My wolf at level 30!!!

Congradulations :D
A job well done
thank you, thats exactly what i wanted to see, the wolf has better attack than a dragon (assuming im not missing something major)
447 hp yaaay
If you can look beyond the hp, the wolf is great. While hunting with her, I've been able to hold off on buying a C grade weapon in favor for C grade armor.

Besides - we just found a Sword of Rev off a soul today. She didn't argue one bit when I said I was keeping it. (Unlike real life party members... hehe)
Wow. The highest level wolf I've ever seen. Grats.

Makes me wish I never sold my wolf now... You made me a believer! :P
The wolf is never supposed to be a tank:) consider it more of a versatile cubic you have to feed
Good stuff. I'm too lazy to level my wolf up.
Can you share some tips for leveling a wolf?

I just completed the Wolf quest and have been training my wolf. I read the Level Your Wolf (http://lineage.warcry.com/index.php/content/lineage2/guides/etc/levwolf) guide on the warcry website and tried that method. It seemed to gain xp just as well by attacking the mob first, then have the wolf attack.

I purchased Iron Canines for its weapon, no armor yet. I figure I will always deal more damage, in turn keepin the aggro.

I do like having the xtra DD when soloing.

BTW.. Congrats... good doggie ;)
Well.. she hasn't been able to get past 32, for one reason or another:

1. Orc Archers
2. Area damage from certain golems
3. Me pressing the attack button before my first hit lands ( I MISSED!? ) And yes, this is contrary to my advice in other posts. Yes - I'm an idiot.

It is at this point where she has deleved maybe 4 times that I wish the following:

1. JUST CHANGE THE DANG EXP LOSS ON DEATH. Really, how hard is it? Change a variable or something in the code! Throw my poor doggie a BONE!
2. Lemme use her SP on something - she's got enough to start a clan!
3. Fix the equipment drop on death! I've had cases where a mob squishes her, and when I try to pick up the gear - it says ( failed to pick up <item> ) What is up with that!? That's MY DOG'S GEAR everyone is starting at! Let me have first dibs at picking it up!
4. She needs better gear.
5. She needs better gear.
6. She needs better gear. She feels like a level 32 group memeber using non grade equipment.

But yeah... despite this - I'm very happy with my dog. When she's alive. She just made level 32... again... for the fourth time. Please... someone up there... please hear me!!! The pet system isn't broken... IT'S CRIPPLED! ;)
Level 33 Stats (http://www.apelila.com/Mana33.jpg)

Finally! Mana hit 33. She's been stuck at 32 for sooo long, I am so happy that she made it pass that "milestone". Note that she also has 300k+ SP... common mods, gimme a skill I can spend this on! Or at least allow me to transfer it back to me character! lol!!

She's leveling a whole lot slower now, almost as slow as I am - she gets .05 per mob, so getting her to 35 is going to be quite a challenge. Once she hits 35, I can now officially compare her stats to that of a starter dragon.

I passed her along to me scavvy, and she's doing wonders with him. With a p.atk just 20 less then his, we breeze so fast through the mobs that I find meself running out of MP before I do health! ( Which is a beautiful thing! Especially since I don't spend any adena on ss )

Say hello if ye see me ingame! Menehune ( me dwarf ) and Mana love groups. ^_^ Aloha!!!
Very nice job onthe doggie

:):):)
Ive tried many times to slowly start leveling my dog and as youve said. i will "miss" and the mob aggros my pet and kablooey hes dead. I now have a lvl 13 wolf  but i will continue to try lvling him. your work is in inspiration. i wish leveling pets was like lineage I. i had some serious dogs in that game.
Best of luck to you Rangstow. ^_^ I recommend hunting mobs at his level, if ye can't find any - you may need to create an alt for her to catch up with yer main.
Wee good job, And i have Rreally good news for you ^_^ in chroinicle2 EXP for pets will be INCREASE and all EXP gained PRior to chrinicle 2 will be accounted for AND Death EXP loss has been cut by 70% and all death exp loss will be compensated by chornicle 2! SO when C2 comes along expect your pup to gain quite a few levels :3 and i do mean that :) level 40 maybe? haha hopes and dreams. maybe 38 :3
Yer kidding right?

I knew they would reduce the exp penalty on death, but I didn't know they would reimburse experience lost from death before the patch. If so, man oh man, that would make me very very happy. :)

I'm a bit worried tho, me wolf got bugged, and her Sp reset to 0. ( She used to have around 315k. ) Will they still know how often she died?
uh ... thats wrong, they make up for the difference of exp by say you have 70k exp and your lvl 15 in c1 but in c2 with 70k exp your pup is really 18, your pup will level to 18 automatically. (no thats not the right numbers im just giving an example) and no i think at 30 you can plan on going to 35 or so but not 40
Does it have it's special attack yet? If so what is it?
no
No special attack yet, just 2x the p.atk of a dragon. That's her only redeeming quality. ^_^
we needs an update on your wolf, its been a long while
oo - something happened to me wolf - she is now a clone of me old wolf.

Something happened that reset her sp and food bar to 0. I managed to feed her in time, but me sp is a 0. Will post a pic of this when I get home.

Imagine... a level 32 wolf ( yes... deleveled... *sigh* ) with 0 sp. ^_^
That's awesome... :)
I've been trying to raise wolves for some time now but have never been as successful as I would like up until recently.
Daine and Kaitou later, Kessy comes and joins me in my hunts!
I've got him the best equipment I can get him and have been hunting with him pretty much non-stop since I got him, which puts him at level 19 (almost 20!) right now.
Honestly, other than Kessy, your pup is the highest one I've ever seen...
Anyways, that's awesome, keep going. :)
If any of you are interested in a hatchling (star) at 45 with viperbite (fairly low wpn)

Screenshot (http://plaza.ufl.edu/dacommie/Shot00004.jpg)

I think it only died once...maybe twice, so SP is still fairly what you'll expect to have sittin around *sigh*
very nice,

i bet that cost you a lot in food, those darn star's eat so much
Well.. I took me dog out to play again, and for some reason - she seems to be doing much better against me mobs. Here is her stats earlier in the day: (Note the SP... reduced heavily from the previous screenshot)

Mana at 32 (http://www.apelila.com/mana32.jpg)

However, she leveled to 33 again and wow does a single level make a difference. She's actually getting more exp per mob then the prior level simply because she's 4 pts. stronger and a few points more accurate.

Me problems with her inability to pay for herself ( and still have money left over for me upgrades )have been solved. Me current mobs drop nice things - and they sell very well. :)

Here is a few statistics to munch on - and this is how we do between each sitting on me [censored] (roughly 20 minutes +- 5 minutes // using soul shots only on those freaky cases where I am triple teamed by mobs):

8 - 12k in adena drops
2-4k on doggie munchies
Profit from adena drops alone roughly 6 - 8k per run.

She eats up roughly 1/3 me exp - meaning I can farm me mobs that much longer. ^_^

Thanks for reviving this thread Terrance... I'm inspired to try and raise her again. ( And I pray yer wrong LordChaos666 - because I too am beginning to think that in C2, she may become useless unless her gear improves )
oh,
Kiranya & Mana

meet

Ariestema & Kessy

--------------------

also, i think there are new equipments :p

just look at this:
Wolve's Mithril Armor (http://lineage.warcry.com/index.php/content/db_php/armord.php?id=3901)

i mean, i cant know for a fact, but warcry has several armors for wolves and hatchlings listed, that are not in game right now
Alright, so...
My pup is almost level 20 now. I can't wait until mine is as powerful as yours. :)
Speaking of powerful, I sure hope C2 brings some awesome new wolf armor. If there's one flaw with my pup now it's how low his p.def and hp are.
So if that could be remedied with some more powerful armor... *droolz*...
wow, such dedication and hard work, congrats, i dunno if i have the patience to lvl my wolf, but maybe i should try again. For now my sidekick dark panther helps me out, its a nice kitty :)
My dark panther has much more hp, p attack, p def and everything else than ur wolf. It costs more to feed a wolf to then to summon a panther. The only thing I see for u out of this is sellin the wolf. You will get a lot of money.
actually,
his panther is a permenant hunting partner

he can use his wolf ALL the time, your panther is only temporary,

and, if you were to keep your panther out, for the same ammount of time as his wolf, it would cost like 10 times as much,

and,
a wolf, at the same level as your panther, does actually have very good stats, not as much as the panther, but cirtainly nothing to be ashamed of
You know Governator, I hear that all the time, and nobody is changing my opinion. :)

(I think they're just jealous...) ;)

Oh, and an update on Kessy, some omnipotent force doesn't want him to get to level 21... every time I get close the poor guy dies somehow!
Great job on level 30, those stats are great, especially the P.Atk
Well... here we are at level 35.

C2 certainly made things easier for us, especially with the reduced exp penalty on death - I killed her shortly after this screeny... and am happy to report she only lost 10%. :)

I've transferred her to my scavvy - and we're ripping through mobs. We're making an insane amount of money together - especially with those nutts in Giran paying like 5k for leather and 850a for animal skins.

I love C2... I love it so much. :)

Mana At Level 35!!! (http://www.apelila.com/mana35.gif)

Anyways - this is a milestone for me wolf. I can now compare her stats to that of a brand new hatchling.

As for p.atk, I've noticed it jumps 5 per level now. It seems to get faster as she gets higher in levels. I'm really excited to see how she performs at 40.

Aloha to all of you!

Yes - you are right. Your panther ownz my wolf PvP - undoubtly, and it does much better then me wolf too PvE. However, as mentioned prior - it is out permanently. And food is only 125a a pop. 100 food will last me more then a few hours at 12k so I don't see what yer getting at about cost.

And I love me wolf because ALL of my chars can use her, especially my Dwarf Scavvy. God knows that little bugger needs all the firepower he can get. lol

btw - good luck on yer wolves the rest of ye - I can't wait to hear yer stories.
Does your wolf wear any equipment in those pictures, if so, what equipment and how much is it?

Does your wolf wear any equipment in those pictures, if so, what equipment and how much is it?

Most likely it's

Fang of Saltydog -roughly 453K depending on taxes and such....
Wolves Scale Mail - ~280-300K IIRC

AFAIK these are the best two Wolf armor/weapons in the game currently. My wolf is only L31 but the stats are very close so I assume it's the same equipment based on the previous screens.

A good guesstimate is to assume 1 Million to outfit a Wolf with top equipment and 2 Million to outfit a Hatchling in top equipment.

actually, with C2, it's 6 mil to equip a hatchling with top EQ.
You are correct Pain, she's using saltyfangs and top armor. ( Which isn't really top... just best that is available that we know of )

Top gear for wolves runs approx. 3/4 a million.

6m for Striders!? WHOAH!!

someone was telling me in vent there's a 13 mil adena weapon for striders...

i havent gone to giran (where they said they saw it) to look yet.
Salty dog is top weapon available for wolves? Man and I thought I was short changing Tooth when I bought it :p
I wonder why they can't make the pet armor and food drop-able. I mean arrows are like food for archers, without 'em he's a sittin duck. I don't see how hard it is to add in some code that makes these items into loot.
That would be nice - mobs that drop dog food. :)

Course it would take away the monopoly those pet vendors have on dog chow... and they do look kinda sneaky...

... maybe mobs DO drop food, but the pet vendors went steal them first! Oh those sneaky guys!!! Grrrr
I think this turn around NCSoft decided to make pets for "The Few, The Proud, etc..". It seems to me pets were easier to tame/level/feed in Lin1 than they are here. It didn't require very much money. You tamed the wild dogs using meat (meat=human/dog food), 1 food costs 8a and dropped from mobs also, and 1 food kept the dog fed and happy for a good while at low levels. Oh well, on my way to being one of the few with a high level pet :D.
I have to say that the C2 pet changes were nice. We could have used some better quipment to buy, but the extra food gauge and lower death penalty were much needed...however, there is one little fly in the pet ointment.

Magic using mobs in C2.

These are the #1 pet haters in game right now. Apparently a pets Mdef is roughly in line with their soloing power...ie tissue paper. So any AOE attacks tend to wipe out your pet almost instantly, and the magic mob AI means Hate won't keep the heat off your pet. I noted this in C1 fighting Shamans, but this really kicked in gear in C2. Essentially any Magic casting mob when engaged in melee (casting Aura Burn or any point blank spell...like poison [Leinruk Lads]) will randomly (sequentially?) target any assisting PC/Pet with their spells (or special attacks) which 80% of the time soloing means their first special attack will hit your pet before switching back to you and their normal attacks will cycle between it's attackers. (Your pet and you)

Hate apparently has no affect on this target switching. At a distance those attacks will still be cast on you, (Hangmen Tree's in EG) but up close the mobs are not so discriminating.

So be careful when leveling your pet! Your pet can probably take the 1-3 hits if your meleeing a mob and kill it reasonably quickly, but you need to pay attention to their HP and have them just hang ten if they take more than 1/2 damage, or alternate killing non-magic mobs until they heal up. (No rest state for pets.) :(

In some Instances (Enchanted Golems under the Ivory tower was one that got my pet) ONE hit is all it may take to put your pet under. Carry extra Antidotes (Appropriate level) and maybe a heal or two if your really paranioid, and make sure you have a rez! (Or scroll really fast to town and buy one! Your pet's corpse should scroll to town with you. I think it does...at least when I died and my pet died we both 're-started' in town...although it was still dead.)

[ps - pets dropping *everything* on death sucks!]

That would be nice - mobs that drop dog food. :)

Course it would take away the monopoly those pet vendors have on dog chow... and they do look kinda sneaky...

... maybe mobs DO drop food, but the pet vendors went steal them first! Oh those sneaky guys!!! Grrrr

I could pass on the food dropping....but I'd love to see pet weapons/armor/recipe's/parts drop for stuff above the one's you can currently buy!
Wow !!!!! Sucks to hear about the magic casting mobs(specially the ones with Aura Burn). Guess I'll have to test the waters now that I'm switching hunting grounds. Oh and when you port back to town the wolf/pet will port with you even if it's dead. So if you don't have a rez on you make sure you at least have an SOE.
Yeah, I've noticed the random casting by the shamans, however as long as I hunt mobs her level, she's fine.

She can take a few magical shots from the lizard shamans in the field of silence. I pray she can still hold her own against the higher level mobs.

Yeah, the AOE spells are scary, but I don't reach them until I go into the valley. The first AOE mob that killed her was the headless knights. Whenever I see them, I tell her to sit and stay put. After he casts it the first time, then she can jump in and have fun too. Not quite as fun for her... but she is tremendously underleveled for that area anyway.

Better EQ is a must! I hope something comes our way in C3. ^_^
one thing to note:

summons and pets ARE mobs. they dont get agroed by other mobs unless they attack them.

as a phantom summoner, if i'm low on life and need to gain life next CLD, i'll send in my shadow to attack an agro spellcasting mob first, while i stay out of agro range. after he hits once, i run in and hit.

on mobs like eyes under IT, the long range spell is approx 4x the damage of the short range spell, which i can take no problem.

on spellcasting mobs in melee range, the ones that aura burn at least, will aura burn on all characters/mobs hitting it equally without preference.

this isnt a problem for me and my summon with 3k + hp, and (and now, i got an mdef buff :))

but it is a problem for you and low hp pets in general.
I was not aware that pets could not be targeted until the first strike. Mana got "passively" aggroed by one of those ghostlike things in the enchanted valley.

An easy way to confirm this would be to order yer pet to attack an aggro mob. If this were true, the mob shouldn't attack yer pet until the pet lands a blow. Anyone care to test this out? Mana refuses to come out of her collar now... lol
Confirmed Kira,

Pets and summon do not aggro mobs....never ever, unless they hit the mobs first.

Even though, they need to hit the mob 2 times minimum to keep the aggro this is particularly true on aggro mobs type :

On a Fett Soul, you let your pet go hit the Soul :
- if you enter the Fet Soul vision before your pet hit the mob 2 times, you will immediately take the aggro.
- if you enter the Fett Soul vision after your pet hit him 2 times, the pet/summon will keep the aggro.

As Valdrinn said, pets and summons are considered as mobs by other mobs so they won't be atked on sight <=> they are considered as true neutral here (haha, ex-Myrmidon private j/k) You seem to be a fighter so no wonder why you never notice this as you always need to melee to atk, therefore you always take the aggro before your pet.

To tell the truth this is the first warning i give to the players that party me: for melee, (tank /DD) wait until the Unicorn hit the mob once BEFORE moving to the mob and for nukers, cast when you see me casting.. then the melee will take back easily the agro and only receive part of the original dmg, while the nuker won't have to agro the mob and prentend to be a tank. :)

actually, it's based on damage done to fettered soul which builds hate. but the first hit automatically generates alot more hate than subsequent hits.
Hrmm.... thankies. ^_^ I'll remember this should I ever create a caster alt.

Oh, and an update on Kessy, some omnipotent force doesn't want him to get to level 21... every time I get close the poor guy dies somehow!

Update! Update!!! How is Kessy? :)
True Val,

But this "rule" seems only valid when it's a player that gives the first hit not when it's a summon/pet: a summon's first hit (except if crit) won't be enough to keep the agro.

Try it: order your summon to hit the fet 1 time and at the moment the summon hit the Fett make sure you enter the Soul fett agro range : the fett will auto agro you even if the summon did 1 hit. Eventually it will agro back on the summon after 3-4 hits (if you, the summoner, don't hit the fett)

Same : on a non aggro mob make the summon hit the mob 1st and immediately after ask a player (or yourself) to hit the mob.. if the player hit the mob before the Summon starts to hit a 2nd time , the player will auto agro even though the summon hit first

Redo the same using 2 players: player A hit a fet once, player B hit after him ... if both of them keep fighting , player B will never agro

=> I really have no idea how they program this, so i prefer not to say it's a rule.. i can only give you what i have seen while playing as a summoner.
Okie dokie, it's that time again! :)

Mana at level 37 (http://www.apelila.com/downloads/mana37.jpg)

Lessons learned:
1. Mobs with AOE that are over level can really be bad for a wolf's health. (Mobs her level can zap her all they like) If ye spot one, tell her to sit while you pound away. After the AOE spell goes off, turn off sit and have her attack as usual for some exp.

2. Wolves can use pots of alacrity to boost their attack speed, giving them a better share of the exp! (Works wonders when paired with a low level scavenger that's sole purpose is farming, rather then leveling)

3. Still no extra skills, not any bigger, and not any darker. Still the same **** wolf I started with... just a bit stronger. ^_^

Aloha to all of ye!
Ooh, what items can a wolf use anyhow?
So far, she's been able to use greater health and health potions, haste potions, and alacrity potions. Due to restrictions imposed by NCSoft, they can no longer hold ss... so using them is out of the question.

Ooo - I'm kinda curious if she can use escape scrolls! lol - will be sure to try that out as soon as I log on again. :)
Thats pretty **** cool. I would never have the patience for that.
I don't think anyone has posted this information before, so here's another great pet tip.

Your pet loves to play Fetch!

C2 did a lot to relieve the getting stuck problems, but sometimes stuff is juuuust out of reach or drops in a spot you KNOW you will get stuck in on or around. (Like slopes.)

Rather than blowing adena on a SoE or playing GM roulette, exercise your pet for it's health and your wealth! Tell it to 'pickup' and as long as the item is in pickup range your pet will go places you would have trouble with and bring the goodies back to you! If for some strange reason even it gets stuck....just unsummon and resummon your pet back to you!

And because pets don't attract aggro mobs attention like you do, you can have them get stuff in 'hot' spots as well!

For example: In the Execution Grounds some bright melee mind decided to solo the Demon Tempest....with predicatable results. And they ended up dropping 15 Alacrity pots to boot! After waiting over 15 minutes the dead party did not return so Finders Keepers rules apply...Alas, the DT camped the spot pretty hard hoping to lure the greedy in, so a snatch and grab would have been a dicey action. My little Hatchling was getting kinda bored so I decided to give him a little excercise, and the next time the DT took a half step away with his little peons I had the little scamp run up and fetch the goodies!

I stayed out of aggro range, the Hatchling got some healthy excercise and we both were happy with our 'drop'. :)

Now this also makes me wonder....if your pet never attacks but you do....will mobs attack it if they kill you? If they don't maybe having a pet out but never attacking with it could be a cheap form of 'item insurance'. So if you die and drop, ol' faithful there could pickup any drops you may make right before you take the Express SoE back to town along with your pet and your items. ???Could anyone verify this in C2???
Fetch!! Hahaha - I must remember this technique. ^_^

As for your pet not being killed... I dunno... I'm to scared to test it. :)

my summon does 1.5-2x the damage i do, and i have dual katanas.

they steal agro from me anyway, about 3/4 the way through the mob. that seems to work well, because i cld to full on mob death, and the shadow leeches to full while the next mob is agroed on me.
no, the pet wont be killed. i've attacked even agro mobs with the pet, and if i stay way out of their agro range, the pet's agro doesnt xfer to me.

hell, i've even had my pet attack guards while i was standing right next to them. pet dies, i live.

the problem with her theory is you cant give pet commands after you're dead. so the item insurance, just, well, isnt.
Kiranya, could you also post the stats of your wolf, when it is not wearing any armor?
and not wearing any weapon too.
You have no life do you?
LMAO
that takes more dedication than I have :p
Aloha

I hope you still lvl yaa doggy.
Keep your target, dont care if they call you insane.
I salute your tenacity. :D
ynow, I wish I found this spot earlier, before I sold my wolf.....I might as well get a hatchling.....
IamGuard and GrensealO, thanks fer yer kind words. :) She'll continue to level... I'm hoping something will change at level 40. Ye know... maybe I'll be able to ride her around? ;)
Will you take me for a ride please? :)
So how easy/hard is it for a healer to level a wolf?

So how easy/hard is it for a healer to level a wolf?

I'm not a healer, but put guesstimating from my Destroyer...I'd say it would be hard. Below L30 it wouldn't be terrible, but 30+ would start to bring the danger level up. The danger level for *YOU* that is.

A wolfs HP/Pdef isn't nearly as impressive as it's Patk, so don't expect it to take more than ~6 hits before it dies. (Assuming it doesn't die sooner!) Which means that *you* have to to tank the mobs for it to avoid the constant threat of death. And no, chain healing it will not work. It will take damage too fast and can die before your heal is finished casting...and if your casting that much healing your going to take aggro and end up tanking the mobs in the end anyway!

Since your pretty much stuck with Light armor at best, robes will not work here, as long as you are comfortable with healing yourself and risking yourself in battle the wolf will help keep some of the heat off you, by helping you kill things faster and leveling fairly quickly to boot.

On the other hand, I'm not a healer and can only *speculate* about the potential combo of healer, pet, root, and a bow or polearm....who knows, maybe just chain rooting mobs will work.
I can officially confirm that this is currently the highest level wolf pet on any NA/EU server. Caring for a pet is no small task, and we're thrilled to see that people are enjoying the challenge, and making it into a positive experience to share with the community on these forums.

Simply outstanding effort, Kiranya!

- Ash
Thank ye kindly ash. :)
I wish the screenshot still worked as I just brought my noob wolf outta retirement earlier today.
I've an updated screenshot showing me wolf at 38. I'd change the link on the first post, but I don't think we can edit posts that far back.

*sigh* Well, I'm afraid my joy in recent events have been hampered somewhat. I took a gamble by selling my hasted war axe and purchased dual raids at 12m. (not bad at all from what I hear) Tried to get them to +4... and it popped. >.<

I'm dissapointed to be sure... and I feel as though I've been set back a few months. Me thinks imma take a break for a long while.

See you all when I see you ~ K
ok ok... looks like me uncle convinced me to stay in the game. Time to put that scavenger to work for the next month and a half. >.<

lesson learned... DON'T ENCHANT!!!!!!!!!!! :p
good for you =) get that wolf to 40, awesome work
Good on ya for staying in the game Kiranya. Keep levellin' that wolf!
ya ur wolf is higher lvl than me good luck. Someday I'll get a wolf again but not until I don't die so much... my last wolf out lived me and died cause I couldn't rez him. I was dead lol.
New flash people!

Not sure if this just stuck under the radar in the last patch or no-one made mention of it, but it appears that pets no longer 'drop everything' on death!!!

I've had the mistfortune of having my Hatchling die 3 times in the last week or so...and not once did it drop anything!

It may not be the wish potion jackpot...but it's good to have regardless.
WOW!! No drop on death? Are ye positive? :)

WOW!! No drop on death? Are ye positive? :)

About as positive as I can be without deleveling it below starting stats. <_<

Just a week (or was it two?) my wolf died to a Harit Lizardmen aggro while trying to level a SA crystal and it dropped everything...on an alt char my Hatchling has died three times since then this week, and not once did it drop a single thing.

So either all pet drops have been fixed, (Or at least the chances made the same as normal char deaths.) or Hatchlings drop rate has been fixed and the Wolf is not...if the unfortunate happens to the wolf again I'll update this again.
Ye've been such a great help on this Pain, thankies. If mana decides to take a nose dive before yours, I'll be sure to post here as well.
my 53 hatchling of stars bit it last night to an idiotic group of players (multi spellcasting aggro in CT with three healers out of mp+snipes) Had high end eq on it with 400ish food... didn't drop a thing. Might I express my extreme gratitude to the NCSoft staff for considering/fixing this issue in combination to the alteration to the xp loss due to death.
Took me about an hour and 250ish food to regain the 8%.
Kiriana,
Congrats, on your progress as usual,

and now, a cry for help:

oh great palaidin master of the Beasts,

HOW do you raise your pet after c2?

i have tried so many times to raise my hatchling and he has only droped in level,

all of the monsters, no matter how much hate i generate, just seem to turn and kill him at random!

please help, guru of L2 pets,

(btw - kessy has been lost, due to some lag issues)
(Ariastema has a New wolf on his Knight, and another for his dwarf, but it took him a while to get over the loss of kessy)
Dear Terance,

Oh no! Kessy is gone? I am so sorry to hear of it... I hope the loss wasn't too much to bear. Lord knows I'd be devestated if Mana was taken from me.

Anyhow, C2 leveling turned out to be much easier then C1 - primarily because of the exp loss reduction on death. However, if ye seem to be having problems with random mobs attacking her - then yer prolly hunting somewhere social. Get aways from there and hunt somewhere where the mobs don't care for one another - as pointed out the purple haired poster - yer pet won't be bothered by aggro mobs if they leave eachother alone.

Mana however is growing fast - and eating faster. Luckily, we still earn more then she eats - so I don't care. However, she no longer hunts with me paladin - she's in the care of me scavenger, Menehune. I kinda sorta got greedy and tried to enchant me dual spirits to +4. Well, it popped. And that put me back, and I almost quit me game. Me clan is prolly wondering where the hell I am.

Anyhow, GREAT NEWS! Mana is 39! One more 'till CLASS CHANGE to... well... ... er... maybe she'll turn black? Who knows... bleh. If there's anything she'd pick up, it'd prolly be some uber food eating skillz. hehe.

Anyhow, the stats - armed and unarmed. Enjoy! ^_^ (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/mana39.jpg)
Armed m.def +1? :-)
Excellent work Kiranya!
Woot! So excited about the LET DOWN at level 40 when NOTHING HAPPENS!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! :)

Ooo - and never met yer Sen RobinE. Goodluck with her. :)

Ooo - and never met yer Sen RobinE. Goodluck with her. :)

Sen is a boy :p Thanks though, i'm catching up fast (well, only ten levels behind)
Awesome Robin. :)

Also, I'd like to note that I managed to confirm the pet drop everything on death... it is no more, or like us, they have a random chance of dropping stuff.

Brave mana here decided she had exp to spare - so I rushed her headlong into ol mahum suppliers with a few maps and varnishes. After killing 2 of them - the 3rd finally knocked her out cold - and she dropped.... NOTHING!!! Woot! :)

Must have been buried in patch notes somewhere, but ye know I'm luvin the person who made the change. ^_^

Oh... and mana hates me now for that small experiment. ;)

Thanks for you help,
But thats not quite the problem,

its not other monsters attacking him,
i'm slow, but not that slow ;)

my problem is, that the monster will suddenly stop hitting me,
smack my hatchling down, then go back to hitting me,

totaly at random,

and if the monster has a spell or skill, they will ALWAYS use it on my pet,

Please, give me a hint,

at level 35, what did Mana kill for xp?
Never meant to imply ye were slow Terrance. :) Ahh yes, that makes sense. Yeah - you'll see some mobs target random members of the party. That's an entirely new thing in C2, and one sure to cause headaches.

If yer pet is dying too often against these mobs, yer either in an area too strong for her - or ye need better armor. There is really no easy way around it.

Or ye can do what I did. Start a dwarf, and let the pet play with him/her instead. Yer dwarf doesn't need the experience anyway once ye find something yer wanting to farm. :)

Anywho, best of lucks to ye Mr. T. :)

The real headache is going to come in C3...if you've perused the notes on changes, you should pay close attention to where they talk about mob behaviour. In essense they are saying that mobs are going to be *alot* more aggressive in targeting 'weaker' party members and switching up hits even if aggro/hated by a tank. :(

I have an sinking suspician that pets are going to be getting alot more hits in the future...perhaps fatally. Here's hoping we get better armor/weapons/stats/skills to make up for this added difficulty...
wow, that wolf has alot of p.atk

which wolf weapon is mana using? the most expensive?

I have a level 39 hatchling...star

while it has tons of pdef its p.atk is definitely lacking :( 1/4 of what your wolf has..and thats WITH a weapon equipped :X
Yer workin true to yer name pain amplifier. I am now dreading C3 (of course... I was dreading C2... but Mana has thrived under this chronicle). Our wolves will REQUIRE better access to weapons if they're gonna survive with us later.

In reponse to the previous poster, she's wearing the best wolf weapons ye can buy (saltyfangs). Which costs a fraction of the amount the best weapon a strider/hatchling can use.

Oh! And break on the champagne! Mana is 40!!!

Click here for a screenshot of armed and unarmed stats!!! (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/mana40.jpg)
Congratulations, Kiranya. Your path has been hard, and I can only hope that one day NC will give the Wolf pets a chance.
wow, gratss on lvl 40! amazing! :) god, and the highest lvl wolf in the NA servers. god you and mana must be proud!!!

i am infected with pet-love-iasis!!! i got me a wind hatchling. a good friend just gave me his and now i am absolutely in love with it. unfortunately it was deleveled on 34. i, by no means, wanna steal this thread so could someone pm with info on lvling pets through the board pm (links etc)? like mob lvls ur pet should hunt in comparison to its lvl and stuff? sorry if that info has been posted before but today is hell at work and i can't search that effectively.

keep up the good work u two!
Congratulations !! That's fantastic :)
I like how yer gear matches the color of yer wolf. Kinda like... the dynamic duo or something. :)

A bow!? Does that work well? I've always wanted to try it... but because of how much gear costs - ye know, can't experiment much. How do you hunt? You pull, and when they get close - you let Sen rip them to pieces?
wow,

40, congrats!

Sadly, i cannot in anyway afford the equipment for my hatchling,

i suppose my dreams of a stryder were hopless from the start!

on another note,
i tried giving hatchlings to my alts,,

and althougth the Star hatchling is by far the most usefull thing i have ever discovered for pre lvl 20 alt,
(a portable tank, practically impervious to pre 20 mobs)
(has done everything from save my dwarf from extra aggro, to distracting rooms of aggros so i can get though)
(and of course, takes hits while i regenerate mp)

i cant even seem to get my pet xp on anything much below his own level
I don't know what to tell ya Mr. T... I've no experience with a hatchling... :( regardless - I wish you the best. If there is anything a Paladin like ye can depend on - it's yer faith. :)

nodnod i hit first and then it depends on the mob. If its a melee target then i'll wait for it to come to me.

If its a ranged attacker like a monster eye i'll send the pet as soon as my first hit lands. Somtimes ranged mobs move in for close attack in which case i tell Sen to stop attacking and then re-attack when he is close. The pet will move closer and re-attack automatically but i think the stop/attack thing can work a bit faster.

I'm really pleased with how the wolf is turning out. I'm not keen on dragons - they seem really expensive - so i'm hoping some wolf skills will appear, well, anytime would be nice. Assuming the wolf doesn't get permakilled i see no reason he couldn't get to 45, 50 or even higher. It might be harder to use a pet in a large high-level hunting group (a wolf might get in the way there) but i think a small, tight party could benefit as long as the pet owner knew what they were doing.

Ok, here's a few pet levelling tips.

First, having your pet (and you!) fight mobs below your pets level is not a good way to level. XP will come slooooow and drops will obviously be poor. Also for the most part, having your pet solo (near level) stuff that you tank/hate/root is just as slow given their lower damage. (Better XP, but takes far too long. It's boring too...)

Now since pets get xp like your char, your best bet is to simply have it attack higher level mobs. Your pet will do less damage, true. But the amount of xp it gains per hit is *much* greater. There is a limit however. Your pet needs to *hit* the mob for it to get any xp. For Wolves this means you should keep the mobs level within ~10 levels of your pet. Too high of a mob and your wolf will miss far too often to gain decent xp. The same applies to Star and Twilight. Wind hatchling however is a little different. The special attack of the Wind means most of its damage comes from using it's special skill...which hits 100% of the time. So fighting even higher level mobs still gives a good return (up to a point) even if it's normal attacks miss alot.

Bonus tip! Feed your pet a Potion of Alacrity to help speed up it's leveling. (Less so for the Wind. =P )

Beyond that, keep in mind your pets get exponentially weaker in defense when getting hit by higher level mobs! So the higher level mob you fight for better xp also means a higher risk of pet death due to unexpected aggro, alternated attacks, and mob spells. If you choose your mobs wisely and make sure to hold aggro this risk is (currently) minimal.

Also, for party purposes, I'm of the mind that a duo with 2 pets is probably the closest to ideal party for raising pets. A trio may be doable also, but too many chars and pets means the chaos of a fight can rapidly end in pet death simply because the mobs and the fight get lost in all the graphics.

Oh, and it may seem redundant to mention this, but try to get the top pet weapon possible before even aquiring the pet. If you cant afford it, you'll probably be constantly struggling with adena trying to pay for upkeep/upgrading and your own chars needs. (The actual adena per xp/level really isn't that much worse and may actually be better...but it will definately *feel* worse!) Plus the pet weapon resale market for non-top equip doesn't exist...for Hatchlings and Wolves at least. (Striders fall into a different category alltogether.)

My own pet(s) are currently on hiatus while I grind up some cash for C grade armor with a not-very-pet-compatible-at-this-time alt, aka Orc Shaman. (Got the weapon already for my main.) But I'm hoping to start back up before too long...

Oh, and mega-big congrats on reaching L40 with Mana, Kiranya!!
Aloha Pain! Nice list of suggestions! I couldn't have said it all better meself. :) However, I need to ask why yer pet isn't compatible with shamans? I actually was under the impression they worked quite well. In solo, and shamans are actually quite capable solo when in heavy, shamans do DoT damage - allowing the pet the opportunity to slug a few hits in to help it gain experience.

Mana and me orc got along just fine actually. However I couldn't really get into the green skin... brr.... that and the fact that the shaman couldn't buff me wolf (with the exception of shield). But me Paladin couldn't either, but they got along quite well too.
Oh, and nice setup Robin. :) If I ever start an archer alt I'll try and follow yer lead. Good to see that it actually works tho. Just seems a bit dangerous seeing me wolf charging out there away from my protection. I'm guessing you just fish things out when the mobs are social eh?

Also, after reading yer post - I was inspired to try something new. In areas that are aggro, but not social - I've been able to fish out mobs with Mana. She goes in and is ignored by everyone, pokes a mob - and returns to me with the mob in tow. This works on the basilisks in the southern wastelands and fettered souls. I'm sure there are others. :D

This is an easy one to explain...my Shaman is L25 (Just hit it tonight) and my Wolf is L30! For this level w/a twinked Shaman, I'm simply not going to be getting the Wolf any worthwhile XP and the Shaman doesn't need any help killing mobs yet!

I think when I get closer to L30, If I don't have enough cash for the Armor I want, I will bring the wolf back out. But until then I can level faster just going solo.

And speaking of Shamans...I swear I do better with a set of 107 Duals than I do with a Skullbreaker+Shield....I may miss more, (About 2x, but the SB *still* misses a fair amount.) however I also get more than 4x the number of crits as with the blunt! (The shield seldom blocks if at all. Plus the damage reduction isn't that great either. )

O_O;

I don't think I'll be risking that manauever anytime soon...although with the C2 changes in mob/pet aggro this is definately a significant trick to know about!
Y'know I just realized...we're at 5 pages...in the Screenshots forum...and we haven't got many screenshots at all!

So to fix that right quick here are some screens of my pets to liven things up a bit!
First let me introduce my Wind Hatchling. (http://personalpages.tds.net/~painamplifier/AM-Warmachine.jpg)
Now let's play Fetch!!! (http://personalpages.tds.net/~painamplifier/AM-Fetch-Illus.jpg)
And finally my Wolf in action. (http://personalpages.tds.net/~painamplifier/CT-Carrion-Drone.jpg)
Absolutely beautiful Pain. :)

I like how yer dragon is shiny enough to reflect light! Shiny shiny. :)

And finally my Wolf in action. (http://personalpages.tds.net/~painamplifier/CT-Carrion-Drone.jpg)

What kind of armor is your orc mystic wearing? Can I make a suggestion? Take a simple screenshot of her standing, trim it down and add to the thread at the top of the page.

There aren't enough people who play orcs, especially the female ones. :(
I believe she's wearing brig. And she's been rendered on a nice computer too - the stakato is reflecting light... ooooo. :)

However, since Pain felt the need to put screenies up, I will too! I mean.. it only makes sense because this is the screenshot section right? :)

Also, sorry about the file sizes. I realize that I haven't taken them down from BMP format (well... some of them anyway), but hey - I'm lazy. lol! If it really becomes a problem, lemme know and I'll convert them.

Alpha male my butt!!! Gooooo Mana!!! (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/lineage2_collage/Shot00044.bmp)
Mana needs a can of RAID. (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/lineage2_collage/Shot00068.bmp)
Huh? (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/lineage2_collage/Shot00128.jpg)
Hunting in the valley (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/lineage2_collage/Shot00195.jpg)
Look at my spirits. That's before I CRYSTALIZED IT BY ACCIDENT!! ARGHHHHHH!!!! (http://www.apelila.com/images/Lineage/lineage2_collage/Shot00308.jpg)

And I bet you didn't see this one coming so soon. (I love me farming dwarf, and thanks to the nice people in EG for not getting irritated with me count downs... hehe... 10% more!!! lol)

o_O; The armor is indeed Brigandine....but this is an Orc Destroyer. (Raider at the time of the pic, and this is my main.) And if you poke around the earlier threads on the forum...I have some other shots of her in those. Go away! No buffs-NO BUFFS! >_<

As for the computer, it's just at the high end of low. ^_^;
(AMD XP 2400+, 1GB Ram, Radeon 9550 - Self-Built PC.)

Too bad about the Vaporizing Kiranya...but the Spirits look nice. Which is good since I have 9 Spirit blades I want to have made into the full sword for the future. Then perhaps a Katana or Raid sword and Dual them....hopefully mine don't Vaporize too. O_<

I'll see if I can't find some other shots to post too later when I have more time.
haha - I knew the bitmaps would be a problem... grrr... ok ok - will never do it again from here on out. ;)
Just got meself mentioned in the newsletter... pretty sweet. ;) Feel free to message me alt dwarf Menehune while I try and collect adena for me main. Aloha!
gratz on getting in the newsletter. You are on the main site aswell - kudos indeed! Maybe a few more people will be tickled into getting pets. Despite the expense they can be a lot of fun (http://infinitelives.tv/robin/FlyingWolf2.png)
finally, level 31. Poseurs (http://infinitelives.tv/robin/Poseurs3.png)

Strange thing happened: my pet wolf went from a near full food bar to something like 65% the moment he levelled. Never done that before, how odd.
What's the level cap for pets? :)
Always have food on both yerself and the wolf RobinE. For some reason, Mana glitched way back in the thread - and her health bar dropped to 0%.

Hasn't happened since then, but ye know I'm gonna raise hell if I lose mana to something like this. :)

What's the level cap for pets? :)

Don't know until we hit it. :)
Yeah, I saw that too on Sieghardt, in Dion. Price was higher then that though. I guess no one is buying so it was lowered?
Well, I know many of ye have been following Mana - so I believe a little explanation is in order of me actions these past few days. On Saturday, Mana was up for 80m in an AFK shop, not to sell her - but just to let people know how she is... since lots of ya keep asking about her level. Not to say that I'm irritated by the inquiries - I do love the conversations - but I'm not on all the time, so I put her up in a shop.

Then she got PK'd by the Wooden Bandits on Seighardt, quite possibly the most organized group of reds I have ever seen. Some 10 reds came out of nowhere and slaughtered my small party. Awesome group - I admire them for organizing in force, since this is rarely done in Lineage - but that is only because we didn't drop anything... hehe.

So I had some time to think about things, while I let the bandits do their thing. Kiranya is almost level 50 again ( deleveled because of me busted weapon to farm for adena ), and I'm gonna need B grade gear.

So now Mana is up for adoption at 40m. I doubt she will sell at all at that price, but realize that I'm in no hurry to part with her. She's been me best friend on the server and has served me and me dwarf well. Though a very small part of me would love the 40m... a very LARGE part of me will sorely miss her.

However, if she is not gone by the end of the day - I will pull her from the market - and I promise ye'll never see her in a shop again fer less than 100m. Because now that I think of it - I don't think I'd be able to handle being without the pup that I've spent a year with in this wonderful world we all live in.

Best of luck to ye all - and Aloha! :)
And thanks for the screenshot VenomRaven. At least I know 2 of the recipies I've had up for sale have been purchased. ;)

Amazing how many brig helm recipies, plate shield recipies, and sage robe recipies I've picked up from EG. I've normally sold them all to stores at 1.8k each... but people are paying 20k - 25k for each!

Can anyone confirm if Mana is still with me? lol - I don't go home for a few more hours. :)
I havent seen an update in forever!!!

do you still have mana!?

or was she purchased by a gang of farmer bandits who are now holding her for ransom!?

oh god i cant stand the suspense!!!!
lol - hey Terrance. It's been a while since I've seen ye on this particular thread.

Mana is still with me, and I'm trying to make it up to her for putting her up for adoption. She's punishing me for sure... I don't ever remember her eating soooooo much food!

Haha - ahhwell. Back to the grind. ;)
Hmm... was about to post some screenies... but apparently me domain expired. I'll get me domain up again asap so ye can all see the latest screenies of Mana.

Anyhow, here is a quick summary of what we've learned these past 2 weeks:
1. High natural M.Def? I notice that her m.def is much lower then me own, yet we take about the same damage from the random casters. (And I'm in full elven!)
2. She eats a TON now, thank god food is cheap. (haha all ye hatchling and strider owners) Each bag now fills up about 3.5% of her bar, so now I'm spending about 1.5 - 2k to get her from 50% to full.
3. With might 2 her p.atk is 176, which is only 12 less then me dwarf using dual 107s with the same buffs. (I had to switch to the duals, because she was stronger then me dwarf using a tarbar... and that's just embarassing)
4. With focus her critical is at a flat 100. Very VERY nice. :)
5. She absolutely REFUSES to eat animal bones. Not that I want her to anyhow, they've hit 500 adena on seighardt!!! (YOINK!)

New Techniques
I've noticed she has been taking about the same, if not less, damage from magic attacks then me dwarf is. So lately, I've been using her to aggro casters. If I aggro 2 casters by mistake, in order to prevent them from using their slower - more powerful spells, I have her attack the second caster. This forces them into using their quick albeit weaker spells thus taking the pressure off me dwarf.

Me wolf is almost level 45, and then she'd only be 4 levels behind Kiranya. I plan on switching back to Kiranya once she hits this point so that she'd have an easier time landing every hit when hunting where I like to hunt. Oh yeah... I also need to replace me main's C grade weapon... DOH... **** enchant scrolls. I've an inventory of the following in me warehouse:
1000 of nearly every basic material (except bones... I sold those at 400 - 500 each)
9000 stems (purchased at 280a and 300a... can't wait for the C3 inflation)
3.6m in adena ( most of which I obtained from selling me C-crystals )
And an extra tarbar

All in all I'm not doing too bad. I'd like to thank the kind castle lords for keeping the manor systems well supplied, and allowing me to farm efficiently this past month. Another month more, and I might be able to replace me duals.

Anyhow, there's yer weekly update Terrance. ;) Aloha to all of you!
Not 100% sure about this, but I think the a pets Mdef is not being represented propery. (Same probably goes for Pdef too...)

I think pets defense (Mdef/Pdef) is heavily affected by their level in some hidden to us ways. So the higher the pet level compared to the mob, the better their defense.

So my L34 Wolf vs Leto Lizardman Shamans gets the crap kicked out of it, (~75% health gone to one mob....and I'm keeping aggro and killing it pretty fast.) While Mana is ~L42 and can probably fight L30 ish magic mobs no problem. (Although her extra damage vs lower mobs means she should go through alot more food also. Since damage=hunger.)
Don't get me wrong Pain - Mana is getting hurt too from these fights because of the lower hp scores. She will lose about 50-75% of her life soloing a shaman lizard found in the field of silence. (Or is it whispers? bah...) The kick here is that with her m.def so much lower - I'd think she'd be eaten alive by those things. (I mean, with my m.def that low my butt will be handed to me on a plate fer sure)

However, yes. I think you are right about a hidden formula we can't see - or that their m.def being misrepresented.

Good ol' pain, yer so good for conversation. :)
I admire your work so much Kiranya that I've actually started a wolf project of my own, I did the quest yesterday, got the wolf and named it after a very special girl in my clan... so far it's been going well, my lvl 56 temple knight is tanking all the mobs for her and she's killing em slowly getting about 1% per kill... Im a bit concerned about how long I can keep this up tho... what do you think about it?

Lilija (the wolf) gained 5 lvls in 5 hours yesterday :)

... I did the quest yesterday, got the wolf and named it after a very special girl in my clan...

Awwwww bless.

What level mobs are you hitting? 1% is a great xp gain for your pet but you must be hitting mobs closer to your level than the wolf. I'm guessing your wolf will continue to earn extremely good rates for a while - enjoy it!

right now Im lvling it on mobs outside of Dion... Im guessing they're about lvl 23-24ish... the wolf is lvl 20 and gains .80% per kill... I myself dont hit the mobs at all, I just use hate on em and let em "hit" me and the wolf kills em all by itself.

Now that's adorible. :) Anyhow, yer method works - but is very slow. If yer serious about leveling yer wolf, yer gonna have to start an alt around her level. You'll find that with saltyfangs, she could rip a hole in nearly every mob while supplementing yer own for more exp per hour then ye can by letting her kill stuff on her own.

aaaw :/ I hope I get a full drop worth 5 mill so I can re-equip my shaman then :P
5m? Good lord, only if yer gonna twink the hell out of yer shaman! haha

Really though, all ye need is a tarbar and heavy armor. Brig at most. I found me shaman tanks very well - and drain life is such a ridiculously powerful spell that ye shouldn't have to sit down (when paired with a wolf anyway)
hehe =) only the best is good enough
i'm still trying to figure out what to do with Life (my wind hatchling)

I am getting pretty close in level to the quest to make hatchling into styder, the problem, my hatchling is lvl 34,

i want to lvl him up before i get Terance too high, (theres penalties when your level is too far off that of your styder)

unfortunatly, i cant even afford my own equipment, let alone the hatchling's equipment or food,

have an alt dwarf artisan that i tried giving the hatchling too, but the best equip i could do for him was a suit of scalemail i crafted myself, and a bottom D weapon,

If i were by myself i would consider starting a brand new char from scratch, and lvl it up to earn money,

but that would basically hang my clan out to dry, and i cant have that either,

man i'm pitiful these days,
i just dont know what to do with myself
I can think of a way to both help yer clan and help yer pet. Tank fer your clan while using the hatchling. :)

erm... hatchlings start at lv 35... you need lv 55 to do the quest... if u bought a lv 34 hatchling u got riped off
Aloha!

kk - 1 week later, we're at 46. Grind is very bad unless she moves to me Paladin - but Imma keep her around whatever alt I play anyway... cuz the extra p.atk is always nice. :)

Anyhow, I posted this on another site - thought I'd share it with the official one. It is a screenshot of my farming setup. Note that me dwarf is using dual 107s, while the wolf is using the <500k adena saltyfangs. Yet, the wolf has a higher p.atk! (That exp hog!!!) Well, as stated before - me dwarf isn't here for exp. The chubby man is here to get me some adena. :)

Menehune and Mana - Farming Setup (http://kalikopela.com/Lineage/Dynamic_Farming_Duo.jpg)
wow.... 192 p.atk very nice job Kiranya :)
Should see her with me Paladin. I'm running around like a wannabe-DA. ;)
hahah :)

only an idiot would buy a hatchling,
I did the quest thanks,

I was making an attempt at leveling it on some Ol Mahums in the Abandoned Camp when it got pked, and me as well :p
(my fault entirely, i was watching TV instead of what i was doing)

i just figure it would be easier to level him the few % back to 35 than to do the ENTIRE quest over again
My wolf is slowly getting up there :) she's at lvl 29.60 now... hopefully 30 by the end of the day
Keep it up! :)

How she performing for ye btw? Is she everything ye dreamed her up to be? :)
My wolf's name is kissyou. I let her kill some rabbits during the event and she went straight from 15 to 22. Gotta level her some more!
PK'd again... *sigh*... gonna be a long level...

Keep it up! :)

How she performing for ye btw? Is she everything ye dreamed her up to be? :)

well... it's getting real slow to lvl her the way I do, I think I might have to get her a lvl 30ish partner to lvl with cause she's having a hard time soloing now.
Soloing!? Gads, never let her solo things. Great exp but at awful speed. Let her hunt with ye. Always. :) (Ye get first hit - very important)
You guys are both aware that you can let your wolf drink Alacrity/Haste/Health potions, correct? ^^
hehe... yes. Thanks. :)

Soloing!? Gads, never let her solo things. Great exp but at awful speed. Let her hunt with ye. Always. :) (Ye get first hit - very important)

well it's not very easy for a lvl 29 wolf to hunt together with a lvl 56 temple knight :P so I have to have her soloing as it is now.
Yeah that's a big gap in levels. I'm guessing the ideal level range is maybe +/- five levels. It depends on class but outside of that you are going to have problems. Either your pet will be too low (-6 or more) and won't hit what you are engaging (s-l-o-w levelling), or too high and draw too much aggro (which is fine if you can heal it but sucks if you are a fighting class).

Pet wolves are fun though eh?! If only their SP could be spend on skills ...

Pet wolves are fun though eh?! If only their SP could be spend on skills ...

they really are... and yeah... they should really give them some kind of skill tree, or maybe some change in appearance

well, shamless plug but i posted a suggestion about wolf class change at 35 which has two different appearances, depending on the class, and those would be in addition to have a normal wolf if you didn't/couldn't do the class change.

As for skill tree, i've thought about that and ... ah no, lets save that for another suggestion.
I once had a wolf named Fred
It was a sunny day but
I thought I level Fred instead
After he was fed
We then came across a red
Fred charged but
Got shot and died instead
I'm sorry to hear about fred
It's a pity yer pet is dead
So pick up yer bow, I'll take up me sword
And we'll hunt till this red is dead
my bow? i dont got one WAWAWAWAWAWAWAAAWAWAWA :(
i know im replaying 2 my self but ok i dont care i guess aa i just want 2 know anyone got a ss of the new pet 4 c3 ?? dieing 2 see it
Been awhile since I last updated ye all with a screeny - so here's some eye candy for ye.

Mana and me plus one friend... or two friends... depending on yer perspective. ;) (http://www.kalikopela.com/Lineage/Mana_Still_47.jpg)

Oh... and she's still 47... haven't budged really since deadlines started popping up everywhere at work. Not bad no? The dwarf raised her up 3 levels below me own. :D
no sheild 0.o
Maximizing me damage fer the price. :) That's why I ditched the shield (except for stun)

Cheap damage (http://kalikopela.com/Lineage/focus.jpg)

Bought me a +3 Flamberge with focus from someone in Giran for 5m. It was a gamble, as I had no idea how effective focus was... but wow am I surprised! :)

The advantages of me two handed focus weapon:
1. Cheap damage, uses only 2 shots. Paired with criticals and +20% to 40% to undead.. and just heavenly if I can get someone to cast that **** death whisper thingy.
2. Ignore shields (handy against undead shields)
3. Very high critical because of focus. (The screeny above is not uncommon. I am guaranteed at least 2 criticals per mob... it's just **** ridiculous when me wolf and I critical nearly all the way through... which is rare, but wow... I'm feeling like a damage dealer. ;))
4. Just **** cool - and I can surprise everyone when they discover I'm a Paladin and not a glad. But that's how I am anyway, me friends know what kind of player I am.

Karandras: So, Kiranya - what are you going to be at level 40?
Kiranya: A Paladin.
Karandras: No really.
Kiranya: A Paladin.
Karandras: No you're not. ;)
Kiranya: hehe

I like to be different. It's how I escape the cookie cutter 'kine characters we have in game today. Everyone basically looks the same, has the same skill sets, same weapons, blah blah blah. I wanted a unique class. I wanted a unique playing style (an effective solo tank... against undead anyway). I wanted a unique pet (40+ wolf). I wanted a unique weapon... cuz I feel sick seeing all these level 40s with samurai longswords running about.

Then there was this conversation I had with a gentleman in Giran.

"Heh, I can get 600 damage on my criticals with my samurai longsword."
"Heh, it's prolly cuz me sword is padded with 7-9million adena around the edges (difference in price between our two weapons). However, I'd like to say that I critical more often then ye do."
"But you are a tank! You aren't supposed to do damage. You are supposed to take it!"
"Everyone has their style of play, and when paired with me wannabe dark panther... the amount of damage we dish out together simply out weighs needing a shield. (I still have one for stunning... gotta love them macros) :D"'
"Good lord... where do you keep that shield!? I mean... with your sword out, it doesn't look like you can carry anything else!"
"Meh... women can store things... here and there... especially when yer outfit is made of steel, yes?" :p
 thats pretty smart
Representing "da nubs"? Pretty cool signature ye got there Chuck. :)
on your sword what does the SA light do excally bc it never tells u when u look at the wepons what the SA ACUALLY DO!
Hmm... focus increases yer critical rate. I now critical as often as a dagger. (With the focus 2 buff, my critical is like 190+)

As for SAs, in the interest of helping our young'uns... check out this page for a list of all the SAs and what they do.

IGN Translated notes on C2 (http://l2vault.ign.com/View.php?view=Translations.Detail&id=16)
woot thx was looking 4 that today ill have 2 bookmark it
yeah back when i started i was useing a tknife till good old lvl 28 then found a elven bow off a strain hehe that was agood day
Well - it seems that an exp penalty now goes into effect if Mana is higher then the mob... which means she can only trully level if she hunts mobs her level... which happens to be me main's level... bleh.

But she's a usefull farming buddy fer sure... and me wolf and dwarf are really really really big fans of the manor system. Together (buffed and using pots of alacrity), we can pull roughly 60-80 crops every buff cycle (20 minutes)... depending on the number of mobs are around. (As mentioned in another post, screw the cute animals such as rabits and deer... bring me more mobs before brining in bambi ****it) We're turning out quite a bunch of materials - and we're hoarding it for C3. :)

Anyhow, she just leveled again tonite and a new screenshot is due. Well... two screenies... anyway.

1. NCSoft ye **** TEASE!!! (http://www.kalikopela.com/Lineage/48tease.jpg)

2. Me main at 50, and Mana at 48. Note too that this is a shopped image, but I swear - I didn't change them numbers. :p Top numbers are armed with top "buyable" gear, bottom numbers represent nekkidness. (http://www.kalikopela.com/Lineage/kiranya50mana48.jpg)

One thing I wish I could do is see her raw stats. I mean, unarmed she has a p.atk of 100+!!! She could literally KILL ME in a fist fight! Ash, I beg of ye... please tell me are we getting new pet weapons fer wolves? This non-grade stuff is killing us. Thankies.

Oh - and NEW SKILLS!! She's enough SP to start a level 3 clan!!! (A bug awhile back reset her SP... so add 450k to the amount ye see in the screeny)

For those of ye who read this much, thanks fer following the thread. Happy hunting, and watch yer step - been feeding Mana new food. It's no longer as easy as scraping it off with yer sword if ye catch me drift.
Well done! Amazing! :) My dwarf's Wolf can only dream of that level but then again he is still nearly newly gotten! :)
Well, i'm quite proud to enter the club of owners of wolves of level 3x

http://img111.exs.cx/img111/4300/morfhallou306ht.jpg

I must say that my furry friend is of great help in hunting, the only problem being that we can't hunt together mobs that have a zone attack...

Beside that, we have hunted together from talking island to aden cemetary... I must say that that wolf never got pked. Most people just find funny to see me hunting with him. Thx to Teon people for having been nice until then with my Morfhall.
Welcome to the club! :)

And... aren't ye a little cold in that thing.. I mean... meh... nevermind. :D
You know what? This is a heavy armor

I don't know if anyone said it here before and it would be hard to try find out, but I noticed wolf doesn't drop anything from inventory upon death since some time ago. I tried it on test server and killed my wolf few times and he had still all stuff in inventory. No drop at all :-) So killing wolf is only dumb thing and nothing else, player will become red or get more karma when he is already red and no profit at all :D
Yer absolutely correct Xantius. Wolves do not drop everything anymore, though I hear that they still have a slight chance at dropping something. (Much like me and yerself)
^^ i just got my wolf last week, i might lvl him after these SS, thnx for the inspiration guys :D

showoff!

:p

That wolf can now 3 shot L14 mobs! (Maraku Werewolf Cheiftans)

Brat has now saved my life for the umpteenth time. I'm still wondering why I'm not dead.
See, my 32 level artisan is in the field of silence, killing lizardmen for the Black Swan Quest. Well, I'm down to 600 hps, and this lizardman I'm killing backs his way into a shaman. Lizardmen shaman drain life, for about 100 a hit. Lizardman is at 1/5 life, and I've been drained twice, and down to less than 400 life. Now, I know one more drain, and I won't be able to get that shaman, as he'll drain me again as I'm coming in. So, I leave my wolf attacking the lizardman, and go whack the shaman, spamming dss all the way. Shaman gets to half life, I'm at less than 200 hps now, my wolf comes running up to me. Lizardman behind me is dead, shaman is going, I'm homefree. Or not. At which point, a dread wolf shows up, and starts eating me from behind. this point, I assume I'm dead, shaman is doing 40 pt aura burns, wolf is hitting me for about 20, no way I'm walking out of here. pretty much choiceless, I turn around and attempt a stun on the wolf, which fails. About this point, I realize the constant aura burns have stopped. somehow my lvl 30 wolf poleaxed a lvl 32 lizardman shaman in two, or three hits. I was impressed, even if the shaman was at about half life. this leaves 1 dread wolf vs Brat and me, at 100 hps and dropping. luckily, dread wolves are fairly low hp mobs, two chomps from Brat, one critted DSS from me, and down he went.

Me, I went to sit down somewhere safe, having finished up with less than 40 hps, and give Brat an extra doggie treat for watching my back, not once, but twice.
Great hunting ground fer yer wolf if she can take the shaman hits. :) Great for the manor system too because of the half hp thing.
I'm not a happy camper folks....

I've been mucking about on the test server and went ahead a did the Wolf quest to check out how C3 will affect them. And it was not good.

As I predicted...mobs will now randomly target your pet, as a 'weaker' party member AI choice. And since there doesn't appear to be any new weapons/armor or hp/stat boosts...expect them to die more often.

At the moment, this AI 'targeting behaviour' appears to be a part of the inital aggro 'activation' for the mob. Aka, mobs will once again aggro a pet if it is in range instead of ignoring it unless attacked, and on the first hit there is a chance the mob will attack your pet instead of you.

Pack plenty of Rez scrolls people. :(

Hopefully I should be able to test the alliance buff thing on my Shaman once it hits L30. (Just need a couple minutes of free time. =P )
<Insert primordial scream here>
<Insert primordial scream here>

Mana's a tough baby - as of now she can take probably 6 hits from a shackle before going under, and two of the firebals from the headless knights.

I do remember them saying something about reclassifying their type. (Humanoid?) Hopefully the type change will change their stats - which in turn makes them more durable.

What I'm really depressed about is the lack of new content fer wolves. Thanks Pain fer getting to me on this. :(

Um, Ive had no personal experience but Lubicius had Ginny (Ginryu) up to 21 in no time on the test server. Last I heard her p.atk of 200 outstripped his.

Doing something wrong maybe?
Kari - yer saying that at level 21, a wolf had a p.atk of 200+? :D

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. :D :D What are they like at 48!? :D
On the Korean PTS, I bought my wolf the 12M adena fang which had a 93 PAtk.
12m!? >.<

Was there a level requirement?
Is it just added to the p.atk of the pet, or is there some kind of strange formula that determines the final stats?

(Yeah... I'm getting excited again. :D)

On the Korean PTS, I bought my wolf the 12M adena fang which had a 93 PAtk.

What shop sold this? Admittedly I've been playing conservatively so I could get money, (Multiple chars deleveld to make fair but not obscene cash in a short time.) so none of my chars has yet broke 30 or gone farther than Giran. Or is this just another case of Korea got it and we didn't?

Um, Ive had no personal experience but Lubicius had Ginny (Ginryu) up to 21 in no time on the test server. Last I heard her p.atk of 200 outstripped his.

Maybe...not sure what class you are or what you are fighting, but I was using a Shaman, and the boost put me at L29 so I was fighting in Cruma Swamp. And in the space of 10 minutes, the wolf died twice to a Mist Horror switching attacks to the wolf. (Still L15) Shaman's have no hate, and can't get aggro back fast enough for the wolfs low hp at that level so any aggro there = insta-death.

Also, using a Arti to get the D-BSpS recipe and using a Golem, has shown the aggro switch AI isn't very consistent. Sometimes I would take aggro instantly from the Golem and other times it would take much longer for it to switch. I wasn't watching it closely (and I dont have a arti that high on the live servers to have a golem) but in the Mirthril mines while sending the Golem out to 'tag' a mob, I noted that the Golem just passing nearby would pick up aggro mobs most of the time. (Where I was really far away, so it wasn't "switching" aggro off me)
no lvl requirement pet wepons as far aas i saw but u can exchange your wepons now reguarless of your lvl and they auto eat there food! FINALLY!
k let me see if i can shed some light. you cannot i repeat cannot "buy"any weapon more powerful than the fang of saltydog, you can however go to the pet manager and exchange it for something better, all the the up to the fang of fenril the 93 patk weapon that someone mentioned, which by the way cost the same as a SoRand not the insane 12 mil that thebest hatchling weapon does

lol no she said that i got Ginryu up to lvl 21 quickly and last info i gave here was that gin had a patk of over 200, here is a pic of the stats with the fang of cerberus, please note my weapon and the fact thati am self buffed with attack aura 2 Greedy little monster passed me (http://us.share.geocities.com/jtwulfe/Shot00023.bmp)
pic doesn't work. What level is she / what weapon / and what's her p.atk like?

Mana is only 25% away from 49... can't wait for more info. Stars for yerself fer being so informative. :D
Only one more till 50 (http://www.kalikopela.com/Lineage/Mana49.jpg)

Top stats are armed.
Bottom unarmed.

Well, we're almost there. :D Amazing, about a year ago we were like... WOW! We hit 30!

Thanks fer stopping by, will post again soon. Can't wait fer C3. I wonder how stryders taste like with hot sauce? ;)

Yehaw! It cost about 2M, but I upgraded the equip on my pet to Fang of Fenril (93 patk) and Wolves Mithril armor (47pdef).

Thanks for the tip on 'Exchange equip"....although why you have to use that instead of just buying it from the shop is weird. (And the main reason I missed it in the first place.)

No time to level or test yet, so maybe later tonight I will see how things go.
another nice thing is that you can now buy (with ancient adena) blessed rez sacroll for your pet from the dawn/dusk priests. 100% rez should help out with the new agro AI.
Meh... I'm from the old school days where every death was a delevel. I'm pretty happy the way we have things now. :D
Keep at it Kiranya, right now your wolf is a lot more impressive than the Striders I see running around. It's more impressive than a few level 70 chars I've seen to be honest. :p

i going 2 start and lvl my lvl 14 wolf now i got hate so where are good spot 2 lvl it like on ti?
HAHAHAHAHAHA.... good one Elrohir. :) :) :) :)

Only one more till 50 (http://www.kalikopela.com/Lineage/Mana49.jpg)

I had to look several times before I saw the wolf... (want to touch the hiney)

ACK! :D Watch it - ye may end up like yer avatar. (Beware the awesome power of stiletto heels)

Did you forget part of your armor? Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Can you do that DE Chick "waiting" emote right now...
Kiranya,
I don't know anything about starting up the quest for getting a wolf, I am quite new to Lineage2. Is there a good place (site or thread) for me to go that would help me get a wolf? Anyhow, I am impressed with what you have done, and also inspired.
pet manager martin in gludin starts the quest, you have to be at least lvl 15, lin.warcry.com has the info on the actual quest
319 p.atk... well... it's good to know me wolf will be doing more damage then me now... :D

Sure, I'll tank - and ye DD Mana! Good girl!!!!

Keep it going, I'm eating up the stats. ;) Finally - it feels like me year of wolf rearing is beginning to pay off. :D

I had similar probs on the PTS. I play a BH on the PTS and using a pole. First time when I summoned my hatch I tried to do gather a train so I can hit several mobs with my pole... it was a complete failure... I aggroed all mobs and my hatch followed me like it always did. In C2 nothing would have happen in C3 on the PTS now those mobs I aggroed switched their targets and attacked my hatch. I didn't even attacked them so far I just tried to pull them into a corner. Pulling aggro mobs and running into a safer zone to attack them with a pet summoned = impossible except u have hate.

I have to say this is kinda stupid and makes it way harder to level pets when you dont have hate. In addition to this when you just run around with your pet it is possible that your pet pulls aggro, your pet is not neutral anymore till it attacks...
Yeah - they're making things more difficult fer sure... but they compensate with added weapons and armor.

Just make sure yer hunting mobs yer pet can handle and ye'll be fine. :D
*SOBS* C3 seems so far away... :D
I'm just 50% away from this. Beautiful. :D
yea or for xp either, the little monster is taking a huge chunk out of my xp
I've spent about a year with Mana leaching off me exp - I figure hunting without her is FAST leveling. ;)

Keep it going, and keep the screenshots coming! Mana will be 50 within the week (about half yer wolf's p.atk because she's stuck in the realm of C2), and we wanna see what her future stats are gonna be. :D

Ohhh - and any new skills? :D
i'm a bad person.
i put ginryu on my lvl 15 and went to gludin arena today, he eat a strider for lunch today, 3 times, once with me, the owner claimed i did the damage, so then one on one, blamed the weapon, soi removed it, then guess what, my wolf won again
yea hatchs dont get alot stronger (except for star) from 35-55, your wolf though had about 40-50 lvls to mature, so of course the wolf would pwn.
Wow - we gots lots of 30+ wolves out there! Keep the screenies coming! It's doing me heart good seeing people ditching the scales fer a bit o' fur. ;)

yea hatchs dont get alot stronger (except for star) from 35-55, your wolf though had about 40-50 lvls to mature, so of course the wolf would pwn.

btw buddy, lvl 15 to 50 is not 40-50 lvls, now go hug ginryu's mea... i mean your strider
About 100k away from a million SP (plus a huge amount of lost sp that the GMs are supposed to reimburse Mana in future chronicles... long story, check earlier in this thread for SP reset).

Any word on new skills NC? Plz? Pweeeeze? Pretty please with an elpy on top? :D

Also, could we rename this thread? This particular thread seems to have become a gathering spot fer many of our wolf owners. Rename it to something more relevant... like... "The Wolf Den" ... or, "Wolf people post here!" :D
Aloooooooooooooha!

Well, NCSoft dropped a bomb on me here. First of all, Mana and I didn't have the adena to upgrade all her gear... sooo - we went ahead and sold ALL of the blades, spellsbooks, and jewelry pieces we had hoarded in the warehouse to the NPC store.

Then we took a hit, and sold some 3500+ bones at 355 each (see what happens when ye don't have any patience? Ye go do dumb things), and sold 50 cbp at 3550. Then we dropped our animal skins and finally - we got mana shiny new teeth and a brand new coat.

50/50 -- The DA Wannabe (http://www.kalikopela.com/Lineage/5050.jpg)

Note that she has nearly 1 million sp. (she actually has more then that because of a bug that caused her sp to reset) Time fer wolf skills NC. :D

So, now I can plow through mobs without actually using ss... since me pup effectively doubles me damage anyway.

Now for the bad news. I could be wrong, but it seems that the more damage me wolf does to a mob, the less likely a mob is to drop adena and items. Without ss, we get an adena drop every 3-5 mobs. (baaaaaaad)

I solved this by actually using ss and the wolf and stopping just the ss once the mob is at half life. Doing so assured me an adena drop every 1-3 mobs

Soooooooo.... in the end, even with the wolf - I still need to spend money to make money. Which isn't all that bad - since I'm only blowing about 1/5 of the actual adena being dropped on ss. Gotta luv the +4 focus flamberge! Bugger only cost me 5m, plus the one scroll I bought at 350k... and about $10 on alcohol to build the nerves required to overenchant. With the extra p.atk added in C3 to two handed weapons - I'm sitting pretty on a weapon that has 150p.atk, gives me 170+ critical rate, and uses only 2ss per charge. Sweeeeeeeeeet. :D Scroll back and see me post on "cheap damage" made a few months back in this thread.

Now more bad news.

Pets are no longer neutral. They will attract mobs. Even worse - I sometimes feel like the game is TRYING to kill her. Aggro mobs would just appear right on top of her, and start attacking her while we're working on something else. Thank God fer the hate skill. (Which has brand new animations and sound that makes it look like yer throwing a stink bomb at yer target! Awesome!!!) If yer not playing a class that has hate - or with someone else who does - ye may have a tough time with yer own critter later down the road.

Pets also have autofeed. Which is a good thing. If I could only get her to eat the mobs we kill.... hrmm... sounds like a new feature that SHOULD be in C4 yes?

Anyhow, big props to the Dev team at NC fer giving us seemingly brand new game fer free. I hope yer all having as much fun as I am. :D

Oh - and I'm selling in an afk shop in Giran. Buy buy buy!!!! :D
Ok ok, I can pretty much confirm the no loot "bug" when pets do more and more damage. I can only guess that they did this to prevent low level dwarves from using overpowering wolves to kill their mobs for them... I'll have to try that later.

For now, be careful about upgrading yer wolves' gear. Making them stronger then yerself will result in the possibility of getting no drops at all. Keep their weapon equal to yer own (so she has the same p.atk as yerself) and use SS until the mob is at least at half health. If ye don't wanna use SS, then be hold off on the upgrade until yer certain ye can do at least 60-70% of the damage to a mob to ensure ye get a better drop rate.

Also, can anyone else confirm this problem? Or is it just me?
My pet was doing well in C2. As an archer i like the extra melee damage the pet provides, and as neither of us has heals (me being human) i thought the pet was both fun and challenging.

C3 has (*edit) changed that for the worse

My pet has died three times losing 43% so despite a lot of killing he is now 6% down relative to pre update. I'm doing great damage to mobs and still they switch to the pet for no real reason. Two archer mobs both powershot my pet so no avoiding that, and a quest mob spawned and went straight for the pet killing it in two. I've even used SS to wear mobs down and still an archer switched despite me taking over 75% of its health befure using the wolf. Maybe archers are now treated like casters (shamans). Maybe all ranged attackers now switch.

Whatever, losing an average of 14% each time still sucks (and this is regardless of pet level). If pets are now treated the same a players i'd really like them to lose xp in the same way rather than the sucky 14% (and no i don't care how it was in C1).

I'm all for improved AI but specifically targetting pets is kinda sucky. I don't have great armour on it but would that really stop a powershot if i did? Unlikely eh? I also have "only" the Fang of Salty Dog and i won't be upgrading in the future.

I suppose from NCSofts point of view, this is a good thing. Less need for them to do anything cool or useful like add pet skills.
A bit bored with striders, I decided to try something new on the PTS, and started raising a wolf. While the payoff may not be as useful an application as a strider, wolves are very rewarding to level. At the moment mine is 61. I pasted into the picture here his stat window with full prophet buffs:

He's even effortlessly beaten down a few low level beggars trying to get money from me. Quite the useful companion. :D
I do think a rider stage for wolves eventually would be very cool. Just need to beef them up a bit bigger.
:swoons: :D
Ahh - going Paladin eh?

Good good - best of luck to ye both. :D
Amazing :D
But how do you keep them from dissapearing don't they disappear if they die and stay dead for a few minutes?
='(
i must say this

I SOLD MY WOLF
='(
yes money tempeted me 1MILLIION~
it was a lot o cash but i go a new one =p
Nothing wrong with that Chuck. :D Just make sure the new owner takes care of her. If anything, ye've furthered the cause! WOLVES FOR TEH WIN!
i have no problem with the drop rates when wolfs kill bc i got a nother and lvled it to like 17 atm with useing hate and tanking in my fp ive gotten almsoted every drop gold and stuff and have gotten leather gloves and a red sunset dagger
from the mobs there

anyway to my question can i buy like lvl range seeds from like 15-21 or so seeds and then sow them on mobs and have my wolf kill them and then harvest them?
lol, you sold it to boyha? the wolf for 1 mil?
Chuck, I believe harvesting is dependant on the sower's level. :D And the drop problem I've been having is because Mana's level is equal to me own. I think the nerfing happens because I could always transfer her to my low level scavvies, and have Mana kill everything for them without even breaking a sweat.
