what madness is this that i can't talk in ANY chat short of clan chat (which becomes harder to join cuz u know.. i cna't talk) till lvl 75? i'm aware reaching 75 isn't terribly difficult these days but this is utterly insane... i'd assume this is in place to combat gold spammers but good lord >.>

It's the lazy/easy/cheap attempt at slowing the gold spam. Of course the spammers have bots that can automatically level characters (via quests) to +75 in less than a day so you can see how much that really matters...
The side effect is that it ensures that no newbies join the game and stick around as it's impossible to make any social connections or even get questions answered on basic game mechanics. Since most of the information out there is outdated and there's no real up to date database on all subjects. I started playing in beta and have done the "play 2 to 8 months then quit for a year or three thing since then. I came back after a good 4 years about 6 months ago and I still haven't figured out some of the changes that have occurred to basic game mechanics. I'm level +100 with no enchanted skills because I can't get basic information on them...
yea... this is what u'd call a hamfisted attempt to counter the spammers.. and as u said since the bots can level to 75 super quick anyway it's pretyt much doing nothin but alienating newbies and veterans alike... it's like tryin to excise a tumor by choppin the whole limb off
You can make New LvL 85 awakened character in 1 day now.
Just follow the quest chains and you get Free Gears and shots...etc. SO easy now. Free Paulina's gear armor set + weapon from level 40, 58 quest chains and S-grade after 3rd class transfer at LvL 76.
the fact it's easy to level (tho i do appreciate the stuff they've done since i was gone to speed the leveling process) doesn't excuse the fact it utterly ruins any attempts at asking for help on anything (game mechanics a high lvl PK harassing u etc) ingame which CAN drive ppl away..
also there's the fact not every1 has time to devote alot of hours a day to leveling some may only be able to log in a few hours a day
