You won't have to start over. If you choose to play through Steam, you'll still have access to your same account with all of your characters.

Through Steam, it will only be available for players in North America, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. Those in the EU will still be able to play through the normal launcher like they do now.

IDK if you have any clue about the game mechanics, but a new Undeground server is not auto-suficient. For many updates now, since the severe nerfs begun. I've even said that years ago. No new server can succeed starting from scratch with all these nerfs.
It will fail or be overwhelmed with bots to keep economy running.
But then again, bots are the root problem of everyting in L2. They brought nerf on adena, items, quests.. all because you never did anything about it.

This is very true. The drop nerfs from Tauti onwards were a reaction to the excessive wealth on the Korean servers which had caused major inflation. On a new server there will be no wealth - everybody starts with 0 adena in their pocket. Things can be compensated by the free Steel equipment that is given out when a character reaches certain levels, and with Steel Door Coins players nowadays also can buy Shots up to S-Grade.
With no players being lvl 85 at the beginning, there will be no Mentees and no Immortal/Requiem equipment bought with Mentee Certificates. People will keep on using their Steel Dynasty equipment for quite some time. But sooner or later this won't work any more, and then there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth. "How am I supposed to pay for my BSSR with monsters dropping 500 adena upon death?" :D

I hope it will be available for South-East Asia too.The thing is, most public internet cafes here have Steam...that would make L2 more accessible for us...most of us play in the comfort of our home...I miss playing L2 in net cafes... off-topic : We had L2 SEA server before..but, it was closed 6 years ago :mad:

If you think Steam is going to stop the bots you are crazy, not going to happen. Steam is one of the easiest programs to break, even easier than GameGuard and if you want to play then use a Proxy program like Battleping or WTFast.
Region locking is also easy to get around, but I live in the US so I won't have any issues. :D

Most of the zones up to 90 are playable quite well even without shots tbh. Also, the L2Store is answers always there to compensate.

I'd play a new toon on Zaken ONLY if there was no L2 store available. I know, it doesn't make financial sense unless there was a fee to play on the server, but that's what it'd take for me to start all over. Otherwise it'll just be an instant Ncoin money sink, cuz nobody would have anything.

NCWest is distributor for North America(South America, Australia etc)... their hands are tied by Distribution Contract. Steam Users are restricted to NCWest Distribution Territory... so you can use Steam to access their servers ONLY inside their territory. However; you can still Launch the game without Steam "World-wide" as usual. L2 EU has European Territory and you can also Launch "World-wide" for their "core" server but the Classic server is going to be Region Locked to EU only(if they were to add Steam distribution it would also be Region Locked). It's the Legal Department trying not to infringe on any other Distribution Territory... even if no other territory has plans to release through Steam.

Yeah Ncwest hasnt jumped into the marketing/hype train with L2 yet. With GW2 they are very active with community but thats another team^_^

You won't need a new account. The first time you load the game from Steam it will bring up the launcher you use now and ask you to sign in. Please be aware that whatever account you sign in with the first time will be the account that is tied to your Steam account.
I am really bathurt about the region lock since i live in EU and i am heavy steam user(add kilplix if you want). sigh... i guess i have to suck it up :(

Yeah it's a new server from the beginning, we hope that prices will be balanced and not like the other servers.
It's not just to open Zaken and make money, the most important to bring and keep new players is to keep it alive and clean. If they cannot do that server will die instantly.

Totally agree in this point, seems they make gog for bots :cool:
the new server is only for the players that would like equity (for a while atleast) and wont have to deal with players with thousands of dollars in equipment abusing the server, like taking control of castles the first siege weekend and so on, introducing billions of adena and items thus making prices so unstable for new players, comon guys why the rant? this is logic right there, so move on.
If they feel like joining an existing server its up to their decision, but they atleast have the option for a fresh start.
And dont be surprised if NC-west opens one or more servers besides Zaken depending in the population the first days of Zaken.
Better think that the existing servers will have or can have more people attracted to them, which is always cool, I wish I could see 3 servers in heavy load and the least populated in medium atleast, more people = more incentives in game = more development. (Hope they dont screw again like when GOD came out, all servers full but made everything that could be done to make people quit.)

True, but it won't take long before server xfers open up...I would say no later than the first of the year for NC to open xfers to the new server which will even out the gear problem.
I think it will be kind of funny when xfres do open, 1 or 2 parties with full +8 dark gear will rule the server.

well steam also offers option to see how many hours you have sink in game + voice chat, its a good thing, pity its only for NA players, i still dont get it, even if 4g has publishing rights in eurpoe than how come you are allowing eu players to play using official client?
