I haven't started the game yet, but I read a lot and decided to go Dark Elf Spectral Master and follow to Wynn Summoner.
All other possible choices (weapons, armors, server, etc) are open to discussion. I have yet to create a char, but I played many others mmorpgs. I can play everyday. Anyone up for tutoring?
key points of interest.
as a spectral master, you will level mostly using death spike.
when you obtain awakening at 85 you will probably mostly use soulless.
soulless at 85 ae ranged archer type attackers which are physical.
if you are super cheap, you can obtain a crossbow which is much cheaper than retributer. this will help your summon damage.
as a summoner you get skills called marks.
mark of weakness, mark of trick, mark of void and mark of plague.
mark of weakness is important because it reduces p.def on enemy.
mark of void is important because it actually leaches hp/mp for you and your summons.
mark of trick has a chance that enemy skill/spell will be canceled.
mark of plague decreases incoming heals...
all 4 of the above marks will cause damage over time.
mark of Fire, and Mark retriever are both direct damage skills.
each summoner type gets a "Rage" skill.
using the "Rage" skill will activate a type of buff which does not show up in standard buff window, but "special abnormal status"
the rage effect is short lived, but can stack up to level 5 for a high degree of enhancement of your summons. one trick is to use a force macro and use it on your own summons to keep it at level 5 i personally also use mark of Void on my other summon to keep my mp up while i use rage and mark of weakness in standard mob combat.
(Edit) Force macro holds = using the control key without having to hold the control key. in macro creation /useskillforce skill name.
i just read that again as uses kill force. you can also use force with marks of weak, trick, void and plag on non pvp flagged characters.
just avoid using mark of fire and mark of retriever on unflagged as you can, and occasionally will go red(chaotic)
Important: after 3 pks you can drop equipment on death.
this is one place where having a retributer would be beneficial for faster casting and higher m.attack... better land rates on marks.
but as it stands, crossbow(Shooter) is a lot cheaper.
Good luck friend, see you out there.
good luck finding a nice friendly helpful tutor.
On your way up to awakening, wich happens in 85 you can level using robe armor and help your summon to kill with your mage skills, there are some good guides in internet about the quests you should do...
Once you become a Wynn Summoner use light armor and take advantage of the passive skills you get, use a 2. Handed magic blunt they are called retributers.
When you hit lv85, you will have free R-Grade items if you have a mentor. PLEASE select Requiem Retributer (2-H staff) as weapon. Summoner is a mystic class, so you need magic damage boost and the special ability Acumen, which increases your casting speed. Besides, by equiping a retributer you will have a 105% P.atk boost, so your servitors will hit hard. As a high lvl summoner, I can say for sure: NO crossbow or bow, PLEASE!
For armor, I played until 95 with light armor, then changed to robe, and I must say robes are amazing for summoner. Your call on this.
For servitors, you may have Wynn Soulless (Ranged:AoE), Wynn Nightshade (Tank:Provoke/Stun) and Wynn Spectral Lord (Warrior). You will need to summon them according to the situation you are facing (tanking a boss, killing many monsters at the same time, dealing extreme damage, and so on).
^ I agree with the @Heatnix's speech, although I'm in serious doubts about how good of a magic damage dealer a wynn summoner can effectively be before it hits 97, and for obvious reaons, 99.
Maybe some wynn summoners are just addicted to throw arrows instead of casting marks, who knows.
I lol when I see bowsummoners actually shooting arrows :D
If you are gonna use a bow, atleast transform or something...
Funny u said that as i read this tonight, cuz thats exactly what one wynn was doing tonight at a rb, at first i lol'd then said hey use ur marks instead of arrows, all he said was "use what?" Lol
I agree, i have a bow for my wynn but its only used for when i class change to my yul, pve n pvp i use 2h blunt. Which is as it should be, how its always been n always will be lol

Looks like summoner will need high M.Atk for debuffs during next update, but I'm not sure.
Wynns is a confusing class caught between melee cuz of servitors n nuking general stats, im sure u know that, my guess is at higher lvls it mainly revolves around m atk, im only lvl 88 so i dont know much yet, so i keep an eye on the forums
Quick question, sorry if I'm jacking, but I equipped a bow on my Wynn dual, because everyone keeps telling me that the higher patk, transfers to the summons to make them more effective. Then I was additionally told to add Focus SA, because that also transfers to them. So is that not a good plan for pve at lvl 91-99? I see some are saying retri always...but does that weaken the summons at all? Also, say a retri is the way to go, what SA? ty (and no, I've never actually shot the bow as a summoner lol)
but everybody says that you are better off with m.attack because you will need to mark things... also having casting speed from Acumen will be good.
So honest opinion, will the bow with focus suffice for pve when the summoners do most of the 1 by 1 killing?
And as for the aoe from the summons...do they benefit from the patk of the bow for their attacks? I'm just curious how the low patk of a mage wep will affect the summons' attacks. I realize for my own magic skills the mage wep will help me...I'm just curious what it'll do to the summons since they do most of the work.
Update: I went out and bought a retri with acumen and empower. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but my summons got a very noticeable increase in patk, and matk. P. Crit went down a tad, because the bow had focus on it, but overall they do much better dmg now. And as an added benefit, my skills land better, more powerfully, and faster. So to any doubters out there, go with a 2-h mage blunt! lol ... wish I knew sooner. TY all. GL OP
If you wouldnt mind, can you check just how much crit rate went down on your pets with the change? If you still have the bow that is.
I cant duplicate this test myself, since I have never owned a bow. But seeing as how Ultimate Servitor Share only adds a percentage of your own crit rate, which start off as mage physical crit rate, I cant see how it would be enough to make anyone wanna use a bow.
Where is Trensharo when you need him, I bet he still runs around with that Apo bow of his :D

I do still have it, and can provide accurate #'s later when I get home from work. But going from memory (and I could be a little off), I think it was in the vicinity of 260 with the bow, down to 185 with the staff. Like I said, I could be a little off, but it was close to that. It was in P. Crit...I'm not sure what that means for skills crits, but maybe that effects the normal attack crits?
PS, I had an augment on the bow of +21 crit, and on the staff I got about +12
Haste is available on crossbows.
if you notice my earlier posts... i mention that if you're cheap, crossbow is a suitable weapon for the damage, but it was refuted for a fake retributer from mentor guide. i was just saying that as a physical bonus, it does increase summon attack speed. however normally a crossbow has a "Normal" attack speed which is the same as a retributor.
the question was about an SA option.
he didn't ask about it specifically on bow although it was implied.
i answered the question and added that another physical SA which also affects the summon through means of Servitor share...
as far as i know other SAs do not... health, health drain, damage up...
(not sure about damage up, does that add direct to P.attack)
i could be wrong though.
also if you are lucky enough to get high Crit on an augment, that i believe also transfers... but augmenting doesn't like to give high crit anymore... i remember having +41 crit at one time, now best i get is 16.
the only things that transfers are part of the ultimate servitor share. if your SA or augment affect any of the stats that transfers, then you get a portion of that effect.
