I was really apprehensive about the Free Trials coming back again seeing as how badly they were abused the last time. Well it seems they're being abused again? I'm not sure, unless someone/somebot is risking their active accounts in order to spam.
I was under the impression that Free Trial accounts had severely limited chat rights. Is something different? Perhaps this person wasn't using a trial account. (Anyone from Sayha who was on around 11pm Eastern last night near the Giran GK knows what/who I'm talking about)
I hate that kind of spam! Drives me bonkers. And PS: For those of you who work for those companies that might be reading this, you aren't annoying people into buying your "service," you're just Ticking them off LOL spam =/= effective advertising. its insane these toons dont get banned on the spot. my petition gets answered (automatically) and its 12-24 hrs before the toon stops. im fairly sure im not the 1st person to /gm also so your looking at a 30 hr span from info to action...
you really should have someone whos job it is to jus read through "bad user" petitions and handle the ones that should be instant ban and send the more difficult ones to a folder for further investigation
It is quite easy to stop them... if NCSoft wants it. You cannot ban them fully but can censure the names of the sites... so they will stop to spam themselves when it becomes useless.
Also, I'm sitting here and they are still doing it. Either they aren't banning them, or they're using multiple accounts and connecting via a proxy.
And about just GM'ing it, I am doing that -- the problem is their response time isn't very good. I mean, what research do you have to do? Let's say, even hypothetically (although it has happened for real before) that Person "B" logged on Person "A's" account and did something stupid to purposefully get them banned (ie, spam for adena sites). So ban the account, even if only temporarily, to spare everyone else from having to look at that .
Do petition answering GM's not have a ban option? Is that only higher tiered support? Cause , it's not like the game is crashing and needs top-tier support this very second, but it sure is hella annoying LOL :P

It spams white chat with a 30 second interval and is replaced as soon as it's banned.

I just saw another one of these at Kamael village tonight. Was one of the typical , phggp type names spamming Adena selling chat in normal white chat. Annoy people to come to your site is a very brain dead idea to market.

Btw, lowly little Pirates of the Burning Sea gets this right. You right click on the name in chat, a menu drops down. One choice is "report toon for chat violation" or some such.
You report, a minute later the toon disappears when the in-game GM checks that it was he/she shouting.
No appeal, no delay, probably next to no mistakes. *poof*.....toon gone.

After two weeks post statistic how many accounts log off while GMLIST changes :P
They should just do what other games do... If they have GM's in the CS department handling petitions, they should have even just 1 "Community Specialist" who just goes in world and does things in game. Every game I've ever worked for has had at least one of those, even if they work part time 20 hours a week. Just having someone "official" in world on a regular basis really has an impact.

It's disgusting what these sites do, but it's even worse that it's allowed to happen. It just seems like they'd get frustrated eventually if the GM's were closing accounts or muting the characters.
What's so bad about this is there is a legit section of the community that benefits from Trial Accounts -- but it's abuses like these that kill it for everyone.
I think I'm going to start taking that suggestion and going to spam their 24/7 live support.
We should coordinate a spam attack on their live support lines. pssst... Sace, look the other way, pretend you don't see this... haha
The REASON these sites use trial accounts to spam their sites is because PLAYERS support those sites, by selling them adena for real money and by buying adena to use in game.
This isn't a "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" scenario.
Players, generally very experienced and substantial players, cause this MARKET to exist! Period.
If no one sold to them or bought from them, they wouldn't exist. The problem here, as much as it falls back on NCSoft, is that your fragile fellow players just can't play the game straight up.
You want to crush NCSoft for allowing this--fine. Just spread equal venom to your little cheating buddies who CAUSE these services to exist.

We're seeing the same increase that you are. We'll be stepping up our monitoring of the towns and hopefully have these spammers removed quickly. Please continue to report them using /gm so we can help get rid of them as quickly as possible.

If you log on to franz (and I assume most other servers) and are near the Giran gk, you will see multiple characters with names like "FHJEWHF" or "Fsdfssa" spamming every 3-4 seconds long white chat messages advertising adena sale sites.
You ask players not to buy adena but then you fail to take PROMPT action to reduce adena sales. If you did ban these advertisers within 1 hour of their first spam message, rather then ?5-7 days later, then it would hurt their profitability. Right now it is so lucrative for these actions, there are multiple companies competing with each other in Giran, not to mention other towns.
My question....why does it take so long to ban these accounts? My clanmates and I have petitioned these players and still see the exact same chars ingame a few days later. I understand it taking time to take action against "real" players who use 3rd party programs, but that is simply not the case here.
Suggestion #1 - add "report an adena seller" type to the current Petition system. That petition queue could be monitored once/hr by a GM who could take immediate action against the account upon verifying the ingame chat of the player involved.
Suggestion #2 - have an entry level employee log into each server and check Giran or other key locations for these activities. It shouldn't take a highly trained GM to take action against these accounts which are almost surely trial accounts, and their violations are so clear. I would suggest it takes less then 30 minutes to log in and out of each server, list the names of the "players" involved and ban their accounts.
These changes require a very small amount of effort from NC Soft and would make a difference to improving our servers.

Why shall they ban those accounts which are paid and make money? Buisness is buisness, and ncsoft has proved enough they only care about that. Even last bot-hunt was just a commercial move, as you can see nowadays the ful-bot-competition has start again.
L2's slowly dyin (from EU/NA servers point of view), and i wont bet on ncosft after L2. Never 1 single cent.

You should take a look at Star Trek Online.
It used to be flooded with spammers (even in open beta lol), but after they added some server side checks the spam is down to 1 in game mail a week (from 10 a day) and the chat is almost free of spam.
Players can right click on the spammers name and report it as a spam, if enough people report it the spammer gets chat banned until a GM checks it out and if extremely many are reporting the spammer then it's auto baned.
Also the spammers account gets added to your ignore list so you are ignoring all chars created on the given account.

Apart from around 75%+ of the private shop standing up and sitting down fully restocked at regular interwals, auto shouting in regular interwals, standing up and sit back down with a completely new shop if you happen to buy/sell the last thing the shop had, the SE/EE's that starts to recharge the dwarfs as soon as you start to craft on them, the shots shops that craft and sell 24/7 with 1 or 2 rechargers giving mp 24/7...
I have reported quite a few adena spammers by sending a messages to the GMs on 'illegal program use.' In every case, the GM responded in a timely manner and they removed the spamming toon. I was impressed how consistently quickly they resolved every issue.

I haven't been home to play for about 3-4 days--but like Rumpunch, thursday evening (EST) in Giran I petitioned one of these guys and I got a "thank you" reply in less than a minute and the toon disappeared.

I haven't really experienced the spam in L2 but Aion had this when it first launched in spades.
It was so bad that one couldn't look at the chat box and read anything. However, they implemented a few things and it's practically gone. And I no longer get any type of mail spam at all. so I don't know why they just don't implement these changes to l2.
However, another thing players might consider is actually reporting them. Every gold spam store advertisment that I came across I reported. And usually with 30 minutes to a few hours they were gone. I have an e-mail box just filled with their multiple responses which.
Of course that would also have to mean that NC is just as dilligent in cleaning up the spam as they have been in Aion.

If you experience this again in the future, can you please PM me the name of the spamming toon you have reported that was not removed along with the server name? I know this might be an inconvenient extra step you have to take and I apologize for that. However, I would really like to research these types of oversights so we can correct any kinks we might have in our process of identifying and removing spammers.
This goes for anyone else who sees the SAME toon in-game spamming for a long period of time. A long period of time can be considered more than a few hours. Ideally, these will be taken care of much faster, but for the sake of this type of investigation on my part, a few hours would warrant a closer look.
I noticed that the ones i /GM is gone after a while. Some times it takes a little longer.
I don't think i seen toons with the same names though.
A little question though. Is the spammers free accounts that are signed up? That is my guess atleast or else it would cost the spammers alot of money to have that service going.
