I don't claim to be an expert in this subject but here is what I think and my educated guess on how the enchant system works.
They are all time based.
What does it mean? It means when you compound or enchant stuff, they are not random but their success chance is based on server clock.
Skill enchanting for example, going from 6 to 7, there is a 30 sec of fail period followed by 5-10 sec window of success period. Fail Fail Fail Fail Fail then Success Success then fail fail fail fail...
Jewel Compounding for example.
Once you have, let's say 10 x LvL4 Jewels. If you compound them straight up, chances are, they are all gonna fail. What you can do is opening and compounding other LvL1 Jewels. It is my guess but I think every 3-4 minutes there is a window of 10 sec of high chance of success period. During this high success period, you can easily compound 3 or 4 jewels successfully then it is followed by 10 x fails. I think it works the same for enchanting gears.
Many skilled enchanters use lower level gears to time their main enchants.
Also, it seems to me, the longer you take your time compounding or enchanting, higher the chance for success; cuz the more you delay, the less likely you rush all your enchants in the fail period.
Eh :) I may give you my sample, one time I have 1 lv 5 Kain and x50 lv 4. From all 50 I got just x3 lv 5 and when try to make lv6 + with that my old lv5 you know, I got just my old lv 5 and lose all other lv4 in compound processes
1. It's better to have some strategy than to have no strategy at all.
2. I don't think my method works 100% of the time, and yes there is still the element of randomness. But when you study the item enchants and Jewel compoundings and observe the outcomes, there is a pattern. They are not all random. We get clusters of successes and failures.

I don't think this is the case.
Rates for enchanting / compounding / alchemy are all predetermined. Each time you engage in one of these activities your "action" is run through the formula. If you get "lucky," you see success, if not......you don't.
Having said that, I am superstitious and choose to perform my own ritual(s) :).
In true randomness we expect clusters - we just dont know where they will be. if there ware no clusters, then there would be MORE order and we could come to a situation where, if you failed 3 times in a row, fourth MUST succeed. Instead, you might fail.. whatever number of times.
