You have the right attitude, but you probably won't enjoy the game.
After you hit 85 in about 4 days or so, you and your wife will be the same class (34 classes became 7 classes at 85). Game is pretty much dead and everything is instanced. Good luck on finding a party. All pvp is 100% scripted. If your a strictly pve player, you won't find many real parties out there. My best advice, find a clan where the type of people is those who you fit in with. It shouldn't matter if they bot (because from what I have seen 95% of all players do), or do any kind of cheating. Just enjoy the company of people you can get along with. Good luck.

Having no idea about the state of clans, I would just focus on a clan that likes to help answer newbie questions. Rule of thumb I go by when new to games:
1. Join a clan to help you understand the content better.
2. If you are unhappy with the clan you are in, leave and look for another clan who fits your play style better.
3. Once you hit end game, if clan is slowing you down from doing end game participation and you think they will never get there. Join end game clan.
If I had to take a guess, I would say the requirement for most clans is at least 85+. I don't think the community is very newbie friendly.
Welcome back mate.
Some tips and hints that will make your life easier:
1. As you level up, there will be pop up icons that suggests you, to do certain quests. Most of the time it will be something like "Kekropus letter". Complete those quests it's the fastest way to 85 level.
2. Don't lose time by trying to obtain equipment. As you level up, all the gear that you will need, can be found by "path to awakening". You just log in your NC account via Lineage 2 Site, click "manage" on Lineage Icon, click "Path To Awakening", select Server and Character, claim the gear, and then go in-game to any Dimensional Merchant NPC, at any town and take the gears for free.
3. Ask for a Mentor. Having a mentor gives you the basic buffs set, and 50% Bonus xp as long as mentor is online. Also, as long as your mentor is online, you can summon him to give you a class-oriented buff. Any character over 85 level that completed their 4th transfer class, can be your mentor.
You can shout in-game for a mentor or you can sent me a mail, i am online most of the time and i will be happy to help you out as much as i can. As you level up, your Mentor gain "Meentee Coin" that allows him/her to obtain specific items via Mentor Guide NPC.
The truth is that Lineage lost most of it's romance and there are bots everywhere. If you don't let it ruin your fun you're gonna have a good time with this game.

Ignore people like this...they're haters and/or plain miserable people that clearly aren't skilled enough to find enjoyment in this game one way or another. There's plenty of fun to be had here at all levels, so ignore the naysayers....When you hit that spot where you're unhappy, fight through it, or play an alt....there's plenty to do.

I was probably the last person on bartz who cared about clans botting or not before the transfer to chronos. I was in denial even when every person on the server was trying to tell me every clan has botters and it's widely accepted(and in most cases, a requirement for becoming a clan member).
After coming to realize this and accept it a year later, I still never botted. But I no longer cared if other people did. I would tell the clans I joined "look, I don't care if you guys bot, but just accept that I never will and we will get along fine." That is why it shouldn't matter, because if it does matter, then you probably won't enjoy the game.

English is my third language, Russian is my second, Hebrew somewhere between first and second :p. Japanese is my native tongue. Now don't you feel bad ?
I played the game back when it was CB, then OB, then release or about a year before I started flight school to become a Captain of a charter airline company. I fly the Gulfstream G4, Falcon 90, and Cessna Citation II medium business Jets. The G4 is a heavy luxury jet and not many clients fly that unless they can afford $580,000 a ticket! Not many female captains in the skies, so show some luv! (Yes I have hood friends !) Anyway, for now its recovery, then we'll see as I get better. BTW I am lvl 50 and following this path to Awakening. I think its pretty neat the rewards you can get, keeps you going. Only peeve is I run out of soul shots. Unless I am doing something wrong oO like, killing too much?

So very old player then. It's a shame your CB/OB account got wiped. You could have had some awesome legacy goodies on it (like a very very old character birthday).
Also for soulshots, if you're running daily quests, Kekropus letters, have mentor exp buff on and hunting in the exp adjusted zones you shouldn't be running out of SS.

Sounds like you're grinding the wrong mobs. When you get the steel coin quests, those spots are generally the best places to stay and grind after you complete the quest...or ask around for better places....You shouldn't run too low or out of shots if you stick to the higher xp places.
