We have a big problem in Lineage2.
I am gonna show you the problem and how to solve it.
The big problem of lineage2 is BOREDOM.
Yeah...the game has become so boring now. People log in, do their daily instances for a couple of hours and there is just not much to do after....I mean people can go grind for leveling but the EXP gained is so little, it's just not really worth their time and nothing drops from hunting anymore either.
So can we do something about this?
I believe we can.
Just improve the item drops from field hunting like good old times so that people will have something to look forward to! and it won't be so boring after all! Remember the good old times when people used to spend hours exp-grinding and just when everyone was falling asleep....all of a sudden a dark helm dropped!? and everyone made instant 10M on the spot!!!? Remember the excitement??? I think this is exactly what this game needs at the moment. So yeah Instance leveling can still stay superior than field grinding for the busy people but as long as we have good item drops back, the game play will be filled with excitement and anticipation again! I think people wouldn't really mind relatively slow field leveling either as long as they get rich just by playing the game...watching their adena grow...
But what's the problem here? Why hasn't it been made into reality already?
Why? The answer?
---> BOTS! Yeah....with the current Free-to-play system, if the item drop increases, we will just have more bots! But there is a cure! It's the re-introduction of Monthly-subscription system!
YEAH! If they have to pay for each and every bot accounts, I don't think botters will be botting that easily; and you know something? If you combine the P2P(Pay-to-play) with Increased item drops, this can kill botting like 99%. The botters for RMT will suddenly find themselves not making any profit at all but losing money instead. It's very simple. let's say right now 100M = $4, but if we increase item drops 10 times then the equation becomes 1B = $4 and botters will need to bot 10 times more to make the same profit and with the proper monthly fee, this can stop the RMT altogether. At some point the monthly subscription fee for botters will start exceeding the RMT profits they make.
Well, not all RMT to be honest cuz we will still be doing some Nstore shopping...LOL. but with the Nstore we will be supporting the game at least.
I know I am just one guy writing here but I believe if enough people repeat after me over and over, I believe we can change things.
You ruined the game for yourself, and for many of us too, so thank you for your advices but i dont think the "community" needs them. You beat the game with your money, (must be proud of yourself) and now you want to privatize it more. Aren't you american btw? Because this kind of behavior reminds me a lot of muricas mentality. And all of this because you are afraid that your pixels die. You want challenge? Create a new toon, dont buy anything for real money, play with ppl. If you dont want to do this, you can move on, because -as i said before- you have already beat the game. The community has all the power to make this a good game any time, yet the thing is, that they ( "we" ) dont seem to realize it, you feel the need to be controlled so that you dont face the responsibility that your actions should have. If you understand what i meant here you should know what to do. Now this little thinking of things might seem to be a little like the real world problems we face, and guess what, both "worlds" have the same players.
I only replied, because you showed self-critique before, and just to clarify it: it is not an attack, but a mirror i showed you.
I like the idea of open field grinding being more rewarding. Some days I just plain don't feel like doing any instances. I sometimes would rather get a group of peeps together and go wack for a while somewhere, or even just drag my ISS along and gather up some xp the old fashioned way, but the reality is..it's like you said, not worth it. The adena isn't really an issue for me as I've never really picked it up anyways. But a full drop here and there would be great, granted it's got any value...I mean, I don't want Theca gaiters if you know what I mean.. But also, for the shots spent and the time invested, the xp/sp sucks too unless you juice up with boosters etc, which I don't really believe in anyways......If I knew I could go out and grind in an assortment of different areas for an hour and come back with as much xp/sp as I would get in a K95/CC/Baylor run, I'd be all over it...my game time would probably extend farther into a day if I had nothing better to do too.
As for a subscription...well, I don't like that idea so much. It wouldn't kill off the bots. All it would realistically do is raise the price of adena from the bots...they'd still be here botting away and selling their adena regardless. They've always been here, and they always will be. I wish there was a real off switch for them, but there just isn't. All we can do is b***h about them.

P2P won't save it.
We had P2P... and we still had bots. We had them all over.
It's a simple matter of math. If the money earned is more than the money spent, they will still spend it. And the way things are right now, they do.
I also challenge NC's mentality of "if we make the drops bad enough there will be less bots". Because they have, in fact, only increased the bots. They make it harder to make money, harder to equip your characters, harder to even make enough to just subsist off of.
Yet at the same time add more and more things that cost adena into the game.
NC is the one fueling the bots by promoting crazy adena spending and almost no way to get it.
You're either shelling out money to RMT, or you're shelling out money to the NCstore to sell items for adena from people that got it via less than legitimate means. This is especially true for newer players.
Not everyone started this game 10+ years ago and is sitting on a stockpile of "old money" that they have used to build their fortune on.
They need to turn the game back to like it was just after GoD launched.
LOTS of GM activity. Not a day went by where there was not an active GM on the server making their presence known. Bots were banned hard and fast. You did NOT see bots outside of the starter areas almost ever, and they didn't last long.
All players were able to put together basic gear for their level without a lot of effort. Nothing phenomenal... just decent. Trying to get an awesome set of gear took awhile and/or cost a fair bit. Want uber gear? You paid the price and/or took the risk.
Every last player easily made enough in a day to cover hunting expenses as well as save a bit on the side.
Once the GM's left, the bots started creeping back. Then with every blow to drops and quests rewards, there was another explosion of bots in response.
Now hardly anything drops or spoils in the vast majority of the game, and most hunting areas are playgrounds for bots who play nearly 24/7 to collect the pitiful rewards in enough bulk to actually get something from it.

Yup, and as the nature of the game, which is highly economic dependant of every player loot/drop/adena/mats gained, getting the basics ruined like it is right now, just kills the game, nothing can me obtainable, they even introduced crafting packs cause of the sake of it, its impossible to gear yourself by just grinding in your level zone, and the higher it gets the worse it gets.
But who knows, maybe IT IS intended to be that way so when a L2 store event is introduced with all this possible rewards people just spend crazy ammounts of money for that low chance of getting something they cant get in game like a normal game would reward its player base.
They just have to make prestige pack usefull. If prestige pack had a 100% xp/sp/drop/adena/whatever rune more people would buy it. Do it like the EU servers where you can have some nice features while suscribed.
Make adena no tradable, and put bound equipment another time but account bound, cant unseal or sold, increase adena rate on open field(no raid bosses).
bots doing the same but legit people take some interesting to do on open field, some bound equip and adena to continue doing things.
And yes some instances high level kalamoka for example a bit better drop, its unfair k95 drops better than this
and the best way is erase ******* of the game, but this not occur
Its my opinion at the moment the game is going worse, need some change

It would take massive, massive changes to make L2 into essentially what WoW was (no idea if it still is). If you make adena non tradable, and all equipment bound to your account. No one would get anything almost ever.
The only people with gear would be the handful owning raids because that's about the only thing that drops anything with any reliability.
It would take a massive overhaul of the entire quest, drop, and craft system for that... as well as changing the money sinks. I just don't see them putting that kind of effort into this game at this point.

Yeah, there is that possibility. Now that I think about it, what could be potentially worse is Subscription + Low drops! LOL
I mean now it's like 'Free + Low drops' but it can go from 'Subscription + Higher drops' to 'Subscription + Low drops over time,' which is worse than anything.

Making everything Character BOUND including Adena...I dunno...sounds a lot like 'World of WarCraft' to me; and even in WOW, Gold is Tradable.
This is OFF the topic but how did you come up with the name "SHOMA"???
I have an Ertheia Seer/Evas saint toon named "Shoma" on chronos.
Gold is indeed tradable in World of Warcraft. PvE items obtained through any method except Personal Loot can be traded as well for a 2 hour window if they are a soulbound item. There are a small number of items that do not bind until equipped.
In all cases PvP and PvE gear is very easy to obtain. Drop rates are not an issue that one must contend with.
As to Lineage II and it's problems, dying MMOs are happening everywhere. I would say the vast majority who play any kind of MMO, play those cheap crappy mobile ones like Clash of Clans.
The desktop and even console MMO market is a dying beast. The genre has gotten very stale as developers are afraid to try truly new things out. Many of the older established companies, including NC Soft, have long since become apathetic to making any real worth while changes and updates to try and breath new life in.
They will keep the games as they are until they die an horrid death and no more profit can be squeezed from them for the sake of their shareholders.
You want to save this game? Or any other MMO for that matter? You gotta either buy the IP away from them, or buy the companies themselves and take em private. Gotta go the route that Robert Space Industries is going with crowd funded game development and get back to the "Indie" roots of all gaming to find new and exciting ideas that can bring truly new experience back into MMOs. Then and only then will you see the excitement that first attracted millions upon millions to them.
This is OFF the topic but how did you come up with the name "SHOMA"???
I have an Ertheia Seer/Evas saint toon named "Shoma" on chronos. jejej, shoma is the name of forum account ^^, i like this name because a character of a game, Rival schools you know? ^^

It would take a massive overhaul of the entire quest, drop, and craft system for that... as well as changing the money sinks. I just don't see them putting that kind of effort into this game at this point. Thats true, its and opinion, its frustrating to see the only way to grow in this game is cheat and bot, in the others games of ncsoft happend the same, nowadays this is the reality no more play to fun and play hours to achiveve thinks with your effort.
some unspoken truth about bots to consider:
-they are L2 players..some are very good players
-they will find a solution to make adena and sell for real money no matter antibot program will install ( a simple google search will prove my word).
They will be gone from game when adena will be gone too.
In the next update 1-85 will be much easier to get, some quests and puff 85...that mean GOG and Fairy will be crowded with more wynns...and for wynn dont really need to use ****/bot, you need only a good mouse/keyboard with programable buttons.
The point is game dont advance in direction that "we want".
Another thing...there are nothing free on this world but still L2 is free to play...that dont mean "free to performance" ...again, that mean "free to play".
For all who want performance and cant sleep night becouse they are afraid some war will enter baium or queen ant or whatever...unfortunatly you need to pay ...to pay a lot...to pay value of a new car...or a small house.
So, stop qq on forum...NCsoft dont eat air...they need usd to put food on table. And no, they will not make this game "free to perform"!
The only real solution is to hire active administrators whose sole purpose is to seek and destroy those violating the EULA and TOS. I have said this in every MMO I have ever played, which has been many.
You can either actively patrol the servers and ban them on the spot as you find them, or;
You can actively patrol the servers and mark them for deletion on some recurring schedule, like quarterly bans.
In either case, you need a live human patrolling the game. A police force. Kind of like real life.
Well the whole point is: "gimme money from the mobs"....
That's kind of impossible,if you just would have taken a look where the tendencies in l2 are heading you would notice that the main goal in that game is to get money from it,which is reasonable, cause this why they still run it. Adena drop rate is falling all the time, used to be a good spot at antharas lair, where you could get a lot of money, but no xp. Gone forever....Epic's drop rate is going through the roof, all atempts to bring back to life crafting or spoiling have epicly failed. So the only way to make money is to use market and its actually doable, another way to make money is to sell exp from hunting zones like land of chaos, where you can lvl up ppl from 93 to 100 in a week,or powerlvl ppl in bloodyswamps for money....etc.But you want them to chew it and put it in your mouth, someone do the job for you,and you gather the fruits:) not gonna happen....
If the game became boring, nothing will solve it,you just play too much ,take a break:) relax, the money grab is not gonna stop. All that concerns ppl who are running this game is how to stop others from making money on it,thats all, dont be naive:)
And bots, nothing can solve bot problem, unless there is gm in the game 24/7 imho, but what do I know,im just another bum in the game who is just enjoying it from time to time:)
BTW, I think the way ncsoft chose to fight mobs is to make nccoin more valuable,so ppl will buy "safe way" adena for the same price, bots become useless if you need thousands of them to make any money I think
Isn't it why they put R gems in l2 store for so cheap? Which is clearly affects the economy nccoin vs adena
I agree with what Tiffi wrote about active administrator online taking care of business. Trying to use automated rules - such as chat restrictions just don't seem to work. I will admit that those that cheat the system are pretty creative and can and will figure out how to get around restrictions.
Although I would support a monthly subscription, as others have noted, there were plenty of bots back when we paid to play. So that is not the sole answer but it might help. This new free to play system where botters can make endless supply new toons seems to make banning them pointless. They make they as fast as they can be banned. NcSoft need to come up with something that gives the company the upper hand instead of being constantly overwhelmed .
I support boosting field hunting as Dreamseeker suggested.

+1 on this. Cause of the store, a 10$ subscription on prestige 20$/month with prestige pack lets say would be cool enough!

the only correct post in this entire thread, only truth can be read in this post.
f2p/p2w ppl and those insane ncbuyers ruined the game, if ncwest would turn back subscription method they would rollback/erase all ur accounts.

I don't know who the OP is so cannot comment as to how much "truth" there is to his post, however as far as community reviving Lineage II. . .
Will never happen. Too many feel "burned" by the harshness of the game and the absolutely terrible responses NC Soft had to the games manifest problems.
I played this game from open beta to Chronicle 4. Then I stopped for a long time, then about 8 years ago I started again off and on until about 6ish years ago(?). Not sure when I stopped again exactly, but was shortly after Devianne, Bartz, and some other server got merged into Chronos. Now I'm back just chillin while I wait for other games to roll out new updates (read next WoW expansion). Been back about 10 days now, and I will tell you this, all the original problems that killed this game and sabotaged it are still present.
Bottom line is, to get a good Lineage game, it needs a complete rebuild from the ground up. Sorta like making an entirely new game. A game with a serious lessons learned analysis to help them avoid the same pitfalls that took this game from 500k+ subscribers (not counting bots) at the beginning to the less than 25k players world wide including Korea that they have now (including the bots).
Maybe one day NC Soft can develop a game and then not **** all over it. But, until they do, nothing will fix anything.
The game already died under pay to play.
And it died back in the day when there weren't that many big, high budget free to play games. Now it would stand NO chance.
Free to play revived it and is what's keeping the player base above abysmal. ( tho NC with its idiotic pay to win L2 store sapped 90% of the player base straight out )
You make it pay to play, you cut off 90% of the remaining players, take away years of their time invested and pretty much all future potential players.
Also, the whole point of pay to play games is balance and equal opportunity for everyone paying the subscription. The L2 store and L2 store warriors have already completely destroyed any hope for balance for this game. Making this a completely pointless notion.
Phasing out pay to win items, introducing events where every player would have an equal opportunity, increasing drop rates, and having a 24/7 team who would ban the bots before they even leave talking island would be a good way to start rebuilding the player base and keeping the ones already playing, from leaving.
The only way I see pay to play working, and I would be the first to sign up, is a single new server, with a monthly subscription, with NO L2 Store, good drop rate, good quest rewards, heavy bot regulation and no transfers to this server from other free to play servers.
People who don't want to pay, or like pay to win can enjoy the free to play servers, while people who want good balance and fair game, would enjoy the new pay to play server.

He only stated the truth. You say there were 9,000 players when Chronos got merged. That didn't last long. I know for a fact I wasn't the only one who stopped playing shortly after that. I know, I was there.
9,000 people is TINY TINY compared to what this game had in the transition from free-to-pay open beta to pay-to-play Prelude back in March of 2004. I believe the total subs easily broke over 500,000 active players at some point between Chronicle 1 and Chronicle 4. I know, I was there.
There have ALWAYS been hefty numbers of non-English or English-as-second-language players in this game. The bots in Lineage II used to tell us to "rang rang". And don't get me started on the Greeks. In many ways I found them to be more disrespectful than any other group. I know, I was there.
Side Note: Today the Greeks I have met have all been very nice and modestly eloquent.
There was nowhere near 9k players on any server at the end of p2p.
Why do I know this? Because I was there. Every single town was a ghost town. Like... maybe a dozen shops at most on any given day. Sieges were a joke. Standing around for 2 hours collecting fame. No castles were flipping, no one was doing anything of any note.
Were just a bunch of us grinding out 85.100% and getting all our subs to 80.100%, then flipping over to some alts to do the same... because there was nothing left to do, and not enough people. I was lucky enough to have mostly a full party that I played with left.
The only thing you said that was close to correct was about the bots.
The population crashed so bad, and so many left, that bots were gone.
There was no more money left to be made in L2, so they abandoned it.
You couldn't find a train anywhere. At best you might find a handful of real players afking their toons. But they were not banned, not until GoD was on the horizon. Then NC was active... they spun up the GM's and started hammering bots hard. Of the tiny number of people left, everyone was afraid to do anything for fear of getting their accounts banned.
That continued for a good amount into GoD... but I've already talked about that part. The playerbase absolutely has a hand in the destruction of l2. But it's NC that provided them the tools, incentive, and apathy to flourish.
i m from the time we used to use kaifas to check status, and goharu to talk about stuff, i m not a lier like u. so let me start the facts:
see, almost the number i said, not even close the **** u were saying.
this is one of the few last records we can access today, and looks like on that day(proly night) naia were with half of his population, and i know why cos i was there, naia was a intensive pvp server, so if no pvp back there ppl wont logged in, plus this was a day register from chronos, so it might been night on naia, ppl were sleeping, cos backthere it was a euro server, not this br/latino land we see today.
i m talking about things i saw, u are here just talking **** about things u never knew about. every decent l2 player know that if a server starts getting more then 6300 players online problems would start, like it did with that first tersi light event, it made ncwest give free xfers to magmeld latino camp http://www.lineage2.com/en/news/events/server-transfers-to-magmeld.php so I'll say again, if you werent here, stop talking **** about things you do not know. roflmao 500k players! big lol on it! u guys sounds like another delusional guy i saw on another thread, u can check on google ncwest staff talking about 25k client download when l2 announce the game was moving to free to play, so that 25k was the max it would hit, and we saw that back when every server status was hiting 4k+, but that time is gone, thx free to play, thx pay 2 win, thx bots, thx non english speakers flooding suport, thx nerfs cos os bots and the list goes on.
so it is simple as it gets, back there on pay 2 play we had 9k subscribe players=ppl were equal, one guy with only 1 toon was able to reach end game content the same way one guy with 5 toons (u can check on google the l2 census made before free to play, here a forum record about it http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=215487 the results were post on site, i ll not search for the results, but u can do it, if my memory isnt that bad, i remember that from this 9k players we had less then 1500 lv85 100%xp). today on free to play we have less the 7.5k and i bet that game is being kept alive cos of 1k ppl like the op, ppl like ferine, vood, and-oush and whatever pay 2 win br/latino u can read on hero voice. just go to face book and search Lineage 2 - Chronos [Compra ~ Venda ~ Trocas] that makes me laugh all day.
i have administration degree, to me is simple when i see these pay 2 win events, they comes in cicles, ncwest didnt earned what they need, one wild pay to win event appears (Ash Ketchum from l2 must catch it), if u guys didnt get it by now, u should start watching over it.
so u insane ncoin buyers, pay 2 win ppl, ruined the game together with ncsoft free to play policy, that wasn't the games fault, were you and ncsoft, l2 was once a great game, today is just a pve casual game with 1 or 2 pvp grief history once in a while.
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. GoD was the beginning of F2P, and there was a MASSIVE influx of people.
Even your "highest number" on Oct was still 5k. Just before GoD was about to hit, and when GM's became more active and got people interested in trying it again.
Look back at the times earlier. For almost the entire year it was never higher than 3k people online at most. And was often closer to 2k.
That's a FAR cry from 9k people, which is what your claim was. The servers never got even close to that until after GoD.
I played actively every single day. I was on to see what was there. I'm not talking out of my *** when I am saying Chronos was a ghost town. Giran was the only town with shops, and it was virtually empty. All the other towns were even more empty. There were nothing but a handful of people anywhere at most.
P2P L2 was dying hard. The ONLY reason more people came back was the upcoming GoD expansion, and the F2P model made the playerbase absolutely explode.
Could it have been done differently? Absolutely. But GoD was a great update aside from the class combination garbage. But from a player experience perspective, it's the best the game has been for a very long time.
As for your other arguments... Please. 1 person could get to 85 same as another? Not even remotely. How many people never saw 85 until GoD? Quite a few.
There were no awesome XP instances, no XP runes, no high XP solo areas.
You either had a party, or you ground your way up at a snails pace. People have NEVER been equal in l2. Someone gets higher level, better gear, more OE'd gear, more element, more Skills ++, epics, etc, etc, etc.
The only thing that's happened now is that divide is even greater... both in terms of the number of things you can add on top of someone else... and the fact that a good number of them are NC store items that you can't get without someone giving up money to NC.
Go watch some old PvP videos in pre GOD, you will still see single characters soloing full groups, single parties wiping out siege forces (hello anakim squad!), and more.
I have played l2 since pretty close to its start in NA, and while I love the game, I don't have nostalgia for the problems it had in the past.

edited cos bustercaseY didnt like my tone XD
on november 30 2011, game went to free.
AND NOW LETS TALK ABOUT UR MISTAKES
i knew u would try see other dates on the web archive, the machine record SOME of the dates and as u can see u cant find dates before 2010, if u saw something on 2k or 1k, it could be due to server maintenance or any Y reasons as i listed one, night time at naia.
u even didnt the math from chronos 5330 and naia 2663 (night time) to a total of 7993, with naia on day time it ll be around 4400 more or less.
THE NUMBERS COMBINE FROM NAIA AND CHRONOS WERE 9K+/-, AND NOTHING U WANNA SAY LL CHANGE THAT. THIS WAS THE TRUE PLAYERBASE, NOTHING LL CHANGE THAT.
U didnt even search or watch anything about the l2 census, cos i think u never heard about it, the census tell us the numbers of active accounts back there and in what lv range those accounts were.
we had 9k+/- active accounts with time card/serial keys and from those, less than 1500 were lv85 with 100% as i said......AND telling u that u have the same oportunity as me to reach end game content isnt the same thing to say that u and me ll be on the same lv dude nor that u ll be able to kill 20 toons alone like me.
i came to retail with 7 friends, get join with another 5 being in a skype with 16 in the end, and none of them reach end game lv or end game gear like me, back there, i also gift some of them moirai sets and dyn weapons, when i was in vorpal1800, vesper weapon and full boss set(made this amount of adena with LOVE PIG EVENT where ppl could get as many apigas they want as long they farm for it not buy with nccoins).
and just to pinpoint another fact, months before they announced that l2 would turn into free to play, they introduce double xp, nevits bonus recharge, full buffs miscellaneous, and vitality refresh event itens. i start being lv 1 without 0 knowledge of the update i join it, end up on lv85 100%xp with all end game gear without have to make a buffer, i always had my only one toon.
talking about 1 dude killing 20 or more alone, THIS IS WAS THE REAL L2, U JUST PROVE ANOTHER POINT...... ppl on boss, br101, nova, ambereye, deathwish, reddogs, bregan, olympianguards and other clans ll remember Ebil and fayol cps, killing 80+ at sieges. that was normal, that was l2, u beat ppl cos u are better than others not because u can buy more nccoin like is today.
giran always had way more private stores back in that day, when the auction house was add to the game the number of private stores went down.
u can ask yidao about USD numbers, since u dont know the numbers, maybe he can tell u. and......ohhhhh boy, this line of urs
Asynja: __" But from a player experience perspective, it's the best the game has been for a very long time."
suuuuuuuuuuuure......... hell yeah it is.......... roflmao, if that was that great why the hell they give us back LINEAGE 2 CLASSIC????
Sadly the link directly from NC Soft for their subs no longer works. However, you can see for yourself I know what I am talking about.
You keep comparing numbers from 2011 to numbers from 2004-5. You must remember there were VERY few MMORPGs back then.
i m not talking about 2004 or 2009, i just join retail at 2010, so i m talking about stuff that happend between 2010 and free to pla, btw i dont even know why i quoted u in that my post.
Your initial post was edited or removed. You stated that SERVERS had 9k players before GoD, and not in the heyday, but right up before GoD hit.
Which is total BS.
MAYBE 9k accounts with active players on both Chronos and Naia over the span of a week. Sure. Some only log in weekends, etc.
But that's a very, very different argument. Your initial statement that Chronos had 9K, which you've conveniently removed at some point, is completely untrue. At best Chronos, at it's most active just before GoD hit, had half that, and likely less than half of that.
And that was after many months of activity falling to abysmally low levels on Chronos. I won't even try and speak for Naia, I've heard it was the same there, but I didn't play there.
But Chronos was not a bastion of activity. It was only at the end, when GM's were around almost every single day, banning bots, handing out buffs, setting the server XP rates higher, etc that activity picked up... and that increase was nothing compared to the change in activity GoD brought.
And I said GoD. Not what followed.
You obviously haven't read what I put earlier in this very thread. GoD, as in the update specifically named GoD, not tauti, not glory days, not underground or Lindvior or any other update that came after.
They have certainly added some cool stuff after, but they have fundamentally obliterated players ability to both level at a good pace and be reasonably self sufficient and gear themselves while playing the game a reasonable amount of time.

i didnt edited anything, as u can see one of ur posts had been deleted too. and i never said 9k only on chronos, i said that the playerbase on pay to play era was 9k(thats a fact from 2010 till start of free to play), u have read wrong if u understand other way, i even said that no server can handle more than 6300 player, cos from 6k online it start crashs, dc ppl, npc server lags, send mensages like server on full capacity u cant login and many others stuff starts happen, and i even use the example of the free xfer do magmeld.
and again, from the minute i logged in chronos for the first time, there were already gms online, no adena spammer in town if just one appeared, they banned him within 30 minutes top. everytime i needed suport i got a reply withim 30 minutes top, and not a code msg, just real replies. back there if someone scam other person, they retrieve the loot back to the owner, stuff like that stop the minute game went free to play. most os the 25k client download was made for ppl that dont know what they would see here, to prove that point, u can check google for msgs like l2 oficial isnt good, they killed l2, isnt l2 anymore, i hate this update, and stuff like that.
thats why they start geting back the old game, with god updade anyone that just/farm lv could get his r99 gear from the instances without have any trouble, 0 dificult, thats was easy, game went tooo easy that if u did fortuna a few time u would have all the r95 gear u need by the lv93....... thats why they start remove thing to make game the old and good game again and today we have the new ppl that dont even know the old game, talking about drop/adena rates and other stuff. open ur eyes the rates back pay 2 pay was SUPER LOW(most of the players back in pay 2 pay reach lv 79 with commom gear A grade roflmao), i farm at the same camp for 8 months back into pay 2 play, for 8 months i just saw 1 moirai heavy armor drop from the monster i killed for 8 months.
all the legit player were gone, tired of bots and pay 2 win dudes, the only ppl here are the ones who spent a significant amount of money and dont wanna lose it. with this race change service im thinking on come back, cos now i have money, i can go easy on game without spending 20 hours just to walk head by head with the money ppl.
game was better before free to play thats for sure.
The only real solution is to hire active administrators whose sole purpose is to seek and destroy those violating the EULA and TOS. I have said this in every MMO I have ever played, which has been many.
You can either actively patrol the servers and ban them on the spot as you find them, or;
You can actively patrol the servers and mark them for deletion on some recurring schedule, like quarterly bans.
In either case, you need a live human patrolling the game. A police force. Kind of like real life.
I totally agree with you on this. They should really hire 1 person patrolling the game servers. It doesn't have to be 1 person per server every day but 1 person patrolling 1 server a day should be enough to do the job.
This is an interesting idea...hmm...1 server designated for P2P only! It sounds very interesting!

Once again, the situation you are speaking about was a TINY fraction of time before GoD hit. The GM's increased activity for about a month, maybe a month and a half, before they launched F2P and GoD.
You cannot base the YEARS they neglected the game beforehand on that tiny little sliver of time.
Both models (F2P, P2P) would work fine if the GM's were as active as they were in that slice of time... and the beginning of GoD and F2P shows that.
L2 at that time had no bots I could see anywhere for a significant period of time. GM's were all over the servers. They were providing buffs, talking to players, banning bots, and full engaged on the forums.
Were there some issues? Of course. The class consolidation sucked. But the game itself was the most alive, most fair, and most enjoyable to play it had been since the early prelude-c2/c3 days.
Turning a blind eye to how good the game was at the start of F2P to only base it on the BS it's become now is just as bad as ignoring the years of neglect the P2P servers had because the last couple months (at most) before GoD they were actually doing what they should have been doing all along.
In either case the "good" parts were a minuscule sliver of time compared to the rest.
If L2 had remained more like it was at the launch of GoD... and more importantly, if NC had remained that way, the game would be in a very different state right now.
I totally agree with you on this. They should really hire 1 person patrolling the game servers. It doesn't have to be 1 person per server every day but 1 person patrolling 1 server a day should be enough to do the job.

Need a minimum of 2 people (different shifts) per server. Otherwise the bots will figure out when they can and cannot run and adjust accordingly. The most important periods are during sieges and Oly as there are multiple places to keep track of to catch people using PvP assists.
And the server idea won't work. Look at Zaken. Perfect chance for them to make a good impression and start doing things like they should have. But they didn't. What makes you think they would do any differently with yet another new server?
You cannot base the YEARS they neglected the game beforehand on that tiny little sliver of time.

The fact that you need GM events to spur life into the game is one of the surest signs of a dead game. When the game is healthy and doing well you don't need GM participation outside of rules enforcement and honest assistance to those who encounter a problem that cannot be remedied on their own or with the help of fellow players. (Example: Buddy of mine on Zaken wishes to disband his clan and the game client won't let him. He submitted a ticket and said it would happen with maintenance 2 days ago. It hasn't, so now he has a new ticket open.)
NC Soft killed this game day 1 in open beta when they failed to enforce their own EULA and TOS. We just didn't know it yet at that time.
Nothing can save Lineage 2 now. Best hope is to learn from past mistakes and pray Lineage Eternal is the game everyone wanted and wants to play.

1) A private server?
2) Older videos re-uploaded?
3) Special events organized by the players on live servers?
The inventory in those videos makes me think otherwise. Some elements of the current game UI. However, the rest makes me think private servers. Pretty sure posting those is a no no on these forums. That said, the fact that private servers proliferate is just one more example that Lineage II is, essentially, a dead game.
I'm not picking out any one person's specific post or opinion....but wouldn't by definition "dead" mean the game has close to 0 players, and making 0 or negative revenues (profit)? I think the game is alive and well, considering the amount of financial input; low payroll, minimal maintenance and development...then raking in money through the ncstore etc, and the suspicious theory of double dipping (bots rmt).... I think because many of us are mad as hell at how things are easily accessible via our wallets vs. hard work now is why we get mad, bitter, and quit..then yell "game is dead"! I'm just saying, just say the game is f'd up and or catering to the wrong crowd, or lost it's honor or something......if it were truly dead, it would be closed. These forums wouldn't exist. And all us b***hes wouldn't be here carrying on.
Just my thought over my coffee today. Feel free to tear me a new one...I'm a big boy and I don't care anyways. ;-)

I honestly do not know much about how other NC Soft subsidiaries run things seeing as they do not do business in the United States. If that is legit, well grats to them. However, that doesn't change the fact the game, as run by NCSoft West, is an essentially dead game and nothing will really save it at this point.
I doubt even bringing back servers locked at an older time will do anything. Not with how they approach their handling of violations to the End User License Agreement and Terms of Service Agreement (how they handle botting.)
@Brosh187
That is the fine point that isn't stated in this whole thread. Each and every persons judgement as to whether or not the game is dead or alive will be a matter of personal opinion. This opinion will be developed by each persons perspective on the game. My own, having played this game a good deal back in 2004-5 and less so into 2006, and then modestly extensive starting 2008-09, and then again in 2011, is that the game in its current state is just about dead.
I will agree with 'rofmaoWaterfall', sorta agree anyway, on one thing, this game did have one of the best potential for enjoyable pvp when it first came along in a fantasy setting. That makes the games current state truly a shame.

The hay days are gone, but we're still here in some capacity, so imo it's still alive. Might be limping, dragging one leg, body cast, iv, oxegen tank, life support, around the clock nurse on duty, family and friends present in case of passing.... but still alive.
Really, L2classic is a hybrid, that has many mistakes and population is lower by the min (at least EU, even private classic has more players) as it is now fresh, imagine later.
Right are all who say that old times are gone, and instead of making balanced better game w/o the same mistakes they will fail like always, not to mention the feeling that you know what is to come and that it is the same thing makes you wonder if it is worth paying more a month than new mmo's have per 2 months.
Ok we all know how much mistakes are made in l2.. and I think the dev team likes it this way, even now empty promisses, nerfing or op'ing classes instead of thinking and trying to balance, making more and more content for only ebayers and making casual players unable to have fun or any chance.
At end even if I try to think positive as a ,,normal" player when I even have a small fate I read such news like adding bonuses for +9/10 sets for example..for me it is trying to make op ebayers more op, normal players w/o even slighy chance to fight back, another thing that will make tanks more usless, another thing that will be worth of billions so even in real money will be a pain to make.
I think fun is equal chance for all to be competive and where skills and build matter, I dont see fun in beeing so OP that 99% of the server is one shot and the worst part those people are destroying the market with cosmic prices, botting etc.
It is a shame for l2, because there isnt another mmo with some mechanics that matter and make it a game worth playing not only for a short time or just for story mode.
This topic is pointless. People who wanted or want to play this game did so or are doing so still. There are no new players coming into this game, the only influx of newbies LII in the west ever saw was during the first few updates and the transition to free to play model which retained some people who now make up the community together with those of us who stuck with LII ever since day one. You need grounds to consider any sort of model reinvention / change, whatever you want to call it - revival as you say. There are no grounds - there wont be enough people to justify opening classic server or a traditional progression server based on subscription model, especially after I. already took care of Classic for Europeans and Americans who know how to play there. The voting for opening of classic didn't really work out too well though as EU classic is already struggling with sub 2k peek online counts just after few months of launch day.
There are people who want sub based server, progression server, whatever else you say? Who are they? Has-beens and wannabes who want an opportunity of a fresh start to out-no-life their peers by not buying convenience while supporting the game they seem to worship and spending 18 hours a day in-game, pretending that somehow buying a relatively cheap item to fund your hobby is bad without realizing that peoples priorities happened to change in a span of a decade and most cant afford to camp epics for 8 hours any longer. People who did not play this game when it was sub based and chose private servers instead while jerking their insecurity off to dvp videos.
I played since Chronicle 2 here, i left for EU one when free to play happened with my friends, then went to RU classic and eventually EU classic and then came back here few weeks ago. And every single forum is filled with unhappy people trying to extract beeswax out of s. Open your eyes for the love of god, this game cannot and will not be revived - to us its the best mmo ever because for most of us it was the first mmo, thats why we feel this way - to the rest of mmo players this is just another run of the mill Korean grind fest which they avoid both for it being old and for many other reasons. Opening another server under whatever model will just further divide community that was broken with GOD launch which made parties out of 9 into parties of 7 and screwed over hundreds if not thousands of people. Opening of RU/EU officials just furthered this splitting, and Frankenstein private server doomsday device sealed the deal years ago.
LII will inevitably shut its doors in the west (as in Lineage2.com) with the launch of Master X Master and LE, (Blade and Soul began the process already) it might not happen the same day but it will happen in the span of the year from the release of (one of) those titles. Same happened to L1 when GW2 launced, same will happen to LII, especially when one of the launching games is another Lineage title which will cater both to modern day mmo market and LII players who long for something new that has the LII factor in it.
Nobody who matters listens to you crying wolf, unless you are active member of Korean LII community you might as well go on the top of the roof and scream out your posts - it will have same effect. Leave it be, enjoy the game while it still gets updates, while it still provides you with events and daily content because in few years you will be stuck with reverse engineered private servers with no longevity and you wont have an option unless you will go to Russian retail which will live as long as the Korean one due to Russians being one of the most active in current LII scene.
And please, stop bashing people who spend thousands in this game, they are the sole reason you are still able to open the client and play in NC West servers.
