I started playing on Lineage 2 Classic RU about 3 months ago. I have a 47 PW now after rerolling TH to PW and many many hours of low lvl pvp and deleveling :D
L2 Classic in EU failed but L2 classic in Russia is alive and well. The servers are 2 years old and still when you try to log in during russia prime time you can't because the server is at capacity. (6500 accounts).
There are about 250+ Players already 76+. It takes 6.5x more exp to get to 75 than it did in original L2. Almost everyone there plays with 2-4 boxes and hero shout is always spamming messages about people looking for CP's (Constant Parties) It's easy to find pick up groups at any time of day.
Unfortunately there's no "English speaking community" but most people I talk to understand English and I've made plenty of friends that speak fluently. Once I learned the Cyrillic alphabet the game was easy to figure out, as most words are direct translations from English.
Bots are impossible to find, RMT is about 50/50, and random PvP is everywhere.
If you really want to play a classic server, give Gran Kain a try. You won't regret it. I stream on twitch under the name Fedai9 if you want to check it out or got any questions for me about how to make an account and where to buy time codes (USA credit cards/paypal won't work)
I'd be interested in something like this as I'd be starting off around the same level as everyone else.
Consolidate 2 of the least populated existing servers and create a North American Classic server.
I prefer the earlier releases, (not including the crashes & many bugs heh) and coming back to Chronos recently at 90 I feel that the price of most items are insanely high. I did try a few of those pvt servers but the lag for me made the game less than ideal.
Its not only that, but current old school Lineage 2 gamers are jumping through many hoops to either play on a private server or on RU/KR/EU Classic Servers.
North and South America desperately need a Lineage 2 Classic server.
NC west is scared of making clasic server because when eu opened it it died to fast so they dont want to make bad investment thats why they dont talk about opening clasic servers.

I don't see the fear to be honest. NCSoft already hasent an English classic client. And nowadays spinning up a new server is not hard, especially since most of them are virtual.
I really hope we see an NCWest classic server soon. Hell if they don't do it, I'd be wiling to buy the license from NCWest and publish it myself.

nah.. it seems that the people behind Lineage 2 and the player base, just simply REFUSE, to get their heads out of their ***, and finaly realize that "boxes", are a cancer to this game. as long as you cannot let go of that abomination, this ship will never sail again.

Multiboxing is the only way to go in Classic environment if you don't have a constant party at the moment given the fact mosnters are tougher than old l2, as a result every single solo stuff is only possible with a ton of buffs stacked on your main char, add to that the fact people will not have money for soulshots. This is why Classic would fail in west: only Russians can deal with it.
Go to twitch and watch russians playing Classic and you'll see exactly that, every DD or Tank only solo with a PP + BD + SWS boxed behind them and every nuker only solo with both SE + EE behind them.

If you hate the "new" Lineage 2, then it will not take longer than 2 weeks to understand classic is the same "new" Lineage 2, just smaller map and few minor minigame changes (e.g. Gludio siege).
Oh, did I mention l2.ru has top C grade (time limited) in pay2win shop + C grade expertise rune? So you can effectively start with top C grade equipment at level 1 if you like p2w.
