Far better then those above, and to be honest I've always wondered why it does better then the defunct Tabula Rasa, that was a pretty good game from what I've heard of it...
I guess some things simply catch on, some don't...
Anyway I believe L2 will still be with us in NA/Europe for a very long time, some restructuring might happen, but still, a long time.
TR failed because of poor marketing, the creation of a game that did not suit the wants and needs of the gaming community until what they were going to do with it in the first place and the main reason was the front man who epic failed making a huge buck for it!
TR also lacked any endgame at all. While alot of players may not get there, just seeing that there's something cool to look forward to keeps people interested and excited. L2 always advertised the massive castle sieges, even if they didn't add them till C1, TR just had...nothing. L2 will be around for at least 3-4 years.
In my opinion TR failled because of the game concept. Seriously if I would like to play shooter I go for CoD4/CS 1.6/TF2 those game are far better. And as far as i know all mmo games with this kind of concept failed. Why the hell I need lvl to shoot some1...?

Also Tabula Rasa didn't have a large Korean or Asian playerbase to support it. Even if Lineage 2 has an average amount of players in the west: there are lots more on the other side of the globe ;) Tabula Rasa failed on both sides ^_^
So when all of you will wonder why i pay NC euro/dollars while some others do everything they want without punishment and leave from L2 to play another game.....so on the servers will stay only expoiters and bots, the game dies .
There have been quite a few threads about this particular topic. Seems like the server merges origionally inspired it and its popped up here and there since. Seems to me that the l2 player base has some sort of morbid obsession with its own death. I am happy to see quite a few people believe the game has a long lifespan yet to live. Enough of the emoness!
Long time I hope. As long as people keeping paying the subscription fees, the server will keep running. I figure the answer lays in how many people get attached to their characters and items they've collected who have less disposable time on their hands. The more attached people who don't have the disposable time to invest in rebuilding, the less likely people are to switch to other games where they'll have to rebuild.
If we continue paying for playing It would never be logical for ncsoft to close the servers... My opinion is that only when HARD times will come the servers will close

Hehe ... that's me. Every time I think "hmm this other MMO looks good", I look back and realise I just spent FIVE YEARS grinding up to a decent level (on several characters) and obtaining the equipment and money that I have in L2. Giving that away seems extraordinarily hard...
Of course most of that time I played I was a student, so could play pretty hardcore. Now I have a full time job. So progress is slow for me now. Half a percent here, half a percent there. If I had to start again, a game like L2 would be too time-consuming I think :( Even though I ridicule WoW etc. for being far too easy ;)

well...if you had to try another mmo. i have two out there to suggest
Warhammer online: its fun but its not a free for all type of game. its a faction vs faction
which i thought was a mistake. the PvP is well balanced, theres plenty to do, and they
reward there players.
City of heroes/villians: another Ncsoft game but again theres lots to do. for clan lords.....
sg leaders can build there own base and add there own flavor to it. although limited to
options, theres enough content to enjoy the game.
COH/CoV also has very similiar play features such as a crafting system, outside raidbossess,
just like L2
both games have auction houses. both games offer warehouses (villians/heroes has several different types....depending on what your stocking up on.)
Thats if you leaving L2. these next few updates will make or break the game we love.
and i look foward to seeing what the devs come up with.
I read on mmosite that Lineage 3 was being released in 2011, so L2 will probably be at L1 status when that's released. Very small numbers, low amount of servers if more than 1 at all.
As of March of 2008 NCsoft is forming a group to tackle the L3 Project. It was set to be made way back in 06 however there was some scandal of some sort (Codes being sold to enemies). L3 was suppose to use the Unreal 3 or 4 (I forget) engine however thats all scraped to bits. NCsoft plans on making L3 with some Newer engine either they created or something Unreal has made.
