Dev Director Q&A - Questions Thread

Dev Corner Started Last reply 51 posts
Hello Everyone,

We are happy to announce that the Lineage II Development Director,Gon Namkung, has agreed to a special interview for NCWest and will be answering player questions that get posted in this thread. Feel free to ask constructive questions about general Lineage II information and the next big update Lindvior.

The Dev Director Questions thread will remain open for 1 week, until Thursday, March 7. At that time the thread will be closed, the questions will be collected, and sent out to Gon Namkung to answer. We'll give an ETA for the Answers thread around that time as well.
First of all congratulations for having survived the crisis (http://www.inven.co.kr/board/powerbbs.php?come_idx=390&l=1016) in December! :)

I see that you intend to revive the Powerbook Wikipedia:
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/gmroom/view?articleId=535457
Wouldn't it be more cost efficient if people like GM Kashinel wrote things like the the drop lists for the new high grade materials directly into the Powerwiki instead of compiling hand-made lists:
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/gmroom/view?articleId=535434
Setting up a GM Room is a good idea (NCTaiwan has something like this (http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/l2_friend/) since many years) but there seems to be some double work at the moment :)
As you know, the introduction of a free-to-play system up to lvl 85 in Korea has led to a noticeable increase of automatically hunting characters:
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/gmroom/view?articleId=535457

Wouldn't it be time to rethink the "Totally Free" philosophy at NCWest and introduce for example a moderate account creation fee of 50 dollars, which gets converted into NCoins? This would make botting less profitable, our GMs, who insist on hunting bots manually instead of adopting far more cost-efficient automated garbage disposal methods (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=253335#8), would not work in vain, and you would get people hooked on the NC Store from day one :D
What happens to the Iss Judicator after the update?

What happens to all characters who used the SoD before the Lindvoir update.
I was greatly amazed to read what our esteemed Producer Cryo wrote about "more changes will be made to the clan war system in the next major update Lindvior":
http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=253754
Somehow I can't find these changes in the Lindvior patch notes:
http://power.plaync.co.kr/lineage2/%EC%84%9C%ED%92%8D%EC%9D%98+%EA%B8%B0%EC%9A%B4+%EC %8B%9C%EC%8A%A4%ED%85%9C
On the contrary, since you put the HP+CP restoring potions in the item store last week, I had the impression that you are deliberately inciting clan wars as a means to increase your revenue:
http://www.inven.co.kr/board/powerbbs.php?come_idx=390&l=1028

Could you please help me out here and explain what exactly the changes to the clan war system in Lindvior will be?
Have you already decided whether we will get the missing parts from the Echo patches (the upgraded Aden Cemetery, the removal of S-Grade items from the Luxury Shop in Giran ...) before Lindvior, or will it all be wrapped into one big update?

On a similar note, there have been countless patches to Lindvior after it went live on October 31. Have you already decided which patch state we will get? With or without Lindvior 2, i.e. the Dimensional Cross-Server War?

Cryo said that NCWest is planning their major update schedule at least 6 months in advance:
http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=253754
On the other hand he does not seem to know very much about what we will get. There is a bit of a discrepancy here. When will you send the next patch to NCWest for localization? If I understand right what Cryo said about "we try to keep the translation as close as possible to the original Korean meaning", the translating is done in the USA? Isn't it a bit optimistic when our Producer tells us to "look out for the update before the end of the first half of the year" and they still haven't started on the work yet?

Could you help alleviate my confusion by giving at least a rough update schedule until Lindvior 1 or 2?
The augmentation system seems to has some great disappointments, especially when it comes down to skills. Getting a skill is hard (often expensive) to get; getting a good skill is even harder. So far I have experienced:

-Using an R-grade Life stone on R-grade weapon, the result was a skill acquired by a character at 66 level (useless of course for an 85+ character).
-Skills that literally never land, like silence in PvP (thoroughly tested both versions of chance and trigger)

Is the augmentation system working as intended or some unexpected glitches may occur?
1) How the Tersi crisis, where the clan LegendO***ight bullied a lot of small clans, impacted the Lineage II department in Korea ? Several threads seems to be removed from your Lineage II board, and Inven website got an article which was sometime not available (removed)
http://www.inven.co.kr/board/powerbbs.php?come_idx=390&l=1016

2) Gameguard is a program doing a great job regarding password security against keyloggers / trojan and such programs. The vast majority of Lineage II players in South Korea is playing from Internet Café if I am right, I can totally understand the need for such a program. However, Gameguard proves that it is not providing any protection against automated players (often called bots) which is de facto normal since it is not Gameguard role. Do you consider using something else, or something in addition to Gameguard to help protect your server and NCSoft image against those automated characters ? While a manual hunt will be very efficient, it is really time consuming and will burn a lot of hours for a team which could use this time for doing something else, like updating the PowerBook

3) Do you consider introducing more lore with the new updates ?

4) Is there any plan to make the Elven village alive again ? :D
What details can you give us about changes made to the Kamael Race? I'm kinda curious to see what you guys do with such a restricted race in terms of class choice.

Director Namgung, I also have a question about the Tersi Crisis:
Do you have an idea who repeatedly reported Inven.co.kr over several weeks as an "attack site" so that browsers would not display the article? That was quite unusual.
In NA servers we have a considerable number of R99 +16 blessed weapons / +9 R99 blessed sets due to "NC-Promos". I don't know if these destruction scrolls exist in Korea / how to get then in Korea.
When developers create updates, they consider the "super-man" players?

Why a group of hero with +16 weapons and +9 armor sets can't kill the "old" big boss Trasken and can easy defeat the "new" boss Tauti? Exist any plans to new version of trasken for "regular players" with they +5 armors and +6 weapons?

The fog implemented in High Five really lag my obsolete video card (intel embeed graphic card), I already set the option "weather effects" to "none" and this fog still in my game, exist any plans to move the "fog of lag" to "weather" settings and players can leave the fog from game?

Any plans to revamp Hellbound?

Kartia Solo (all), any plans to remove the first and the second party of this instance? (In this time, players need "wait" 20 min to the "walking dead" npc's come to die, and the fight inside the instance is no more great than 10 min.)
1) Are there any plans for more content geared towards groups of people of a size smaller than a party (2-4 for example)? Currently the vast majority of social activities require a full 7 person party.

2) Are there any plans for more content where players of varying levels could participate? It can be disheartening for new players that they can't play with their established friends due to level difference.

3) Are there any plans for the improvement of the party matching system? On some of our servers the only efficient way of playing the game is with a so called constant party, as finding a "random" party can be time consuming and uncertain. People either don't know how to use the party matching system or don't want to play with strangers.

You may want to edit your sentence and specify that it happens on some servers. I use the party matching daily on Naia, and while I can get several surprises sometime, most of the time it's ok
1) With the previous expansions of Lineage 2, namely Tauti/Glory days/Echo we have observed several features to be added sooner (or later) to that expansion, for example the change of Wynn summoners from 4 to 2 servitors or the Blacksmith at gludin airship field still not trading 2 lower grade swords for an higher grade Dual sword.
With the coming of Lindvior Chapter will NC still introduce patches to the North American version for diferent chapters, on a diferent sequence compared to the Korean version? What are the reasons behind these "out of place" changes?
We L2NA players are often guided by what the Korean Developers present and we often prepare to adapt to the next patches, but it is a great bother when "ninja patches" are applied and not listed previously to be of players knowledge.

2) Will the new beauty shop, that's coming in lindvior, be progressively extended with the addition of more faces and hairstyles on more future updates? Is your team thinking on adding more hair colours to the game aswell? I believe a lot of people would apreciate greatly feeling more unique with their character, and with the comeback of the classes, it would be a great "combo" of apealing to the players.

3) Are there new measures being taken to make the game run smoother? With Godess of destruction expansion there has been many animations, heavily consuming and "floody" that makes the game run much slower on Mass PVP, will there be any improvements?

4) One of the summoner mechanics that mostly annoys Wynn summoner players is the servitor delays. You adapted the game to be faster-paced, classes can reach highest cast speed and atk speed full time. For a player to be competitive as a summoner, one needs to react fast, unfortunately the servitors are incredibly delayed for a fast reaction, speciallly while they attack targets (this is valid for all 3 servitors: bear, reaper and cougar). Another problem is when you try to press a skill various times when target is out of range, the servitor will not respond and come back-and-forth making it very ineficient.
We summoners find that the servitors should react the moment you press a key in any situation (unless disabled ofc) like any character is able to, is this current mechanic a current intended feature of L2 or do you intend to change the servitors to better adapt to the current fast-paced game?

5) Will fortresses be added to important areas or have them moved to territories where is more filled with players? The fortresses regions are very empty..few players use them since the important content is focused on 85+.
Hello,

1) Any plans about adopting Lineage 2 a bit towards the NA servers? For example in our servers no one does the majority of the campaigns, because they require a lot of people. It will be grate if some features are created for our servers with some special patches. Our server population is lower and we need some help with that. The whole siege system and campaign system seems to be not suitable for our servers.

2) What are your plans about the Grand Olympiad and the Ceremony of Chaos? In our forums we had a lot of discussion about the imbalance in these wonderful PvP events, especially coming from some classes like Aore Healer and Siegel Knight. Also we have huge abilities for teaming up in these events and "feeding" points and heroes when the servers are lower populated. Recently, there is a new problem in CoC - it is hard to sign up.

3) I have heard the automated play in Korea is not very popular, but we have a huge problem which GameGuard can not solve. We have a lot of Real Life Money Traders, bots, farming bots, and even 3rd party program users for PvP. The main enemy of the normal player is a program called z Ranger. Are there any plans for better protection from 3rd party programs that allow automatic play and advantage in PvP?

4) I am personally interested in what direction the Feohs are going after the Lindvior update. So far the 4 new Feohs have little differences. It will be interesting to know what new skills are planned to be implemented in Feoh Archmage, Feoh Soultaker and etc, so we can have a clear vision about the path of the classes, before we chose what kind of Feoh we want to play.

5) The game lacks a lot of content for 85 +. Are there any plans for revamping some zones. For instance bringing back the Catacombs will be very interesting. I loved doing Festivals, grind in Catacombs and etc. Also it seems there are not many open field raid bosses. It will be great to see the old Lilith and Anakim and to experience again the PvP for it. In general I miss the old Seven Signs. We also greatly lack content for players that are level 99. And we have a huge separation of the player base. You can barely see players level 99 in the hunting fields and partying with those that are under level 99.

Thank you in advance
Hi Mr. Gon Namkung.

I would have some questions what I would share to 3 parts. Item, PvP and Present/Future updates.

Items:
1. As you did create to us the Blessed weapons and armors what are very expensive ones and their upgrade cost even more times expensive too.
Example I got a Blessed Amaranthine Dual Dagger, what was alone too very expensive, but its upgrade cost will more expensive.
If a player want to put on it Second Special Ability and PvP or PvE bonus they need minimum 15 billion of Adena, while a hardcore player who farm in the best hunting zones able to get daily 100 or in lucky situation 200 million of Adena. So we have to farm about daily 8-10 hours for a weapon like this through a half year and after this as we talk about Blessed weapon players plan to over enchant them also what will more expensive again.
So how do you plan to support those players who get a weapon like this?
Will these weapons or armors remain as top item and upgradeable items 1-2 years later too? (In older update like from Chaotic Chronicle 5 to Chaotic Throne 3.3 the Draconic Bow or Angel Slayer remain as top weapon what is 3 years)

2. We did read and hear about, that the Unidentified items will disappear from the game, also we could read, that the Blessed item craft will disappear too.
Will we able to get Blessed item after the Lindvior Update if yes how?
What will happen with the current Blessed item?

3. Will only the Tyrr Maestro able to craft after the Lindvior update or every dwarf what as created before the Glory Days update will be able to keep their craft ability and recipe books?

PvP:
1. The awakened classes mainly the Enchanter and Healer type classes has a lots of Celestial type and "runaway type" skills what will they can make the PvP sometimes boring, also they have too many massive heal type skills, what results additionally the PvP more longer and often to more boring too.
Do you plan to remove or modify these skills?

2. Since the Goddess of Destruction in our and as I see on the Korean servers too, mainly the 7vs7 PvP the popular. While before we could attack a full party with small group or in solo too and if we were good we were able to win.
Do you plan to give more fun in PvP for those who mainly enjoy to PvP alone or in small groups?

3. In the Goddess of Destructions many classes got a lots of new AOE skills, what on high details looks very nice, but often in mass PvP they are very annoying first of all if we have to use low details.
Do you plan to take back the old skill effects to the game?

4. Through the augmenting process available to Passive and Active Reflect Damage ability what together results 40% reflect damage, by my experience this makes to really unbalanced the Olympiad Games first of all, because to get these Augment players just has low chance some players use 2 Life Stones and get it, while another use 5.000 Life Stones and nothing.
I often experience, that on Class Base Olympiad often my opponent able to win over me, because the Reflect Damage.
But also problematic the situation if I make Olympiad against Healers. They just cast up the Reflect Damage buff to themselves and enough for them just spam the Panic Heal and I die by my own damage.
But situation is the worst at the Sigel Knights. They have 10% passive reflect damage, while they has 15 sec 25% reflect damage buff and if they get both the reflect damage augment it is totaally 80% reflect damage and from this 55% as passive reflect for them. So often impossible to kill them, while the hit and run strategy work hard too.
Do you plan to remove or at least drastically decrease the effect of the Reflect Damage skills and augments?

5. Othell Rogues has very weak resistance against Physical and Magical debuffs.
Do you plan increase the debuff resistance of the Rogue type classes?

Present/Future update:
1. Korea got the Lindvior update in November of 2012. So might be another update soon will release there.
Can you share with us some details, what will the main things what you plan to add or modify in the update what will follow the Lindvior Update?

2. By my experience the different regions/communities of Lineage II has much fewer connection with each other as example another video game communities has.
Do you plan to add or organize world wide tournaments where the best Korean, NA, Japanese etc players will be able to fight against each other?

3. I did read some negative comment on Korean, NA, European and Russian forums about the graphic design of the new armors and about 1-1 hunting grounds.
While players wrote about the Armors, that they are too Sci-Fi or fairy type, until first of all at Taiwan the players thinks, that some of places are too depressive, while the NA players thinks some places are too fairy.
Will you try to follow the old type armor/hunting zone design now as you return to the classical game play?
Do you plan to add maybe special armor editor to the game or release different armor skins in the L2 Store what the players for NCoins will able to buy and make their characters to more unique?

4. The Lineage 2 even the most beautifully designed MMORPG, but it doesn't support the DirectX 11 neither the newest processors.
Do you plan to upgrade the engine somehow?
If yes, How the present technology let you, that make the upgrades and about how much time necessary for this development?

5. I found a map what says it is the full world map of the world of Lineage II:
http://archive.l2portal.com/Maps/Territories/images/Lineage2CompleteMap.gif
this map says there are huge lands at the Eastern and Northern parts of the the world map what are still isn't in game. Also it say there are a lots of islands too, we can find Korean texts on the map, so might be it isn't a "fan made map".
By this map we only play about on the 40% of the world map.
When will these huge and new areas appear in the game?

6. The story of the Lineage 2 says, that there are two races what should become to playable race in the future.
When do you plan to add these races?

7. I did experience in the last time, that more and more girl/woman become to Lineage 2 player, by my experiences about 25-30% of the NA/EU/Russia Lineage 2 communities are female players (As I saw the video about your interview from Russia, there was a lots of female players too who asked questions from you:)) also I did read, that Korea and Taiwan has huge amount of female users.
How do you plan to support the growing number of the female players?
What are their requests about the development of the game?

8. What are your future plans with the Lineage 2, how do you imagine the game some years later?
Fantasy Isle is still useless in here, do you plan to add better rewards or make changes to the whole Isle?
Are you planning to do raid bosses more interesting ? I mean to bring fights for raids back ? because at the moment people don't fight for the raids and party who kills the raid is the party who can stay longer awake ... And you can't PK them because chaotic state is unbelievable, ty
1 | There is planned to extend the maximum level of 99 for the characters, especially when they are 99/99, with a bonus level, o a new top level?

2 | As the economy change with the removal of bound items?
There are changes in the quantity of items and adena drop now?

3 | Can incorporate an option to avoid seeing fog effects like teredor or generated by Rage Aura in Sigels?
Really affect the game negatively these effects
... but then again going to the other extreme does not help either (guilotine fortress/ horrendous monsters spawn everywhere..).

That's an important point. Director Namkung, as you probably know, the Chinese trade name for Lineage 2 is 天堂 2, "Paradise". A (presumably male) Chinese player recently wrote that with the last updates there is no more "paradise" to be seen in the game, it's not the old Lineage 2 feeling any more. Wouldn't it make economic sense to invest into hiring an outside artist who might come up with a monster design that goes beyond ever more spikes, claws and teeth?

http://static.plaync.co.kr/powerbook/lineage2/46/42/08ee3988e6a07ed5ca4aa7bc.jpg

With the present preference for ugliness (the picture is from the upgraded Lindvior Orcland (http://power.plaync.co.kr/lineage2/%ED%98%BC%EB%8F%88%EC%9D%98+%EB%95%85)) you are alienating a considerable part of your player base.
I have few questions for the Client Programming Team...

What is their standard day at the office?
How frequently they are working (lets say per month) on adressing the client issues?
How much time it can take to fix one mirror client bug?

I am asking because since i started to play here on official, i reported few client bugs. And although i reported them long time ago (GF, Freya, H5), and they might be the mirror ones, few of them are still not fixed. Its just too long for fixing the mirror client bug, if you ask me.
my questions is:
- Do you have plans to change Clan War System? Clan Wars before Glory Days was some kind of competition and good management system. Currently it is one of the ways of destroying small clans or clans on development stage.
- Do you have plans to change PK system?
- In last updates dev.team usually add very ugly and depressive hunting zones. Do you have plans to add bright and beautiful locations?
- Do you have plans to add new Seeds to Gracia continent?
- Do you have plans to renovate Hellbound?
- currently in end game the difference of just few levels on character's power is very noticeable (meaning damage, skill land rate, misses etc). this excludes alot of people from pvp, leaving ground only to those high level chars. at the beginning of L2 this issue had significantly lower impact and difference is just getting larger from chronicle to chronicle. are there any plans to make pvp more competetive and meaningful for all level ranges and not just end game characters?

- before awakening many classes of the same archetype have a set of skills that have almost the same effect but differ with skill icon or animation (i.e. warcyer vs prophet buffs, nukers' nukes of different element) that is fitting to specific class/race lore. have you considered differentiation of new awakened classes by giving different icons or animations to existing awakened class skills depending on race (or the new divided class)?

- could you look into the land rate of Iss Enchanter debuff skills? the physical debuffs are landing fine. however, the magical debuffs are landing noticeably lower, also lower in comparison with other magic users. this is probably related to Iss main stats which are physical and they have very low WIT.
also, in current debuff system in pvp the debuff skills which have rather weak effect but long duration don't have much sense due to amount of cleanses available in the game.

- are there any plans to improve existing pets in the game? currently 90% of them are useless after awakening. and same question for transformations.
- are there any plans to introduce buy type auctions for the auction house?
- are there any plans on improving the subclasses (not dualclasses)? currently they don't serve much purpose since they're limited to lvl 80. also, they have low weight/slot requirement in comparison with awakened classes and get grade penalties so most of the time when you switch to them you cannot switch back due to limitations. this is especially visible on dwarf classes which normally have increased slots/weight.

- could you stop implementing mechanics that require you to leave your char online for long periods of time even when you're not actively playing? i'm talking about mentor buffs, clan buff, even sell/buy shops (although there is now auction house alternative but sell only). this doesn't help people in socializing as much as it just wastes computer power and lifetime, server resources and causes more lags.
- could you possibly add some field in World Map's Quest Tab that shows if currently selected quest is already done or not by current character?
- could you fix an issue with the dwarf male's face (and beard) being changed when they wear almost any hair accessory? :)
Are you planning to do raid bosses more interesting ? I mean to bring fights for raids back ? because at the moment people don't fight for the raids and party who kills the raid is the party who can stay longer awake ... And you can't PK them because chaotic state is unbelievable, ty

We receive a fail patchnotes... in lidvindor, when raid boss spawn, the area arround the boss will be turned in a open battlefield, like siegezone and players can pvp for free near raids.
Here are some pressing issues I'd like to cover.

First and foremost, the most important aspect that brings people to play this game for a long time is the gaming community. As of now, the gaming community is very poor due to the introduction of instanced daily quests and instanced dungeon runs that last a short time and are only once per day. The average player's time spent in Lineage 2 right now is logging in, doing their "dailies" ,as we've come to dub it, and logging off. This currently is the fastest method of leveling in the game and most players don't even stick with the same group while doing dailies nor even communicate without each other besides mentioning how bad another player is. The game needs more open world content that is significantly better experience and rewards that is appealing to weigh against the risk of encountering other players in PVP. Then you'll have the option of dailies for the fragile, casual player while more average and hardcore players fight it out for the obviously better field areas which will require communication and teamwork.

Will you create better open field content or will you continue this trend of instances?

Secondly is the aspect of class balance. As of now physical damage dealing classes are the most prominent of classes in the game (archer, rouge, warrior) because of their immense damage, effective disables, toughness, and ability to completely counter speed advantage with an abundance of warps, rushes and jumps. Their damage alone requires mystic classes (wizard, healer, summoner) who are set to PVP to wear heavy armor instead of robes and light armor because wearing robes and light armor leads to quick deaths from the physical classes without much opportunity to effectively fight back. Another reason for the large amount of physical damage dealing classes would be the current strength of healers who's high magic defense and ability to heal, CP,HP and frequently cleanse and resist debuffs makes them quite powerful against mystic classes and with this natural strength against mystic classes they are free to wear heavy armor, without losing anything too important, to allow themselves to take more than a few hits from physical damage dealing classes whereas wearing robes or light would court them to a swift death.

While on the subject of determining class balance, the roles of classes should be considered heavily.
-In my opinion warriors are currently balanced between defense, offense and disabling however when able to enchant their p.def reducing debuffs their offense power clearly triumphs over other classes causing an imbalanced.
-Rouges are currently largely disablers with good survivability between clones, target cancelling, skill/magic evasion and, the desperately needed to be reworked, hide and fake death skills. The rouges have good assasination ability vs robe classes however with every class turning to wearing heavy armor this proceeds an issue with rouge effectiveness and determining of how to balance classes without creating a large issue in the process.
-Archers are currently "1 minute wonders" as my archer friend likes to put it being that with rapid fire, mindseye, and ultimate evasion (+battle rhapsody) they can easily kill any class albeit a knight in one to three critical hits which is a concern to many players, however once these skills are finished, archers aren't too effective. I suggest reducing the effect of the aforementioned damage dealing abilities and making archers naturally stronger.
-Wizards have been a topic of discussion in the class diversification process as performing under expectations. Currently their debuff abilities need work as the majority of them never land and their most known debuff, hellbinding, creates a lot of glitches when used on players such as causing them to have to relog to go to town when dying under this effect or the less common being unable to use their character after the skill effect concludes. But the most important problem is due to wizards needing robes to maximize their damage output to be useful, they are committed to dying in a few hits to physical damage dealing classes and are conflicted between wearing robes to issue out slightly subpar damage compared to those classes or giving up their potential usefulness in order to live long enough to attempt to be useful. Again suggesting that physical damage needs to be reworked.
-Summoners have always been the awkward class since day one of being truly effective alone and outshined by anything else in groups. Currently summoners are quite adept at killing bosses and high HP mobs that cannot be halfkilled and they are good at AOEing mobs. However there is the longstanding issues of summoners becoming nearly useless after healers pick up brilliant purge due to being a class so heavily dependent on debuffs in PvP to make any impact on battles as their damage is low and they have few skills to inflict damage. However brilliant purge is a necessity against debuffs such as bullseye, armor crusher, hurricane storm and power provoke that allows the already high damage dealing physical damage dealers to inflict tremendous damage on the target of these debuffs which necessitate not only the high protection against debuffs but the wearing of heavy armor as well. Again something that needs to be looked at as it heavily tampers with the balance of all classes.
-Healers I've mentioned plenty already. They are quite powerful in their current setup of heavy armor and powerful skills both offensively and defensively, but unfortunately are needed to be powerful to counter the damage issue I've stated several times thus far.

In short the question is, how will you go about fixing these issues to balance pvp?

Third I want to discuss item usage and equipment.
In regards to equipment, I believe that there is not enough variety. The appearance stones are great for customizing your look so everyone isn't a clone in the end, however one of the great things about old Lineage 2 was the ability to wear armor that accented your class. Take a look at B grade for example. An armor set, bluewolf light set, was an actual set that catered to mystic classes that had light armor mastery. Currently these same mystic types have light armor mastery and no light armor set that caters to them since B grade. Even now, robe sets offer little use especially in comparison the absolutely needed p.def that heavy armor provides to survive in the current pvp metagame.

Will you introduce a better variety of armor sets that can accent each class and offer more choice among players when picking an armor set so that we all aren't limited to two sets, "offense or defense eternal heavy armor?"

About items. The most talked about items are blessed scrolls of escape which are more of an issue among the surpisingly large amount cowardly players in an open world pvp game and the abundance of spammable potions with large healing effects that upset class balance with a great effect alone.

What is your reasoning behind these potions and how do you believe they effect the game? Do you believe that the reuse of these potions is far too quick? Will you continue to create more items like these or will you slowly remove their presence from the game?

Back to classes, more specifically class diversification. As of now many people are curious of how classes will pan out in seperation, for example many ex-necromancer players wonder about the return of curses and the ability to summon undead servitors and many iss enchanters wonder about the return of magic based enchanters (warcryers, overlords, prophets)

Are there plans to further diversify the classes? If so, how will you go about doing it and maintaining balance and usefulness between so many gradually differing classes to avoid the isolation created years ago? (poor prophets, shilen elders, summoners, dwarves)

In my personal opinion, open world PVP has drastically decreased since goddess of destruction especially with the elimination of territory wars, the creation of the instanced "dailies", and the ever growing harsh PK penalties.

What is your viewpoint on the effect PVP has on this game both in a community sense and fun? Will you be adding more PVP events in the future?
Hi,

In the lvl 95 Kartia, the trapped Aden vanguards are female dwarves. But once you reach the boss they are male dwarves. Why is that?

On Fantasy Isle there is a new fashion show, the assistant near the stage talks of weapons and armor. There are no weapon models and you can not try on the outfits. Is the fashion show incomplete? Will the out fits the models are wearing be sold as appearance items in the L2 store?

Since the changes to the academy system with GoD, A grade Appella armor sets can not be worn by academy members. And once you are out of the academy you don't need them. Could this be fixed?

I really like some of the full body armor sets (upper/lower), like Tallum light, Appella, majestic robes... Can you make it possible to skin R grade armor with them. Maybe make single appearance items that give the full set look for them. Like what happens with the Formal wear or santa suit. I would buy an Appella robe one.
When you were asked by a player in Moscow why Elves are so feminine, you answered that this is because they are Elves:
http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=254007#6
I totally agree with that. Elves have high attack speed and high evasion, so they should have a lithe build.

But taking an Elven weapon like a dagger and giving it to an Othell Fortune Seeker is incongruous, to say the least. Dwarven weapons - hammers and axes - are derived from mining tools. Daggers are undwarvish, and especially male Dwarves simply do not have the physical preconditions to use them in an efficient way. Is there a possibility that Othell Fortune Seekers are given Blunt Mastery, like before they Awaken? And why has a Tyrr Maestro a Mastery for two-handed swords and blunts, but not for one-handed blunts?

I can't agree with this, I have more reasons too for it.

1. How you write down the Dwarfs it is mostly the typical form how the western people use to know the Dwarfs, small human type creatures who live inside the mines and use hammers, axes, heavy armors etc. This origins from the German mythology.
But different mythologies or fantasy worlds talks in different from about the dwarfs.
2. Many old concept art of Lineage 2 too symbolize the Fortune Seeker as a Rogue type dwarfs.
3. By their role the Fortune Seekers are the opposite of the Maestros.
While the Maestros always creates something good and wear the best crafted armors, weapons and jewelries.
Until the Fortune Seekers travel around the land of Aden, collect everything what they find and wear often Light Armor or One-Handed weapon, they mostly like some kind of "raider".
4. I think the idea how the development team gave abilities to the Othell Wind Rider and Othell Fortune Seeker are excellent.
High evasion, attack speed, skill reuse etc for the Elves what symbolizes their high agilities.
While improved P. Atk., HP, CP for the Dwarfs what symbolize their good condition and high strength.
5. Many different fantasy worlds build up the Dwarfs often as Rogue type fighters and not as "miner warriors".

For me an old dream became to realm, when the Fortune Seeker in the High Five got Rogue abilities.
Was wondering if there are any plans for the revival of The Mother Tree redesigning the area ( elven fortress, lake iris) for levels 99-105 while maintaining it's happy elvish atmosphere :D
Also any plans to nerf the mind eye + br archers ? They're waaaaaaay too OP , 1 shooting everything that's not in heavy armor.
Just one question : The current curve is always to boost things, are add things which are better than the old one.

To "force" player to awakening, you added new skills which were either with a higher power, or a bigger advantage

With the Lindvior class diversification, you added new skills for each class which are again "more" than before.

The game mechanics are being destroyed by any new skill, or the current combinaison of possible buffs (without even thinking about something like Battle Rhapsody from the Iss Enchanter). Blessed weapons, and highly OE'd blessed weapons will give enormous P.Atk problems.

Some stats are capped since long : Critical rate is easily reached at 500 without DEX dyes. Any Mage, whatever the race, can reach 1999 casting speed (I got exactly 1829 on a LE, with a Robe Set Magic Type (no WIT bonus), no WIT dyes, and a acumen weapon with Iss buffs. I just need the Rudolph buff to reach 1999. The attack speed is also capped at 1500 for a lot of fighters, and it's today common to have more than 1000 atk speed, while extremly rare before. While it was extremly hard to get past 10k HP for a tank before, we know see pvp with Mages having more than 30k HP, and getting hit for an enormous amount aswell

This is creating game disbalance (the most obvious one would be the Dark Elves Feoh Wizard which can also reach 1999 casting speed - like Elves - but with a far higher base M.Atk).

My question is the following : do you consider one day to nerf everything, to decrease any stat and create a more balanced equilibrium ? I will take an obvious example : If you hit for 1,000 a player with 10,000 HP, the feeling would be the same if you hit for 100 a player with 1,000 HP. By decreasing any stat, especially the Atk/Casting speed, you would (it's only my opinion there) give the game slower animations, which is more profitable for everyone.
I have a few questions:

1- What's being done to avoid the numerous bugs that seem to appear in every considerable update being launched?

2- You said, in Russia, that the Windows 8 wasn't supported cause of the old engine the game is using. Considering that Windows 8 is getting a lot more users as time goes by, doesn't that mean the game won't be supported for the most of the PC users in a really near future? Does that mean the game will be closed in the near future due to unsupported OS?

3- For the past 5-6 months we are witnessing a decrease on Events quality. (One decent event in that period and a few of the worst events in L2 history including what most consider the worst christmas event in L2 history) Will we going to see an improvement on this matter?

4- There are a few game features that, due to their lack of worth rewardsfor the time used, (Campaigns, Adena Donation System, Clan Request system, etc) are completely useless at the moment, is their a plan to revamp this in-game features? (I know that part of Aden Donation system will be revamped in the next update so the question is more for the other cases)

5- Will we have new features available for Castle owners, like a revamped manor system, the possibility to obtain Giant's Energy's, or even Iss buffs in the near future?

6- Now, less important thing, will we have some small ingame features like the Pirate Captain Uthanka's Tomb mini event or the Maguen's pet mini game fixed in the future? (I know that this is not a important thing but i would love to see this working as it should)

7- I know its a bit provocative but, can we have a smaller time window for the next Lindvior update launch?

Thanks for your time
The road to xp is kinda straight past level 85, with very few areas which are not for party. As far as I know the only solo spot level 95+ is Seal of Shilen ( I consider the Anterooms in the pagan temple for a small party of 2-3 players). While of course I understand that a MMORPG is mean to be played together, everyone is packed at the same spot, those spots are barely enough for a whole server.

Do you plan to add more xp areas, even if they have the same level requirement than others xp areas ?

One more idea : do you plan a system where the character level is scaled to the area level, and therefore everyone can xp everywhere ? I heard such a system exists in GW2 (albeit I don't have so many details) and I would be happy to spend some time xping in areas like around the Elven Village, in the Elven Fortress or the Enchanted Valley
Do developers account for graphical performance?, are there any plans to improve the current graphical performance?

Despise having a 2000 USD configuration I can't visit Aden with full graphics and obtain > 20 FPS. Sieges are even worst.

how's that a problem ? it's available to everyone ingame..

don't try to nerf my elf or I'll spank your pony's behind!!

In GW2 you're downscaled to the current area's level, but not upscaled if you go into a higher level area. I think it would not work in L2 because the world is a continuous flow of interlinked maps, whereas GW2 has specific maps for specific levels.

The problem is not being available or not, it's the physical limits behind some stats, like Atk Speed / Casting speed which are directly linked to character's animation. The problem also lies with some cap being reached easily.

In a way, having weapons with more stats (because those weapons are enchanted) is not a problem by itself. I didn't consider it as a problem when I wrote my question.

I picture things like before, for example the old Spellsinger and the old Spellhowler. Both were able to get higher M.Atk with a highly OE'd weapon, but there was still a major difference in the casting speed. I don't see this difference between different races now, not anymore

Edit : you are still welcome to spank me whenever you want dirty elf :D

This nerf would essentially boost ur elf race and it's uniqueness.
Sounds contradictory but it isn't
looking for information about high lvl ~97+ non awaken Judicator class.Or other high lvl non awaken classes who chose to not awaken. What will happen with them ? I spend a lot of time and money to lvl up 97+ judicator who was nicely fit in my constant party and was realy usefull at that lvl range. What plans to do with 97+ lvls judicators ? They will be forced to chose class or they can keep their current class and skills.
New question:
- what is a future of Kamael Judicator? Do you have plans to develop this class or its completely removed after Awakening?

Iss Spectral Dancer
Iss Doomcryer
Currently Iss Judicator dont exist
Hello to everyone

Fisrt of all, sorry if my english its not so good cause im from Chile.
I would like to know theres if any plans to improve the pet system.
My vision:
Pets are actually useless.
Same quests and same pets for too many long time.
Theres no point in lvl a pet to a high lvl.
Will be Cool if ppl have some NEW pets according at requirements for PVP or PVE.
For example Wolfs
Snow Wolf: White color (make diferences) Strong P DEF, low speed, Bonus against light armor
Mountain Wolf: Brown Color, less p def, high Speed, Furious atack
Grey Wolf: Medium in all stats
Hawks: Red Hawk, shock atack high speed
Blue hawk, drag atack
Thats my question and suggest... im just telling that nobody use pet system
1) In a recent interview with an Innova staff member, it was disclosed that your team is interested in balancing the ISS Enchanter? Does this mean you currently see them as under powered or over powered? In what areas do you plan to balance them?

2) The introduction of "power" items in our store has caused an imbalance in game. Often these items require a degree of chance, thus sometimes necessitating spending large sums of money in order to obtain the item skill. The items cause the largest imbalance in the Olympiad. For instance, items with cleanse skills (shirt and underwear) can completely change the outcome of an enchanter match, especially in class based matches where the ability to keep suspension on an opponent is a determining factor in who wins. Would you consider blocking some of these items in the Olympiad? Or in the alternative would you make it a set price for the item with skills and remove the chance factor?

3) In line with my previous question, we have had both events and store promotions that have awarded the top boss jewels in game to players, oft times lower level players or people who decided to spend a great sum of money at the store. Some of those jewels are from bosses that have not even been killed by a clan yet (trasken for example), and they have the potential to introduce a power shift in some aspects of pvp (Olympiad/CoC/Siege). The Blessed Antharas/Blessed Valaskas/Trasken/Tauti each sell in game for in excess of 40 billion adena each, and on the RMT market for over $2,400 USD each. Can you understand the harm this does to the competitive market of the game when players must consider investing thousands of dollars in order to compete at the top levels? Are you considering measures to address this?

4) Have you or your staff ever logged into the North American servers to observe our style of game play in order to see how it may differ from other markets? Examples of things to observe would be siege/Olympiad/active population (for setting campaign and quest goals).
1. Are you planning to adjust a bit PvP in game? For example battlegrounds on some fragments of areas from world, with pvp rewards?

2. Many players miss Catacombs - is there a plan to revive them? Including for example something like seal stones and this all ancient adena farm :) I loved to xp there and have a reward in adena additionally.

3. There is huge abandoned by alive players spot (full of bots cause of adena drop...) Hellbound. Any plans to revive it?

4. Why we got that cutted version of Echo update? For example I was planning to make duals with Echo sustem (2 lower grade swords into higher grade duals) and we didn't got it. Why we have another build without some features and why some features are later?

5. There will be possibility for summoners to choose summons or they will be forced to use horses, demons and tailless cats? For example many ppls love looking of a new cats. Or adding some summoner classess for other races (for example wolves for orcs)

6. Are you planning to rebuild pet system? Wolves are pretty cool and nice looking, I would love to see some new armors for them, enchant scrolls, element stones.

7. There will be new races (more animallike like khajits from Skyrim or char from GW) and classess in future?

I think that's all, thanks and keep up good work, L2 is pretty fun and cool game I love :)
1 - For when you will put more new areas of the map, completing grace, more islands, the territory of eastern avella?

2 - you will continue getting more environment animations to give the player more of participating in lore?

3 - On Epic Raid, there will be two versions of each making them playable for players 99 and 80? or our subclasses will be forgotten?

4 - I like hellbound system, helps to unblock Nativs areas and new monsters. There will be more places like this but for soloing? ( that means everyone need to make a contribution for go next stage )

5 - Buffs became melodys, dances / songs in sonatas, prophecys and chant of victory into Harmony's, Judicator buffs all together in battle Rapshody. Judicator will dissapear forever? Battle Rapshody will stay ? Kamaels will dissapear again from aden in his sealed island ?

6 - Any chance to play with a arteia because in the game you can go back in time?

7 - Any chance of playing a character DRAGON KNIGHT or ILLUSIONIST lineage1 when they exist?

8 - Many speculate with multiserver raidboss, if true and shilien fight against players. In this battle involved the 6 dragons at once? or maybe 5?

9 - Is there any possibility that worldwide, all lineage2 players enjoy the updates on the same day?

10 - Beleth is human or elf? :>

11 - Any chance to travel to past to see shilen's war against the god's ? same with giants vs gods ? ( yes many players have curiosity )

12 - http://youtu.be/ifqgaAZA0y4 -> Any posibility to play this ingame or somthing similar ?

13 - Any chance to awake Girtas ( the boss ) from lineage1 here?

regards
Do you plan to give by anyway the old level 83 summoner transforms, which are beautiful and good looking ?
An idea that has came up in my clan was something to add to the pvp system of the game that could be based off of reputation.

A bounty hunter system where bounties could be placed on players and players that accept the bounty can kill those players without penalty for a reward making an in-game penalty for being antagonist towards other players as afflicted players gather adena and add bounties to your head making it difficult for malicious players to safely roam Aden.
Fact 1 : Bots and PvP programs are a problem since several years on the US servers

Fact 2 : No software solution has been found or proposed to fight efficiently those bots

Fact 3 : Since going free to play up to level 85 in Korea, Korean players are complaining about "automated characters" and this fact has been acknowledged by Korean GM :
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/gmroom/view?articleId=535457
I am especially refering to this sentence :

보다 효과적인 프로세스를 확립하여 자동 사냥으로 인한 피해가 없도록 해야 하는 상황임********* 분명*****************************

Question : From those three facts, could you explain why a solution has not been tested or released on US servers since several years, where the problem already exists, which would have allow you to avoid this problem on Korean server ? Does it mean that you don't consider US servers problems as a priority at all as long as we are creating revenue ?
Is there any thought to changing the pk system? The new one is terrible, and we can no longer police the server ourselves from bots as we once did in the past.

L2 is a PvP game, the fact that PKers have essentially been removed from the game has really been detrimental. I used to love pking bots and farmers to open up the good areas to the real player base. But now they're just overrun with bots and really we can't do anything about it.

If anything return it to the old system, the 90% debuff on pkers is overkill.

Also in regards to campaigns is there any consideration to remove them from NA servers? Considering we do not have the population to properly do them, they feel as though they are a waste of time and frankly the pop ups get annoying since you know no one is doing them.
Another question "unleash hell" and "death mass unleash hell" Do you plan to fix those absolutely useless skills ? wich suposed to be best skills for feoh ? :D If no then just remove them from feohs pannel plz.
Two more:

Have you considered turning more raid boss spawn areas into battle zones? Open world bosses are the best pvp in L2, and sometimes the only pvp we see on a large scale outside of siege. I have heard that you plan to add more open world content to fight over, and I was happy about that. Perhaps you might share some more information about future plans.

Are you planning to overhaul the hero skills and weapons once again to make fighting for hero more attractive? There is little value to taking hero currently. The weapons lack element and given the wide spread amount of +10 or higher R99 weapons here, even the patk/matk on hero weapons is not very impressive. Hero skills rarely land on awakened players too.
This thread is now closed. I will let you know when the questions are sent out and when the development director answers them. Thanks everyone!
