Well, i dont know what kind of player you are but game is good, not awesome like before but still good.
Problem is the cheating issue. It just makes this game unplayable if you are a legit player seeking for a challenge. It just doesnt make sense to play vs people using third party software. But once again, i dont know what kind of player you are. If you are seeking for fun you will find it for real, maybe. Same with friends.
If that's the case then why are you guys still here?
i play the game on an as-needed basis. i don't feel i must be superpowered best person ever. every so often i feel like killing a few mobs. then i get bored and log off.

I'm in the same boat, plus this game got me interested in 3d animation/game design.
Look at all the comments about how a private server > retail.

Here is nothing funny, if you have Event items is easy leave server but if you play here 2 years and have all items +++ made by playing 15h/day you can't leave its not easy decision
I think it is stupid idea ask about this on the forum.
In the last 2-3 years since the game is free the forum got amazing amount of trolls, most of them players who failed in game or got banned or just r.tards.
Look to nowadays the bot/cheat etc things are available on servers in every games. Same as it is in the L2 or even more.
So, if you don't wish to meet with cheaters better if you don't play MMO.
Look, if you focus to only yourself in the game and dont watch what another people has and what they do, you just enjoy your gameplay, a day you can achieve anything what you want and you don't need to cheat, but it is fact it will take longer time, but if you enjoy the game, it isn't problem.
Ah and still something you can read on this forum as what just you want to read, but it will always a fact that Retail Servers > Private Servers. We got many players from private server who can't or couldn't keep the step with the old school official players, so may they are on different viewpoint but only, because of this or maybe because they like better the Prelude-High Five updates.

There are four main reasons people quit retail
1. Excessibe botting in the past from scripters
2. Banned for botting
3. NC Store
4. Not appealing content
Also people quit l2 in general as some people play games till some age.
1. Is greatly fixed
2. No comment
3. Imho what is available in NCStore should be available in game with a bit less power.

100 units of currency 10 years ago is not as valuable as 100 units of same currency today. 100mil is nothing compared to those years back to your set did loose an immense ammount of value.

+6 DC robes in C5 were 500m, and that was only because they had begun adding bonuses to +6 items.
SOM clean was 80m, with sa was 180. no way is an SOM 80m today, thats Req buster prices. max price for SOM now should be less than 40m. its crystal value is just over 28.

I wouldn't call it viable. Time invested gave decent reward. Now? I don't even want to use shot when farming SP points. I don't even know how lower level players can progress in this environment. Login for a few hours, get 5-20%, lose a couple million, logout. Sounds amazing. Everything you do practically loses money. Some days I feel like I'm playing a 1929 simulator.

Same...this is what keeps me playing. I do my daily stuff...occasionally raid and party up for short term grind sessions for fun, then get off. If I worried about top everything, and trying for hero all the time, I'd go nuts being a failure since I have no scripts and buy nothing to propel myself to an elite competitive level. I'm happy with just playing and enjoying it. Tons of alts on 4 filled up accounts give me plenty to do when bored.
I remember a Shinobu from Bartz, is that you? Wb and yes this game is worth coming back to. There's plenty to do, leveling is way easier regardless of the fact that you can't do a level per raid boss since the expansion. Yes there's bots but mostly they're easy to get rid of or avoid. All the servers were merged to Chronos at one point. Most of the pvp is "let me get my main that i botted to 99" or "omgawd scripter" but there's still people who fight fair in the game too.

The curve to even stand a chance against the current top players is really high. You need to invest a lot of time and effort in order to just not be free food for top players (not even PvP ready).
It's no higher than it was back then, if anything it's easier because there are places even the most hated players can hide, and any 12 year old can get hero or own a castle.
