For me, it's the "old memories" in game. I've spent a good amount of my youth playing this game because it was the "new thing" in RPG. L2 wasn't about joining a room and say "let's go crush Diablo" and see who can pick up the drops faster anymore..
The game had a world I could run around and fight cool monsters like spiders, werewolves, which scared the **** out of me when I first fought them. When I got killed by it, my pants dropped and I could not believe that my item fell off of me to the ground for anyone to pick it up and take it away from me. I remember running back to where I got owned thinking 'the pants better be there'. L2 also had a boat come by Talking Island to pick up frontiers to go to Gludio (but I chose to run across the ocean to the main land instead).
Throughout the evolution of L2, we've had our bitterness that were caused by many many unforeseen circumstances that led to unbalanced characters, bug exploitors, scammers, botters, scripters, RMTers .. etc
However, I still remember the good times playing the game with my friends chasing off the Chinese adena farmers in orc barrack, starting a clan that had a profound lack of leadership so it went under, looking at sunset on a hill with a lonely and vacant house on it facing the ocean and inviting friends come on over, scraping every adena me and my friends had so I can buy this one handed book with slightly higher m.atk and feeling the new improved wind strike.. I can talk all night..
My conclusion is, no matter how L2 turned out to be in today's world, I will still enjoy every bit of the game until it's time to say goodbye (server closure or maybe perhaps Lineage 3 will release). After all, Lineage 2 brought me more good memories than the bad.
Almost every modern MMO or online game has been McDonaldfied. Familiar mechanics/menu. Polished marketing and advertisements. Mainstream appeal. You walk in and you know exactly what you are going to get.
L2 is the independant tavern down the street. Been there forever and the owner doesn't give a **** if you want vegetarian options. Infact you're pretty sure he's watering down your beer. But all the same you will never find food anywhere else thats quite like that Tavern.
I honestly don't know anymore. I haven't killed a mob (except those low level CRP raids) for nearly a year now. I am still gearing up so I could do PvP and PvE efficiently, even though it looks like the game will likely die faster than I will actually start doing that.
With the latest gear adjustments and an OE bloody pole I'm pretty sure I could solo ECP by now, except I have absolutely zero desire to waste time on that. Fishing might gain less XP but you just stock up bait for a week and that's it. I'm pretty sure ep 5.5 will kill fishing XP wise, and the only way will be some version 3 shining magic bait bought for ncoin, despite the newly introduced level 102/105 normal bait. Perhaps then…
L2 still an adictive game, I hope this problem of low adena and drop in general is temporary, apart from that I think that lineage 2 has a spirit that no other game has and that I have tried many MMO
Many of you have the mindset that the game is dying and that no new players are coming, but I am actually that new player. I'm not new to the game, but new to NCWEST. After playing on many private servers I've realized that they are not stable and people leave after 1 month of playing. Then I decided to go retail; I tried Innova, but paying for premium and other l2store items is impossible from the U.S, so I had to come here. I started on Freya (because Chronos is overpopulated imo) and so far I am having a great experience.
Because lineage 2 is a beautiful artwork!!, but unfortunately not very well managed, i played since 2004 to 2007, then 2016 until now. I got bored for the bad administration in those times, so i left.
Now is a diferent lineage, more expensive, but this ""f2p"" is a factor that helps me to be able to generate game progress because i cant play everything that i want.
Because someone had the bright idea to make my toon look like a young Charlize Theron and I can see her running around all day from behind... that's just sick I know... but I don't care.... :D
