Game Gaurd Failing

General Discussion Started Last reply 21 posts
Hi all,

Just having some issue today not being able to play L2. Whenever the L2 login app pops up i get the following error code 610. I have deleted the game guard folder and re installed it but the problem keeps coming back and prevents me from playing. Any help from anyone much appreciated.

Mcafee reports every time i install game guard an run it, mcafee says known virus.

Quarantined From \l2\system\gameguard\gamemon.des
Means your McAffee blocks access to GameGuard so the game can't use it. Exclude that file from the AntiVirus...
Thank you for the help. It was sorted out with mcafee support. They made changes to the virus app to allow the game to pass through connections properly.

cheers
surprise surprise, after going through hours of troubleshooting with mcafee they have said the file is suspicious. It would be nice if the game developers can confirm if it's part of the build or not.
Hi, please guys tell me how to do it, i have same problem , i`m not an advanced McAfee user , but i pay lincense for it, and i don`t want to uninstall:confused:
Hi, exact same problem here  Is there any support ?
prob 1 is that anti virus there is free ones that are 200x better. allow those files as an acception in the anti virus and firewall. if that doesn't help this usually works 97% of gameguard errors.

1. Click the "Start" button to bring up the Start Menu.
2. Type in CMD into the "Search programs and files" field but do not hit enter. Doing this will change your start menu to show the program "cmd.exe."
3. Right-click on "cmd.exe" and select "Run as Administrator."
4. Once complete, type "netsh winsock reset" without the quotes. When the command is completed successfully, a confirmation appears, followed by a new command prompt line.

let me know how it works for ya

Hi..No luck, But appreciate your effort
I switched from McAfee, game running better.
It seems they must have fixed it with todays update..It works fine now:)
Was there ever a real fix for this other then turning off mcafee while playing the game? With real time scanning turned on it will crash my game when it removes gamemon.des. Mcafee seems to think this is ncsofts problem for not giving updated information. What a run around for something that everyone says is the others fault.
create an rule for gameguard.des and l2.bin, warning not l2.exe that is all.:D
I have that same issue, and don't use mcafee. And other problem on login is Error: Can not resolve host name. Weird, no single change in system, and those problems appear.
from what I have heard, ncsofts gamegaurd checks your pc for any 3rd party software to report to them. Any antivirus will see this "checking" as suspecious behavior and block it unless you add the files(+parentfolders) to the exclusions.

It's kinda like the same thing that happens when you install two different anti-virus software. They both consider each other to be a virus.

Basically NCsoft is not updating anti-virus companies with their gamegaurd( and updates ), and will just wait till the complaints come (I give you this thread). Whether NCsoft will do anything about it or not... well do I really need to say anything there?

Anyway disable firewall+antivirus and if that fixes the problem, then you have to add it to exclusions (and trust NCsoft not to install trojans and what not).

Actually it is, but I see your intent and am being needlessly obtuse. GG is more of a player protection tool that is supposed to stop key logger's and such, more client side/source than third source. But its also supposed to protect from third source as well, was just never really effective seeing as the third source provider's put more into their effort's to make themselves viable then GG does to protect against them ( they work for month's at a time without being stopped, GG comes up with a fix to block them, one week later the third source has found a fix for the fix~~ ) so they win in the end. Funny thing is at its root GG itself is a key logger, which most don't know~~

Anyway's GG has alway's caused more issues than it solved and should have been replaced long ago, but I bet NCsoft has a contract and that has something to do with GG remaining~~

Voted yes, GL with petition, but they aren't going to change anything~~

I get to quote myself again !

The problem is at its core GG is itself a keylogger, good virus protection program's know this and list it as a known exception in each update ( good anti virus also update every four hours which cover's the rare GG updates as well ), old dog's like McAfee don't correct for GG updates or take forever to finally do it so you have to add the exception yourself, which is bad in itself because if GG itself is ever compromised only good anti virus protection will protect you as it will know about it right away while ones like McAfee haven't even caught up to the legit update at this point and you will have turned it or its monitoring of GG off and will have no protection active at the point GG is compromised. My advice get something better then McAfee, AVG has a free version and it updates its database every 4 hours like any good virus protection should in this day and age.

I agree that AVG is good. I personally use Avast with malwarebytes scanning combo. I have firewall setup with my Asus RT-N66U (along with QOS ). There are more free anti-virus programs here if you want to switch:

But I don't think a person should have to change their anti-virus because of bad gaming development. I guess he has a choice though. Add to exclusions, change anti-virus, or don't play ncsoft games.
Maybe you right about this firewall, antivirus settings, but even after turn off antivirus and disable firewall can't login be cause of GG problem connection. And the most funny is that can't open even L2 website. I did nothing, zero changes and once L2 website and game working, once not.
ErrorCode=380
Errorcode=610

Don't have any ISP, connection problem, all works fine, only L2 web game issue

I was under the impression that one of the reasons we never switched to Frost was because it also used a keylogger program, which violates some privacy laws or something. Agree about mcafee, pay for horribad old resource hog, never on any of my machines.

Sounds like you may have a virus blocking it. I would say uninstall/reinstall, but you say you can't access the website. This makes me think it's a virus. Download malewarebytes and run it. Another thing you could try is system restore to a known good point before when the game was working.

Well kinda, the difference is that GG only work's on a local basis ( and not very effectively ) i.e. it will shut the game down on your CP if it detect's a "error", it doesn't report. Frost intercept's ( effectively ) third party packet's and local, it also report's back to a outside source itself, hence why you get insta banned if caught doing a no no over there. That's the difference, the reporting ( and the fact it actually work's  ) which violates our privacy law's supposedly, even though the government and big companies like Google and Microsoft do it whenever they so desire.
I made full format and reinstall windows and L2.
Did exceptions for windows firewall and antyvirus AVG:
gameguard.des
gamemon.des
l2.bin
And hurray game works, did dailys etc and log out, after few hours attempt to open game, and what happened - the same gameguard errors. So, at this point I don't know any solution but only one - kick L2 from my computer :(

For over one year in L2 had no such problems, so it means "gz developers"
