Yes it is a support class.
It depends what you like. Imo the one who fulfill best the role is Sigel Shillien templar well geared (and with CON, i prefer human stats with ST job; Chaos ess for that).
Others go the damage dealer tank but for that, now, you need to expend few hundread bucks and maybe more to achieve a decent Gear for that (50 billions or more adena; longing, over enchanted weapon (at least +10), epic jewels, +8 or +9 seraph (extra damage from skills), or bloody/dark weapon....)
Things to know about sigel Hell Knight???? Mostly persons said me that the tanks are a support class -.-
have minimum of 60 attribute defense in each armor part , 150 attribute in your sword with at least 1 sa
hit 99 first, then do the 3x120 attribute defense/300 attribute attack , build it on con (lvl3 dyes, enchanced istinas bracelet, con pendant, hp certificates from dualclass, oly neck/earring for resists)
for pve and small scale pvp this is more than enough, if you want more then you should quit, be lucky, or just simple buy thousand of ncoins and sell different items to players

Weapon atribute and armor atribute a must. Before 95 60+ armor os enough. + 300 weapon doble SA a must ( Apo then upgrades ti specter. Also +4) first + 300 holy.
That much con is not worth it unleass you are dark elf. Lvl 1 legendary will be enough x 3. Human stats with shillen templar class
Dual class Go for +20% chance attack skill and HP. Also get CoC jewels ( stun, para, knock down, etc) and frintezza . soul ideal. Normal is fine. Have a normal jewel in mass pvp raid, tezaa against solo melee. In 99 take boost for chance stun para. As sk yout para will land almost always anda stun also. You will resistir stun a lot (i resit evento the raid stun not always but a lot). Another build
