We'd like to thank everyone that submitted an entry. We'll be posting all entries later today so everyone can be recognized for their hard work and wonderful artwork.
Winners will receive their rewards no later than tomorrow.
WOW are they kidding? Those are the winners? Did GMs choose those or what? Seems like someone's buddy had a few wins over here. My art is better than some of those and I'm not just saying this coz I can't take losing. I know a thing or two about drawing. The only thing I can think of to explain why they have chosen these entries is ofc some kind of connection with judges. No hard feelings. Yet again NC disappoints, but it's all my fault I thought they can make something legit and lost time for those corrupted contests.
FIRST OF those are copied mangas or animes or w/e, and second drawing with pencil with B&W isn't that big kind of skill. Now drawing with colors on the other hand is requiring a lot more. So why are most drawings from the winners B W? I see a few anatomical mistakes, really who judged this contest a 7 yr old?
There were no color entries? I doubt coz mine is and has a lot of color. Really this is a big big joke.
This and I spent a sh*tload of time and efforts on it. This is digital medium discrimination. At least it was fun to work on a theme like this. But I'll surely never again lose time and efforts for Nc contests.
Your art is very fugly and low skill also has nothing with Ertheia... looks very similar to something i already saw on internet, from where did you copy pasted it?
So they're telling me some of the winners have better compositions, skill, overall execution of color and figure/items/effects surface texture recreation than my submission?:confused::confused: This is very offensive to me as a person who draws and spent so much time on this. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh305/ta3ito/ErtheiaContestNovsignfb.png

Your artwork should be on 1st or 2nd place both are very impressive.
I don't know what drugs GM's take, but they need immediately change the dealer !!!

Told ya... not even an stem as a symbolic reward for those who tried and put effort. For the adena art competition they gave away a halloween hat... did you know that adena art can be made with a script ? From the third party programs almost ALL the ppl is using in the server ?
Thank you for 4th place in contest ^^
And of course congratulations to all other artists for their wins and for those who submitted entry. I saw them all on FB page and almost every art was a hard work and required a time :)
I had almost 3 years break from drawing, so wasn't sure about mine entry but I tried, spent many hours on it and the original file has more than 50 layers. I was experimenting much on this but was happy how it turned out.
I compared my Ertheia (Yaseii (Yaseii means wilderness from japan) with my beloved black-clawed fists to a quick black panther which scratches enemies with her claws. Too bad that black raccoon ears looks white on that model, but it's not bad ^^
And for sure Hopey should take a place in wins too cause it has many many details and it's well drawn, and all of us artists known that L2 armors has a LOT of details so they are really hard to draw ;) It's really good piece of art.

Now since you suspect some of us might win this in an unfair way, i have to say something in my defense.
first of, making art is because you love art, not to win in a competition. at least i as an artist think like this when i make art.
secondly, it's rude to accuse others of cheating simply because they beat you. we worked just as hard as you. someone here already has said, judging can be a very subjective thing. what makes your judgement better than others just because you know some drawing? you aren't the only one. and you need to respect other's work, as an artist.
thirdly, if you read the contest rules carefully, (link:http://www.lineage2.com/media/content-images/game/Lineage-II-Artwork-Contest-Official-Contest-Rules.pdf), it says they "rank the Artworks based upon the following criteria: (i) passion (25%); (ii) creativity (25%); and (iii) originality (50%)." now you see why you didnt make into top 5? all you talk about is skills because you know about drawing. skills are important but not the most important at least not in this contest, they value CREATIVITY for 25% and none for SKILLS. and from you piece, i see less of that than those from the top fives; it looks beautiful but too much like a screenshot; you've proved that you can draw exactly what a screenshot looks like and there's nothing else to it. a lot of you might think the #5 place doesnt deserve because even ppl without the drawing skills can do that. but the in the art world, copycats are secondary despite their skills because skills can be trained to gain, originality/creativity cannot. and the latter should be the core of art crafting. i'm sure the #5 cracked a lot of ppl up. i have friend pm me saying even they without drawing training can do that. but the thing is, they didnt do it in the first place; that winner did. sometimes even a 7 year old might just be more creative than you.
last but not least, dont let the contest results cloud you from what you love to do. not winning doesnt mean your work is bad or worse.
As for my entry, which is the 5th place winner, mind you, I got my tablet just few weeks ago and I'm still learning how to use it. But like everyone else I put effort in my work.

As the winner of the second place, i can say goodknight couldn't describe it in a more perfect way. You can't just emo rage and disqualify the other people's art. It was time and effort for all of us i think.

I agree somewhat with you, that the TOP 3 were pencil drawings. I do agree that GoodKnight's should have placed because he put a lot of effort into it, but I can't help thinking he put ertheia ears on some poster of a pretty lady standing with a unicorn. I don't think people can say that "screenshot-like" is not creative because neither is anime, and neither is GoodKnight's, it's suspiciously familiar, and barely "Ertheia-themed".
But the really hurtful part is not selecting any real life color ones, only digitally colored ones. I believe 1st and 4th deserve to be there, maybe even 5th, but 2nd and 3rd are not creative, original, or passionate because pencil drawings are easy to do, and it's an insult that the judges did not considerate it "creative, original, and passionate" to work in color, which is extremely harder than simple black to white, 1 to 10 value scale of some pretty little girls with Ertheia ears and barely any background filled in.
Now since you suspect some of us might win this in an unfair way, i have to say something in my defense.

I participated for the love of drawing and the game, 2 favorite things of mine.
But the results I find very offensive for my love of those 2 things.
I doubt any of you spent the amount of time I did, by the looks of the amount of detail, background and/or effects missing etc
So don't tell me I have no right to be highly disappointed about how my work got totally neglected, it is obviously good enough to be among winners.
DO you think I did not have the passion?! Let me tell you something you need to have really A LOT OF PASSION to make a L2 armor and weapon with full detail. I wanted to do that, because the reason I love this game so much is the gear designs and the race designs ofc, they are amazing! I knew it will be a pain in the *** and a sh*tload of time to achieve all those details, but for the love of the game I did it. You know I could easily do an Ertheia manga, clown or batman like for the fun, but that was not my idea. Also if I wanted to make it exactly as in game I would have, but that was not my idea either. This is the style I've chosen and yea it looks like in game, maybe because of my efforts to represent exactly the details on the gear, which I already explained why. At least I didn't skip bothering with making a background, and I made the efforts to not cut my main figure in the drawing so it's easier not to draw a whole figure etc
Last but not least working with colors is also considered as "creativity". B&W can be so boring sometimes /not talking about winning works/.
You goodknight know my work had to win, too.
Number 5 deserves the win imo. You told me not to judge the other works and you just did that to #5? What is this?! Why you don't respect the time he spent on it, like you told me to. How hypocritically of you. I thought judging was subjective... >.>
Number 3 is just some manga looking char with ears and something like l2 gear, sorry. I will not go on I know all spent time on this some more, some less I respect that. Problem is my work deserves a win and I do not blame the winners.
(Hopey I think you are going a little overboard. It is one thing to question the criteria by which the winners were selected, but it is another to say you should have won/placed. It is a major disappointment to me too that the diversity of media was not represented in the winners, and that 2nd and 3rd are practically the same thing. But that doesn't mean yours should have placed. Your figure and ground are mismatched in style and detail. The figure is not anchored to the ground; the shadow by the feet should be much darker; it looks awkwardly superimposed. Mine has some of that too; it is a very difficult thing to master; I know.
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the other entries stole/borrowed their compositions. Designing a strong composition is really hard. Even mine could have been better, but I stuck to making it Ertheia-themed (not just the darn ears) and drew only from Lineage content. Mine could have been better, but I chose to venture into oil painting and didn't just make a "crowd pleaser". Graphite isn't a challenge so it doesn't interest me. But I guess if we wanted to win, we should have stuck with what does win -- unicorns and seductive school girls.)
the problem with these types of event is a lack of clear defined categories.
therefore everything has been clumped together.
this is how we end up with a weird fifth winner... when there are seemingly more clear winners. this happened with the screen shot contest also.
it's not easy to pick a winner i'm sure.
having 3 well illustrated monochromatic winners really put a hurt on the colored entries. the very well drawn Hopey entry was overlooked or compared because the last 2 couldn't be well drawn, they needed digital to be "fair"
of course this is merely my own speculation as i am not part of the voting process, but i understand how difficult it must be.
congrats to the winners. better than the stupid screenshot contest. hope you win something good.
i don't know if i would say better...
they faced the same difficulties here.
same with previous submit an entry competitions...
i actually really liked the screenshot contest, it was something anyone could do, we were all paired with the same capability unless you count higher graphic computers, but it didn't seem important.
anyway....
Congratz to the winners.
sorry for those who could have won... had there been more specific categorization.

You probably won't believe me, but earlier I thought to write something very similar with what you posted - I had to make a Mona Lisa with ears to get noticed :D
Of course I know I have flaws everybody does, but still mine are a lot less than some of the winners and my work is more complicated and creative etc etc you know, you saw them. It can always be better, but at some point we just get overwhelmed and exhausted. I like your painting a lot more than some of the winning ones. I agree with you that manga chars with ears isn't that creative and pencil is no challenge...

"pencil is no challenge" lol
i give up arguing. i think you lose more than just the competition, tbh. personally i dont think u know what it really means to be an artist.
a person dont know how to respect others dont deserve to be respected.
losing is rough.
blood pressure will settle after a week or so.
some times it takes losing to notice the flaws...
when in the process toward a goal of completion you feel you've nailed it.

I agree, I really liked her art work at first, but she needs to get her ego checked before entering a next contest

IDK what the hell is your problem that you keep on bothering with me? Did you anywhere see me mention your work? Why do you think I don't appreciate it? You're arguing about what exactly? With what did I offend you specifically? I really don't understand what's your business with me...
how exactly do you respect my work? By calling it a screenshot like and missing creativity etc? You seem to not understand what exactly the meaning of creativity holds don't you? Can you please be a real "artist" and leave me alone and respect my work? Because I didn't disrespect yours. If you feel I did it's not my fault that you took it that way, maybe you felt hurt because you alone think some of the things I said about winners is true about your work, too. But I never said I was talking about yours and I am not.
I am not the only one who saw the obvious - some entries that were not chosen among the winners deserved to win more.
Hopey, by insulting other people works (although it's true that most of them are copied, inspired by or total ripoffs) by defining them as effortless creations, you sound deeply butthurt.
Drawing with a pencil is still a skill and a time-consuming task, and the 1st place work doesn't look like it was done in 10 minutes either.
What's wrong with your work? The character is flat, while the background has far more contrast, and it looks like the girl was glued to a poster; the banners are going in random directions; the overall composition looks too busy, also because of the weird swirls around the character.
Also, copy-pasting details such as the ones on the boots could be attributed to a lack of effort, or seeking a shortcut to make your job easier. Pencil drawers don't have such luxuries, you know
Pencil is not a challenge the way color media is, that's for sure. Grayscale drawings have only value. Color drawings have hue, value, and saturation. It's comparing x to x cubed; three variables is more challenging to control. Additionally real life color drawings are limited by pigments that actually exist, whereas digital drawings use virtual colors.

Ok, I repeat I did not say anything about this #1, so dunno what you're talking about there.
I also never said "effortless creations", I'm just sure most didn't took that much time by their looks. What butthurt? :D
Thanks for the critique, I know I can see most of my flaws. But I never said mine was perfect, I just stated the obvious, which is that it is no worse than those winning ones, and in fact even better than some. I already explained why I made the gear exactly as it is. And believe me it is not less effort, I'd like you to try to make one of those L2 armors, when you do then please do tell me if it's a lack of effort or less time consuming. Ofc it could be easier to just create some a lot less detailed armor and go with it, but that is what I would call an easier job. I'm starting to think that even if a really pro illustrator entered and ended up in my position you people would still jump on him and point out some flaws to prove the others were super awesome drawings :D
Those ''weird swirls'' are skill effects, maybe you missed out to play Eviscerator. Check them out.
Now why would you jump on me like that? Am I wrong?
Ok, now since I am among the ones who did not win and you told me what's wrong with my piece of art, can you please be fair and do the same for lets say winner #2, #3 and #4.
Hopey, i suggest you stop complaining.
Come on, you didnt win, get over it.
Even if infact yours had better skill or whatever, they have already decided.
And really, this attitude "I should have won, everyone knows it" is a bit too much..

Your art is astonishingly beautiful in detail works, had to be huge work to render this, but as an artist myself, I can give you some constructive criticism, it lacks personality and your own personal stamp, it is a perfect rendering, but it hasn't got your personality, that is probably why you dint get picked, u need to put more soul into it. This feels a bit cold and rigid.
better or worse is subjective, and I bet you eleventy billion dollars there's thousands upon thousands of starving artists out there that think their work is eons better than Jeff Koon's. Yet they are starving and Jeff Koons gets a few mil per piece. That's how life works, get used to it, nobody has to like what you think they should like, and this wasn't an art contest to be judged by art history majors. It's a freaking game contest.
