If NCwest want to prolong this games longevity, then they need to address the under lining issues of why this game has gone the route it has gone and start looking to modernize the game for the western market today, not what it was 10 years ago.
The grind for any legit player after level 90 is not insane (it is border line insane) BUT it certainly doesn't fit a western play style today. Not enough dailies to keep players interested or keeping them logged in. Adena drops are pathetic when you look at the cost of soul shots consumed to kill said mobs. Drop rates on items is probably the same as it was back in C3 atm, which isn't helping top up the servers market place. Spoiling doesn't become efficient until after level 97 and you can enter Hellbound at which point, you are regulated by what you can spoil based on what stage Hellbound is in.
This needs to be handled with care though if they adjust any rates what so ever because at the current moment, servers like chronos, the current price for anything worth while is a billion plus adena. If they banhammer the game in to submission, and adjust rates to reflect a legit player population, they need to keep on top of the bans to make sure that the prices don't get jacked to the point where that 1 billion standard cost then becomes 5 billion because they have let the issue run rampant again and the issue is then compounded 10 fold.
Anyways, the game needs to assist players to get to 97 faster. I doubt there is many players out there coughing down XP runes and potions at an accelerated rate to get there in a hurry. My suggestions are as follows:
- Decrease the amount of XP required to level after 85 - 99
- Increase the amount of quests, dailies, repeatable etc. in the ranges of 85 - 99 for solo, group and raid bosses.
- Increase the drop rate of itemization, resources and adena in the ranges of 76 - 99 for solo, group and raid bosses.
- Design and implement more group based content in open world and instance based scenarios.
- Decrease the cost of Adventure packs, XP runes and Potions in the Ncoin store so that more people have the incentive to want to purchase them.
- Implement more dungeon based group instances and environments so that players want to group up together rather then running 2 or 3 man small parties.
- Allow the newbie buff helper to buff people up too 95.
- Hot spot areas, these areas have an increased drop rate, adena drop rate or XP drop rate for a certain period of time. These areas are randomly generated by the client and rotated every 2 hours or so.
Not all of these need be implemented, you could implement a few in combination to get a desired out come.
If NCwest took these suggestion to NCsoft, I am sure they would cater to a more modern westernized market by doing so. If they don't take it too NCsoft OR if they do and NCsoft ignore it, kiss this game over for L2 in the western market.
Having a handful of players who spend thousands a year on this game is not the answer, having millions of players spend hundreds of dollars is the answer.

All these things would this game perfect! I would like add one item more:
Olympiad, cerimony of chaos and / or anything more to players to do pvp in all levels and grades and not for high lvl players.

Too much to read. Just say make the game more like WoW. The real L2 players won't care because they left a long time ago.
They already modernized Lineage 2 by monetizing it. Before GoD, NCSoft's profits were made by subscription. To keep up with the current trends, they adopted the "Free to Play" model and inducted the micro-transaction. At first, the micro-transaction was promised to sell non-game affecting and cosmetic items. When NCSoft discovered the competitive nature of the serious players, they started to introduce new items. Soon, the items went from non-game affecting to player advantage (or what is known as "pay to win"). XP boost packs were placed in the micro-transaction for the casual players, and equipment enhancement items was introduced and inducted for the endgame players (what ended up to be PvPers). Let's examine your suggestions.
To reduce the amount of xp required to reach level 85 to 99 would jeopardize the value of the xp runes and boosts, thus NCSoft would have to introduce more products to appeal the endgame. If you are not willing to spend more money during leveling, then you would have money at endgame. If you don't want to spend money for endgame, then you would probably stop playing because of the "pay to win" stigma.
To increase the amount of game content, you would at first invest in the game. Time is certainly money but time spent without buying most of the products sold in the micro-transaction store would limit the game content. It is not profitable if they gave you the levels, you have to spend money to get it fast.
To increase the drop rate of raidbosses would defeat the purpose of the drop rate rune sold in the micro-transaction shop.
They did have group activities called "Campaigns" and that content was removed due to lack of participation. The rewards for working together as a server wasn't worth enough for warring clans to put aside their need for clan points and complete the campaigns. In fact, the rewards weren't worth much because they were items that weren't needed at all. To reintroduce a group game content would cost money and that would mean more players purchasing items from the micro-transaction. And so far, your suggestions would
hinder that growth. No money, no new content.
Why lower the price on packs? Why not introduce more items into them? Players are clamoring for in-game items, why not place the "Pandora's Box" in the packs?
Ok, I'm getting tired right now so the last two will be quick. How much help do you need to get to 99? By the time you get to 90, you have plenty of instance and group instance content to offset the need to grind as a casual player. If you are more than a casual player, then you can congregate with other more than casuals and form up a "constant party". Help them to help you by buying items in the NCStore. GET ON WITH IT!

I'm old player and still here and plan to stay here also. There are many real old players still around.
Wildrain the good thing is, that most of your wishes are planned by the developers and probably a part of them will release in them in the upcoming updates in the near future.
But I disagree with it, that Lineage 2 would need more instances. As Valoran told we don't want WoW style gameplay from L2. Also the developers neither as they didn't add in the newer updates to the game new instances only open world areas.

You point out the exact issue with this game perfectly. The ability to get anything meaningful done is pushed heavily by the cash shop, that imho is bad design and turns most people off by the time they realise the grind is so heavy at 93+ and they key on that it will take them another year to reach 99 where they then have to spend another 500 - 700 billion adena to become competitive, hence the reason we keep seeing boss jewel events on a consistent basis to assist players in achieving that competitive standard.
You seem to be blatantly ignoring the fact that majority of players simply don't grind anymore and they just run 2 or 3 instances and dailies on several characters and across several dual classes now, very rarely can you go out in to the open world and see multiple groups of people grinding for 6+ hours a day anymore.
I've spent over $1000+ on this game in the last 6 months let alone what I have spent over the years, how much more do I have to spend and how many more people do I have to watch quit the game before I start to worry my investment is going down the toilet?
You also seem to think that micro transactions is modernizing this game when this form of revenue has been around for the last decade.
I did think of one thing while reading your post though, which got me thinking, other games out there that also heavily rely on micro transactions today, allow access to further content by subscribing.
So take the prestige pack for example, they could add some extra content you can access for purchasing this or implement a complete new pack for content access.
One last thing, I did say that not all these ideas need to be implemented, you can add a few to get a desired outcome, for example, more content in the form of dailies, quests and farming areas coupled with cheaper prices on XP runes and adventure pack closes the gap on xp required from 85 -99. Hot spot areas make it an open form of area control to take place in random areas of the game based across all level ranges which can be determined by the system, not controlled by a live GM and rotated every 2 hours or so.
I'm old player and still here and plan to stay here also. There are many real old players still around.

We need an influx of new players entering 97+, end of story.
If anyone has any better ideas on how to get *legit* players in to this range, please do tell us.
I am guessing that ncwest will see how next update plays a roll in new players coming back to game. most gamers cant afford to keep up with the rich/bots so the pay2win system is the only thing that probably needs fixing.
If ncwest wanted more players they could simply advertise/offer incentives/hire a promotion manager/ and of course be fair.

This was one of the biggest reasons I quit when GOD came out. I knew where this was going (starting with the power shirts). I've suffered ncsoft decisions long enough and I knew better. I'm glad I left.

Not sure if you can come back to the game and be new at the same time. But the only way I would ever come back to this game, is if ncwest sold it to another mmorpg company (who kept their promises), who opened a classic server (chronicles up to before interlude aka the real lineage 2), and promised never to modify the design.
For now, most of us old players are much happier on a low rate chronicle private server, and are much happier with the cheaters control and customer service.

That's not what I am saying, not even remotely close. Learn to read.
If you want new players to come and play this game and help repopulate the high end portion of the game, you need to learn to sacrifice the time you spent to get there to assist in having a populated end game experience, other wise, watch this game crash and burn and continue to be a white knight doing it. I've been playing since Interlude and spent thousands of dollars in the cash shop, I am willing to sacrifice that to help people catch up, but nothing like the way you are suggesting to do it.

The even sadder thing is, people like you will have to watch this game crash and burn and its ok, because I highly doubt you have spent any real money to support this title in the past 6-12 months. So you get what you pay for, right?
Also, let me clarify, again, I am not asking or have I even remotely suggested that we are able to *buy* a maxed out level toon, I am simply stating that a happy medium needs to be met to assist us in enjoying a competitive PvP environment based of cost vs gain in todays western market.
Anyone who tries to troll me or argue against this, simply enjoys having no competition, period.
I think removing the lvl cap will be the end of game, the botters will hit 105 and the legit 99 will be at a huge disadvantage. And the scripts, I don't get it, how is that fun? Knowing you won a fight by cheating doesn't get old quick? Lets play pacman with no ghosts....

The amount of real life currency the top clans profit from using scripts and botting is the real cancer of l2, and ncsoft either bans them and loses money and the game may die, or they leave the botters alone and lose money and the game will eventually die.
In other words, its best to move along, dont invest a rusty coin in this game, play it till you get bored and leave the zkids with their crappy game. Everyone knows that real pvp is played on private servers, leave the pve to the oficial servers.

Competitive pvp? Clearly you haven't been paying attention.
Also, if L2 dies, I will be dancing on it's grave in rejoicing that ncwest will no longer be taking advantage of people like you who pay them rl money to play the one-arm bandit just for a chance of being the BEST PIXEL EVAH!

All u suggested will repopulate the bot portion of the game nothing more.
To catch up?
5 days my friend, 5 god d..mn days. This, some players needed to get from 1 lvl to 99 with new race.
I will use red shinny letters, big letters, and some profanity just so you daydreamers feel me.
NC DOES NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK. NO ONE CARES. IT'S ABOUT THE MONEY. YOU MONKEYS. EAT A BANANA WHILE PLAYING L2 AND TRY TO ENJOY EATING IT SINCE PLAYING L2 WON'T BE ENJOYABLE.
Well...improving all what has been removed from game again...eeeeeh , sounds ok...no?
Exp was slow , always been , but drops were lots more and adenas drop ammount was lot higher when GOD came out.
What happened? All GMs died (of cancer probably or car crash) and they disappeared. Bots went ALL-OUT in game and start getting bilions per day and stuff with illegal programs.
So NCna last living GM made a choice : improving all the OP ***** with pay-to-get so they will have more and more money 'till game will die.
In the meanwhile just be sure to nerf adena drop and items drop , in order to fight the bots. 'coz logging once per day to ban bots was impossible!
Ah , one thing...NA servers are going to die , more and more , and they will just keep going PAY-TO-WIN (as the xmas event once again proved)...now i will make you notice one thing :
Brooch system in NA -> Pay a lot , get the items RANDOM and pray to get something , 5 euros x item , 50 euros per 4 sloot brooch , totaly unbalanced TOPAZ bypassing barriers and UDs.
(tl;dr -> NO topaz , 1 euro = one lv 1 jewerly of ur choice , pay adenas and get 4 sloot brooch and random jewerly FROM MERCHANT OF MAMMON IN GAME , pay 50 euros and get 4 sloot brooch PLUS 40+ random boxes)
Why do they have balanced and modified items and we just get all the OP pay-2-get ****? Why do they have 2x events and when server crash or got problems they spawn nevit or cat? easy.
We're the NCNA , we get only real money events , we get the top cheaters , we get the ****. Have fun on our dead servers.
the grind is so heavy at 93+ and they key on that it will take them another year to reach 99 where they then have to spend another 500 - 700 billion adena to become competitive, hence the reason we keep seeing boss jewel events on a consistent basis to assist players in achieving that competitive standard.
You seem to be blatantly ignoring the fact that majority of players simply don't grind anymore and they just run 2 or 3 instances and dailies on several characters and across several dual classes now, very rarely can you go out in to the open world and see multiple groups of people grinding for 6+ hours a day anymore.
Not sure if troll or serious.
You mention the grind for people (I assume you mean casuals, the people you want to modernize the game towards) that don't even care to be 99. If they did care, they could achieve this in one week. The people you claim are doing 3 dailies and logging out ENJOY doing that. If they didn't, or they wanted to achieve greater the opportunity's are just being handed out by NCsoft. People enjoy different things and I'm not sure who you are trying to modernize the game for. Everyone has different taste, so this thread is going to have conflicted opinions. Most endgame players have no problem with the game (Insert cheating comments here) and most middle of the road players have no problem either. Getting 99 is a walk in the park, people are doing it with their alts from 93-99 in one week or less. (I did it on my sub, 4 hours a night in 6 days)
Your assumption on the costs of being endgame are very inflated. Again endgame has a differnt meaning for everyone, but 500 billion would probably buy you EVERYTHING you can possibly require, let alone 700 like you figure.
Blessed Antharas / Blessed Valakas - 80-100billion
+6 Dark set - 40-60billion (60 is very high)
+12 dark weapon (Dark bows scattering town) 40billion or LESS
Remaining Jewels / Baium soul / Istina earing - 20billon or LESS
Longing tailsmen - 10-15billion
Lilth tailsmen - 6-8 billion adena
Level 99 skill enchants - 5-10bilion adena
CoC belt - 20-25billion
Tattoos - 10billion
Extra Monies - 5Billion
That comes in at less than 300billion (293) and HALF that stuff is overkill. I'm playing in a +6 PVE set with no dark weapon, no Bvalakas, no longing talismen and no CoC belt. My toon doesn't compare to some of the endgame toons, but it doesn't get crushed. The fact you listed 700billion has me very concerned on what you're buying and who pays these prices, double what you "think" is required. The only items left off that list was the remaining ring (Could be a beleth if support) and a Seven Signs tailismen along with level 5 brooch jewels in which 90% of the people don't have anyway.

You on drugs man?
Just a question. How can one possibly make 300, 500, 700 billion in a lifetime? For the life of me I can't figure it out. How do you do that??

Legit? Lots of time put into the game, lots of work pricing out the market, crafting, etc. Unless you get lucky as hell you're not likely going to make a lot for awhile. But once you hit a critical mass of adena, you can basically keep on top of that to roll in a lot more.
The downside is that you basically aren't playing L2 at that point or leveling much (if at all). There's not that many things that consistently are available and sell any longer, so it's not as easy to buy/sell items and be assured luck. You can buy a bunch of items, oe, and re-sell, but if you fail more than expected, or the market dries up/falls out, then you're left with a big fat pile of nothing.
The other legit way, is of course, NCoin and legitly turning $$$ into adena. There are several things that are sold consistently that sell for some adena in game, and every time there's an event there is some money to be made.
Non legit, I think you already know the answer like most do. Not hard for some to make money when they have teams of slaves that don't complain or sleep.
As for the "end game" toon argument. Depending on class, skill, and goals, you can certainly get by with much less. But a "fully decked" end game toon will indeed likely have ~400B+ worth of gear. It does vary from server to server of course.
You absolutely can take ~200B and get your character VERY respectably geared out, but it's still going to fall behind some who have access to resources that the majority of players on a server would simply consider infinite.

Don't ask me, I don't have anywhere near 300, 500 or 700 billion worth of gear. There's about 10 ways you could do it, 5 of them legit and 5 of them unlegit. Choose your poison. Play the market, some of the richest people in this game are not cheaters but item flippers and town statues. I would choose that method as economics interests me but its rather slow. Like Asynja suggested you could buy NCcoin and sell the items and so fourth.
Please share your technique I play 6 hours per day too I do all dailies and grind too and it took 94-95 2 weeks alone..
Go to Land of Chaos. Get 2 decent nukers, third can be rather scrubby. Get good tank and good healer. Can box ISS if you want with the last spot as a leach. Have tank pull two pits. Stand in between said pits and aoe monsters. Make sure to snare in a similar location and have tank run circles around monsters while using hate. You can do one pit if your tank isn't strong enough of doing two pits is difficult. This will be significantly slower (Obviously) but still probably 10x better than doing dailies.
Pop vitality / runes / whatever else
Switch who plays the tank if he gets bored (I can only pull for like, 2 hours then I wanna suicide) Keep this up for a week or two if you are less effective and get 99. I've seen many people doing it on Naia and Chronos, maybe less effective than endgame players, but we were doing 93-95 in one night :(

No person who has play time like that without access to resources/friends with setups to help is going to be able to do that.
Full runes/vit items + AOE in in whichever area fits your level. Fairies, Orbis, LOC, etc. Or just a VERY good aoe party with a birthday pot or a few vit maintain potions. If the dragon buff is up it can stack onto that really well.
If you're by yourself, without +++gear and your own personal buffer, especially if you're not shelling out for Ncoin, even if you play for 6-10 hours a day, you're not going to get 93-99 in 6 days.
But yes, with runes/vit and people willing and able to bring you into AOE parties, 99 is a breeze to get to.

Without spending real money it's harder, but if you pick the right events in the cash shop and get lucky with the items you can outfit yourself decently. Depends how much you can spend. Me personally if I need adena for something I've wanted I have a set amount I'll spend in any given event that I deem worthy of profits. It's not cheating and a lot of people do it.
Sometimes I don't spend more than $30-$40, bank my profits and see if I have enough to buy what I want or keep saving. Do some raids when you can and hope for the best.

I'm not on drugs, but with this quote, you clearly are out of touch with the current state of the game as is quite evident by your further posts and replies to people who cannot reproduce what you are saying let alone farm 300 billion adena legitimately to become competitive in any kind of decent time frame that doesn't take the next x amount of years and diving deep in to your pocket while risking that all that hard work get canned from a game shut down.

^ This, for the people who claim its so easy to get to 99 obviously received help or shelled out a heap of real life money on a game that could potentially be shut down over the next few years if it keeps losing players and not regaining those lost players OR helping more players achieve higher levels to fill the void of the people leaving.
everyone who has purchased nccoins, myself included...
we've had time with them, we've enjoyed their rewards...
server wipe and they all go away, but the enjoyment we had with them will be cherished forever.
You have a valid point. But I dare say, if they did this, most people who feel tied to their progress they have made over the last decade would be inclined to leave the game rather then stay around and start again.
So the question then becomes, will they attract more players then they loose? Which is a win/win for them, but a win/lose for us because we lose friends but have the ability to make more new ones.
They would be shooting themselves in the foot to do a wipe like that. It's one thing to lose temp items like levels and all. But people who got agathions, and other things that are permanent?
Not to mention the things earned over months/years in the game. Tons of people would just walk away.
If they want a fresh start, they would just make a new server and permanently disable any transfers to it. If any wanted a 100% fresh start/restart they could do so there.
The imbalance will always be there however, it's built into the game. Whoever takes the top levels/gear the fastest is going to have an advantage.
And so long as they don't actively keep down the botting population it won't make a difference anyways as it will wind up like the current servers before too long.
I'm not on drugs, but with this quote, you clearly are out of touch with the current state of the game
I'm out of touch, yet you're the guy who claimed you need 700billion to be competitive not me.

This isn't a single player game, its a 10 year old Chinese style MMO (Lots of farming) that they've already made easier for people. Of course people getting 99 received help....from their clan mates.
The game wasn't designed for 1000 solo players to reach endgame alone(Though also possible) its designed as a clan based strategic mmo. (See endgame raid bosses, castle sieges, xp zones) For every 100 people struggling with this game, there is 100 people who got into a clan and got to level 99 with their clan mates. The XP methods I described are not difficult, but do require teamwork and non handicapped players.
I'm not out of touch and I'm actually very bored with this game for my own reasons, but trying to save a game that has no marketing and is plagued with problems isn't going to happen. Stop holding your breath and go kill some monsters.
