Guys, really, I can't understand something. I am 16 years old and since I was young, I have been hearing about lineage 2 all the time. I have been hearing things such as, ' it has an incredible style and if you play it you can't stop it', ' because of its huge maps you can go everywhere and fight', ' there are so nice classes and gears', etc, etc, etc... But, what I really see is that there are many different threads which say that lineage 2 is dead or that people are not active.
Because I am a new player and I can't say many things what I see about lineage 2 is that it was a very successful game, but now, due to several problems( which I don't know), it has lost its magic for playing it. That's why, I would like you to tell me what happened all this time and why some people say bad words about this game.
To my mind, it is not that bad, but it is not the best game too...
Ayrri... even if I am 16, what does that mean? I am not old enough, but I love playing these rpg games...
Also, you haven't answered what I have asked... I don't tell you that you MUST answer it, but I would like to have a general idea about Lineage 2, because even if many things have beed heard about it, there are many negative comments :(
What happened to L2? Good question. A combination of things happened.
First. The administration allowed botting. Plainly bots and adena rmt are so prevalent that the Rules whatever they may be are pretty lax.
Second. Bugs. Since day 1 we have not had an uptade to patch some known bugs nor do we get infromation regarding known issues.
Third. They changed the rules. Every time you turn around in this game something changes. Everything from karma to territory wars. Everything gets changed even if the system works properly.
Fourth. Ncoin. Everyone. Everyone in the game thought it was a terrible idea. But nc brought it in anyway.
Fifth. Time. Time is required to invest in your character to make it strong. The strongest in each server simply invested more playtime to get ahead. This forced a power struggle.
Sixth. Korea. This game was built in korea adis still popular there ten years after launch. Since they are the largest playerbase they get to call the shots regarding how the game is developed. They have made a very pve game and the NA players have wanted more pvp.
There are more but you can tell from this what broke the game.
DennisKrem, I've been playing Lineage 2 for 8 years now. Yes, the game has changed in many ways, but like anything else.. take it with a grain of salt and simply enjoy it for what it is.
IMO the game still has a lot to offer. I took a 2 year break basically because I was tired of the grind, and then found that my old desktop could no longer handle it. I purchased my first laptop a year or so ago and decided to download it and give it a try once again. Since coming back I've awakened, have decent gear and have joined a great clan and am making new friends every day so I for one am having a blast!
Like anything else in life, it's what you make of it. Make friends. Explore the different territories and enjoy the beauty of it. And always remember it's the journey that makes it all worthwhile.
i find the community of players in l2, although a bit downtrodden at times about certain subjects... is a better community than many other online games. here, people all share common problems and hardship.
we don't care if you are casual or hardcore.
i feel other games where everyone is smug, and arrogant...
lineage 2 we are family.
even those twisted nut jobs who should be institutionalized.
they're like crazy cousins... you'd still go to their wedding if you're invited...
if nothing else for the free beer.

Devs destroyed balance since Kamael. Bots fully destroyed economics since the game became free.
When it was The Chaotic Throne Interlude than yes it wast the best MMORPG ever made. Thats why many private java servers are on Interlude.
OK, I learnt many things, thanks! Also, whatever you would have answered I would continue playing this game, but I wanted to learn more things. Moreover, I know what the game is about, because when I was even younger I played Asda Story, which was a game very common to L2 as it was a MMORPG and I have an idea about these games...

L2 dont lost the magic. Now L2 is a game for people from the dark forces.
To play this game as a competitive player you must have Brandom Stark third eye habilitie (more details in game of thrones wiki). You need see the sight beyond the sight.
When you open your third eye you need to go to black market and buy some stuff. When you got a competitive char you need begin your "soldiers of fortune" and put in your inventory the high number of coc pots, draco pots and warrior pots, use yor third eye to use it when you hp falls. Now you are a comllete char:
- You have third eye hability
- You can sight beyond the sight
- You got some stuff from dark forces
- Your soldiers of fortuna grant to you a good number of coc pots
But.... But... You still die.
Go to item sugestion and make a new drama, talk to nc put super heal pot into L2 store.
The game dont lost the magic. You need learn how to use mafic with numbers 01001010011001.
To my mind, it is not that bad, but it is not the best game too...
The best opinion of the game you can get will be from yourself. Not that everyone here is bad, but you'll likely get more negatives here than help or positives. I personally don't get as bent out of shape about bots and pvp etc that many here do, as this is not my #1 priority in life, but to each his own. Just try the game...read around for actual tips/guidance, but don't come to the forums for opinions...stay far away from these forums if you can.
Edit: You're 16....shouldn't you be out chasing the girls? Or guys, if that's your thing...but again, to each his own. lol

It was one of the best games back in 2003-2006. What changed?
1. Leveling became instanced. Gone are the days when you would form leveling parties and drink beers with your buddies while grinding 16 hours a day. You would sometimes have pvp show up, drama, and lots of fun stuff that you will never see again.
2. Raid bosses became instanced. Gone are the days when powerhouse clans would fight each other to kill end game raid bosses.
3. PVP became scripted. Gone are the days when player tactics and reaction skills are what won pvp battles.
4. Pay to win. Gone are the days when you had to be in a top clan to get the best gear, or play the market to earn the best gear. Now everything is NC coins and you see people spending like $10,000 for virtual gear that can only be bought through nc coins and not sold in game market.
5. No more death penalties. You used to drop items/gear when you died to monsters. You used to drop when you were red. There was no debuff for going red, but you had to watch your back because you were a walking treasure box. You used to lose 4% exp per death which would take hours (if not days) to get back. This forced people to not play like an idiot because mistakes were not forgiven.
6. Reputation mattered and botting was unacceptable. All clans (at least on bartz) would kick any players out if even they had a past history of botting. When server merges happened for the first time it all changed.
7. All 34 classes had their own advantages in how the game was played (some in pvp, some in pve, some in farming money).
8. Then ncsoft as a company and its horrible customer support (is there any? I'm still waiting for someone to service my ticket from 2 weeks ago). They don't care about their customers and would rather ban legit players than actual bots and farmers (look back to the community in 2005 with grandsavage).
Summery: you force people to play a business and not a game, then they will look elsewhere. Personally, I've been off this game since awakening, but I have never found another game that will ever be like lineage 2 (2003 - 2006) r.i.p. My next try will be elderscrollsonline, archeage (been waiting since 2008), and black desert. Best of luck to all the players who sunk thousands of dollars into this game... and LOL.
Its the "since I was young" part that makes ppl laugh here...:P what has make this game not so enjoyable? bots not letting ppl xp, scripters not letting ppl pvp.. the company dont help at all players that dont want to buy NCoin and make events only for NCoin.. bugs that are not getting ever fixed.. (check game list the one with fairy and cubic is 8month bugg now WTF!).. IF you want to play with friends get a clan on your time zone and have fun as I do.... If want to start alone i don recommend it...its pretty hard do it all alone here at start

Oh Hai James, didn't think you stalked these forum's anymore~~
Anyway's, a lot of what he said but to make it simpler, if you didn't play L2 before GoD came out, you'll never really understand what made L2 simply put, the best time sink, drama machine, love/hate, political whirlwind, emo inspiring and pure PvP based MMO ever made, that will forever hold a place in the heart's of those that were able to experience it's complexity and grandeur~~
The only reason it remained a little off the beaten path, not so well known as WoW was because NCWest never really put any advertisement into it since we were their secondary market, Asia being the primary and where advertisement dollar's were spent, and it was a grindfest, which highly discouraged casuel play~~

This is one of the things I would like to see NC do more of here, is advertise the game more. Relying on "word of ear" can only do so much.

The problem of L2 is not the grind, but:
- the quality of the grind it means risk-reward balance
- drop rates
- problems with class balancing
- gameplay and mechanics
- pvp-pk rules
If you look at Lineage 1 it is a good example of a successful grinder:
L1 made in second quarter of 2013 84 billion KRW(korean currency) and in third one 62 bi KRW while L2 only makes 13+bi.
L1 has almost everything L2 lacks(except graphics as L2 is newer it has better graphics).
But for a MMO, graphics are the least important issue for the gamer otherwise L2 would be more successful than L1.
- L1 has a perfect balance between risk and reward, its drops rates are balanced along with the grind unlike L2, it is hardcore but it is not boring as L2(whose grind has become a nightmare due to risk-reward-drop rates unbalances), and in L1 you can still lose items if a mob kills you(L2 lost it in C5 if I'm not wrong).
- In L1 you continue getting drops from low level mobs, it helps a lot to seek for crafting materials, in L2 low level mobs give nothing and the player must go to stronger mobs to get drops and materials.
- There are some unbalances in L1, but they are nothing when compared with the huge unbalances in l2.
- L1 offers faster gameplay mechanics than L2: it also helps making the grind and open pvp more amusing than L2, L2 is basically a L1 in slow motion.
- In L1 world bosses are wanted and lots of mass pvp happen over them and the pvp-pk mechanics look like L2's on its glory days. The instanced raids in L1 didn't kill the open world pvp for bosses as we see in L2.
- In L1 no low level zone was destroyed, transformed in high level zones, one of the reasons why the crafting was not destroyed like in L2, in L1 crafting-material collecting works fine and it remains the same since the game was born.
- In L1 the low level content-low level crafting is meaningful because there was no changes in hunting zones-leveling curves in L1, in L2 all the content-crafting from lvl 1 - 85 was destroyed and became meaningless.
In the end, L2 is a huge lesson for NCSoft: about what to do and what not to do in a MMO. Their have corrected themselves, based on the mistakes made in L2.

L2 is no longer grind intensive, hence I said pre-GoD, also all these thing's you allude to, L2 once had pre-GoD, you quoted me, but somehow that whole pre-GoD thing seem's to have eluded you.
As for L1, that is also NC's product and has a huge fan base in Asia it never enjoyed in the west, that's why they closed the L1 server's over here a few year's ago. L2 also had/has way more races and classes than L1 ( L2 is actually a prelude to L1 lore wise, by the time L1 roll's out in the timeline, dwarf's, orc's, dark elves, kameal's and any new races L2 add's have long since died out, been wiped out or have gone away ) which makes for a greater imbalance here and there, but for the most part L2 was balanced in a very complicated paper/rock/scissor's kinda way, with one class or two being ascendant generally each chronicle.
The Asian market is far more open to grind intensive games then the western market ever will be, that's why WoW, EQ and Diablo did so well over here. I still think to this day L2 could have came close to WoW even with the grind back then if NC had advertised itself half as much as WoW did, showing some RB content, open world PvP content and especially castle siege content which along with the open world PvP no other game has ever come close to.
I really understood what you've said, but I still have 1 question. What actually wow provides that L2 doesn't have and make it a better game? Because from what I know you pay every 2 months 25 euros, or something and may not people be able to give those money. In general, I will continue playing this game to make my own considerings, but as I said I wanted to know a few things. Also, I said 'when I was young', meaning when I was even younger, because I couldn't call myself a baby at the age of 10...

There are some issues in L2 that make people afraid of it:
- Costumer support, in L2 it is a joke, WoW is light years better, being F2P is not an excuse because GW2 is F2P and has a much better support.
- Game-economy dominated by bots.
- PvP dominated by scripters.
- L2 is P2W, if they want F2P there are lots of options of F2P MMOs that are not P2W like GW2, Rift,..., EQ Next(in development).
- Most western players don't like click to move, they like WASD gameplay + tab targeting. The only exception is for isometric RPGS-MMORPGS.

Hello yourself,
Yeah, it is hard to describe the fulfillment the game once give. That is a good way to describe it. BTW who are you? I don't remember anyone named BigBubbles, and I didn't think anyone would remember me after returning to these forums of many years of absence.

WoW appeased more casual gamers, and L2 made casuals run away. I'll give you the break down and compare WoW (Vanilla) to L2 (prelude):
WoW:
1. Instanced everything.
2. Hit cap level in under a week without having to grind (questing is not grinding).
3. Raiding (end game) 40man made easy with a guild who knows what they are doing.
4. Constant gear drops off monsters.
5. Faction based (only pvp the opposite faction).
6. World broken into states/zones.
7. No death penalties (drop gear or loose exp).
8. All end game gear binded (unsellable).
9. No overenchanting system.
Lineage 2:
1. No instances anywhere
2. Play about 15 hours everyday and hit level cap in about 1-2 years.
3. Raiding (end game) requires 100-200+ players for scaling to kill end game raid boss. Raid boss only spawned once every other day (except Valakis and Baium which was 5days - 2 weeks). You had to have pvp parties up to protect your raid group from clans you were at war with, or use in game politics to have alliances help protect you against a common enemy.
4. Farm 15 hours a day and you would be lucky to see 1 piece of gear drop.
5. PvP would come at anytime, but there would be a price. Need I explain how the karma/flagging system used to work? You could also pvp/pk anyone regardless of their race/gender/class.
6. Open world which gave the user a more exploration feeling than this locked in a box feeling.
7. If you died to a player while not red, you lost exp. If you died to a player while red, you lost exp and gear. If you died to a monster regardless of your pvp status, you lost exp and gear.
8. All gear was re-sellable and this allowed users to help with the purchasing of their next graded gear.
9. Overenchant gear and watch it break, or buy it over enchanted if you don't have any rng luck.
In WoW, you would be forced to create alts because you hit end game so easily.
In Lineage 2, you would only have time to work on your main class, and only alts if you needed a break from playing your main.

Ok, I understood it, but I have a question again! :D When you say that the support gives a f*** about players, in the past it was an other support and it was helpful?...

In the past you could at least recover an account if you forgot the info. They also had a support number you could call.

If you quit before GoD and never logged in since, they deleted your account's, if you are trying to log in your old ones ( Del got me to come back for a month or so only reason mine are still there ), anything pre GoD gear and lvl wise is pretty much worthless now anyway's and you can do 1-85 in a day if you really want to James, if you wanted to give it a go again, but I don't think you will enjoy it.
It really isn't the same game anymore, its just a rush to 85 soloing, then rushing to 99 doing mostly instances to just get started, the real game start's at 99 now and your Visa is your new boss jewel's, no sense of community left or chances to freely party with clanmates/friend's unless with in two level's~~
As to who I am James, the guy that got you off of KoS with gano ( Vengeance leader ), Orm ( UR leader ), and generally had your back through your L2 career.
If that doesn't ring a bell, the drunkest dark elf to ever play the game !

oh hai, I thought you were dead. Good to hear you're still alive and kicking ( hopefully not knee caps :) ). I'm currently playing with a good group of people in a game i feel mediocre about (ffXIV).
As for the account deletion, I dodged that when I got the email.
I was able to recover my main account, but am having trouble transferring the other 4 to their own master account. Support said to contact them if I have issues with this. I tried contacting them and I get no response. Oh well's lol.
When I did log into this game it felt like advertisement galore being thrown at me (l2 store, rmt shouts, so forth). Plus even if I managed to gear myself out with a 99 toon, pvp is scripted and not really fun. You are right the game is not the same and is not something I would enjoy or feel it's worth putting time sink into.
Also, I'm doing some training with a guy who has been in the programming industry for 30 years (worked at Nasa, Microsoft, and now Qualcomm). He said once I become an effecient programmer (not some hacktard who can write scripts that will later produce bugs like all the devs in the gaming industry), he would be interested in starting our own project to make our own game. I was thinking of going towards the model of what L2 used to be like. What do you think?
In any case let me know if you find a decent game to play and I'll join up with ya. I might not have as much time to play due to software engineering being a 60-80 hour a week job, but I will be able to make time on weekends for sure.
Im going to keep this nice and simple for ya OP. Lineage 2 lost its magic because it was made by koreans or chinese or whatever they are. Lineage 2 lost its magic because it never evolved. It stayed the same. It was at one point a beast of an MMO. Best there ever was at its time. Never had more fun with a game to be honest.....But like I said it never evolved. And plus bots and buying cash with irl money played a significant part in its downfall. This is why you NEVER trust korean/chinese/japanese game developers. To them....a good game....is running from mob to mob gaining minuscule amounts of exp and gold per kill.

Lineage 2 evolved, just into a pile of crap. They had a good system going and they changed it for the worse. But that wasn't what killed the game. The majority of people I asked why they were quitting was because:
a. Bots
b. RMT Take Over
c. PVP is 100% scripted and not about who is the best skilled anymore.
d. Lack of customer support
e. RL is knocking and they didn't have time for the game.
f. Every update put more and more sanctions on the L2 world to keep one clan at the top.

Good seeing ya,
Cheers.
Yo Russ,
Was the wall of text too big? What are game are you playing (if any)?
Also, white list me on your pm's so I can give you my contact info.

Well summarized but L2 in it's skimpy diluted population still survives and yes .99 Lv is whr the game ply is but for a very small community . RMT, Scripting are the power tools along with Nc Coins . L2 is for ppl who take it as a hobby now, not jst a game thus RL money is Injected.
Bottom line is adaptation at this point the constant complaining is futile.

I agree, complaining is futile (due to NCsoft not listening to NA customers). But if someone asks a legitimate question regarding why the game used to be so good, I'm happy to answer (because I believe someday someone will make another good game).
In regards to L2 "surviving", you have to keep in mind Lineage 1 was making more income for NCsoft than Lineage 2 was: http://mmofallout.com/ncsoft-q1-2013-finances/
We all know what happened with that game. But hey, whatever makes you feel comfortable.
Personally, I can't wait till they shut down L2. Then I get to read about all the mass suicides (people kill themselves because reality sets in on $$$$$ they wasted on virtual goods they no longer have access to) as a good source of entertainment.
All of my friends...RL and in game quit shortly after the release of GoD, the game just wasn't fun anymore. In the beginning we would play for hours upon hours and have a great time....now it is just boring and has turned into a game of Visa card vs Master card. It is actually sad considering how great this game once was................:(
so everyone just needs to quit this game and stop complaining.

Agreed,
BTW is there any games out that is good atm? I can't seem to find any that last less than a month (casuals complain about rushing through content).
