I used to play l2 from Korean open beta/ NA prelude, chronicle 1,2,3...etc - all the way until interlude. It's been a long time since I've played since then. I'm thinking about returning but I'm wondering if it's even worth coming back to. All my characters are gone - I used to play on Devianne, which means I'd have to start over from scratch, with nothing, at level 1. Is there even a slight possibility of ever catching up and being able to pvp and what not? Also, are there even any English speaking players in the game anymore -- is there a particular server that's mostly English based players?
If you wanna back for the PvP, go away, it is dead for a several years already.
Well, there is a slight chance you can try compete and PvP, but that's only if you have $10-20 000 or even more to invest in your toon. If not, do not bother even to try.
If you want to level up and make some new friends, purely PvE, that is not a problem at all. Leveling is much easier than it was before.
Serious competitive PVP is dead. Informal random challenges while leveling still exists and I've gotten over 10 kill so far in basic R gear (all were the aggressors). So it does happen but there are definitely many characters who just straight one shot me.
I believe Devianne ended up merged into Chronus but it doesn't matter as you weren't around to properly migrate your account.
There are many MANY english speakers in the game. Leveling is much easier as stated earlier and most classes get good leveling gear called Paulina's for d c a s and a 30 day version of r grade. If you go orc mystic the paulina gear is terrible but for most classes it's good stuff. I've used the S grade to get dual classes to 99.
Well fist of all pvp isn't dead at all. There are so many clans and/or cps that are making 99% of the time only pvp.
As pointed out before L2 has become a pay2win game. Gear it's all that matters. And no even if you have the money you can't catch up other guys of the same lvl untill you have done some pay2win events.

It will require at least 6 months before you have accomplished to do a lvl 3 5 jewels brooch and at lest 1 elemental shirt +7.
Without that gear you are a one-shot moving target weaker than an elpy.

I have a suggestion for you tho ;) Next time show a vid where your hero/dragon weap party is walking around siege and all ppl with brains just BSOEing straight(or if not are one shotted on sight) :D That is the PvP we have nowadays! SO MUCH FUN!
