I wanted to take some time to address some concerns that have been expressed over the last couple of months, a State of Lineage II Address, if you will.
The last few months have been very difficult times for the Lineage II Team. We have had some company reorganization and have all been relocated to Seattle during this time, so it has been challenging to keep our day to day operations at the high standard we all strive for. The launch of Gracia Final and the continued monthly events were tasks that seemed impossible to complete on schedule. However, with a lot of hard work from all of our team members, we were able to keep these things on schedule. Even with this, I know not everything has worked out as I had hoped. The cancellation of our original plan to overhaul the website and the lack of constant forum moderation are two examples of things that I wish could have been different. We sincerely apologize for these inconveniences and thank you very much for all of your patience.
Marissa “Moxie” Mcwaters has fully transitioned from the Austin office and is now fully available for her duties here in Seattle. I have more good news today!
Lauren “Lyzira” Duncan has joined the Lineage II team as our Community Manager! Lyzira has a history of community experience and is joining us after spending the last year with the Exteel and Lineage communities. She has been with NCsoft for over 2 years and has prior Quality Assurance experience. She has a long history of MMO experience both as a player and in the industry. We believe she will be a tremendous asset to the Lineage II community and to the Lineage II Team as a whole.
Please know that not everything is going to be updated and changed in a short period of time, but these things are priorities for us, so they will be in good time.

There are quite a few things in this game which could use improvements, and the communication between players and GMs/devs is one of them. It would be good to make it a bit more transparent if the things players here would like to see improved actually make it to the devs (in Korea) or the GMs (here) as suggestions, what they then think about it and what actually might be done about it in the near future. And I guess that is what the community manager is here for :D

One thing about the Webpage theres a lot of pages about this game, many of them have Wiki kind pages with info's, why dont set a wiki system in L2 moderated to some players to help improve the official one?
This is a idea i know how closed some things should be, but to renew "The Library" would be awesome imo, i made a wiki on my clan webpage, but my time is short to update it, so far i only got completed the info about Rim Pailaka witch imo was one of the best things recently added in game to help players. Website. What'll happen in the next 3months - 6months - 1year? Will it be updated so the information on it is actually up to date? Currently it is useless if you want information you can rely on.

Does anyone else have a problem opeining the weapons up in the library every time i do my explorer freezes on me and i need to restart it. :S

Yea. I tried it once during a break at work (not allowed to install firefox there) It freezes in EI, it's fine in Firefox.
the english version of this game started as a niche mmo for hardcore griders/pvpers. certain aspects of this game clearly seperate it from other mmos: A) an open (sandbox) environment, where anyone can attack you at any time. B) each update brings dynamic pvp class imbalances, giving hope to weaker pvp classes that they will one day be the top of the food chain. C) many risks involved in effort-based equipment creation and loss. D) a wide diversity of player morality.
most people consider all these things to be negative aspects of the game, but actually they are truely genious, because they add opportunities for player conflicts as well as build bonds between players. what this game needs is more things along the same line of thought...more game-driven emergent conditions that make me to want to kill other players. i think territorial wars are a step in the right direction, a golem that i can summon for the express purpose of selling myself soul ore...is just stupid. i beleive the designers did not have a clear understanding of which direction they wanted the game to go, and this ultimately caused a LACK OF COMMUNICATION between the players and the desingers. also, what the GM team should have been doing (or could do more) was giving the players an innaccurate idea of the risks involved with their actions. players that do not have hiogh morality, need to be scared into thinking they are doing something "bad" to have fun. if no one gets punished, then they aren't having fun because they don't preceive that there is a risk involved.
now, you ask, what has happened to the english version of Lineage II, in general, since it was released? the demograghics. like many other online games, it saw an initial intrest from the US, and five years later most of those initial players can't really be expected to still be playing. not neccessarily becasue of game design...in five years time, a lot can happen in real life...it's hard for many people to hold a job for that long. from a business perspective, that means that you need to find a way to get new players. marketing doesn't cost as much as you might be led to believe. if you don't believe me, start a thread and ask your players how to best market your game, if it were me i would make some banners for players to put on their webpages, maybe hand out some server space for official clan web pages, and start a facebook page for "NC West". to not market your product would be a LACK OF COMMUNICATION between your oganization and people whom have never heard of your game.
unofficial "private" versions of the game are played in many countries, and an increasing number of players are not from english speaking countries. instead of trying to get more americans to play a five-year old game, why not try to reclaim the market that the private servers have created, by showing your playerbase that playing on the official servers is better than playing on private? i've been saying it for a long time, but what someone needs to do is call up the people who have been running private servers, and offer them an ultimatum or get them on your payroll. add language support (in game and on forums) for the most popular non-english languages. once again this is an issue concerning LACK OF COMMUNICATION.
also, there is not much "community" left to manage. with the softening of the game over time, a lot of really good hardcore have left, the ones that remain only seem to want to complain about things that have already been complained about 34645645 times. hopefully, in a previous life, you got some experience as a babysitter. good luck.

When Moxie was actively on the boards, some important things got attended to, like the 1 hp rez and the cape crash glitch... which I personally am extremely grateful for ^^ Thanks Moxie!!

What about the state of the GM team? You claim to ban bots everyday, which is fine, especially if you are. But why aren't you banning the ones that have the most negative effect on gameplay?
Why is it that after spam went to Aion, things seemingly got worse? Why are you wasting our time with posts like "btw we were moving, k thx, we'll try" when most people already knew this from spam's farewell post?
Why are you wasting time with cosmetics when there are real problems at hand?

For luna the bots have back to saturate varkas and hot spring, every time i teleport to hot spring i see this tyrant botting since 3 months 24/24h in the teleport spot
And in varkas i see this hero botting since april, i thought than after the hero ban in luna the others heroes will be more carefull, but this hero in varka proove me than even if he is hero he can bot without fear in public place and than he dont need to hide in deep dungeon

I am not one of the hard core complainers in the forum, but as regular reader I can only warn you that this place has alot of venting from quite a few people.
Take it slow and in stride and if you really want to do one thing to start your reputation off with a big bang then I might suggest you address the BOT problem and show us that you are actively trying to do something about it.
A suggestion might be to become a player in game and let us lead you to them. Even if it is just a token hunt the threat of an active Community GM that is willing to be escorted to the BOTS by players who don't cheat maybe it would put some fear into all of them.

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Every post from GM's is either more and more excuses about why stuff isn't fixed or some links to a BS interview where you're stroking off the fanbase with tales about your "priorities" and "plans" that won't see fruition for 3-4 years. You guys have always taken your sweet time to even give notice let alone give a straight-forward answer on ANY real or pressing topic that's presented on the forums. And God forbid you do take notice to anything we have to say, because then it's either a quick padlock or you create an "IGNORE" thread in the nether regions of the forum and ask us to post all complaints there.
Sadly Omega, you don't have to tell us that not everything's going to be changed or updated in a short period of time. Hell we're used to that. It's business as usual as far as we're concerned. Why don't you create posts about the mating habits of the Kodiak Marmoset? It would be just about as useful here as all your other posts.

Well Spud its like this. I know that You, Trenn, and Arme have never botted but when you guys say don't talk about Bots ...NC know.. they don't have to be reminded.... it seems like you want to sweep it under the rug.
If its under the rug...NC will think gee we don't have to do anything cause nobody is complaining therefor the customer base is happy. Now lets see if we can create some more hair accessories for the girls in the game. Maybe a few rainbow now and again.

This is a free country founded on many principles. One of them is free speach. People have made the supreme sacrifice in order that evryone in this country has an opportunity to voice their opinion.

For NC's thread deleters and thread lockers. There are no flames in my thread just the truth. It is linear not circular. Yes its the same old, same old that you refuse to fix. Fix the problem i will shut up and hop on my Unicorn and go see whats on the other side of the Rainbow.
Just wanted to add that i too am sick of posting about bots, cheaters , 3rd party programs, Adena sellers. I would like to play the game but when i can't go to a Cata or Nec or Varka etc etc because all the rooms/areas are infested then i may as well spend my time here.

In the library, when you click on the weapons list, it would be nice to be able to click on the weapon pic & it show you what lvl/color crystal you need to put on that particular SA.

2nd of all, every single thread is not the opportunity to spew your hate for botting. This is why I suggested a forum for bot reports and complaints. That way, other discussion threads could actually have a life and not end up like this one is rapidly becoming.

Well is good if lizyra can celebrate ingame his new job and say hello to community ingame with the sacrifice of 100 bots per server and use their blood to make good champagne and toast it for L2 :)

What??? Have they given the choice to players... um ya the game is designed as grind, the player base has evolved to not wanting it, and seeing as the game is old; its being slowly changed to meet the player base. But under no certain circumstances did they ever force anyone to cheat, peoples LAZY attitudes have caused them to cheat.
But this is completely off the topic of the posting. Things are changing hopefully for the better with these people "now" settled into Seattle, the hiring of a new CM, so heres to the hope of change in all aspects!

The thread title is "State of Lineage II, June 16th, 2009" so its not just to welcome the new CM.
The only sad thing about bot posts is that nothing to date has stopped rampant botting. Even tho these posts may be tiring the forum warriors, I think they should be visible to keep the issue on the list of things that break this game. NC relegates these posts to a dusty corner so they are less of an eyesore but why? Are they afraid of scaring new players off? Are they just tired too and dont give two squats since the math makes more sense with bots? Do they not see a problem at all?

I guess I for one appreciate what you are saying, but why is it that the Lineage 2 USA website has been such an issue and keeping a mod even worse while it seems the Lineage 1 website never had such an issue?
Why is the database been allowed to become so out of date (not one not two but multiple versions back)? If it is just a database, can't either Korea give you a mod app to update it by hand or suck in an update from korea and fix it in steps?
The state of the economy and the world and NcSoft's bottom line, it would seem that anythng that is working, NcSoft would focus on and get it better to keep as many paying customers happy as possible instead of trying to piss us off by not doing much for us.

The problem comes to the forefront when you start to pvsp.
You go up against a botter. He is in the 80s you are in the mid 70s or even high 70s.
The botter has best armor and a few best weapons. You may have good armour and a good weapon.
You are more skilled cause you have actually played your character.
First he uses radar to find you.
Second he looks at your level equip hp, mp
Third he waits for you to attack mob
Once you are engaged he comes and gets first shot.
if you manage to get to him with mobs intow and start to do damage he switches on autopot.
You call for Brezz.
He camps corpse with radar on. If only one guy comes again he looks and decides if he should attack or go elsewhere.
If you don't get the Brezz you have to exp for hours to get lost exp back.
If by some miracle you manage to kill him...while he sleeps he gets the exp back.
This is a PvsP...where is the fun in that.
Also with the adena he makes he sells it to pay for his accounts and walker subscription....thereby making NC smile.
Everyone is happy..except for the legit..but **** him
A nice summary of trying to fight mobs. Which is why you see so much frustration coming out all the time about bots in the forum. Also why the official bot thread is ignored, because people feel it is just another way for NC to ignore the problem. I am sure the few people who are suppose to deal with the bots, are doing what they can with the restrictions and limitations placed upon them, but it is not enough. With this new move completed, I hope that there will be more feedback and more action taking place in game. Because as things are, when I do leave the game it won't be to another NC product. Having said that, I hope for the new staff, their stay won't be an unpleasant one and I wish you good luck.

Thank you DrTulp for the precise description of the problem that legit players have to face due to NCNA prominent game management.
Now, to add insult to injury:
you may have spent months to acquire your A or S grade gear while the cheaters are already sporting fully elemented S80/S84 armor and weapons.
For example, it took me a year to collect around 1 bil adena in order to upgrade my gear, but it went poof due to the whims of the Korean random (when you fail 7-8 S-grade crafts or attribute stones in a row you'll know what kind of fun it is).
At the same time, botters are bragging about making at least ONE BILLION A WEEK due to running their trains in certain spots in HB and IoP.
So, I'd like to hear what the newly introduced NC representatives think of it, and how exactly they intend to make the game actually competitive... or at least playable for legitimate players.

on good day was like 200-300m a day.
is so easy to craft s80 atm.orichalcum is 5m in teon atm and admantine is 2m and since tiat is a instance any clan can kill it for vesper but if u dont have a clan that cant kill in HB or do tiat solo that is other story.
u dont need to ebay to get s80 especially atm where they reduced cost of set 75%
Just want to add my Welcome to Lyzira :) Looking forward to web updates! Don't really care about the style of the site, just want the info to be updated to include new stuff and be accurate >< Hopefully in a way that pulls the information from the game and not by hand which would be a lot less work and more accurate/up to date :)
Things that need top priority are Skills (waaayyyyy out of date), Recipes (not accurate which is a pain), Armors/Weapons including the color and level of Soul Crystals to add the SA's.
I also want to thank Omega. In the midst of all of the changes/challenges he has given us at least one event a month (one month 2!), good events mostly even considering the booboo's on a couple of events :p and with rewards that we have begged for like vitality in some form (well maybe not this squash event lol) but it shows he cares and is really trying hard to please. I also see efforts to reduce the bot population which is a monumental task. I wont elaborate because this isn't a bot thread lol but I hunt in catas on my spoilers and see a lot less bots lately. This is not nckorea with a lot of resources and a lot of people so we need to be patient.
Lineage2 is a beautiful game. It is complicated and has so many layers and in that keeps the interest of many people... even those who have left. It is really a shame that it has basically been abandoned by the company that runs it.
I'm not just referring to bots. I am referring to answering questions, fixing problems, treating their customers like they are important. When we get answers, have them be meaningful and not nebulous or dismissive.
For instance, I have turned in support tickets and been spoken to like a child, and had to answer back in an impolite way to get something taken care of, which it was eventually. Problems are reported here and in support tickets that are really never taken care of, brushed off with rhetoric and cavalier attitudes. This has to be turned around.
Already we have gone from 10 servers to 8, and those 8 have 1 server that is busy, the others are light ... and the seven need to be merged, really, much to the chagrin of the players on them. It is really not due to the content, which is rich and lots to explore. It is due to the neglect.
I am sure there are reasons for this, but it is really a travesty that a game this advanced and complex to be set aside and ignored by its caretakers. This is the reason for the emotions and cynicism expressed on this board.
You have your hands full with us, the few players left that continue to play. We'd like the quality of service to match the quality of the game.

150-250M is a myth for Armor Recs on Bartz.
You can buy the actual crafted armor for less than that.

They can't fix the game from here. And the development cycle makes nearly anything suggested here completely useless.
The thing they CAN ACTUALLY DO. is what they should do, but they have done nothing at all in any field for the last few years, 1 website content update. PTS rolled out every 6 months and going from the abysmal forums they had for years to vBulletin
They can fix it, it's just that the changes would be "sweeping" and they will need to have a clue on what to do. Obviously they are too lazy, and too incompetent to do anything about it. They actually have been accelerating the problem in recent updates.
Well, you are more technically offended than I am, Trens. I dont know that much about programming, but I think the interaction between players, the different levels of game play, and many other things make this game a great game. I would love to see more freedom in designing your character and what it looks like, etc., but that is a superficial change. I've dabbled at a couple other games and found them very much lacking in the depth this game offers.
The thing is, you can get that from any other MMORPG - without many of the glaring issues. It's not that those issues exist. It how persistent they are, and how much NCSoft chooses to further them update after update.
Every game has issues, but I don't care about those on this forum. In other games I play, I am just as forward when talking about crap that is simply crappy and needs to be changed or revamped.
The only difference is that in other games, you can actually converse with the people who matters. Not these pawns that do nothing but forward emails and suggestions, if they even go that far.

I rarely post on officials, but you OBVIOUSLY hate the game and you have yet to say why you play it. Your limp excuse for posting your hatred is that you're entitled to. One thing I've learned Bots don't talk; No chit chat, no asking to share the fields. Now that means I now have to figure out how to get rid of something that's in the field and stopping me from doing what I need to do!

Actually, I always got bot groups to leave rooms by asking the main targeter, usual a dwarf. "Just need for 2 hours!! Go away!!!" Usually they agreed... usually. Like someone up there said, I often was happy a bot group was in the front of catas or toi... esp toi 6 and 8 ... so i could run through... but that was a long time ago, i admit... when toi was a busy place.
Those are farmer groups. I've done that a few times, also.
Player bots are not so nice.
The farmers are usually very considerate because they play in shifts and don't want to get banned anyways. Players don't usually seem to care, and there usually isn't anyone at the computer at all.
Yes, it was nice when 80% of the bots were farmers and you could just ask for a few hours. They'd run their trains into the hallway, and just sit there while you and/or your group killed MOBs :P
As you already see, most of the threads in the board are complaining about Bots, and some players are upsetting about that (both bots in game and bot thread in the forum).
For me, I believe that the GMs are doing their job to ban the bots. I also noticed “the numbers of petition of Bots > the bot cases of the GMs can handle everyday” and as the same time, there is no update about the players petition and they are seeing the bots that they reports are still in game botting, so make the players base upsetting even more. Since the speed of the GMs to ban the bot is not meet the players’ expectation, and the players base think they are out in blind, it makes the players’ base think NC is doing nothing/not banning bots and become more frustrating. It all come down to the root of the problem is “Lack of communication”.
I know it had been suggested a few times in the board like a list of a banned characters on the officially page. I know it is not going to satisfy every player, but at least the list can prove that you guys are doing something about bots. I know that is possible to do because NC Taiwan already did it. I remember one of the CM said can’t do it, because it is against something related to privacy, but I am really not sure why it against privacy if the list only show the toon name not the true player true name (someone know the law in NA/Europe please correct me if I am wrong).

The cancellation of our original plan to overhaul the website and the lack of constant forum moderation are two examples of things that I wish could have been different. We sincerely apologize for these inconveniences and thank you very much for all of your patience.

Please know that not everything is going to be updated and changed in a short period of time, but these things are priorities for us, so they will be in good time.

I'm a big fan of forums and communication and you'll definitely be seeing a lot of posts from me around here. :) Keeping communication lines open between players, devs, and all of our teams is definitely important.
What do you do when the devs just simply ignore players' cry for help about the botse everywhere in lineage 2? what do you do?
Im slightly lost as to what the topic is of the thread hehe. Is this the new what do we need to do to the website (ya know the thread you promised for today ;) )? if so here are what id like to see:
1. Updated Skills
2. Updated Weapons w/SA Crystals
3. Updated SA List with better descriptions
4. Updated Server maintenance
5. Updated look => The NC West Lineage 2 page is very dark and drab. I think some of the appeal of the Korean site is that it is bright and showy. Kinda like its been bedazzled lol. Draw the attention in with sparkle and shine and all that ^_^ I dont want a hello kitty website but ya get where im going brighter colour's then the dark gold and dark blue.
6. Updated GM backgrounds i saw once on this site somewhere "Meet the team" i think it was called.
7. Make it so my Internet Explorer doesn't freeze up when i try to look at the weapons/armor section of library.
8. Monster list in Library Hasn't been updated since "Interlude"!
9. Add new evolutions of Pets to Pets Section in Library
10. Add Kamalokas to the Instance Dungeons/Areas
11. Update Crating Recipes
Additional things to Add
1. Download able Background in .doc format or rich text format
2. If possible later a place like castle list of who has control; but for fortresses and whether they have signed with or against a castle etc.

Sure they own it. But they don't own the people posting, everyone can complain as much as they like here until they get banned from the forum. They'll delete threads and posts as they see fit. But they can't stop people from making them. If people are unsatisfied they'll say something about it, no matter silly rules.
ok ST - you are right they do not own the I.P. rights of a poster (could be wrong ... any US atty please correct me), but your logic does not fit. We have limited access to post on the forum - that is it, nothing more. In the end, they still have the right to edit as they see fit since it is their (NCSoft) forum. It would no different than if you had a blog, where people could post responses, but you as the admin have the ability to edit/delete/ban people from the blog - anyone coming to your blog has zero rights - the same thing here.
Now saying that, over the years, the "delete post/thread" button by the forum mods is not used as much as it used to be in the past.

Jesus man .... shes been with us a total of two working days what the heck do you want? Someone who comes in and repairs crap in 2 days? that aint gonna happen. Since it is in her job description as a community manager to moderate the forums yes shes doing it correctly. I for one will assume, as its not her first go around as a community manager, that she knows what shes doing and is going to do things Right not just Right now. No doubt she will take her time with us and be patient as we are like a bunch of rowdy kids who have been at camp parent less and have come home still jacked up on sugar.
Ill be the first to admit NC Soft's lack of doing anything on many fronts frustrates me to the point of several rants in forums. But in the past 2-3 months Omega has come in told us of 3 new hires, the fact that the company has finally completely settled into what i assume will be a routine by now, that they did mess up on an event(did that fairly quickly with the squash event) and im seeing movement from our new CM that she will control the boards nicely; We cant really hold it against moxie / other guy that things weren't getting done its not their jobs to moderate forums and take in feedback from the community, the good news is that we have a voice now in Lyzira who will speak with the company and be able to get things done for us like the event problems/game glitches/ etc.

Yes I agree and everyone knows theres lots that can be worked on and improved. But for those that act like spoilt kids, try posting constructively instead, you will find it actually helps rather than just ******* people off.

I realize that its going to take some time for some to get used to since the rules have been a little lax around here lately but it will make the boards a more enjoyable and useful place in the long run. If only people would post a picture of a cute kitten every time they wanted to talk about bots in the wrong place...it sure would make everyone smile a lot more :)

Seriously, you can always ignore me or anyone else who you feel is being uncharacteristicly rude to anyone. I doubt they care, and I know I don't.
It is their forum.. they can do what the heck they want... not playing any side, but the truth is.. they own it, they decided what stays and goes. To this day, I am stunned that people do not realize this. Is it right or wrong from a PR standpoint, who knows.

I am sure you will be the exact same, and in another 6 months time we will see someone (probably not announced by Omega, because that person has changed quite a few times as well) introduced as the new lord and savior of the L2 community.

Ncsoft Na is only 5 years late on this, we can already find all the content you are asking us to send to you at lots of good websites that are updated daily, where people care about the comunity and had a hard work feeding all the material... For a long time players expected this from ncsoft and we simple got nothing except some piece of crap explanations. Maybe if you guys give us a decent website with detailed content of the basics the comunity can change and think in help you guys.

Alyra was great (and awesome at helping getting the good fansites out there), though what exactly was wrong with Mistryl?
Mistryl was a forum ****. She locked or deleted any thread that even looked like it had the possibility of going the wrong way, long before it actually did. We weren't allowed to have discussions or express dislike for NCsoft at all, even if it was civil. Alyra on the other hand, allowed us to actually discuss things and only locked threads when it was necessary. Although it's kinda awful for me to make the comparison, going from Mistryl to Alyra was like leaving a communist country and coming to America. Freedom of speech is something we value here, but is not allowed in other countries.
If we even started to criticize NCsoft, Mistryl would delete the thread. With Alyra, we could ask questions about the game or why the devs decided to do something and she'd actually try to ask them and return an answer to us, even if it was just "I don't know". Mistryl took any questions as criticisms and deleted or locked the threads.
Also, we had more events (and more varied/new events) in just a few months of Alyra than we had the entire time Mistryl was CM.
And just as a side note, some might think it's good, others bad, but Mistryl perma-banned tons of people from the forums w/o blinking. That's one reason why orphus got so big back in the day (and now blah), cuz all those people got perma-banned from the forums. Some actually deserved it, some didn't really and would never be banned if they posted the same things today. People are rarely banned from these forums anymore, even when they deserve it much more than those other players did. There's a certain poster I'm thinking of that would have been perma-banned long ago if Mistryl was still CM. That, at least, I think would improve the forum. But like I said, this point is debatable whether it's good or bad. I kinda lean towards wanting a few more bannings now, but just not the mass bannings.

odd...thats exactly what i liked about Mystryl. don't get me wrong, Alyra was a great CM too, they just did their jobs in different ways, and maybe when the game started out it needed to be a bit more rough around the forums...i mean would you really want 6 people making absurd polls every day of the week? its bad enough to have 1.
also: wasn't "Siren" was the other (temporary) CM?
off topic: there is no freedom of speech in America. it only seems that way, because the "speech police" know that no one is listening to you. in order to be heard, you need to assemble. and you'd be suprised how fast you get shot down for the crime of 'peaceably assembling'.

I need to take the opportunity and ask a question Iv been thinking of for long.
Lineage2 Dev Team must have some list of "things" they either verified as bugs or other issues. Also a "Ah-cool-idea-we-send-to-NC-Seul"-list.
Why not share this bug related information with the community so "we" don’t have to ask that question over and over again? Also, address this when a patch is supposed to fix a known bug.
Would also be cool to have a public list of ideas that is good enough to be nominated as a possible future change.
Last question. Any future plans to west-alize Lineage2 abit to attract new players to Lineage2?
