I have about 20 characters across all of the servers and on three accounts who have hero coins, but won't reach Awaken status any time soon. The hero coins will expire this year.
It seems to me the right thing to do would have been to allow all characters of any level to redeem their hero coins for Pandora boxes. After all, if a level 1 character can buy an item in store and receive hero coins, then he/she should be able to cash in said hero coins when items like Pandora -- which are designed for that expressed purpose -- arise. WTH, NcSoft, WTH???
i'm sorry, but why would you need hero coins for an under awakened character? i know there must be a reason, but most things you might have had a use for, could have been done on an awakened character and traded.

In the OP's defense, the Hero Coin Program is a little wacked. You gift an NCCoin item, the giftee gets the coin. You buy a rune on a character (most of the runes are for pre-awakened characters), that character gets the coin.
As for you, OP, get to grinding. You have 50 days to get your alts awakened and cash in your meager sum of coins. And next time, don't fall for NCSoft's trap and look at the grand scheme of things.
