I'm considering giving this game a go, but I'd like to ask if bots are such big issue like people here seems to make it out to be, or can you have fun, ignoring bots? Also, which server has least bots?

Are they a big deal?
Short answer, yes.
Long answer.
Old game is old. You won't have much interaction with live players until at least 85+, possibly longer depending on playtime, class, and overall play style.
From 1-90 the vast majority of characters out in any given hunting area are likely bots.
90+ you have a much higher mix of live players to automated one. Some areas are occasionally REALLY bad (such as Garden of Genesis, Isle of Souls, Execution Grounds).
End game the afk bots aren't much of an issue, but the PvP bots are. So if you're looking to hit end game and try to compete with the best of the best. Just know that the best of the best have a much greater than average chance to be assisted by 3rd party tools.
If you just want to enjoy the game and not compete with the elite, then it can be a lot of fun for a new player once you break into the more active level ranges.

This is not the only problem.
As some know me i'm quite a "famous forum-warrior-attention-*****" (as they call me,seems like truth hurt feelings) , but i'm also a legit and very skilled player.
Fact is that nowdays there are several "issues" about "end-game".
Bots are quite a problem 'cuz they usually steal XP spots (as happened some time ago, you were unable to exp in places as harnak/bloody/IOS/gf) and bot owner would eventually log if you PK or bother their bots.
Even if you hit level 99,the problems would be 2 :
Top players are cheaters with 3rd program (mass pvp > auto assist/ress/noble/interrupt - single pvp > auto target/anti hide/interrupt/auto topaz) which actually are quite a pain in the ***...but this is not the problem i meet when i found such handless clowns , mostly the problem is
The over-gearment of such players. If you don't mind to waste like 100/200+ euros/dollars per week,then you're welcome joining L2,otherwise getting some gear and reach the top will be insane slow,or even impossible.
IE,i like doing olympiads ,'cuz it is (was,now is no more) the place where people usually fight with a close kind of level/power. In the old patches (as prime lindvior or even first period of valiance) i was able to beat top players as (you don't know them prolly) Narwin,vandaluga,exeqtor,and lot more heroes or quite OP toons. Nowdays since i'm not spending euros in this dead-game,i'm totaly outgeared. They now have like 6/8k+ P.def NAKED,they hit insanely hard,most of them reflect 50%+ of the damage back to me (fought an iss from a clan which had anti hide and 80% damage reflect)...making any effort useless and the fight impossible to win,even if i play smart or i put up some strategy...they will get me with hide (so i can't win for DPS) and i can't even try to win for DPS since i'm getting the whole damage back at me...
And most of this players use 3rd program in order to gain adenas and boost further their gear...so yeah,Bots are quite a problem. :)

the game is 95% bot now and ncsoft dont care it so sad to see a great game go under for bot, you cant hunt any where :mad: bot bot bot and ncsoft keep prices so high :confused: so 1+1 = ncbot:eek:

Will they implement it? No
If it was after me i wouldn't even allow dual box. Yes, I do use dual box but I did experience a private server with anti bot and no dual box system implemented and that made the game a lot more fun.

Agree BUT then they should re-consider the 14+ or 21+ character instances, not to mention the 49+ instances...
I will be happy with just a real anti-bot system and undo the nerf in drops/adena.
