tl;dr; - why would i want to spend money on a 15 year old game and have no guarantee that id be even close to competitive, when most items scale such that most money spent = best player?
Why does Lineage2 (and seemingly only Lineage 2) continue to do crazy stuff with items such that if you have item X, you are literally unbeatable? It feels as though the people working on this don't understand a thing about it.
In the past, the dev team made half-hearted attempts at leveling the playing field, but they never stuck with it.
The gem system is a perfect example of this - absolutely no problem with this kind of thing, everybody likes money. But, if you spend an absurd amount and are lucky, you'll have the godly lvl 5 (or freaking 6 now). If you spend the money that a normal person would spend on a 15 year old game, you end up with something virtually worthless.
Look at obsidian:
Lvl 1 - 1% (lol)
Lvl 2 - 3% (wow thanks)
lvl 3 - 7% (why the hell would it more than double here?)
lvl 4 - 11% (a 50% increase over the last level...its like they were guessin, or only interested in following a pattern?)
lvl 5 - 15%
Grtr - 15% (someone forgot to update this clearly!)
This type of item scaling is on almost every freaking category of item now. Why were these not added to scale with some sanity (you know - the type of thing that will keep people playing).
4% incremental damage reduction from Obsidian level 5 is not insignificant for an end-game player. As for the Greater Obsidian, it has one of the most powerful effects of any of the level 6 jewels.
The scaling might be a little bit odd but I don't know what to tell ya. If you don't think it's worth it then don't invest the money to get it.
Simply put, in the end-game it's a lot incremental improvements that can make a big difference in your character, and they get increasingly expensive.
you spend the money if you love the game, if you have enough money to afford it etc
you will never be competitive unless you spend abit and play alot or spend alot and play abit
yeah 15y old game but trust me brah, there is nothing out there worth it :)
tryied almost every MMO out there, they are all p2w, all games have bots, all games have OP items etc :) but I didnt find comfort and enjoyment like I find in the good old L2 :)

thats just my 2 centsThere are about 400 million MMOs out there. I find it extremely unlikely you've tried almost all of them.
I was talking about the main ones you find out there: Aion , WoW, Terra, Archage, Revelation Online, Blade and Soul, Guild Wars 2
Ofcourse I didnt even bother to play games like Metin2 and other crappy games :)Yes at last count there were about 400 million MMOs out there.
FFXIV is bigger than all the "main ones" you listed except WoW.
I'm surprised you listed aion, terra, blade and soul but didn't mention Black Desert Online which is bigger.
Then there's other big names that were around when Lineage 2 was new like Eve online or everquest which are still chugging along. Eve online itself has been doing quite well considering it's age.
Star wars the old republic.
Star Trek online.
Elder Scrolls online.
Neverwinter
Runescape is still chugging along too with good numbers even in 2016 more than L2 by most counts.
Hell FFXI is still being played quite a bit.
All of those are more popular than Lineage 2 and most are more popular than some of the mmos you mentioned.
Elite would have to be considered a MMO at this point right?
Point is your list is missing the second biggest MMO out there along with some others that are in the top ten. As such I can't take your earlier comment "tryied almost every MMO out there" seriously at all.
