so it slides...
I'm the DD who defends the healer after he leaves group and the others all say NOOB HEALER. Like Iss who don't have a /target %self /useskill Healing Melody and just... die. Whenever I'm getting hit I apply my brainpower to see if I could do anything better. Sometimes I even pm the healer and ask.

My dual was healer up to 87 and I couldn't take it anymore. I don't know what's more annoying, pushing extra buttons to please noobs or typing them how to play their class. If I do the first, they think they're right to be whining. If I try to tell them what to do differently, they get all defensive. (Once I was in a party with a Yul who kept begging for recharge!)

But I'm weird. I think party wipes are fun. Otherwise one might think keeping the party alive is easy.
There is no better place to learn how to heal than a random party.

A clan party just dont find the same ways to screw up on a daily basis.

My clan was amazed at my healing skill in a level 95 area when I partied with for the first time after my long break.

Try SoA reptilikon lol.

That's fun, just that no one likes to do it anymore on Chronos...
I'm the survivor type.
I never die, because I'm an orc. My party approves of my vitality.

I didn't say that.
I said that the game shouldn't be the way it is.

But the is designed in a way that healers are required. I never said we don't need them, but I think I don't like that we need them.

If you simply said the last sentence from this post in the post in the other topic, I would have totally agreed with you. This game is too dependent on certain key classes when it comes to things such as RB and 85+ group hunting.

You said we didn't need them or the class was stupid and it sounded like babble. Your post here clearly shows that you're one of the intelligent ones.
Try SoA reptilikon lol.

PS. Good luck.
SoA MOBs are a bit special, in a number of ways, Lol. I really hated that place, but once you get some decent attribute on your armor it's not bad.

Unfortunately, random players are usually low level and badly geared, which makes it a complete PITA to heal, and the tanks usually think they can take on 50 mobs at a time in their unattributed Immortal Armors.

I'll never heal in SoA again, period.
Ron is at 5% HP.
/Useskill Party Return.

ownn, you'r still a kind person, doing PR :p last time I just walked away a bit, agroed some higher mobs and just bsoe'd to ch, to so hear and watch all the crying river of the desperate ones (but I told them to stop ****** me off in the yotenumak stg, u see).

since the OP forgot to put The Troller / The Wicked on the choice list, I think I play a mixed of The Leader plus The Silent One (if I'm in a random, random pt and dont know no one there). I could choose Healbot option, but since I play with my own hands (and get ***ing tired 'cause this) I deny getting to this option (but someone can feel some empathy, I'm sure). I usually like to work at background, watching all over the screen, then telling where to go, to iss change someone harmony, rebuff and so. And since no one can prevent what's going on my mind, they always can be surprised anytime.

Had a group today...Archer pulled literally everything in sight toward me and my tree. No one died in SoA but me but I had Salvation on. My pt kept yelling PR PR, but I stuck it through...landing a nice chunk of exp and adena before leaving. Pro healing skills.
I think the mobs in reptilikon just dont have enough ranged attacks, which makes them run towards ranged DDs more than the other 2 areas. Tank needs to keep on his toes and use pull skills to get them back closer to him, I suggest the tank to be 89 for this, so he has the aoe one as well.

If you are unsure of ppls gear commitment (aka random party matching), do Cokrakon.

If you are sure your party has good earth resist (aka clannies/allies) go Bistakon.

Everyone does Rept on Chronos though.

I had a tank with 0 else and massive lag. He looked stupid hating nothing. My summoner and othells had to compensate. Fun times.
Rebump!
I'm mix of the leader and the silent one, if pt knows what they are doing (clanies/friends) there is no need to tell anyone what to do, else..
I am stressed healer : D , reason a lot of noobs & other players playing in zombie mode really gets on my nerves : Eek:
When all pt are good/not zombie players i am relaxed healer (rarely).
I am very picky and that's my problem I know : (

You're a terrible healer.

If you were pro, you would be able to heal in every situation. Heck you can piss off every worm in Teredor and still rock as a healer.

Scrubcakes!!!! :D

Well, days are not always successful and, if am having a bad day in general, mistakes from my (random) party members make me start cursing if nobody is around me :D but it doesn't really affect healing. Random groups will likely always keep healers on their toes with exceptions of course.

Nope. Totally invalid.

I'm in S80 Vesper Noble.

It's 6+, fully-ele'ed. Yet, people never stop *****ing about how I'm a scrub despite the fact they face tank Teredor and SoA as Feohs.

Yet, no body dies. NOBODY!
I'm a healer that has developed lazybumness to a level of state of art. I'm probably the only healer that manage to die on Octavis first stage or get lost in crystal caverns or is like "oh, I forgot I'm the only healer today, so that's why you guys died :P ". I can guarantee you unforgettable experience with me in party ^^

I"m the leader type (Clan leader as well) and super FUN healer type which should be on the list. Always watch out how my parties do in pvp and pve and give out tips and that requires knowledge of each classes, not just your own. I'm also a train mania, the bigger the train the more fun it is. I solo trains of 20-30 mobs depending on where I go. But the fun part is in parties when you can make the trains more fun. Healers that brags a lot that their DDs, tank, or themselves never die prolly haven't step out of their comfort zone. Give yourself and your party more of a challenge. Tell your tank to increase the numbers of mobs, finish SOA quest in one run, best place is in the back of biskaton where you can train 15-20 groups. Or go to POD and train the whole area, train two whole areas of orbis, or go SOh when u're 97 and train the whole or 2-3 rooms room. Even better, do one party istina as healer and boxing 1-3 other characters. Go pvp with 1 vs 2-3 parties of equal lvl or higher than you. Even go as far as doing instances with no tank or no iss. Don't call yourself a pro healer when you can challenge yourself/your party.

If only my computer could run a party of boxes.
I am the poor one.

I play on an eight years old PC (the same that used to work perfectly back in c3 days) all at minimum graphics and still my PC have huge problems to run the game plus an horribly slow internet connection.

I reached an amazing point where i am able to keep my groups alive when (and i am not exaggerating) my PC + lag gives me around 1 minute of complete freezing and just by hearing what my mates are saying on ventrilo and counting the seconds in my mind, im able to guess what is happening and act consecuently. Rarely anybody dies in my groups.

I like to think positively that the day i get both a good computer and a decent Internet connection i will become some kind of healing monster.
Imagine how awesome you'd be in PvP, you might be super human and pwn bots.

almoust same here, just i have better computer. it's strange to see my party with full health when i can move again :D
I fit two categories:

I'm a clan leader, so, must delegate as needed, but also fit the "nice guy" (or gal) category.

Edana is my main almost exclusively. I dont play the other classes much, though thats mostly because my time for play is limited.

I have been known to share my knowledge as well which combines the two in a way. I share the knowledge but not in a bossy way. If they don't choose to learn from my, its their choice. We all learn from others at some time..

Its nice to see something fun written about the healer class. :)
MOar posts pl0x
I'm between the silent one and the nice guy... Depends on my mood.

+1!! You think like me! Let's party some time :3
I am the poor one.

Hahaha this is epic!
Ron is at 5% HP.
/Useskill Party Return.

lol I've totally had someone do that before and they honestly did it on accident... lawls were had by all.

Rept is a really fun place to be a tank :) Tanking in Rept is definitely one of the funnest things I have done in game.

Do it on my human mystic tank all t ge time. He sounds like a wimp but can take hits.
Bump it

I play good, I know it, my clan/cp loves me, my enemies hate me.
In PvE i am quite lazy, dont do much and prefer to give rebirth instead of recharge. In PvP I wake up and do my job good. So I dont really fit in one of your categorys.

hehe :3
Leader/Wicked/silent/Lazy ..Definitely the one you blamed the wipe on even though YOU have no ele or enchants and mine is maxed. I let you die because I'm psychic. I knew you were stupid when you didn't have your forces or pants on before the pull. Or maybe it was the sparta helmet. You're welcome that they saw fit to give me a reason to join a clan and so my rez is 100% and noblesse comes as soon as you rez. The one praying my salvation enchants provide me with a 0% cool down. Yes I took my pr button off my hot bar because usually I'd rather pr at the moment stupid and his buddy lag arrives rather than clean up the mess that ensues. Sleep fails on everything except what the dev's intended us to use it on, even other players. I can't use it for that guy who runs around like he's on fire aggroing everything no matter how much I want it to work. My dissolve has never worked when I needed it the most...ever. It's only good for running really fast when 100 mobs are on me while I search for my pr button on the skills list. I let people in immortal die when they flag on someone in eternal gear. Hey at least I stay to rez you once your flag goes away. I have a small bladder, and even smaller patience with fools. Usually when I say I have to take my dog out I'm about to go afk and forget to come back. My macros are labeled "efit". "oschit" and "lolz".
could have sworn i posted in this once before.
i know i voted... just don't remember what i voted for.

yup. I put lazy bum cause I like to turn shots off. :D And I usually stay away from groups that make me more "active" haha. I make macros that last a couple minutes and allow me to level alts or run zaken. I haven't experienced pvp much since being back from long long break (just after GoD), so can't comment on that...but when I get 99...watch out foo!!! :D ORC HEALER POWAAA!!!!
I consider myself the leader type as usually i'm the one who knows what is where and commands the party where to go.
I even choose the Wynn dual for the sole purpose of being able to summon everyone to the desired location. :D

However I'm lazy bum too, as I like to keep shots turned off when not needed and just press 2 buttons at PVE. I can't help it there is just no need to do more.

Maybe a little pacifist too, I like being support, no need for crazy targeting and desire to kill as dd.

+1 for the thread idea for the poster. really nice. :D
... :D ORC HEALER POWAAA!!!!

IDK, but for me, orc is the worst class to roll healers... dunno, but it just doesnt fit. same goes for dwarves, it's annoying - it's like the skills animations arent made for them, or so. #personalviewpoint

anyway, how the hell can you keep your party healthy only with macros, and most important, WITH YOUR EYES AWAY FROM THE HEALER'S SCREEN?

Orc Fighter Male Healers make me rofl so hard.

But Kamael Female Healers. Their animations are awesome...they spread their wings and stuff, not even Feohs or Wynns do that.. :D
