I came back after a long time of absence from the game to inquire about the new expansion and whether or not will it revive Lineage in a whole new way.
I had the time to compare with other games on the market today and they obviously felt a lot smoother than the sluggish mechanics of Lineage 2.
Guild Wars 2 in particular, also published by NC, is entirely different from Lineage 2 considering how much it has to offer. Those who tried it will agree - the living world content, live events, storyline, dynamics. The only thing I disapprove is the limited combat which I absolutely detest.
As demanding as the game is it still runs smoother on my laptop than Lineage that is more than 10 years old running on an ancient engine giving power machines a hard time to run smooth.
I don't understand the logic of keeping a game alive without proper innovation.
So, what's in with the next expansion? Will it feature ground breaking changes? Will it uproot everything that has been carved into stone for Lineage so far?
Skill Enchantment will go to +20, but this does not mean more powerful skills, just a stretching of matters. The new +20 is equivalent to the current +10, but it will cost you twice as much to achieve :D
So the same, only new content added. Not interesting at all. They really just want to squeeze money out of people.
Thanks for the response. I really wished for NC, that someone reasonable would step in and either close down shop or improve, guess that is never going to happen.

If Lineage Eternal follows what made Lineage 1 the most popular MMO in Korea and still the most profitable game of NCSoft. It will be a much better game than L2 just like L1 is a better game than L2 with a diablo-like camera:
removing instance zones for top end game items would be groundbreaking, reworking pk system would as well. gotta bring back competition! and no not the bot war competition :)
gambling would be ok if it was reworked. getting the same giants lifestone augment 4x in a row isnt fair/fun gambling.
According to Elmar, there are now only 20-25 developers for L2, so just forget about big changes. The last big change was during GoD development with around 200 developers.
Don't expect anything but worse and worse development decisions from now on.
They don't have people nor money to make big changes in the engine like Blizzard does to WoW. They would throw money out of the window doing this as L2 is currently the second least profitable game of NCSoft(only behind Wildstar).
In 2014 L2 made a revenue of 59 billion Korean Won and Wildstar(only 2 quarters) 49 billion KRW (both of them excluding royalties):
they went to f2p, this mode needs a lot like aaaaaaaaaa lot of players and you won't get any profit if servers are plagued with rmt and bots and no one even cares to ban them because new poeple will just say "oh geez whats the point i will never beat those bots" ...
Ncsoft need to do many things to bring l2 back, because now it looks like a dying private server wich will close down in a while.
reducing bots to a minimum
adding more dailies for 1-85 lvl players + bringing back like 10 75lvl~ raids which there removed , making kill the boss events. To make lvling to awakening fun and easy ride even for total newbie.
adding level based party pvp arena where you could gather your friends and march on every evening to pvp for fun or small rewards even if you are still lvl 86 with diploma gear. or faction pvp arena..
there a lot of ways of bringing players back and of course the money
but as other commenter said if there is only 20 devs... thats bad news

It's published, but not developed by NC. Hence the differences. Just dig out a bit of ArenaNet's history before comparing it to NC developers...

This is actually good news. When Lineage 2 Classic was developed, the Development Department has been split up into a Classic Server Team and a Live Server Team, with only 7 people working on the "life version", what we have. After Lineage 2 Classic went live, the developers were reunited, devoting their time to either Classic or Live, whatever is necessary. This leads to a certain spillover of features. Like for example the method of leveling up Soul Crystals via Compounding was in November 2014 first introduced in the Classic version:
As far as gambling is concerned, what is colloquially known as "Korean Random" is a relic from the days before Blessed Enchantment Scrolls were invented. At school we learned that when you flip a coin, each attempt is independent from the previous attempt, so you might very well get "heads" five times in a row. In practical tests this happens rather rarely though; in Lineage 2 streaks of good luck (and of necessity also bad luck) occur significantly more often than what we experience in real life. This must be so because otherwise back in the day nobody would have gotten their Yaksa Mace to +7 :)
There has always been a strong element of gambling in Lineage 2. Like for example with the current SA System Soul Crystals can either level up when you kill a Boss, or not, often just for one random member of the party. But when your Stage 12 Soul Crystal does not level up, you don't really lose anything (except the Soulshots to kill the Boss) and can go for another try next week.
With the new system - leveling up by Compounding - one of the two original Soul Crystals goes up in smoke on a failed attempt, like when you upgrade Brooch Jewels. Some people might find this exciting, but for the vast majority of players it's just frustrating. Even in Korea, where people are traditionally fond of gambling, they are getting fed up with all the randomness: http://lineage2.plaync.com/board/image/view?articleId=600290&page=4

Talking about the Korean Random and streaks of bad luck... sometimes I just have a feeling the system is cheating. First time I felt that feeling many years ago, during the event where one had to gamble (by guessing the coin's side) with the event npc to increase the collector's level. I decided to pick "heads" at all times, yet the npc replied "tails" way too many times in a row. Thus I wasted an abnormally big number of quest items to earn just a few level-ups.
And now, I failed to make lvl 2 Topaz. Collected 8 boxes, and failed 7 (seven!) times in a row.

Guild Wars 2 is the most casual, hand holding crap I've ever played. And the pvp in that game is an absolute disaster. The game is called Guild Wars... and it doesn't even have guild wars. Instead it has some pointless instanced pvp. The whole world is a bunch of instances where you hold hands with everyone and help each other killing mobs.
I've yet to see a game come close to the rpg mechanics of lineage, difficulty or its pvp. Where you have to fight for every raid and every thing.
The only thing they need to improve or change is the engine and deal more efficiently with bots and cheaters. But even as is, its still the best mmo out there.

That's the problem with Korean random. If the Heavy Medal (http://legacy.lineage2.com/archive/2006/09/heavy_medal_1.html) event had lasted for several months, or if you had an unlimited supply of lvl 1 Topazes, the streaks of bad and good luck would sooner or later even out and you would have gotten a Wolf Badge (I myself never got beyond Rabbit :p ) or a lvl 5 Topaz.
This is the reason why rich people, who do have a large supply of Topazes, tend to get richer in this game, while poor players, who must rely on a luck that is weighted against short gambling runs, tend to lose all their assets. We have all heard of players who blow up their one weapon while trying to overenchant it from +3 to +4: http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=272999#1
Even if the system is - in the long run - not cheating, it's definitely not fair in the traditional sense. On the other hand, the lesson this game teaches to young players ("the rich get richer, the poor get poorer") might maybe, just maybe, nudge the one or the other that tiny little bit closer towards a deeper understanding of the policies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songbun) implemented by the Workers' Party of Korea :D

I agree with you 100% about the combat system. It's just horrible. Unbelievably limited.
The mechanics though are somewhat good, compared to Lineage a lot better.
Good thing I only spent 10 EUR on the game, so I don't have much to regret.
Regarding Lineage, the closest playable thing I found is Aion... WOW I despise from the bottom of my heart, it looks totally childish and it's subscription-based.
If there are any suggestions about alternatives to the above mentioned I'm open to them.

Funny, that's the usual argument of GW haters.
The original Guild Wars game didn't have Guild versus Guild until a year later its release.

Nothing that would replace lineage 2 for me. I kinda enjoyed Final Fantasy 14 Realm Reborn, when I played the beta. Its very different from lineage and very streamlined, modernized game, like most others, but it is a very high quality game. It does seem to have some depth with the way classes work and new classes unlock as you level up sub classes etc. Seemed the most interesting from the lot ( TERA, guild wars 2 etc.. )

I did played lots of online games just to try them out,but sadly L2 is the best.
If we ignore the massive fails made by NCBot company, ofc.
The PVP system is totaly amazing, you can fight who you want when you want (except for the lowbies with the protection blessing from PKs) , and even the PK system is really funny (was...qq),I also love the target-system which make easier to fight in PVP or PVE.
I did tried Tera,AWESOME as graphic and game mechanism as well (the few i tried),but the missing of target-system is totaly annoing in either PVE or PVP.It's AMAZING that i can DODGE the hits by pressing the button, making you able to ****** solo most of the raid bosses (the ones meant to be solo/mid group,at least). But the absence of targets ruins everything...at least,i did played the warrior, and not used to the no-target system i were unable to kill even an idiot, and in PVE my toon were able to pass-by the textures of the mob, wasting 3/4 of the skills.
The same goes for Archeage, another awesome game, and it even have a target system! but you cannot dodge. ****.
This is the sad reason why i keep coming back to this freaking ****...'cuz after all the fail and totaly cancer-dead amministration, this game still rocks.
Funny, that's the usual argument of GW haters.

I facepalm every time I hear the name.
It amazes me every time I hear that people actually played that godawful guild wars 1, while Lineage 2 was in its prime.
I'm guessing it had to do with their buy to play model. While Lineage 2 and WoW were subscription based.

I facepalm at people liking the combat in Lineage 2. Guess we're even. Because GW1 wasn't even a MMO, it was a CORPG with a very deep customization system, something that L2 can't even dream of.

I guess you're terrible at skillshot-based combat systems.
Fun fact: technically speaking, Poison Zone is a skillshot.

How can anyone not like the classic-rpg gameplay of lineage 2? That gameplay style is one of the cornerstones of the rpg genre. Its so sad to see every mmo trying to be an action rpg, loosing much of the depth in the process.

I actually sux even at FPS games since i aim like a blind grandpa.
Call it how you want but PZ actually is a "zone" which cover an area, and 90% of the times the effect goes even outside that area (for example i get some debuffs in the zone outside the poison) and it cover a quite good area,in Tera the skills have by far lesser range, and as i said, most of the times my char just bypass the textures of the mobs, ending up on his back, missing 50% of the skill...how annoing.
What started off as standard enchantment scrolls as one of the few gambles
Then there was the Destruction Scrolls (L2 Store $50 each)
Turned into Giant scrolls, then lucky stones (L2Store $$)
Then there's the first Power Shirts that no one uses now (L2Store $$$)
Power Shirts, Maphyr Shirts, All kinda shirts and now underwears (L2 Store $$$$$$)
Then Venir Talisman compoundings and now Brooch jewel compoundings (L2 Store $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)
In future update Soul Crystal will be based on compunding, wouldn't be a surprise if armor/weapon enchantment turned into compounding LOL!!
In next patch +20 skills is equivalent to +10 skills ($$$$$$$)
No level cap = more xp/sp runes (L2Store $$$$$$$$)
Will there be a ground breaking change you ask lol...becareful what you ask for
Soul Crystal Compounding has first been tested in Lineage 2 Classic, and 5 months later it was introduced in the regular version of Lineage 2. This should give you a timeline when we will see the compoundable enchantment scrolls over here :D

What is the point of that? I don't even understand the 1/6 adena drop on l2classics.
I can be a GM for 7$/h. If they lack the job interest in that department.
In this specific case the point is simply to make cash money, real-life Won (thanks to the 1/6 adena drop there is no inflation to combat on l2classics). NCKorea consistently fails to enforce a monthly subscription system, the players prefering to pay via time points that only tick down when the character is in a non-peace zone. So the developers thought up the so-called Attendance Check System (출석 체크) where players get, among other things, a chance to obtain the Enchantment Scroll Fragments you need, together with real Enchantment Scrolls, to gamble for better Enchantment Scrolls: http://lineage2classic.power.plaync.com/wiki/%EC%B6%9C%EC%84%9D%20%EC%B2%B4%ED%81%AC
The problem, from a legal point of view, is that, because you need to be logged in for a certain time to get those items, people are induced to actually play the game, i.e. have time points ticking down. In other words, people are induced to gamble with real money, first for an Enchantment Scroll, then for the Enchantment Scroll to actually enchant their item. The Korean National Assembly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Assembly_%28South_Korea%29) and law courts take an increasingly strict stance versus gambling mechanics in online games, so NCsoft is walking a very fine line there: http://lineage2.plaync.com/board/image/view?articleId=600290&page=5
But as you can tell from the rumpus in the last shareholder meeting, our esteemed leadership is getting really desperate: http://boards.rochand.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=407&start=1450#p30906
In theory they could license out the game and its further development, trying to keep the copyright for the basic idea and receive modest royalties for that, but I seriously doubt whether any video game company in their right mind would agree to such a solution. Developing a new game with the same features, just differently named, would be less hassle all around. But apparently nobody sees a profitable market for an open world PvP grind game. Check this video, made on the Korean PTS on March 29: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw6v9_UB3Os
Apart from the Russian who made the video, there is no other player to be seen, not one. And on the screenshots that Harv from Inven.co.kr took three days later on a live server, you can spot exactly one other player: http://www.inven.co.kr/webzine/news/?news=129885&site=lineage2
Five more and they could have a party.
This game has about as much future as the Stegosaurus :D
I'm talking about gameplay. Not morons that cheat, rmt, bot, destroying the game. Which I've already addressed in one of my previous posts, as being one the biggest problems with the game, along with its ancient engine. And even with all of that, nothing comes close to it.
*Tards with their moronic memes and "white-knight" type phrases, with zero substance, can suck it on my blocklist. It's enough reading that type of garbage on the rest of the internet.
a nice adena buff would be nice!!! sincerely , the entire **** community!!!! because F U Ncsoft for allowing so many bots and F U X2 for smashing to bits the only few honest and against cheating players that still roam on your servers. honestly, what the f is wrong with you people!?!?! asking for adena now to simply GET a REWARD item!?!?! it's a **** reward for a quest i worked my *** off for and now i have to PAY adena back!?!? seriously, check your brains you lame money-hungry ******bags!
did the creator of bots got a ceo position or something? this is a serious question btw or else i seriously can't explain what the hell happened to this game.
do we all have to buy adena or scripts or bots in order to enjoy this game or what!?! include this in your next patch-notes please as mandatory and ask us for a monthly fee please instead you pathetic scumbags!!! seriously if you're that hungry for money just freaking say it and stop spamming the game with your stupid bots and scripts that only ruin the whole ideea of gaming!!! Why is gameguard here in the first place since it's obviously bypassed so easily that anyone can bot or script without getting banned.
and another thing. what was the reason that determined the European community to import the adena nerf along with the new patch!?! honestly, there is something so rotten about a game so beautiful that i am seriously starting to believe in conspiracy theories. are you people seriously working for another company just to crush lineage 2 and watch it die!?! why the hell have you even removed the option to report bots and why doesn't it even say or show in the announcements that buying or selling adena in game is illegal!?!? I swear i would personally handle all servers and in one month or two all bots and all fake traders would be banned including their main characters. it's the only way to really save this game.

If you read the Lineage 2 Info Central (http://boards.rochand.com/index.php) you will get the idea why things are as they are.
This game is not playable on official servers, so much is clear, but it lives on, on alternatives, often with better protection and care.

I happen to like Diablo 3. Sure the story actually makes no sense at all and actually contradicts itself between the end of Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls. But at least the mobs actually drop money and equipment when you kill them. Something which the mobs in Lineage 2 were supposed to do until they got nerfed at nearly every update.
But you can make gameplay from an ancient game engine. Unless that engine is Unity. So many nongames are made using Unity, for example Grass Simulator.
there is a giant difference between D3 and Lineage Eternal.
for one camera angle. none of the diablo franchise have mobile camera angles.
second is equipment; Lineage Eternal is not an ARPG so gear will be very much like it exists in Tera or Guild wars. few sets, very skill based and full of buffs.
ARPG's like D3 give you 12 tons of drops and hope you get a good batch of affixes.
open world pvp and sieges in Lineage Eternal. even PVP and clan wars. none of that exists in D3, even remotely.
a wildly different game - and ironically if the sample video comes from 2011 then its D3 that rips off Lineage Eternal, cause D3 was released in 2013.

D3 was in development for at least 5 years. Probably longer if you consider all the potential game ideas and design possibilities that were considered and scrapped in the period between D2 and D3. So both games were likely developed independently. And since Diablo was the precursor from which Lineage 1 was developed, and Lineage Eternal looks to be taking after Lineage 1, then it was derived from Diablo 1 and 2, the same games from which Diablo 3 was derived.
The buffs are a huge downside, as like in L2, they are essentially required in order to have normal stats. If those buffs didn't exist, then your unbuffed stats would be the same stats you'd have with full buffs. They do nothing but detriment the game by requiring having those buffs in order to play normally, and since they are just background buffs, they are entirely passive and pointless in nature.
If the open PvP and sieges are anything like L2s, then not having them is actually preferable, as open PvP translates to nothing more than griefing, and the sieges become pointless weekend chores whose outcome is principally determined by whether or not a stronger clan than yours is on the offending or defending side or not taking part at all.
Finally as to gear, Tera is awful when it comes to gearing up. That game requires, or initially required, way too much grinding to get a gear upgrade. In D3 you can expect to receive at least a modicum gear upgrade from a shorter grinding session even if that session doesn't result in getting the actual drop you wanted. You can also get good drops no matter where you are killing mobs or what type of mobs or content you are doing.
And most importantly, the primary incentive in D3 isn't based on getting people to remain logged in for as many hours as possible, unlike the incentive behind Lineage Eternal where the devs only earn money based on the number of hours people play the game. This is the same perverse incentive which ruined Lineage 2.
