LF Server Merge Update

General Discussion Started Last reply 33 posts
Now that Freya is on the way and going live by the end of the month. Going back to the fun we've all been waiting for and looking for a better ETA on when server merges will happen. Seeing as September will be 3 months since announced and Sace said it will be before 6 months. So, we've shortened merges to September-November.

Still no word on when, I'm sorry. The soonest would be in a little over a month, because we want to give you 1 month notice before the merges actually happen. The latest... I would like to say before 6 months. I'd even say its 80% chance it will happen before 3 months from now. But the very reason that we haven't announced dates is because the dates and plans keep on changing. Therefore, speculate at your own risk. We will announce the dates when they are definite.
thx

If 80% chance is true then it should be September, seeing as you created that post on 07-02-2010

What month will server mergers take place?

What servers will be merged?
What part of "We will announce the dates when they are definite" did you not understand?
well at least i know there are server mergers being planned. Although in my opinion whoever is in charge of the decision for server merges is really just not on the ball here.

It should be a well known fact that time is money, and delay is essentially a loss of time, which is a loss of money, not only for ncsoft, but for their customers to. The customers will be spending money on things they are not happy with, and when the customer feels that they are Losing out, they will quit.

These mergers should have happened a long time ago. L2 should pretty much be 1 server by now. It's a shame that a game many of us do have fun in, and think has really come a long way is not taking the logical approach and trying to keep up with the obvious necessities in order to keep the game FUN.

So while yes asking for an update after they said they will tell us when is rather impatient and childish, don't you feel you have the right to ask? Why is it always "when they know." The GM's should be down here with us, playing the game and communicating with us just like they were players, but that is the main issue, the gm's don't really seem to be interested in the game all that much. Just my observations, and opinion.

The part where I ask a GM something and get a responce from you. Do you really think I care about what you have to say? lul, you're probably one of those people who are emo about merges and don't want them to happen.

My opinion of merges has nothing to do with Community managers not giving us info until something is definite.

You will just have to wait like the rest of us.

Sace will communicate it to us when she has more info.
why would anyone not want a server merge? i mean everything server's status is always light, i dont ever see busy servers, ever.

i play on phenoix. i mean im still low lvl but back when people played there was people everywhere! i mean i used to have to watch my back at places like forgotten temple, cruma area, even starting villages!!

i used to log everytime i see somebody with a strength bow coming at me from afar!

now ****, lol its been a week and i havent seen not another player, hell even the bots are missing!

i know theres no way the game will be how it was when it first came out. but i miss the real fun of l2 you know. running amuk the place and just pvp/pk whatever you wanna call it, just **** with people.

somebody died and he get his buddy and i get this and that and that and this. now i just want vitality points and hopefully i get to where majority of the players is so at least i can see other players run around town or something.

Go read the other threads full of people asking the same question...Oh, and Sace giving the same answer. Tool.

That was back in, like, C5. At most, I've seen Teon or Franz go to the Medium level once or twice since then. The US servers? always Light.

Yeah...you won't ever see that in Phoenix. Not anymore. Everyone's ctrl keys are broken, it seems.
why would anyone not want a server merge?
First of all, NCsoft wouldn't. The situation when server merges are declared but not carried on helps to retain both the players who want it and the players who don't want it.

There's exactly 1 mob worth killing in the Forgotten Temple. With 24 hours of respawn time. Server merges won't bring more people there.
Is it the raid on the blue side or the one on the red side?
Red side.

I am just curious where did you get your info that Freya will be live at the end of this month? I could not find any official posting of this. However Sace did post server mergers would be after freya goes live http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=210052 .

either way, marketing wise, they should have done Freya + Mergers together, and done one of those reactivate inactive accounts in good standing for free for a week events. Only way to entice old players to come back IMO and maybe breathe some life back into the game
Sorry, but who sayed that there will be a merging and which servers? I am just bored to browse all tyhis topics so i just ask

The only way life could be breathed back into the game is if God did it again.

Maybe L3 will do it

The fact NCSoft NA has probably adopted this line of thinking is precisely the problem ... they have a golden opportunity to get people hooked to the game again, new content and presumably a reshuffle of server populations and server politics. That's the definition of a game changer. They don't have an advertising budget to reach out to new players, fine, here's a free way to reach out to people that have already invested in the game ... but they don't do it. They hope the people that quit lineage 2 x months ago will somehow navigate their way to www.lineage2.com and find out about mergers and new content. It's just ... you know ... bury your head in the sand and hope it all turns out ok.

"Reshuffling" the population is only going to frustrate people. Server politics is whatever. They should have advertised the game when they had the chance, but this game is past its prime, and it seems like mimicking WoW content is the only way these devs think they will get any sort of respectable numbers in their player base back. They had a golden opportunity years ago, and they blew it. Merging the servers isn't a "free way" to reach out to people, because some people don't like change, and merging while in the midst of a major update is a good way to destroy the already fragile economy on every server, and in the end, tick off a number of people still playing the game.
Server mergers don't attract new players. THey may attract some older players that are bored, and perhaps some of their friends. But most people see server mergers in a bad light. When they see mergers, they think "dying," especially when it's the second merger and people on the "public" forums have been complaining about population issues for a year or more...

most people? Speak for yourself.

besides with current server pop, no dragons will be killed on NA servers. HENCE THE ENTIRE REASON FOR MERGES. You dont add content and have people not be able to acess it because their server has 200 players on it.
Merging servers is not necessarily to make the user happy. Most companies reduce their hardware to reduce their cost. Let’s be real, any company that is not working to lower their cost of operation and increase their profits won’t be around for very long. If it makes you happy and able to sleep at night just keep thinking the mergers are to make your game experience better.

it is why your server phoenix will be merged again :)

and the most people already left the game, for exemple ashley hunter, nana dwarf, the girafe guys, etc

myself i loose many friends

so the most people with +2 years experience game have left since long time and continue to leave :)

He is right. Second merge in a row is a bad sign to everyone but a handful of addicts.

No dragons will be killed on NA servers if you merge them at Freya update, because most people will quit before the time when the dragon are killable again. Merging them after NC Korea nerfs the dragons might do the trick... for a couple of months.
Except my point had nothing to do with whether people like mergers or not. My point was ... since they are doing mergers AND launching a new update it would have been a free opportunity to market the game again to those thousands of people that quit it for whatever reason.

They did the free reactivation thing way back when the game was celebrating it's 5th anniversary, what I said was ... fire up an email to all those inactive accounts, tell them hey we have a new update AND we are merging servers here come play free for a week, see if you like lineage 2 again. Some will a) learn about what's going on, cause currently there's no "buzz" about the game so unless you are already subscribed you learn nothing and b)some might actually enjoy the changes and resubscribe.

Sure beats hoping they happen to be browsing the lineage 2 forums and hear about the mergers and new update.
No sane service provider would do 2 such big changes at once. Update the servers, iron out all the update bugs, then merge. Or vice versa. But not together.
Iron out the update bugs that have already been ironed out in 4 different lineage 2 territories for the past 6 months? You realize all we get that's different is text localization right?

Anyways ... whatever
Never seen NCsoft updates before? They are always 6 months old and are always buggy with those 6 months old bugs.
Mergers look bad to the outside, if people who don't play look at the game a merge = lowing customers = dying game. But they might help the population a bit since theres more people, a better market, more pvp and so on. Although the first few months will be rocky.

Imo the worst thing to happen to the game was transfers not mergers. Once people could transfer huge clans and allies moved servers, dead ones became more dead, populated ones got full of griefers and gankers and people became isolated and lost. History of your character is quite important in L2, friends, enemies and so on..... once you transfer you might as well of just come out of a bot train and have no connections to the world at all. As these clans move about more and more people quit because they now don't know anyone and are in "foreign worlds" and more quit because their friends left the servers. That's what happened with the 100+ people I transferred with, 95% of them are back to their old servers or outright quit!

I hope that they are merging servers now to create space for new F2P servers, keeping the old servers as traditional and the new ones with a new system, XP boosts, free to play, etc. Will give L2 a truly new life without affecting our game since you'd still have to pay to play the traditional servers (and get "perks" in the free ones), It's called Freemium and it works well.
I personally think alot of players haven't witnessed what happened after the first server merges.

When the 1st merges arrived i was all for it (more population = better working mmo, etc).
It was indeed good for a short time, but then after a while ppl were quitting left and right due to merges (nameconflicts, clanhall loss, clan conflicts, etc, etc) until we were back at the population we had before the merges.

So now here we are again for the 2nd merge round.
Same situation but less servers, same thing will happen for sure, it will look all good at start, then ppl will quit left and right again (and by that time probably another merge with even less servers)

No thx.
Currently, there is no news about the upcoming server merges. They will happen, but we are still configuring tests, scripts and projected statistics to determine the optimal merge plan.

As always, once we know, we will tell you ASAP.

For any questions or opinions about the server merge, you can find pretty much every possible opinion already voiced in the official Server Merge thread (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=209182), which will remain locked until we have an official update for you.
