No favorites, can't be. Each of them has its own + and -
More important, I love time when servers were pay-to-play, we had much less idiots playing. That means I love all time before GoD, but not because of game itself :)
I had the most "fun" in beta-c1. Everything in game was new and unknown. There were tons of people coming in fresh and starting the game, as well as a growing population of people who had been there for a little bit already.
No one was max level, everyone was on a relatively even playing field. Bots were banned constantly and relegated to the dark and dusty corners of the maps... you had to go out of your way to find them, and they were pretty easy to mess with and get out of your area.
C2, on erica at least, is where things started to slide downhill. That's where bots started to become an issue and not really get banned, people started hitting max level with large sums of adena out of nowhere, continual farming of raids, etc.
The game itself however? I feel has generally improved in lots of ways. Not that there aren't things wrong with any given update, or that weren't done better previously in some cases. But overall, the base game? Still pretty good... and lots of stuff better than it ever was... It's just the community and support that has plunged into the sewer.
I love new stuff... I dont mind this ertheia patch, but it is because have never played in older patches. Everybody I see love so much c6 or interlude.. dont understand why. For me it looks old, been on private server interlude and didn't look good, very few skills and interface didnt catch my attention..
Could some one tell why all love older chonicles until Interlude? :)
IMHO...everything was great until the Chronicle where the old Producer/Community Manager Alira quit. Then the NCNA went to complete and utter dog doodoo
I loved the early chronicles when things were more simple and everything was new, like C2 or so (though I was still on PS back then). I think retail was in Gracia Part 1 when I started here in 2009, and it was still decently populated then, though from that point to the end of High Five the drop off of players was quite noticeable.
somewhere in Gracia when they updated the Buff pets, and gave combo buffs to other classes... being able to buff party and clan as an Overlord/Dominator and having those excellent max level buffs from pets. made for some great fun. farming in catacombs was great also... it only took a day or three to get the books i needed.
although i won't lie when i say that the 81/3 skills were pretty great also when they came out. chain heal for Dominators... back then we were something between a buffer, debuffer, and emergency healer... i had even hoped that when the game introduced awakening, Dominator would awaken as a healer instead of "enchanter"

1) Because Interlude was the last cronicle where we had balance in this game. Every race and every class had their own + and -.
2) C6 was an pvp era and pro player era. Only from than u can remeber such players as:
All this players played with their hands. True legends. And what we have now? Machines era, Skynet won.
3) In c6 no clan could live only on PvP or only on PVE, all top clans where PVP-PVE. I remember how hard was to lvl in TOI with all this wars. Players were participating in wars already from lvl 40.
That DLM vid takes me back. But that was a bit after some r/l stuff took me out of the game for awhile. We were in JC II together when they were allied with FOB, then playa split from JC to remake RR. I wasn't around for that whole drama.
I remember when he used to get so ****** off at rubster because his necro's para always seemed to land on him at the wrong time. hah
But even by that point there had been several overpowered classes and setups. Balance has never been one of l2's strongest points. But most PVP's lasted longer at least, short of the C2 MM dagger problem.
C3 (Didn't care for much c4 and above when everyone would carebear in town for hero's in organized pvp oly's). Most people were spending their days outside of town either farming mats and leveling while pvping for resources. Also, I miss the old abg parties.
C1 and C2 were good too. C2 had release of catacombs, and c1 well... new game.
My favorite chronicle are Ertheia of Lineage II:Goddess of Destruction
It's cool and a lot of new stuff for me since High Five ! :D
I want that it became even better ;P
Goddess of Destruction for me is the best, all clases merge in 8, with quest you can have R95-R99 stuff, drops was nice, adena was nice. Now is too hard for everyone that doesn't use bots :/
alsoPrelude, C1, C2 ( before Ancient Adena and blessed scrolls of scape ) was another kind of fun, but was epic.

The merging of all classes into 8 was what drove many people away among other things, just about every OL of note quit when GoD hit as one example.
GoD was the death of L2, I can't see how anyone that played previous chronicles can call it the best.
i can understand how people might be attracted to Goddess of Destruction.
it came out along with the free to play, so anyone who couldn't afford the month to month for 3-5 accounts had the new found ability to play and box entire parties.
but losing core class abilities and side functions in favor of flattening down into 8 basic classes... was dreadful.
aggression for sws/bd...
debuffs for domi, and necromancer...
buff steals and physical abilities for kamael.
heck... even Paladin lost their bird to archers for some reason.

GoD was one the absolute best updates for L2 from a playability standpoint. But one of the worst from a character standpoint.
What they did to the classes was a **** shame, and as you mentioned, I abandoned my Domi due to it (and the thing they have as Domi's now isn't much better either).
But from a general "player in the game" standpoint? Especially with the F2P model they launched? It was excellent.
Every player could earn enough to keep going, and would get very basic gear without too much effort as they went along. Smart players, or just lucky ones, could get better gear. And then those who put in the time/effort/money could get the top gear.
It had gameplay for everyone... because most would be running around in bound gear +3/4 and somewhere around 60x3 element + a little bit. Same with the weapon, most would be using bound apoc weapons all the way till 99, maybe a few would get seraph.
Then you had people that knew where to hunt and/or saved (or otherwise obtained) the adena to get much nicer gear. Only the top would have the ++++ OE'd stuff, 2 sa 95/99 weapons, etc.
They really had no need to destroy the system as it stood then. Crafting sucked because it wasn't needed. All they needed was incentive to craft like guaranteed standard, decent chance at double craft, chance at blessed, etc.
Instead they destroyed drops, destroyed spoils, destroyed quest rewards, and destroyed pretty much any chance for people to be self sufficient without dedicating a lot of time (or money) into doing so.
GoD + active GM's had almost no bots all over, and people were enjoying the game (minus class related issues)... They were quite happy and engaged without farming bots because those bots just weren't needed.
DVP was the single best, most mindful player I have ever known about. The way he had everything thought out was enjoyable to watch.
Nowadays you don't need to reason about anything anymore since gear with donations make you strong, not tactics, and illegal third-party software.
Imagine VALVe would allow wallhacks in Counter-Strike; or wallhacks or aimbots allowed in any kind of first person shooter - very close comparison. Same happening by principle in any MMO where the administration does nothing about it.
The game turned Star Wars after the introduction of certain chronicles. What do we have now, light sabres in the game? Are you serious?! The game is such a f* up.

+1
Gameplay wise GoD was the best update. Playing from C2 onwards GoD was the first time that finally:
Party matching worked well.
It made sense to hunt with a full party.
Players could grind and get gear at a decent pace and prices were reasonable.
People didn't need to bot, many many stopped and there were few farmers.
PvP wise it was C3/4 or whenever it was before they introduced the "Higher level crit/debuff nerf" and Element and maybe even before 3rd class change.
Classes weren't balanced, but most people could pvp at most levels 65+.
A stacked lvl 75 toon with +6 armor/+8 weapon wasn't impossible for 2x lvl 70s to take out.
There wasn't much in game apart from Epics and OP classes to make anyone impossible to kill.
Now it's just stupid with +8 set bonuses, Blessed attack bonuses, hard to get PvP/PvE weapons, AP, Level nerfs, ebayable buffs and overenchanting systems, non-constant events with overpowered items etc.... too much stacking, too much of a gap between a normal player and a stacked toon.
I don't understand why people celebrate a guy that practically destroyed the game because he went around and pked bots for 3 days out of 6 years instead of actually doing his job for 6 years.

you are talking about dvp and tactics in the same sentence. The only tactic dvp was good at was getting thrown in jail.
DVP ran around in OEd S grade killing level 50-60 people back in a time where people in S grade could 1-3 each other. I'm not saying he was a bad player, but I could train a monkey to kill people in b grade with a +7 drac bow.
The most balanced chronicles were the ones directly before GoD, which is strange since when they released God if you weren't a archer or nuker you were pretty ******.

I only know what I saw/heard, not what you spoke of. If it is so then there's a huge minus on points for him from me, coz I too think killing unequals is a demonstration of the lowest character, but on the other hand you rarely find someone who goes for his own equal, most are too pathetic for that and compensate their frustration by attacking those who cannot defend themselves (typical human nature) or lower themselves to cheating because something as simple as pressing a button seems the most difficult of things and they have to have the computer do it for them.
imo the ******ed changes started with the introduction of augmentation in Interlude.
C1-C5 was unbalanced but somehow fun (maybe because of the typical overhype and overrate of new mmorpg games). Everything was new and amazing.
C5/HB-God started to getting more balanced but the new features were not as fun, player exodus and scrpting begun.
God-Preset started getting even more balanced (classes that before couldnt do **** have now more usefulness) but the exodus and scripting got even worse, fun its almost extinguish for most players.
I loved the game up until the Kamael update...then things got kinda silly for me...wasn't much longer until I ended up quitting. I came back just after GoD, and although I still really like the game, it'll never be the same.

Yep, they were also the chronicles that as long as you had a brain, getting gear and catching up on the gear curve was really easy. The hard part of the curve those updates and the adena sinks were OEing gear and skills.
The level penalties came just before those updates and still remain with us today, a component they never should have added. I was never behind on the level curve, this is more looking at it as a whole, would rather have everyone able to get involved when they want to and not have them thinking they are useless until they reach X level.
idk the two/three chronicles right before GoD were by far the most balanced we had in a while. Nobody was getting 1/4 shot by anything unless you were missing buffs or average gear...even with the ******ed anakims tbh. Balanced cancel sticks, balanced kamaels, made warriors relevant, balanced archers, fear from nukers was kind of annoying but easy to work around if your party had a brain since they didn't hit for a ton of damage anymore. I guess the only shafted class was summoner...but thats l2 since c1
Ya I forgot to mention my favourite chronicle...... I cannot tell the name exactly but I think I'll agree with iMartelx here.
As long as I could get party outside of raids I was glad coz that was most fun. I get terribly bored playing alone which is all I get nowadays because the level/equipment gap. The only time people will play with you is when you reach 85 or are already higher level and have your own stuff. If you don't meet these criteria they won't even talk to you. They're just scavengers, whatever suits their needs they take, the rest they discard.
They had to make classes playable so they are not completely obsolete and don't have to exclude them officially.
There's no real party spirit anymore, no crafting no nothing. I was used to clans working together like ants, farming together, leveling together, spoiling and crafting for each other, at any level. That was the true spirit of Lineage.
Lineage, if you think of it, has become a very boring game. You hit 85, you log in every day to do the same dailies and if you're bored, which is likely to happen, you log out. Something lingering is keeping you to turn on the game even though you know it'll become boring after a few minutes. The feeling is fading, eventually you'll say your good byes and move on.
I do that. I'm trying to think of a reason to play still. Maybe coz of old friends who said they'd try official now...
I don't belong to the group with the mentality to PK in a game whose PVP system is messed up in this regard. Getting rid of karma is difficult.
Another thing is the gear which I only have basic one and I know it makes a whole lot of a difference when someone who spent hundreds of dollars on the game faces you.
As I mentioned I mostly play solo which is not because of me being unwilling to cooperate, but because I haven't found like minded people.
Seeing as you didn't get my initial message I'm not even gonna bother explaining past this point.

An easier way to put this, 85 is basically level one in this game now. You won't find groups getting to 85 really, unless you make one yourself and spend hours looking for the randoms it takes to do what you have in mind, and really, most of the "hard" areas pre 85 you still don't need a group to do them with the new buffs as they are OPed for those areas, so you're really doing it as a lark, to have fun.
You can get into a clan pre 85, many will welcome you just for the points, and some will keep you on post 85 if you meshed well with them in vent, clan chat. But yes, you are correct, that greater sense of community went out the door after GoD, it was already being eroded with the level penalty that proceeded GoD many updates before that.
I also agreed with Martel, just I hated that one thing from the time they put it into play, I can quote myself saying it was a terribly bad idea and would erode community bonds back before they even put it in years ago, and I was ahead of the level curve, it wasn't myself I was thinking of when I said it.

Pk is a feature since the making of the game, you chose to ignore that feature.
Buying stuff for hundreds or thousands of dollars occurs in every single mmo, f2p, p2p,p2w or not. Why does it bother you now if it existed before when a guy with ++ gear could still 1-2shot from range?
I play solo and i can play, why can't you? Cause others aren't like you?, well that isn't the game problem by itself, you should blame the fact people dont play a 10 year old broken game to have fun, but to win.
I dont rly need to understand "your message" , you are whining of things you dont choose to do and excuse urself as saying that "you cant do", while in reality, you can.
