NCSoft basically scammed lots of people including myself with the Abundance Boxes. I've gotten rare items roughly 2/3rds of the time and all were junk. I only got non-rare items roughly 1/3rd of the time. I wouldn't of invested into this item if they had been honest about what is rare and what is not. No shame ncsoft. I don't even know if it is legal what they did. Most of the players that I play L2 with are all upset first that this was even put into the L2 store basically forcing players that want to compete to buy it (pay not to lose) and then lieing about what is the rare items. Most people now realize ncsoft will lie to us to get our money. They really should be ashamed of themselves.
I petitioned yesterday ncsoft on the boxes here is how they defended the rare items (load of garbage):

I'm very (ungenuinely) sorry for the inconvenience and I can understand waiting for a specific item to drop (because we get this kind of e-mail frequently), but please know that the Support Team has no control over which items you'll receive from the box (because we are a third party support company that have no direct effect in the game mechanics). (Buying and) Opening additional boxes may (in a small and minute chance to) provide the item that you are looking for. It's just a matter of (money), time and luck. Come on please.... this "don't cry at a casino" bs has been being said for far too long. This is an MMO not a casino, it's using gambling events with shifting odds to con people out of money and has been doing for the past year if not more.
I think people are fair enough complaining when they are just being played like fools (myself included).
As for the "Rare" chance items, this is another completely true, but dishonest scam imo.
Looking at it there are 46 items in the list, 4 "non-rare" 42 "rare".
Say each non-rare item has a chance of dropping of 5-7%.
Each rare item has a droprate of 0.0000001 - 2% chance.
You still have a much lower chance of getting a 2% chance item compared to a 5% chance item, so it can indeed be considered rare.... however as a group there is a 25% chance of getting an item from the non-rare drop table and a 75% chance of getting an item from the rare drop table....
Showing the items in rare and non-rare groups makes it appear you're more likely to get a non-rare item, in actual fact "rare" refers to items individually and you're significantly more likely to get an item from the rare drops than the common ones.

I made a petition and got the same lie. In NCsofts dictionary "rare" means "very common". If you buy abundance boxes be prepared to get one of the "rare" rewards almost every time.
Clearly, legislation hasn't caught up with NCsoft's business model yet. Putting a casino inside a virtual world is a very smart move. You are still playing with real money, but there's no goverment regulation. The game odds are in a black box, and can easily be tampered with without any legal reprecussions.

I love this part of the GM Response.... "Element" of randomness, I.E. Semi random, I.E. There is a random number, but the reward threshold is all set up to draw people in with some wins in popular time zones then give the vast majority of people nothing.
Psychology fact: People spend more when they're losing compared to winning.
Why is everyone mad about finally getting the "rare" rewards? This is the first time in my L2 career where I have received such great rare L2 rewards. You guys just need to look on the bright side of things.
