Is l2 still worth starting?

Whats the raiding and pvp like? I played it for abit in 2006 ish but never had much time for MMOS back than.
Is this game going to be around in 3-4 years? I like playing a game knowing its stable so it doesnt just shut down the second i get somewhere in game, thats one of the main reasons i played Wow is because of its stable playerbase.

this game will never die

Start on chronos or Naia for lots players and pvp. enjoy
Skynet can also talk?
this game will provide hours of entertainment if you do decide to play.
there will also be many frustrations. and you will face many challenges along the way. most epic raids are reserved for large alliances on server of level 95 and above. although you can participate in a baby anthars at 90 which is fun because it feels like an epic raid.

Lineage II is nothing like you knew back in 2006, it's almost completely new and nerfed like crazy.

Pretty much any PvP is auto scripted so unless you cheat yourself you have no chance of winning in any PvP. Also the bots pretty much control the servers so good luck finding any decent open hunting ground. Speaking of hunting, the adena drops have been nerfed so bad that you will never be able to afford anything; you will not even be able to keep shots in stock.

Game does not actually start until level 90+ but you can get to level 85 in a few days as long as you are willing to open your wallet.

Unless you are willing to spend a lot of time and loads of money on Drop and XP runes in the Store I would look elsewhere for enjoyment.
^ If by "any pvp is scripted" you mean a couple of 99/99 players with gear that would win anything even if they didn't use scripts and that any new player starting wont see in a long time, or never, then yes, you're right.

Game has been full bots years before it went free to play. Catacombs/Necropolis full of bot trains, any good hunting ground/spoiling area full of bots.

Now you can level up and make more money now than you ever could by doing Raids. lv. 88 RBs and up, drop a ton of good stuff almost every time and give excellent exp. + You can of course have a toon for zaken/freya/tezza.

In conclusion, I understand the frustration, but your points are completely overblown within the context.

When GoD launched, it took months to get to lvl 90, for regular players. There were no raids, there wasn't even Kartia instance.
I reset my dual recently and I went form 85-90 in less than 3 weeks, by doing of raids, daily instances and just a bit of grinding. I got a couple of hundred millions from drops. And I wasn't even that lucky, most drops, most of the time, went to other people.

The key is, as it always was, don't expect to get anywhere or achieve anything quickly. Learn the game, and enjoy the journey. Its lineage 2.

To your specific questions.

Raiding is cool and you might end up pvping for a boss. Its hard as hell, if you don't have a really good party and/or crazy gear. But if your party knows what its doing and/or you get another party in a command channel, raids around your level are doable. They give solid drops and exp.
The instanced "epic" raids are extremely hard and require a lot of people. Usually high level good geared players pvp for them and kill them. That's Antharas, Valakas, Lindvior. There's other epic raids like Queen Ant ( lvl 40 ), Orfen and Zaken Nightmare ( lvl 60 ) Baium ( lvl 78 ), Lilith, Freya Extreme, Anakim, Tiat, Ekimus, Epic Istina, Epic octavis, Epic Tauti, Earth Wyrm...
Some of them can be done by any "ok" geared group of players that know what they're doing, at the right level and with a right amount of people. Some, on the other hand, need a ton of people and/or really good gear.

PvP is open as it always was. You can pvp with anyone outside of town. Usually people pvp for raids, when they have a clan war, at fortress sieges, castle sieges, Olympiad ( ranked 1v1 ), CoC ( ranked free for all ).

How much life the game has left in it.. I'm not sure. I enjoy it, and I hope stays online for a long time. It's not a big budget game these days, so it doesn't need a lot to keep it running. Lineage 2 is also extremely hard and time consuming, when compared to other mmos. So, its not at all surprising that it doesn't have millions of players.

I'd suggest you start on Chronos server. It has the highest population and highest english speaking population. So it should be the least frustrating place to be.
You all being Negative zzzzzzzzzzzz

What do you mean "all" ? My first post was against what "ErtheiaGirl" was saying, so quite the opposite of negative.
And the 2nd was answering "Silvercrank's" questions about the game.
Like I said don't bother unless you want hours of fustration and servers loaded with bots and auto PvP scripts. If yuou want to do the good raid gets in a power clan or else you will just be greifed away from bosses since they are always camped.

No matter what the white knights say this game has gone downhill since GoD and F2P. Game has more bots now that it ever did when it was pay to play, and all Olympiad matches are done with auto scripts, I don't care what anybody says about PvP being good.

Make a character and see for yourself but get your credit card ready.

What a bunch of gibberish. I've played this game for years and the only people i've ran into that might have used scripts are a couple of insanely geared players that would kill me anyway.
Saying that "servers are loaded with pvp scripts" and "all Olympiad matches are done with auto scripts" is one of the most moronic things i've heard. And a complete lie.
And those few that might be cheating, are completely irrelevant to someone just starting the game. Or to anyone really..
You can just ignore them and play with/against people/clans of your own level. Sure it sucks when you run into someone with +8 dark set, dark wep., blessed epics, lvl 5 jewels and what not ( with or without scrips ), in Oly or CoC, but it's certainly not gonna stop me from enjoying the game. Also its a 10 year old game. You have to expect people to have way better gear and knowledge than someone who just started, or started 2 years ago. Not every one of them is scripting nor has RMT'ed his gear.
Servers have been loaded with bots since well before GoD. Which is bad. And i hope they find a way to ban them more efficiently. But why are you here, posting about it, 7-8 years too late..
no

not you and yeah what u say is true.
All the ppl who asks this tend to leave game easily. if you are into the game you will know when you play it.

Is it that hard to download for 2 hours and check urself?
Yes, it is worth, the game has been here for 10 years and I don't see why not could be for another ten.

The best you can do is give it a try and see for yourself.

Welcome and good luck.
I started playing in 2005 and left a few years ago. I'd say go ahead and start playing if you just want to have a little fun. For PvP and "pro"/serious **** you better be a very social person because you need great connects (clan parties etc) that will help you with money and gear. It is time consuming and frustrating. That's why I've been a "noob" since 2005. If you're like me and just want to enjoy a game without the stress, go ahead and start.

The game will be here for the next couple of years, that's for sure.

Is it worth starting...I think yes, but not here.
I've been playing L2 since 2007 and NCwest servers are the only which allow scripts and bots. Well, according to EULA they are forbidden but noone does anything to stop them. They try to stop the RMT (real money traders) by nerfing the adena drop, which results in low lvl ppl not being able to buy even shots.
If you ask if this game will be here for the next few years you want to play this much time. What will happen:
- In a week or so (maybe two weeks max) you'll be 85 and awaken. You'll already know that bots are more than the mobs.
- one-two months more and you'll be 90, you would have realized that without friends will be very hard to get your sets
- 6-9 months more and you'll be 97-98 and you would have seen the tip of the iceberg - autotarget and the huge amount $$$ needed
- about an year-year and a half after you started you'll be 99!!! and you'd think "This is it! I did it! Now I may have chance for decent pvp without being oneshot all the time" and then you'll realize how wrong you are. By this time you'll know that without scripts you'll never be competitive for pvp and you'd have watched hundreds of clips with scripted people which play freely and are not afraid to show it.

For all this time you'll probably find decent pvp from time to time, but you'll never experience mass pvp(sieges only, because I doubt you'll have a chance to go for some of the epic raids) because you'll be oneshot when you face the big clans. You'll know that bots are on every field and level - up to 99 and even sometimes you'll have difficulties doing your daily quests, or at least you'll have to compete with the bot trains for the mobs:)

I speak a lot about the pvp, because I think this is the most interesting part of the MMOs and for me L2 has the best pvp system - pvp everywhere, you can kill anyone - even from your party or clan if you wish, mass pvp is great and has serious purpose and real results - epic bosses and the sieges, castles for your clan, the idea of the olympiad and the heroes....
If you are more like social person and would like to chat and farm more...this is totally not your place, at least not your server - the bots are overwhelming.

For the record I quit here like 9 months ago on 98lvl after about an year and a half play. My girlfriend for the same time managed to get 99. I've participated in every pvp I could and I played oly regularly (after 95 my wins/losses were equal most of the time)
