Macros Question

General Discussion Started Last reply 20 posts
If you haven't read my previous post, I haven't been around for over six years, so basically I am a newbie around here (again).

I finally leveled both of my toons up to level 18 and will be starting on my 1st class change here tonight (assuming I get all my homework done. Ugh, going back to college as an adult isn't easy!!! Especially when you work full time!)

Anyway, I am dual boxing on the same computer (I guess that's what dual boxing means, huh? LOL!!) and I just got done reading how to set up macros for assist attack. However, is there a way to set up macros for my healer to automatically heal my fighter when her HP is down a certain percent? Like for example, 50%? I can't recall if I had done this in the past or not or if it was even possible....

I know I can set up my healer to buff after so many seconds (so buffs last about 18 minutes...convert that to seconds and set the macro up for delay)

I ask because even though my laptop isn't really a PoS, there is still some lag between alt + tab-ing between the two screens....just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. And even if it's not possible, oh well. I can just time it so I can safely heal and then get back to fighting again.

Thank you for your help in advance! :D:D

Is not better play just one char? I really did not get why people need play more characters, you never can be top on both of them.

And yes, there is way, but it's not alowed by NC and you can be banned.

The word that worries me there is "finally".. In the "new" L2 there are a whole chain of quests that you can use to level up VERY quickly. Starting from level 1 @ the npc where you begin, each quest follows on from the same npc you hand in to.

If you follow the chain of quests - you will be level 41 in about a few hours (I can do it in a couple of hours or so, but I know where to go and the quick bits, what to avoid etc.)

don't worry if you are past that already, do your class change quest and you should be able to pickup from there in Gludio town - I don't usually bother with the kamaloka quests (instance dungeon) but you may/may not as you wish.

you can setup macros etc - as long as you physically push the button when you want it to happen, you should be ok. If you automate the macro to run every x seconds/minutes then you are effectively automating game play - this could be a bannable offence.

I use Nostromo n52 on my PCs and I just use it as a "nice to hold" keyboard. I have macros setup to follow me

"FOLLOW"
/target %party1
/target %party1

"HEAL and FOLLOW"
/use yourfavouritehealskill
/target %party1
/target %party1

I hope this helps a little.

get buffs from the adventurer helper, they are better than any boxed buffer can give until your boxed buffer is like lvl 90

to be honest, with those buffs, it's perfectly possible to not need a heal in pve till you awaken

automatic healing is as has been said not possible, you can setup a heal macro and click it yourself though

ah, I see what you are talking about, however, I am not using a third party software. I am using myself.

I think it is stupid to use a third party software for a game that is free. or even if it wasn't free.....why use a third party software?

As far as playing more than one character, I think its just a preference more than anything. It's not for everyone and not everyone enjoys it.

Thank you for your response!

You asked this. So i told you the only way :)
Nostromo isn't a 3rd party software. However, a behaviour like the one you suggested (autoheal at 50% hp) programmed with a Nostromo is considered botting, because it reacts to something in the game and it's not a player-made reaction.

I did use the word "finally" inappropriately. It only took me about an hour to level both my toons to 18, which is so much faster than how it was in the past! I am using the quests and the adventure guide for boosts and to level quickly....honestly, I have no idea why I even said "finally"!

I don't really want to use any programs that assists with my second toon, which is why I am using macros. IMO, I don't think you can be banned for using macros, because you still have to click back to the screen to start the macro all over again. I just want to have some kind of break between switching screens while fighting. Then again, I could just carry heal potions if things get too hairy.

Thank you for the response, you helped me out! :D

Right, I can see that happening. However I do not want to use Nostromo...I just want to set up my macros to help alleviate some of the pain of switching back and forth between screens, that's all.

Not looking to cheat here. Like I said before, if it can't be done, that's fine...I can always stock up on healing potions to get myself out of hairy situations. :)

You have a point there! :D
Nostromo is just a gaming device. Most top (non-cheater) players use it to increase their performances in PvX. I personally don't care one bit, I use normal mouse&keyboard devices and macros to heal targets without playing whack-a-mole on the party bar :D

Honestly i still think you should play only one char active. After 91 lvl you just can't use Adventurer buff and it will be hard for you play both chars active (Instances etc).

I could start playing my characters separately at that point, right? Start looking to be groups and stuff I mean.

LOL "whack-a-mole"!
I have never heard of Nostromo before. How does it not count as a third-party program?

Because it's a hardware device, not a software. Therefore, it requires player interaction to be used.
Tiny,
Basic answer here is NO.
The truth is there is no way your 2nd client can know you are at 50% unless you use a ****/cheat program. Your nostro, if you had one, is only good for spamming such things but it can't be setup with a "start doing then when other client is at this" type of intelligence. You need to run where you can see both on screen and have 2 keyboards or sepearat hot keys on same pc to do this type of heal. Now you can do an auto target, party member select and then a heal as the macro but you will have to press the keys to do the macro. Anything else is cheating.

I do this on my 2nd pc with my hot keys being basic, target <toon> heal, etc.
Just get your lvl up by doing the quest and when your toons have more hp you will see on your own when you need to heal and will have time. Also i recommend using a 2nd monitor with your computer. Thats what I use and its great to watch both characters and to easily switch between them for quick healing, attacks, and buffs. Also Nostoromo is a hardware device that is ran off of software so I dont know what ncsoft really considers it. i guess if you did have a next target macro built on it and a small room with a mob spawn it could automate gameplay. So id jus play it safe and not use macros on that in fear of ban.
If second client gets lagged when switching windows what you may want to do is disable decrease of backround performance. I think this option is now called "Optimize performance" and is right side at video options screen. When L2 is inactive it processes and renders every 5 seconds I think, and when switched it needs to "catch up". Disabling background performance decrease causes client to stay current even when inactive - at the expense of CPU cycles of course. Switching between windows is instantaneous then.
Comic sans? in the OP? how cute.
