I played L2 in NA beta and for a few years upon release.
I have returned after 12 years to let the addiction begin again.
I have some questions please.
1. Servers. My old server is gone, I saw news about a mega merge that happened, did all old servers merge into Chronos?
2. Class: My old class was silver ranger (elf), they were fastest and combined with party buffs excellent class, has this changed?
3. Solo friendly? When I played you could only solo through about level 40 (dragon valley?) then everyone HAD to group up, is this still the same? or has L2 become solo friendly.
4. Dependence on buffs: Previously higher levels required group buffs to solo at all, this still the same?
5. Grind..... Used to take 1yr of steady play to hit old cap (70?) easier to level?
Your toon is probably long gone. If you haven't logged into game in a number of years they cleaned the servers.
Naia is the euro server, Chronos is what NA usually play. The other servers were added within the last 2 years. Magmeld is a bot server, Bartz was mostly added as a nostalgic thing.
99 is the level you want. Start over, it's faster to hit 85 and you'll have gear to get you there because it's free till R grade.
You basically solo to 85 now doing daily quests, instances. If you get a mentor you'll have buffs and a xp boost. Get a clan of coarse they can help you.
Most of the areas you remember have been recycled,redesigned and the mobs different or the level range to hunt there is now high. You can't do much soloing after 85. There is some,but not as much as you would have thought there to be.
There are a lot of cheaters since it's free to play, there in a store in-game that you can buy items with real money. Things that will help you level faster and so on.
Any events that occur in game are usually tied to the in-game store, anything that's a gamble is as you know low chances at anything valuable. adena drops in most areas have been nerfed to discourage bots,but there's plenty of them anyways.
It's still a very fun game to play with a clan or friends. It's changed a lot since dropping the monthly fee to play. There is no in-game GM service anymore,so you can't petition. If you have a problem you have submit a ticket to support through your NC account on the website so keep that in mind. A lot of people who come back will return to the forums shortly after to rant about bots,unfair pvp, no adena or whatever. There are ways to deal with these issues,but like I said it takes tolerance and some real cash.
ETA: World of warcraft now boosts you to lvl 90, I don't see why L2 hasn't done this yet. They do plan to remove the level cap in the future.
We have 5 servers from this Chronos and Naia the most populated ones. Naia is the server where what is used to call as main EU server. But population is mixed on every servers.
To reach the top level without XP boosts items what is 99 needs in solo in average 4-6 months if you play really actively if you play slowly can do it in a year I think.
It is possible to solo and often it is better than do party. If you mainly wish to play in solo, maybe better if you start on Shilen or Magmeld or Bartz. As they are lower populated, you have more place to solo mainly this is important if you XP with AOE.
Is it still excellent choice to run 2-3 accounts at once, so you have a healer/buffer following you around and leveling up with you?
Or is that no longer really necessary?
You can get full buffs from npc until lvl 91.
If you make a boxed buffer (Iss Enchanter) you will never regret about that later. You don't need a healer to follow you around, because having an enchanter is more than enough.

1) Bartz, Devianne, Sayha, Aria, and Phoenix merged to Chronos. Teon, Franz, and Luna merged to Naia. Chronos is most populated now, Naia second most populated. Chronos NA times, Naia EU times.
2) Elve race keep their positions in what according attack speed, cast speed. But this dont play any role more cause now after 85 there are no big difference what race u play. If we speak about OP than new race Ertheia is OP now, after dagger class of all races. If you have time and money than u can spend this on mage class, a mage with top lvl and enchanted mage wep (horribly nerfed enchant rates) can own everyone in this game. But this is only if u a mage fan. If u look for much easier ways to OP than as i told Ertheia race classes or dagger classes. If we speak about what class is needed in this game i tell u we need healers, iss enchanters (buffers), tanks.
3) Solo is only till 85 after 85 only with PT. U can get to 85 in few days.
a) Find mentor, other player that has 85 lvl or higher, when he is online u get buffs and exp boost. When u lvl 85 with mentor u get mentee diploma for this u get weapon armor R grade. Find academy for more exp boost, get circle in Gludio. If u want to spend money than get Prestige rune pack + Destiny rune pack. There are some hardcore players who got 99 in 5 days after new race enabled with that runes.
b) Follow the quest line
c) Do raids for example from 62 till 76 Hellman raid, every 4 hours every 00 00 server time. Rune territory Cursed Village.
d) Sell all enchantment scrolls u get for quests. So u will get adena for soulshots or spiritshots.
4) U can get buffs by Adventure Helper till lvl 91 after all buffs only from iss enchanter and this is a big problem. Everyone has a boxed ISS but nobody play ISS as main so on high lvls ISS Enchanter is like gold for every clan.
5) Think i answered this on number 3. Can only add that crafters suck now so dont rely on that u will get rich from crafting and spoiling.
