I keep hearing this game is P2W, this and that.. and GM's not caring
I dont know, I still want to play this game. I remember when I played it as a kid when it was still P2P was so excited, grew up and forgot about games but I really feel like playing L2.
So, I know im going for this experience with a "bad managed game" but I dont care, so what I need to know is hows the population?
Can a new-gamer log in and find a couple here and there, enough to get me through the first kamaloka or whatever that dungeon was called ?
Also whats the most populated server & more request support class (as i like healing and stuff).
This game has a serious issue stemming from the release of GoD. There is the "Power Creep" issue. Nevermind the bots, it's the Power Creep that is killing off the players. With each update in content, the noodleheads at NCSoft introduce content that is supposed to challenge the players. Players being players, don't like to be defeated so they try to get the gear that is supposed to help them compete with the latest and greatest bosses, raids, and xp areas. Who is selling the latest and greatest gear? NCSoft has the stuff to help you get it, for a price of course. The players who have disposable income, are sadists and/or angry at the world, and want to stay on top will buy the gear. Those who don't have the money or don't want to feed the corporate treadmill will find themselves getting frustrated at the overbalanced gameplay and PvP. NCSoft has really screwed up the microtransaction system in hopes to keep the game alive.
People get angry at the Power Creep and quit. Is people quitting going to end the game and bankrupt NCSoft? Nope, because NCSoft knows there will be people coming back to the game and get convinced to buy stuff from the NCStore before quitting again in frustration.
OP, I will give you 4 months before your spot on the server gets replaced with another player character. The reasons will be anything including getting frustrated with NCSoft as a company.
save yourself the time and go play something else.
if you dont wanna spend at LEAST 6 months to get 99, you gonna have to cash in some $$$$ to get there faster.
game content is extremely repeatable after 85 where all you do(the stuff worth doing(but not rly)) is basicly daily instances and quests. every single day the same ****.
if you want decent gear prepare yourself to cash in more $$$$$$$ either from adena sites or buying tradeable store items to sell ingame. adena amount has been reduced more the 10x and item drop rate also. while every thing in game costs same thing.
when u finally get 99 u gonna see that if your not with overpowered gear and maxed out skills your nobody. 1 shot to any p2w fe g.
also, even if your another p2w f eg, you missed the ****** brooch sales.
i can go on and on and on and on and on and on with why its a terrible idead to come back from 0 in this game or even if your coming back from pre god. but i hope u got the point with this.
if your not a heavy botter or dont have 10000$+ to spend on this game dont even install it.
and every server is crawded with bots. they just made a strategic clean on them cause a new update is coming. but for the next 6+ months until the next one they will rule strong. even more on next update where they reduce adena amont even more.
Archers and Nukers are considered OP. Archers and Daggers are mostly needed for their half kills in certain areas like Gainax. Healers and ISSes are hard to find played live. If you go live healer, you will be snapped up for PvP clans, that is if you know how to play it live. Summoners are good as solo players but if you play one, you will be called a bot. Same goes for ISS Doomcryers and Dominators. But, it doesn't matter what you play as long as you have the right gear and NCStore bought items. Speaking of NCStore items, did you know the events are mostly NCStore driven? L2 has changed over the years. It's a fun game if don't mind how broken it is. And when I say broken, I really mean the bugs and glitches that are more apparent now than before GoD. Ask other players how long it took for them to fix the field raidboss xp bug? Or the war declaration exploit during sieges. Or perhaps you will soon discover how fast the CoC fills up. People yell "PAY2WIN!" and whether you believe them or not, you will discover that this game is monetized to the point where the people from the free server crowd scream 'DONATOR" and the people who have been around since pay2play days are slowly leaving the game because what was once 15 bucks a month has now become "buy the latest thing in the NCStore" to keep up or catch up. You may see this as all negative community mumble jumble but it's the truth and what is happening right now. But, I digress. I hope some of this helps and remember, you too, will be one with The Borg.
So could I at least have the MOST POPULATED server? the ones that have a little guild vs guild balance/competion.
Guides for classes? I really want/need one. Dont like going in blind!
Most populated NA server is Chronos, and Naia if you are Euro. Not gonna lie, what they say is true, but if you take it casually you can have fun. If you play, get a mentor right away. Going from 1-85 is easy, and its fast, you could take a little time though to get your feet wet, talk to people along the way and try to join a clan's academy. At 85 either join that clan or shop around for a decent PvE clan ( on Chronos that would be Sunshine ) and do your dailies, which your clan mates will explain. You'll figure it out from there. ;)
I agree with Bubbles except on one thing. Sunshine may be "pve" but they are stepping out with PVP clans to get some things done and have gone so far as to show up at other castles during sieges to assist one side or another. With that being said, expect some blowback from certain clans that think warring pve clans over a castle is the only way to handle a given situation. Part of the game.
Best bet I can throw your way is to look for a clan that has been around awhile and has some history. Only reason I say this is at least when you ask about them (prob via the app stage) you can get some idea as to how stable they are. Looking for a clan that doesn't jump sides to whoever they think is gonna win, and has a majority of clan members that have been in the clan over a few months.
Not saying sunshine doesn't have a lot of solid members, just don't want you (due to your level) to have to much grief to deal with.
If pve clans are gonna go to pvp events, they should not come crying coz of some wars thrown.
You wanna eat the cake and keep it, and sell half the cake on the side too.
Show up at a castle a clan holds, that is an invitation to a war. Just deal with it.
Jami has a point though. Join a clan that has an application process, that way you know they arent just some new clan that is gonna disband on first sign of hard times. Or has tons of drama.
Make sure they have and use ventrilo. Typing questions and answers are tedious, and most things to a newcomer or "comebacker" are easier to explain by voice than text.
If the clan is in an ally, that helps too. Gives you alot more ppl to party with.
It's like watching a cocaine addict going back for more, but then realizes that white powder is only sugar lol, I love it.
FYI Archeage has same devs as original L2 did. It comes out next month. Start looking into that if you are in the gaming boredom pit of despair like most of us.
What Smittie said about vent is true, I can't believe I didn't add that, while a lot of people think L2 isn't a friendly community ( it's true to a extent ) and older players won't answer questions, you'll find once your in vent with them they are quit friendly and willing to help. Its not so much we dislike newbs as its we don't want to sit there typing all day answering questions rather then do something productive.
Once your in a clan and in their vent your clan becomes like a online family once you get to know each other, unless your a jacka55 or you join a clan of jacka55's, in those cases, oh well. :D

It has a 6 rune system which maxium level is 13, in order to get to lvl 7 (which is a crappy level still) you need 1 year of grinding if you wish to at least get a glimpse of end game. and I mean a glimpse, if you made the right friends, right moves with guilds, never did a single mistake pvp-wise as this game is really selective (the end game community)
hell, lemme put it this way to get to LvL 13 runes you need 20k$, thats with runes only, not counting the endless parade of mounts they have (one is more op than the other), rubies (which is a skill tree), talent points (active skills) and so on..
if you have 30k$ you can play this game.
I dont care if it's P2W L2, i'm not looking to be the ultimate fighter here, this game has 10 years updates, 10 years of players, 10 years of history. I can't just login and be ready for action, of course I plan on spending money as I do have it.
(got to 11/11/11 on offense and 10/10/10 on defensive runes on this game im mentioning)
So while its A HUGE! HUGEEE! turn off to see a game go P2W what Free to play game isn't at some level?
Don't like playing all these WoW CLONES, such as RIFT which, has a great cash shop system but its a clone after all.
Theres no real essence of the game, no true game feature.

If you couldnt compete it happens, how many players quit this game I mentioned (I went end-game, beat everything in the game & went back for more and still kicked butt!)

There are still players (like myself) who haven't found a replacement for REAL-L2, nor can we find any current online games we enjoy. So we know what we are looking for, and know these forums are a group of people looking/waiting for the same thing. That is why we converse here.
Nobody will keep you away from this game. If you want to be in denial and tell yourself whatever you need to in order to keep playing this game, then go ahead. Why do you need to blast on the forums to do so? However, I'm sure many people here would love to give the I told you so speech when you start complaining about bots, scripted pvp, p2w, and hacktards (2 months tops? I say 1 month if you play legit).
As for me, I'm here to watch people be full of themselves and have fun poking every now and then while I learn how to become a great developer so I can make my own game without mass-company-tards telling me how to make it.
well the situation here is not different. i played since 2006 and neither rmt or farmed adena and got stuck at end game with bad gear cause im not going to spend thousands on a game full of cheaters.
btw a single 7-day 200% xp rune costs 50$. the price of a whole new game.
you can buy a 99 toon and equip for it and be top in half a day here. at a cost.
or u can try playing legit and see how the game sucks and even was modified to help botting.
one area had the xp reduced 10x and its the only place where mats/adena drop in good a good amount. lol. do you belive in this ****?
Okay, im just going through my experience of this game I mentioned. Everyone cried, even hated the game at some point because it was P2W. I mean theres no way around it, it was P2W. Not Pay to safe time or something, you could grind 24/7 for 5 straight years you wouldnt get 10% enough to be considered a "good player".
A good player there was 777/666 at THAT TIME, I went 888/888, WITHOUT A DIME, i'm sure, as I had a lot of experience in this game that helped me a LOT but still, its not impossible. (After that I sinked in somewhere around 5k$ just to be with the cool kids and still wasnt fully cash shopped) :D
Maybe its not the same story with this game, I even hesitated with the game I mentioned because of the same reason, I only care for 2 things before I download a game, crowded servers and cash shop. So I did the same there, made a forum post. It was if I recall a 8 post page saying "STAY AWAY THIS GAME SUCKS BALLS ITS TO PAY TO WIN GO AWAY".
I still went in because, i'm not in it to be the best freaking player that ever lived, or to make it a career (like some moba players have).
All I care is for the game to be FUN to me.
I understand that you guys, after all these years of faithful loyalty to Lineage II ncsoft pays you this way. Making it impossible for players to be a somewhat competitive one, hell i'd make a letter insulting them too.
Companies that pay their gamers this way, by killing it to make it just lose respect, before when I heard NCSoft I knew the game was gonna be good, now not so much after hearing your stories and such.
However, i'll find my way through this game, trust me. You guys say 2 months TOPS before I come back and be in "I HATE NCSOFT MODE", trust me ill come back showing my progress with my very expected "sucks taht i had to sink this kind of money but im having fun"
IM NOT, I REPEAT, IM NOT, in anyway a FREE TO PLAY gamer. If I could keep the money to myself awesome more money for cannabis and food, but I do perfectly fine, I just wanted to know whats what with the game.

So far im enjoying it, even watched a couple of Let's play Lineage II videos on youtube and the guy was just saying "remember this game isnt p2w it's pay to be cool" Not sure what that meant. He was an experienced player from what I could see, but who knows.. maybe it was his way to get people into the game.

Hopefully, tho unlikely they will listen and change some stuff.

Not to mention that in Korea they have far more games being published. Blade and Soul and Lineage 1, for example.

NCsoft will always be a huge name on its home turf, you have to admit they have killed their allure with their poor management in other territories though with their stubborn refusal to implement staffs in each territory to address that markets needs and only applying changes wholesale from their home base.
They even go to the extant of giving their home player base things they won't implement here. I have long been under the impression that NC would prefer to cut its ties in NA altogether and will do so as soon as the profit margin dips enough here and has actually worked to hasten this process while pulling in the last possible dollars they can make here.
I think they would rather a company rose and bought a license from them for NA much like someone did in Europe and Russia and Taiwan before that. After the Taiwan failure they learned and actually allow Innova and RU to implement changes they want and not just do what they say, it would be better if it was like that here as well, but no NA company will ever trust the NC logo enough to try that now I think. :o
Hey all, cuberos here again just to let you know on my experience so far with this game!
So far, it's been totally.. good! :)
Nothing has made me spend on cash shop to get through stuff or something like that (like I thought) with the path of awakening thing you pretty much are settled for a while as a new player.
Joined a good PvE/PvP guild, seems competitive (I heard sometimes their fights on RC) and they're always fighting either a RB or a freaking guild!
Asked them how was the cash shop (as always) and they said "be prepared to grind but it's okay" they also explained how most of their players havent spend more than 100$ to boost up their chars and then grind.
I actually made sure this was Lineage II from NCSOFT NA side forums (HAD TO MAKE SURE) because it seems it's two different games.
I keep watching those "LETS PLAY L2" videos from end game characters and so far they all say the same (be prepared to grind yet its pay to get cool ****z)
I've spend mostly on EXP stuff to get myself fast to level 85 (at least) but with work and all I think I gave away moneyz :rolleyes: (your welcome ncsoft)
Oh, i'm just level 74 so far btw. On chronos, servers are pretty packed :o
can't really distinguish (theres a typo, just sound that word out) who's who in a way that cant tell whos a bot and whos a player.
Maybe you guys can clear that for me :o 'cuz sometimes I see the floor just filled with adena and this orc throwing "steal essence" non-stop. feels botty enough, also I poke them with any skills to see if theres any reaction and thats a no-no.
Thought sometimes these guys do answer me, so I cant really tell.. maybe im an adena grabbin *****.
