I've been researching the patch notes of Infinite Odyssey. And there are rumors that the expansion came in April. I'm in the problem of deciding which equipment to buy. I'm looking to maximize my damage on my summoner in End Game PvE in Infinite Odyssey
Not sure why ppl keep using bows after the upgrade to weapon mastery.
It's quite clear the developers want you to use Retributer. If they are changing anything I'm sure they would sooner boost retributers more and nerf bows, than the other way around.
Spectral's Call: Use the power of ghosts to increase M. Atk. And M. Critical Damage for 30 seconds. Additionally increases your servitor's P. Critical Damage and vital point attack rate. Consumes 10 Spirit

What the developers wanted didn't matter. Math matters. Developers generally should be looking at how changes perform mathematically to see if they are in line with their philosophy, and clearly they didn't check the Weapon Mastery Passive before it went live... It didn't change anything except allow people with higher gear levels to use Retributers effectively. It's why all the bot Wynns were still using Bows when they could have easily put Event Retributers on them. Those people aren't clueless, they just are good at elementary mathematics.
At the lower end of the spectrum the Retributer would have needed to be OE'd considerably to compete with lower grade Bows, because the Gains to P.Atk and M.Atk at same grade simply couldn't compete with the gains to P.Critical you got with a Bow. A Requiem Bow +3 gave you better performance than an Spectre Retributer +4. The Crit was that big of a deal. It was the most frustrating thing about playing this class. Unless your jewels and other stuff was kind of amazing you needed two weapons all the time (the two most expensive types of weapons, too).
Things are different in Infinite Oddesey largely due to the changes to Marks (a good change).
Trenshero, please update yourself. Bow r outdated for wynns since a big time ago (do you ever heard we got valiance before this IO, right?). I do have a wynn char and had played it with both 2 weapons (bow and retri), but I gave up on the bow 'cause it sucks when you realise the retributer gives the same efficiency while letting you play in a more comfortable wizard focused approach.
Well, unless you r that type of wynn player that always only summon 1 type of pet FOR ALL situations, while keeps hitting autoattack with bow to "proc counter critical" instead of spamming marks and not being a f**cking deadweight. If so, then #sorryboutit 'cause
1. I was playing for Valiance. The disparity was still there. Tested for many hours. Unless your gear was incredible and you could get to 400+ Character P.Crit with a Retributer the Bow won, even if it was a lower grade. What you gained in M.Atk (given how poorly it scales compared to P.Atk and P.Crit (up to cap) ) and the fact that M.Crit was broken means you gained little by comparison otherwise and you lose less DPS from M.Atk than you gained from P.Crit going from Retributer to Bow.
I have both Retributer and Bow on my Summoner, since my Dual Class is an Archer, so it's not a factor of not being able to afford one or the other. It's a factor of seeing which ones does better.
I've always said Retributer > Bow if the grade disaprity was very high or you were geared enough that you could get your Summoner's (the character) P.Critical up to 400+ with just Boxed Iss Buffs. Since P.Crit is capped the bow becomes less and less useful as your gear your Crit up higher, until it eventually is not viable because you gain little to nothing from it and the M.Atk you do lose form not having the Retributer as a result factors in a lot more.
That was before Infinite Oddessey, which did make summoners scale a LOT better with M.Atk than they did back then.
2. I am not sure what is more comfortable about playing a Wynn than having your pets do 85% of your damage instead of being literally forced to Mark and Nuke Spam at a ridiculous level to try to match the damage output because you completely changed your gear up since the developers "intended" for you to use a different weapon type (which has nothing to do with how the weapons are performing on those characters in game). Factoring in how terrible Mark Damage was prior to this update, you can't really blame a lot of Wynn Players for almost never using them unless they were grouping High HP MOBs...
3. The only type of Wynn there is below 97 or 98 is the kind that lets their pets auto attack everything because it's the only way to level efficiently, or at all if you have a clue - since most people who aren't cheating are spending the majority of their time down there soloisg, anyways... There is only one pet to use in those situations, since any time the pets spend chasing MOBs is XP you lose. In group areas you use the pet that is most appropriate, but then I stopped playing my Wynn and started playing my Feoh and Healer more towards the end because the Summoner was boring and my entire clan quit and went to another game.
4. I'm not sure what you mean keep hitting auto attack with bow to proc Counter Critical. Doesn't Counter Critical proc when you get hit and not when you attack?
Also, I'm talking more PvE since I haven't bothered to do any PvP or Olympiad at all in this game since about 3 years ago. I am also referring to a specific "phase" in gear progression. If you inspected those Bow Summoners beyond what Armor and Weapon they are wearing (Jewelry, Augmentation, Brooches, and other accessories) then it would become more apparent why they were running with such a setup. Bow has always been terrible in PvP unless you were fighting against trashy players with very bad gear and no IQ.
In any case, the class has been changed and that is no longer such a hot debate to have moving forwards.
^ About the "proc counter critical" thing, it's a personal joke 'cause that was the response I got from a wynn when I asked him why the hell he was autoattcking instead of spammin marks - hands down, no arguable options left.
About the rest, you got your half point there, and it's. Much have changed and by your other posts, it seems you have been absent from game for too long. My PoV and opinion about this matter stands the same still.
When you talk about Wynns, only 3 things must be quickly noticeable: Marks, Survivability and Crowd-Control Ability. If any summoner player is missing or neglecting on of those, then he's doing something uber wrong to start with. Period.

For raids xform+auto hits are better but only with certain buffs and gear/setup.

How do you figure that? Transform loses the ability to get the link buff up, which gives Summons something like 35% P.atk, 35% Crit Dmg and 30% crit rate.... that's quite a BIG thing.
Not to mention Marks, which with the right setup do some awesome damage.

That boost isn't that high iirc. Anyway a probably setup and buffed xform wynn can do double the damage of each pet with normal attacks. The wynn itself can do more ddamage than a stacked tyrr even.

At level 5 it is definitely something like 30% crit rate, 35% crit dmg and 30% p.atk. I'm not at home to test now though. You can easily go over 500 critrate by having link level 5 up.
The new 100 lvl summons do very good dmg with there skills in pvp now. So the better set up is light armor with OE reti.
The new summons damage didn't seem that great to me. A friend of mine with stacked gear and a +++ Dark Retributer was lethal striking me on my healer, it did about 2k damage.

When the skills of the new summons crit they do good dmg.
