Yesterday I was talking with a friend who plays World of Warcraft, and he told me that in comparison L2 is much much easier, both in PvE and PvP. According to him, PvP in L2 consists on standing still in one place pressing F1, F2, F3, repeat, no strategy requiered. You win if your gear is better than your opponent's, nothing else, while in WoW you have to constantly be moving and react much more quicker.
I'd appreciate if someone could tell me how far he is from the truth and give a little more insight regarding this topic.
I'v won many matches with my lvl ~90 othell in immortal vs 95+ chars in seraph.
Standing still and pressing all F's is one way tactic, and in this tactic better gear = win.
And haven't you ever see how good organized party can own 2-3 partys on siege?

I'd say your friend is completely clueless and ignorant. L2 is the best mmo pvp game, its the Counter Strike of the mmo world. The only problem are scripted pvps.

i dont understand why ppl are always comparing apples to oranges...there is NO comparison, tho i personally nvr played WoW, but many of my friends did/do and they tell me WoW suxass compared to l2 ( im beginning to wonder now ). Sooo many of these people i know left for WoW, T.E.R.A, GuildWars, and Aion...only to come back to this game weeks later ( for the life of me, i cant imagine why one would do that seeing how screwed up this game is anymore ). If i had to give you any advice...it would be to STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME...RUN AS FAR AWAY AS YA CAN CUZ THIS GAME GOING DOWN THE TOLIET

These 2 games are totally different so comparison is useless yet since i have played some WoW and some AION here you go.
Starting from the PVE aspect your friend is clueless. Their game is quest based yet L2 is grind based (with some exp instances introduced the last year and a half). PVEing in WoW is more or less the same in time to kill mob yet there you gain more exp and you can always have quest for the mobs you kill. Also in WoW equipment is gained quite easier since you can mostly quest for it. Overall in PVE in L2 you need to grind too much and spend even more time with market so to get equipment yet in wow grinding is limited to mostly quests or instances that actually DROP items.
As for PVP answer is even simpler L2 is pvp game WoW is not. In both games you can take a nuker stand in one place and nuke. You will probably kill someone but that does not mean this is the pvp of the game.
PVE is different. There were no instances and still are very few of them, so people have to fight for resources. That includes hunting spots, raid bosses and dungeon access. Few quests are really on the adventurous side, majority is "kill these mobs and bring me 20/50/100 of whatever they carry". Really they used to be just addition to grinding, get some quest items while you hunt the spot. Also there is nothing like dungeon crawling, you usually take spot and stay there until fed up. OK maybe new instances and Kamalokas are that way, but they are fairly new compared to 9 year old history of this game.
As for PVP, it's open, any to any, not limited to fractions, kill whoever you like to (just deal with consequences if you really do that). This opens up whole can of worms for politics and strategy. As for combat, this game is point and click and you cannot attack while moving. You may have to use a little tactics when to run, use skill, hide behind obstacle etc.
for the life of me, i cant imagine why one would do that seeing how screwed up this game is anymore
*Shrugs* *Rubs feet*

WoW, on the other hand, is a cartoonish joke.
I beg to differ.. L2 is UT of MMO games..
FFA, not huge playerbase, but hardcore one, very hard game to master.. with considerable amount of cheaters.
CS is more WoW... Faction vs Faction, Lots of kids qqing in voice, crapload of almost cheat addons, huge playerbase.. without much practice you can become a good player.
l2 too me has the best open field PvP system. The flag system and pk system is by far the best, that accompanied by the war system is bar none the best pvp system out there. The castle and fort sieges are just epic which blows any pvp on WoW out of the water.
However the PvE content and gear farming aspect of this game has always been complete garbage. Where as WoW, they had always got that aspect of the game correct. Tons of quests with the correct model being effort/time = correct gear.
l2 actually did this very well until for whatever reason they decided to nerf it. People forget that the GoG quests used to reward players with full unidentified twilight armor. Teredor gave full requiem weapons. Too me, I dont understand for the life of me why completing quests, getting quests items and adding them up over time to purchase some gear to apply to your character or sell for profit is soo wrong. I really do not understand people who think this is the ****** anti-christ or something.
This guy is not talking about FFA or whatever, but about which game has the best pvp when it comes to strategy. I agree that WoW is better when it comes to gameplay/player skill in pvp, you need to move constantly, bind your skills on keyboard properly, and learn how to use the best rotation, etc.
I play several MMOs without any bias I know what I'm saying.

.
I do that on L2 aswell, and i would take the risk of saying that any serious pvp'er did it aswell
l2 doesnt have such advance keybinding or macros, doesnt have wasd system, its not based on CC (crowd control) strategy, no combos, you dont move while you use skills, skills are free to use and not conditioned... and many more things. if you played any new mmo you would see the difference.
l2 is ancient, has prehistoric pvp... caveman vs caveman... that the only analogy i can make. most like it for being so simple and no brainer. pve in l2 is pure no brainer and occupy like 90% of the game. im not comparing with wow just with other mmo in general.

This was a very good comment...Even if i play only l2 and gw2 i agree 100%
The pvp is based more on luck and hoping you have a level and gear advantage over your opponent rather than on skill whereas WoW PvP is based more on hoping you have a gear advantage and skill rather than luck or hoping you have a level advantage.
WoW pvp also lasts a last longer and thus gives you more chances to turn the match around whereas L2 pvp is over in a flash due in large part to the luck based nature of the PvP. Luck based PvP is antithetical to skill based PvP.
PvE in L2 is pretty much a joke because NCSoft doesn't believe in making AOEs avoidable by people who would be capable of avoiding them if given a chance (I'm looking at you Fortuna and basically every epic raid boss in the game).
Honestly, L2 servers have lag problem as of right now with simple point-and-click, do you think controlling your character with WASD while attacking, combining skills with precise timing and positioning, would be feasible at all? Wasn't room where you had to walk unseen by guards in Epic quest frustrating enough? :D
