If there will only be eight, "Awakened," classes... what was the point in leveling as each specific class from level one all the way up to eighty-five?
I've played Lineage 2 with brief absences since the game was released. Prelude until C3. C5 until ?.
I came back just before the Dynasty Weapons were handed out as a reward for shelling out yet another fifteen dollar fee.
I'm okay with the game being FTP which opens up the player community to a massive flow of new players.
I'm okay with the level cap and new gear again. I'm excited about that actually.
What I really hate hearing and find much distaste towards, is the fact that every class will now be generalized into another generic MMO archetype.
Why would they chose to do this?
Why is the feature of an amazingly beautiful and diverse game be pushed into such a simple and basic system?
When I played Dark Age of Camelot, Lineage 2, Everquest 2 vs games such as World of Warcraft, Aion and more.
I liked the diversity, I liked the different title. I liked the fact that every race, every class, every character had their own special quirks that made them unique.
I'm not happy with what I'm hearing and waiting to see in the upcoming update. If somebody here has a better understanding or reasoning to justify why this is going to take place on a game that's remained competitive on the market for seven years, please explain here.
Please, don't tl;dr this, if you are going to troll or post wall-of-text comments. Do it else where. I'm simply looking for enlightenment on the subject or better yet, some positive outcome that will make me enjoy the game more, like I have been.
Man....Why so defensive? Anyway....There is a GoD section of the forums where you can read alot of information on the coming update. I think the discussions there will cover most of your questions.

yes, l2 will be completly diffrent game when god hits live. Why the developers change the game that way and dont stay on the path keeping the unique strengh of the old game concept - i dont know.
EvE has profen that there are successful "other" mmorgs besides that mainstream stuff we will get very soon.
afraid this is old news and when it was first found out from the korean pts a nouncements many posts like this were made but only here, koreans were happy with it and we get what they get so moot point..
the GoD changes combined with all the mess since then later here @NCWest has made lot's of players quit/go inactive so you would not be the first nor the last.

well its not exactly that simple. while there are 8 classes, there are quite a lot of ways to successfully use those classes, as the various races introduce specific and very different (not minute) passive bonuses. for example, Orc Enchanters have immunities where Elf enchanters do not. IMMNUNITIES. not resists.
ok, sometimes those bonuses are seemingly quite small - a la 1% pvp bonus of Kamael. however theres a TON of ways to stack that 1% with specific gear, to make it viably 10%.
despite it seeming to be a game similar in sooooo many ways to other 8 archetype games, this actually diverges as mentioned by others in that the different Races and 3rd classes hold slight differences for 4th class. a Swordsinger Enchanter will actually have 1 or 2 skills remaining post-awakening that are learned from pre-85 levels. this flavour Enchanter is inherently different from BladeDancer Enchanter not solely based on racial passives but also actuall skills.
uniqueness is not uncommon in this regard.
despite that, subclass skill builds also will sway the direction and success of your 4th class.
i quite doubt you will find two similar Warriors once GoD goes live; uniquely because each one can wield almost any weapon, so using whats at hand and ready will at least for the first few months be a key factor in the power of each group.
When we heard about changes in god,we all complained a lot. Some of us have say byebye to the toon we played for so man years, like my toon necro. But koreans decided without us...
Subclass skills and racial skills that will change the performance of a main class,is something that will make many of us to delete/change subs.Is it boring to have to delete/remake?
To me yes.God upate in total makes all my efforts in previous years to lvl with 0 vitality pointless. The good news are,we will do get main/subclass free changes and vitality items from events and nc store will make it fast.
We already had roughly 8 or 9 classes, just the each Race called it something different, so does it really matter? DD will still be DD, Tank will still be Tank, etc. Just that instead of having to come up with 5 variations of the same skill, they can name it once and be done with it.
while having 40+ classes is interesting and cool, it doesn't work well in an mmo because people are pretty simple and predictable. There are always only a few classes that a lot of ppl play, and other classes are underplayed. For instance, duelists and adventurers are a dime a dozen, summoners are very rare. So while it's nice to have this large variety of classes that are all different, it's creates imbalance because there isn't an equal number of people playing each class.
another issue is that, once people figured out the most balanced, strongest, most efficient party setup, that is all they will use and if you aren't one of the needed classes no one wants you. For instance, this ideal party setup is: Cardinal, EE, DC, BD, SWS, +4 DD. ALL other classes that aren't those supports or unpopular DD will not be partied. So we have a huge demand in this game for only those specific supports, and any other support class is ignored. And there is always a glut of DD because more people like to play DD classes than support classes. there are a few people who like to play supports but they are rare, far too rare to support the 5chars/party of supports required atm. So usually if you play any summoner, or unpopular dd (dorf, tank, archer) or unpopular support (dc, pp), you will have a very hard time getting party and a lot of pressure from clan to sub one of the 5 favored supports and then a lot of pressure to only play that. = no fun.
While reducing the number of classes to 8 seems like it might be lame, it is more realistic for mmo play, knowing human nature, because people just won't play certain classes and a lot of people just won't play support. So condensing bd/sws/dc to 1 class will be very helpful, because you will need 1/3 less ppl on enchanter in general, and you will only need 1 enchanter for party instead of 3/9 chars (one third of party) to do that job. Also, Cardi/EE becomes merged so there will only be needed 1/2 of current healer types, so instead of 2/9 players being "healer" now only need 1/7.
So really the update will be good because now you only need 2 supports out of 7 in party to get a proper party, and you can fill the other 5 slots with DD of which there is always a ton, which is more in line with what people actually play (more DD, less support). ATM having 5/9 supports and only 4 dd per party has been forcing people with DD mains to get on support sub to make functional parties for years, and yes it's really dang annoying.
Another thing I laugh about is that the 7 person/party is perfect because then you can omit summoner which I think people still won't play very much. But there will be plenty of warrior, nuker, rogue, tank, archer (in that order imo). The order may vary according to how gimp or strong a class is after update hits tho; for instance rogue could go down in popularity and tank and archer more popular if they are seen to be strong. Warrior might be gimp but I think people will continue to play it because that is simply the most popular archetype period.
I just retired my 85.100/80/80/80 because I don't know what class to take it to at update and there is no future for the class as it is beyond 85.

By far the best response to a question I have ever seen on this or any forum. You are the winner!!
by reducing the classes from 46 to 8, we get less specific about dds.
we now have what? 5 DD types.
Summoner, dagger, warrior, archer... nuker.
while we get enchanters tanks and healers who can all deal damage also, but are not as strong.
i see it as being really Melee types, archer and nukers.
so party setups will change, the question will be how long before we find the best setups? how will clans like Bregan fair when Constant parties are suddenly changed to accommodate new classes, and reduced numbers.
i wonder though, if race will become a large factor in Goddess.
certain races with their afinity for element, and different stats.
of course there are tattoos, but will these stats be deciding factors?
in theory, it will be easier to get a party, and pickup groups will be more widely accepted. but we really need to see it before we can determine exactly how well the new game will be playable.
I don't think classes are going to matter as much as people think they are. While you have different stat bonuses here and there to make your heals better, crits harder, or whatever other variable you have I don't think that it's going to be the huge substantial difference that everyone is worried about.
Yes, the difference between a few dex here, or STR there might make you a slightly better DPS end game if you get some lucky crits but a D. Elf against a Human/Elf all stacked in end game gear are still going to do freakishly good dps that in my opinion it wont matter.
In my opinion the devs narrowing the classes down was long overdue. Why? Because look at the severe imbalances that go on now in game. As BlakWulf said there are certain classes that some people play over others and there is a pretty large disparity when it comes to it. Why roll X class when you can roll X class and do the exact same thing. For example you have Sorcerer and a Spellhowler. Why make a Sorcerer when the Spellhowler is arguably a lot better than its counterpart?
The narrowing of the classes allows more people to actually get into groups they were denied before. It makes the game a lot less diverse yes, but a lot more friendly for the masses. The game is still going to be the same old L2, just a lot more player friendly in my opinion.
that list isn't 100% accurate anymore and it doesn't mention the skill re use time of those that aren't passives which is if i remember it right like 10min or so..
once I find back the article ChildOfHeaven wrote on them I might repost them here as she did some extensive testing on them :)
Well, here's to hoping they add an option to be viable at 99 as a 3rd job :P if not I don't think I'll be sticking around.
You can keep on leveling up to level 99 as the 3rd job, no problem with that. Your skills and damage output won't be enough for you to solo in the +85 areas, but you can still party with people and leech... :D

Haha yah but would I be worth having in PvP at all?

Only against other 3rd job toons (which you would slaughter, due to the level difference), but you won't be able to lay a scratch in a awaken toon, sorry :(
Even a 85 Aeore healer can kill ANY 3rd job toon... the difference is HUGE.
The only thing I don't like about GoD update is the fact that they made the enchanter stuff so girly >< Like really... Pink cape and what I'm pretty sure is the most Pony-esque horse out of the entire lot... I just have the need to call it Chestnut or Clippity-Clop... I know my PP isn't exactly the manliest of characters, but do you really gotta deck him out in Pink? ><

Rejoice, your PP is manlier that any Eva Templar over there... I do not need to mention the SWS singing, now do I?
Zoc when enchanter does skills u will see small fairies fly around like thinkerbell.. no joke.. but hey that's what u get when most enchanter players in korea are female ^^"
@Lux no hatin on ze male sws, trust me my human gladi with sws sub was way more **** doing songs.. :P

+1 on this, I've seen videos and little angels fly down, blowing vuvuzelas on your ears, every time you buff. O_O

I picked SWS to my Cardinal because I like support classes and she is a girl and guess what... She look more manlier than any Light Elf dancing around the mother tree...
In another hand, you can make a Female Human Fighter and she will always look more manlier than even Male Human Mystics... I can't tell a Female DN from a Male DN without zooming in a little...
There are no skills that are being removed on human after the awakening.
They will acquire aim, mental, persistence and activity skills.
Aim: increased accuracy, reduced chance of getting hit with critical damage
Mental: increased magic defense, increased p-attack and m-attack.
Persistence: Neutralizes Poison/bleed/hold/stun status and become immune to them for certain period of time.
Activity: Increased HP & MP restoration bonus
Orcs are not humans. What you said was wrong. It does not matter if another race shares the ability you thought orcs had. Orcs do not have them, what you said was wrong. You were wrong. Get over it.

Will be interesting to see how this can be spun in ones favor.

i was right and nothing you say or do can change that fact.

from the patch notes by Cryo:
Orc
Undying Will
When the character's HP falls below a certain amount, the caster becomes immune to damage for a certain period of time. After the effect is activated, there is a delay before it can be reactivated again.
