Are you Currently PvP or PvE focussed?

General Discussion Started Last reply 55 posts
Simple question really, what do you currently mostly aim yourself towards?

Do you regularly pvp and focus all your gear/time toward this? Do you mostly PvE but try and improve in PvP whilst you do it. Do you PvE and purely aim to PvE?

For example:

Personally I was 100% PvP centric but also had decent PvE gear since that's an important factor of the game. I used to pvp daily and go on gank runs etc and wouldn't really consider a clan without wars.

Now I'm finding PvE more interesting on a regular basis since open field PvP is dead and has been for a while, the game is so unbalanced it's stupid and scripts/class rule all. I still gear for PvP and have string pvp gear, but clan wars seem more of an annoyance than benefit, I do most PvP in Oly/CoC/Siege.
i focus in hero chat pvp with cheaters.
PvP nowdays is only for scripters. U cant tp out of town without being autotargeted.
is PVP having a spy in parnasus waiting for wartag so anyone can get fully buffed, BR and everything, port, kill and bsoe?

... that's the current open world PVP atm LOL
Give up pvp cause I wont spend thousands on a game to stay competitive.
Its a computer game.
When it turned free I was hero btw.
I do my dailies...my epics...coc and oly when I'm home and feel like it...sieges when I'm home...pvp if it breaks out (meaning i'll join in to help, but not start it)... On alts I'll sometimes fight more lowbie pvp when other idiots ks my mobs or something for fun, but that's about it. My main's in a pve clan, so I don't typically go out looking for a fight.
PVE For lvl up
PVP Always
Mostly PvE for now.
I have some catching up to do since I was gone for a few months, and was still building up gear/levels even before I left.

I like Oly (even if it has some massive issues right now), and I enjoy sieges when it's a pretty even fight. It's nowhere near as fun when you are either steamrolling everyone with no effort, or being steamrolled like you are nothing yourself.

Open PvP used to be way more fun... but not so much now. Most of it seems to be centered around a handful of people being "superstars" porting in with full skills up to drop as many as they can. If they can't kill them all, they bsoe and leave to come back again when skills are up.

Both sieges and open PvP also have some major issues with assist/target scripts and auto item use (way beyond just macro spamming some cp pots).
I am, and have always been, pure PvE. My only PvP involves the Olympiad Starter quest. 10 matches, 2 Giant's Energies, that's all I want :)
I have always been in Mystics a pure PVE Clan, but at some point would like to join a clan that has some of everything, or at least a clan that does RBs.

Unfortunately Mystics only has 2 semi active players now.
Half of the players who are PvE focused, want to have some PvP. Isn't it this game purpose exactly that?. To be able some day to equip your toon well enough to be competitive and go out to search for the fight. The thing is, there are too many overpowered items in this game plus the programs of course, that makes a regular players not able to stand a chance against all those billions. It is not normal, a siege Command Channel of 80+ lvl.99-100 players not being able to kill a single party. My opinion is, the game owners must nerf the overpowered items enough, so the existense of such enormous diference between the players would not be possible, even if you sell your house to buy items. Isn't it a more normal scenario, a party of 7 to be able to kill a single player no matter what items he has? May be I am wrong.
If you are veeery strong and see 2 players have a fight on Parna and they are flagged, leave them alone if they are not your war. It is like if I see 2 10 years old kids fighting for an ice cream, go and kick their ***es cause I can?
And ofc the programs...

Its mostly NCSoft's fault with the way this game has been "Remodeled" in the latest update players getting INSANELY high Exp from Instances alone such as Kartia,Kamaloka etc. the everyday dailies like the one in GF,in Kamael or even the ones in HF are being ignored since it takes time to finish the quest and the exp reward ain't that much which results to this players doesn't need to stay that much out of town to exp and people with wars would just ninja port from Baylor or into CC.

This are things that NCsoft should change in order to give life in PvP in all servers.
1. Add more exp in the daily quests like GF,HF,Kamael and make more daily quests like this so players would actually do them.
2. Move the NPC of Kartia and Kamaloka out of town.
3. With the field raids they should put Timer on it and turn the field raids into pvp zone (and players with the right level could enter that pvp zone if like for example a lvl 99 entered the pvp zone of a lvl 88 raid he/she would have automatically gain raid curse) this would solve not only the issue of bots farming it and would pave way for players in the lower levels to enjoy the raids itself and enjoy the pvp that comes with it.

Whoa whoa whoa! I like this idea! Move those NPCs into general field areas....................hell yeah. And for the xp, I like the idea of boosting those "other" quests. And if not move the NCP for Kartia, then maybe lower the xp/sp on that, but boost the xp/sp on the ones out in the non safe zones. Then ppl would do more. Hell, I'd be more apt to do other things if it was rewarding. I hate Kartia, but it's easy xp/sp so I'd be stupid not to.

Yes !

The items actually are not as OP as they seem. The one exception is topaz, and mostly due to it's massive impact on Olympiad.

Under normal circumstances a fully decked out dark gear party is not going to completely obliterate an entire siege force if that force has any semi decent organization.

The problem is that most are not used to seeing a party like this under "normal" circumstances.
Make no mistake that such a party vs 100+ people is going to most likely have an absurd K/D ratio, especially as the level/gear gap rises, and very possibly demoralize the siege force.

That party being in good communication and knowing how to handle themselves will go VERY far. But there is only so fast skills cast/reset, only so much damage mitigation can do, etc.

What changes the situation is the ability to unerringly target the right people at the right time, and the ability to spam millions, if not hundreds of millions in pots/elixers constantly. And by that I don't mean just the financial ability (which is out of many players capabilities), but the ability for them all to be used simultaneously.
Any average player can macro 3-4 and have them used semi effectively. But more than that is simply impossible due to the limitations in the game. You would need an entire hot bar dedicated to restorative item macros that you constantly are firing off to equal it... and that still won't be as effective.

When the means to do those two things are not working, many of the "pro" PvPers are suddenly too busy to play, or "having a bad day", and are nothing like what they were just a day before.
It's both sad and VERY amusing to see players that would normally wade into a full group of war tags solo suddenly stop and think really hard about if they want to engage those same wartags even when they are themselves now part of a full group instead of solo.
1. Add more exp in the daily quests like GF,HF,Kamael and make more daily quests like this so players would actually do them.

A big plus on that.
if people wanted PvP, there would be pvp,QQ warriors that QQ about pvp and when they die it's "OMGZ IDIED throw a war"

Also the difference between dark gear vs normal is HUGE to the point of almost being pointless to even try to pvp those players. The auto assisting ...etc is just too much.

Dark gear is only REALLY big in 1v1 situations. But when you stack up 3,4,5,6,7:1 or more odds, dark gear alone just won't make that big of a deal.

As for your first point. That's because most people you see PvPing don't want to PvP, they want to win. There's a VERY big difference. I really don't see that many PvPers around anymore. The ones that can have an awesome fight, lose, and still have had an awesome time and say GF, then be ready to come back again for another round not long after.

*edit*
To clarify. The issue with dark gear seeming so OP is not the gear itself (but yes it is good). You will almost never see someone level 99, with bronze/silver wings, +3/4 skills, TW jewels, etc, that's got +3 or 4 dark gear.
The people with dark gear are going to have it +6 or higher, and they will have the rest of the stuff to go along with it.
People associate that with the Dark gear, but it's only one part of the entire setup, part of which includes the class it's used on. Look at all the archer rerolls right now, or all the seers that popped up before, and the nukers before that.

Ppl dont send wars cause they got killed, they send wars to pvp more.
Now in fact is 1 pvp zone - this Parnas.

Is necessary to make the entrance to the Kamaloka 99 and Kartia 95 from PvP zone - NPC for enter put in PvP zone , it will make the game more interesting.
PvP zone in the style of Siege grounds and not Gainax War Zone as there you will actually also do AOE damage/hate etc. on your own clan members that are not in your party

and yes 100% fully support this idea!!

Exactly the same lol!

I can tell you now, having a +8 dark set vs +8 blessed set is a huge difference. The reason you may not see it nearly as much is b/c the fact is, archers & EVIS (1v1) are way broken with skill power right now along with evis perma disable like the seer. Damage isn't being modified and balance to fit dark set and damage reducing item which is an over lying problem.

With a dark set, if the other players don't have a dark weapon or something to increase their "PVP" damage, they will take forever to even hurt me or damage me if im fully buffed.
Ppl dont send wars cause they got killed, they send wars to pvp more.

Wrong, they send war to camp port spots for "pvp" on players not buffed or doing instances.

You want PvP? Shout, or pm me, I'll gladly fight you.
otherwise go enjoy your war "PVP" tell me how "pro" you are.

Thanks!
Interesting how the votes/comments have padded out. I wonder how the same poll would've done 8 years ago.

As for the instance zone ports in PvP areas, I'm sorry but imo that's just plain stupid. It won't encourage pvp, it'll just make more clans avoid wars, people bumrushing with ISS CS, and people qq/slow down playing because they can't get to xp spots.

Imo what would help is boosting open field XP and removing 1h vit pots/runes/xp items or restricting their use again and balancing out the stupidly OP stacked gear/level dmg diff etc....

PvP has never been so unbalanced gear wise as it is now.

Field XP always used to be worth it, even if it's slow.... but now to make things bearable you need all kind of items costing $$.... this turns getting any xp you can to only xping when it's optimal. You get ganked using those then you simply don't bother xping in the field.

Of course scripts are also a massive part, but outside of the stupid bug like buff delay it's not a game design issue.

Boosting open field xp this I agree but removing exp items and crying about the imbalance of stacked gears and levels IMO is just plain stupid, exp items ncoft gets tons of profits from it why would they do that? about gears in any game there will always be people that are overly geared its normal so i don't get why cry about it. pvp is dead ever since ncsoft started system that you all you need to do from lvl 100 is spam twice k95,kamaloka,baylor,AF and use freya scroll and you'll be getting around 6% a day and thats from lvl 100 so in less than 20 days you're already 101..

The good man I'm playing with Lineage2 on C3 and exp exp exp must be earned, before they earned in the catacombs, in the sieges gamers lost 1% exp, then was a difficult game this hour all very, very, very easy to become a lot of freebies is necessary to complicate again
On balance I think is ideal C5 Interlude

PC:Sorry my English, is this really the best of server, I stay here and finish:)

It would be interesting to see a timeline of adding the big XP walls, introduction of nevits etc and the release of the vit item cap and see if it correlated with open field XP amount (Ofc Boosted instance/nerfed field XP has played a part recently).

I don't say remove all vit items, just the sort time ones, give 4h, 12h, 7 day, 1 month etc.... short time really hurts when you get ganked and makes you want to really push the max xp you can get. Makes it not worth stacking tons of items outside of an instance. If you boosted field XP without nerfing XP items then people would level too fast, (soft) cap out and get bored.
I don't play enough to get to top levels, so this game has been PVE for me, except for the rare exception when someone starts some **** and I get fed up and fight back, or if a chaotic player is bothering players.
well i love oly and even won a couple of coc rounds but mostly pvp sucks, too many scripters around for it to be funny at least, anyway at the current game situation there isnt much worth fighting for apart from dragons and siege. Btw hi Ferine from an old erica player :D
I can tell you now, having a +8 dark set vs +8 blessed set is a huge difference.
This got me curious as I always thought the same as Asynja, that stacking of all items makes the big difference, not the Dark Set alone.

A complete Dark Set gives 20% PVP Damage Reduction.
Getting hit for 10.000 without PVP option on set = Getting hit for 8.000 with full dark set.

Dark Weap gives 15% PVP Damage increase.
Hitting someone for 10.000 without PVP opt. on weap = Hitting someone for 11.500 with dark weapon.

But, is that how it actually works IG ?

Well, this time i quote you.
Dont need ppl login just for daily and quit without pvp.

Hey hey, what toon did you play back then?

With the open field PvP/PvE, another massive factor is gear. Gear didn't used to have a huge difference in game, a +6 set and +3 set were different, but not massively, CP/HP pots were heavy and had a reasonable re-use. Now 1 toon in dark gear (+ scripts/pots) can easily wipe a non-dark party (including bloody). 1 strong PvE class in PvE gear can easily out damage and out tank 1-3 parties worth of DPs.

You try and balance a game where you added gear that players have spent thousands on, but in turn that gear has made 1 character able to beat the strength of 7 characters. It's not even a linear scale either, miss a couple of items and the difference gap grows huge. Add class/buff imbalance on that too and you've got major issues.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at with my last post. A dark set IS nice... make no mistake about it.
But if someone had just a Dark set (no +8, or even +6) it's really not going to be that big of a boost.

The issue is that all these players downing entire parties + don't "just" have a dark set. They have pvp belts, +8 or higher dark sets, brooch jewels, the right jewels they need for their class, talismans, shirts (usually better than the istina/oct ones many have), 2 sa hair pieces, sub/dual class skills, finished tats, and an oe ++++ dark or at least blessed or bloody weapon.

That's on top of a pile of pots to spam and likely levels over many of the people they are fighting.

Take away a few of those things (aside from the pots) and they will still roll over the majority of people on a given server. And they continually work on improving the toon as they are able, or as things are released that are beneficial.

Your average 100 + player in the game may have... what, 20-30 Bil in gear/items built up over years? And that's certainly not everyone.
Most of these beastly PvP toons have, at minimum, over double that, not counting consumables, with many having 10x or more in gear/items.

That is, in many ways, "working as intended". I think the biggest change they could make to re-balance it to where a massive zerg can still kill these super strong characters (with a lot of deaths of course) is to stop adding more and more healing consumables.

It used to be you had 2 kinds of CP pots and a few HP potions.
Then they added more of those (the rainbow spring cp pots). Then more HP items (rice cakes, etc). Then several kinds of elixers, and then more HP items, and more CP/HP items, etc.
And not all of them share the same cooldowns. Meaning that someone with the magical ability to use a dozen + items all the time is at a massive advantage over someone using a normal macro (that can really only spam 3-4 kinds effectively at most).

If they cut down all of these restorative items to just a small handful (really 3... CP, HP, MP) and had a cool down long enough to make them not spammable, you would see many fights turn out quite differently.
so many memories :D i was your enemy and i joined your ally because my friends scammed joykilla, he even flagged on them and got a pk, eventually dropping his antharas earring :D redcap SE

Friend played a domi called PATIFE? I remember that happening, that thing was priceless at the time. I'd say like 500b in todays adena, but even that seem too low since back then it was literally impossible to give a value.

@Assnija

Yeah I agree, would be interesting to see what pvp would be like if CP pots changed back to how they were, with shared 1s delays between use etc.
As for the instance zone ports in PvP areas, I'm sorry but imo that's just plain stupid. It won't encourage pvp, it'll just make more clans avoid wars, people bumrushing with ISS CS, and people qq/slow down playing because they can't get to xp spots.

you gotta agree that for Dragons/Beleth/Trasken/Gainax it does make sense thou, right ? :)
you gotta agree that for Dragons/Beleth/Trasken/Gainax it does make sense thou, right ? :)

Actually I don't think it does (Gainak yes others no). They should be buried deep in general field areas with no summoning, not Peace Zones or PvP zones. I do like the old style 20 minute port window as Asynja mentioned though, no "Fastest Script First" as it currently is.

I think both PvP clans and non-PvP clans should have reasonable chance to get the raids. With the imbalance of PvP and abundance of scripters having NPCs in siege grounds just turns it into another Gainak... we all know how that works.

Personally I'm a massive fan of Guerilla war/dirty/grief style PvP. Put in some mechanisms where people can gank and grief each other in different ways and the smartest wins.

For Example, someone opens instance, 20 minute window opens where tons of mobs spawn in a big maze like (catacomb) area, small pools of mobs spawn like AF mobs. These drop the quest items people need to enter. PvE players can try and just straight out kill the mobs, PvP players try kill mobs but also stun, DOT, debuff, para, flag, take out healer etc. Having a maze splits up forces so some players are likely to flag back and maybe start wars.
Now Mostly PvE + siege, used to be pure PvP, but given up due to reasons (say).
Reasons: Tired of ppl with 10ms reaction time if u know what i mean, and NC doing nothing to stop it  Even tagless chars on oly have anti-clone scripts nowadays
"Now Mostly PvE + siege, used to be pure PvP, but given up due to reasons"

Same like the guy above , now pvp is who have faster, better, assist "fingers",the "pro" do anything today to win at this game.No fun aynmore.

Gainax War is bad game design for 4 reasons:
1. it's a "free for all" 7vs7 zone where you can even kill your clanmembers by accident if not in party
2. no pvp score / crp effects
3. the abuse of the "savezone" in the middle
4. which idiot made it the only main steady source of Dark Stones, should be that those fragments/stones be that Dark or Bloody drop from all 100+ mobs at a low rate to also encourage open field XP..

Siege zone is better because it is Clan focused and generally rewards are for the whole Clan - this is a MMO not a game where 4ppl who can magic box 14~21 chars get stupid rich due to the above bad game design..

The other ideas/suggestions of yours sound fun I'll agree but I've seen it to often that players end up PK'ing either on purpose or by accident and the game penalties is very very harsh on having 3+ PK's so that would need to be reworked as well for your ideas to work imo and sadly enough we both know Korea will never be lenient about PK's..

restoring the old 20min window free for all porting inside with max limit of 200 or 300ppl so without the need of a CC should be enough to increase the fun as then even crazy PVP parties could port inside trying to gank pplz - or something comparable as the Kelbim raid where at stage 2 anyone 100+ can port inside and either help or disturb the raid :)
Reading back over this, that gives me an awesome idea for raid pvp that will of course never happen.

Leave the instances like they are now (mostly).
This goes for trasken, the dragons, etc. Any "end game" instanced raid.

Once they reach half hp, or stage 2, or whatever marker you care to mention.

The raid will open like Kelbim and allow people of the appropriate levels to enter.

Once inside the raid there are 3 options.
1) They can attack the force doing the raid to try and make them fail.
2) They can help or do nothing.

And the third.
There is a totem or device that appears at this stage, if you attack it, the raid starts getting harder.
This won't increase drops or rewards in any way, just make it more difficult.

If the raid is failed at this stage, then it is gone till reset.

This means that the people attacking the device can try and make the raid force fail, or they need to be sure that they don't make the raid harder than they are able to kill.

The original force then either needs to pvp to force the others out and off the device, or deal with the increased difficulty.
sounds like fun :D

It certainly has the potential to be, provided there is any competition for the boss.
Because people want the drops from the raid, it's unlikely that the people killing them would stand to have the raids ruined for several cycles at a time due to interference.

If it's made to fail, after a time or two it's guaranteed that the people killing the dragon will either stop trying to kill it, or start trying to kill the group raising the difficulty. The next group trying to kill it will then face the same issue. At the very least, it leaves the potential for the boss to be contested.

The difficulty should also be tied to the DPS into the device as well, that way you can't just have one person sneak in and press a button. It would have to be a large and/or stacked group hitting it to increase the difficulty.

That would be a nice change to break away from the current "fastest click with x number in cc wins" while still needing a fairly competent force to steal it away. It'd be much more like the old days where you didn't just have to port in with enough to kill the boss... you'd need enough to ensure you could deal with others in there interfering with you as well.

Sounds interesting, though I'd have it spawn at say 30% HP left on boss and instance always be available to re-open until the boss has been fully killed.

Possibly have it the other way round, anyone can port in until boss is 30% HP then what's in is in, no more port ins.

On another note:

It's interesting how the poll has gone. Only 15% of people voting in the fully decked out PvP categories, ~23% if you include the mix but not stacked gear option. over 75% of voters playing mainly for PvE and not bothering as much with PvP. 40% voting pure PvE.

Back 4+ years ago I didn't even understand why people would play L2 mainly for PvE, ignoring PvP... I wonder how the poll would have turned out back then.
where is p2w focused option?

It depends on who is voting, which would depend exactly when you posted this, and what forum. If you posted this on l2O or L2blah for instance, you would have likely gotten a larger % of PvP related answers. If you posted here when either of those 2 were in full effect, I'd imagine the majority would be non PvP options.

Even back then tons of people were PvE only. You had some pretty hardcore dedicated RP types, as well as the more social "just playing to hang with people and do things" types, and there were lots of them.
There was also a time before oly was a thing. When all PvP outside of the handful of arenas involved XP loss (no 100% healer rez, no brez).
At siege yesterday I made a quick video to show what difference a couple of items stacked does.....

Now put that defense on a stacked DD with tons of pots and scripts... and make 3-4 parties of them. I still get plowed by fully stacked/scripted toons.
