Since Korea/China/Russia IP ban us from using their servers cant we do the same to them? I was hacked by a Russian IP obviously they are not playing on our servers, and since they have their own shouldn't they be blocked from logging on ours?
Also I think its time for us to revisit the security features again since they have learned to bypass them again.
Well, there are some players from the countries you mentioned.
Quite some Russian players play here that I know of, and I also saw some Japanese/Korean clan around as well.
Did your friends visit those adena selling sites? Otherwise I can't really see how those adena sellers could be related of hacking. (Well, also if you visited such sites I'm pretty sure GMs won't be willing to help you much)
Monitor I got the virus that hacked me from another L2 forum site and have not gone back there since. SO you do not have to visit adena sites, it just they become more aggressive when they need money so they get more creative.
use latest firefox with noscript plugin active and you should be safe from most web viruses.
And from most of web as well :-) Unfortunately most webs have javascripts and flash everywhere. It's annoying unlocking site elements, but you can get used to it after a while.

Been playing this game since pretty much the beginning, and have yet to meet anyone that was supposedly 'hacked' who had not been either careless with their account information, and or shared it... The fact that this happened to a few within your own clan and alliance makes the idea of hacking even more questionable... Sorry, I just don't believe people get hacked, it's always been a case of them either being careless or stupid with their account information.

There's no way you get hacked, unless someone gets access to your computer somehow or you shared your account info, or you used the same info everywhere.

Well don't be quick to criticize those who claim to have been hacked,
Real 100% hacking means someone hacks NCsoft and steals their password file and reverse engineers it slowly, but will eventually get them all. This has happened already, I believe, back in 06 or 05 when everyone had to change their password.
I hope this isn't the case, cause I really hate the whole resetting thing. Im pretty sure I've lost some security questions for 1 or 2 of my accounts.

My account has been stripped also. I'm playing on a brand new computer that I have not even been on the internet with. Strictly for gaming.
Don't be so ignorant to call us cheaters, I've been around longer than most of the people in this thread, just took a prolonged break.
If you use <ranger name here> ot <battleping name here> you can also be hacked. Why? Because all your packets going through their servers. Since they can encrypt L2 packets, with old as world encrypting system, they can know your login and password. Some of such servers alowed by NCWest, like Battleping, some not. Some adena sellers mirght have troyans or scripts on their web pages ... Your little brother or best friend can stripe your char, or your lovely wife, like I my case ...

If demand was on the rise then wouldn't prices be rising as well? Or at least maintaining? I've noticed the spammers and the thing that makes me laugh is the prices are going down daily.

Wrong, me being hacked had nothing to do with that. I had more than enough adena and no need to visit such sites.
It is the most reasonable conclusion that your passwords are weak passwords.
If your password can be found in the dictionary (A book that lists the words of a language in alphabetical order and gives their meaning), it is a weak password.
Short password (< 8 chars), weak pass.
if your password is in all lower case, it is a weak password.
IF YOUR PASSWORD IS IN ALL UPPER CASE, IT IS A WEAK PASSWORD.
If your password is only letters, it is a weak password.
If your password is only numbers (many, MANY times worse than only letters), it is a weak password.
If your password does not UPPER CASE, lower case and numbers, it is a weak password
If your password can be described by one of the statements above, it is a weak password. You don't have to say if you fall under one of these categories, but just take your licks and use a better password. If it was not one of these, then there are three other possibilities:
You have some sort of spyware on your computer that is logging your passwords
You have given your password to someone else (friend, family, clan member, power leveling service, etc)
NCsoft has been compromised, and all passwords are in danger.
Of these three options, #1 and #2 are equally likely. I'd say there is a 99.99% chance one of these two happened. There is a 0.01% chance that NCsoft has been compromised. Please take care of your account information, and create strong passwords.

Hacking has nothing to do with Gameguard.
Let's look at a few things:
1. Gameguard is ****. A specific person has been releasing methods of disabling gameguard for as long as I can remember. She's quite talented and very good at it. After GoD's release, it took 2 days and she had a working disable for GG released. Hackers don't care about GG. Cheaters don't care about GG. No one cares about GG except NCSoft. I know people who disable GG just because they don't want it eating memory/cpu. Totally legit reason in my opinion. If you don't cheat, you shouldn't have to be forced to run the anti-cheat program. It only punishes people like you who have issues with it.
2. Gameguard is ****. It routinely flags non-hacking programs as hacking programs and is very sensitive to certain issues with computers.
3. Like another poster had mentioned, if you use a program to reduce your ping, play on an unsecured connection, etc, you are also at risk from that.
4. It doesn't matter how fresh or new your computer installation is or parts are. On a game server I run, there was a greek player who had set up a phishing website and been collecting usernames and passwords for SIX MONTHS. That's plenty of time for people to forget that one night, at 2am they entered their username/pass into his site and got phished. But they don't think anything of it because nothing happened to their account right away.
Seriously, hacking... REAL HACKING... involves gaining access to NCSoft's database or bruteforcing your password through multiple attempts (which I believe NCSoft prevents). If someone guesses your password because you were stupid, or a friend/family member who knows your login info ***** you over, that's not hacking. That's stupid.

Are you Blaming l2blah for your account being 'Hacked'? That website sees hundreds of L2 players a daily, and your the only person that managed to collect a trojan and get their account hacked from it...

It happened to my account nearly 2 years ago just after I started. First I knew about it was NCSoft contacting me to tell me they had locked my account as a precaution due to it being accessed from an IP in the Far East.
And, no, I have never bought adena, visited the websites that sell them or shared my account details even with the real life mate of mine who got me to play Lineage.
So it does happen. Luckily for me nothing was taken. Being a level 40 odd toon as I was at the time there was nothing *worth* taking. ;)
I logged into my account today, and I havent played maybe for about a week I tried to get on early last night, but servers were full so I tried today, I have been playing another game lately.
Anyways I logged in Found all my gear stripped from my character, all the valueable items were gone including all my armor etc, and across all my characters.
Most all the gold from my characters was also sold except for very little but everything worth millions was trashed. or given away or something.
I do not know if this is a server bug or an account **** but have to wait and find out. I do not share my account with anyone else, I have not done any third party trades, and no one else in my house even has access to this account, no friends nothing I am the only one except for whoever else might have done it.
Hopefully the GM's stop these stupid hackers or add an authinticator or something like Blizzard did I haven't played L2 for years really just came back recently a month before it went F2P, and I was fine until it went F2P.
I suggest using programs to block ads/sites of your choice. I know that people always say how they get hacked and all but thats never the case. Usually it's caused by ANYTHING from your email and if you use the links they are fake and when you give them information they redirect you to the site. Same thing applies to anything else giving you phishing websites. They looks almost the exact same but aren't. The best way to see if it's not fake is when you are on the login screen in your browser you should see a colored bar on the left of the url in your browser.
Im 100% sure none of you were hacked. Simply gave out your information or your passwords are of easy access. If anything the game could be having issues and may not be saving certain things and this is a case I have seen before with games. I've seen some weird things happen.
Edit: btw before you click on a link (EVER) always check the box on your browser that shows the actual destination since it can be hidden by HTML. It's normally on the bottom of your browser.

It seems to me this is the case where it is a lot of the older players who have returned to the game that it is affecting. This is terrible. I still have not received notice from the Senior GM regarding my account...hoping for something positive.

It may just be a bug with the game. I have seen these things before. A good reference is BF3, yes a completely different game but it has randomly changed people's stats to random levels (fixed now).
All I will say is that you have no proof exactly that you were absolutely, hands down hacked.
By the way just because you have good AV and everything doesn't mean you don't have anything lurking on your computer. I've had top notch programs and have still managed to get some nasty files by doing nothing but playing some games that everyone else plays.
The whole "****" word is totally over exaggerated and over used these days.
Edit: ALTHOUGH I wouldn't recommend much trade between players in game. I have known people to be able to snatch all your in game currency without the use of scam but other ways... Anything really is possible but there are many who say "I GOT HACKED ZOMG!!!" but they were really just PO'ed about something. I can tell you know your stuff but I still don't think anyone got your password for the most part.

I remind you that here is a server called NAIA populated by european players, so don´t be so fast at pointing anyone or asking for IP ban

It`s very possible to **** accounts without you giving your account info.
There are many ways : the adena sellers require your acc info on their sites(too easy ,must be really dumb to fall for this)
or
they make you download something from their site
they send you an email notification
simply makes you access a link
it reads everything you type/have on your pc including your accounts info when you log in game(let`s not mention other stuff like private things)
people who do this often are pro and this is really hard to detect even with your antivirus.
People should be more careful a not access this kind of sites,also i advice your friends to be more careful with the security of their PC .
you can get a keylogger trough everything,even a downloaded picture, a "friend" that send you a picture ,file etc in witch the keylogger it`s hidden , and many other methods.
Adena spammers have hacked the friend manager client in L2 already which is confirmed. So is it so hard to believe they can **** the login clietn info?
Don't forget they did 3 years ago and got almost everyone's info, when Ncsoft forced everyone to re-register their accounts.
And that week I wasn't the only one from Blah that got hacked was over 75 people. It only happened if you logged into your plaync account which I almost never do but I had to accept my Clan hall and thats how they got my main account info. Found the trojan 2 days after i got hacked when my virus definations updated (I was hacked on 11/10/10 and virus was added to the definations on 11/12/10 it was a completly new virus).
All those people were hacked by the same IP range, I asked for the information if it was US IP because i could press charges on them, however it was a far east IP. Nothing I can do legally.
GM told me there is a direct correlation in the rise in hackings when adena spam gets heavy in game. They know it and usually try to step up their security during this time. However with L2 going F2P 3 new servers opening, the GMs have their hands full right now.

Sorry about your misfortune, looks like you are joining a crowd of people...i am on day 6 of getting this escalated to a senior GM but still i have yet to receive info on it. I am sure it will take time and if it is a mass issue i am sure they are trying to get it resolved without raising to many eyebrows
But sadly if you played for 5 years and gone stripped and all you get back form ncsoft is 90 day common ****.. Not even an animalbone into your wh again. Empty wh and just 90 days common stuff is all you get
be careful of email scams linking you to a site asking you to verify your account due to a "security issue" I got a fake email tonight. NC would not lock your account down and then ask you to click a link to login. you'd be able to respond to a GM via email without any account info. If you aren't sure what the issue is close all your browsers and reopen a new one. Go directly to official site and login. I checked my accounts on official to be sure and there was no problem and my accts were fine. Never follow a link and provide info in emails.

There are SO many steps to "hacking" an account. You first have to figure out the account name, which, if you're like me, isn't even an actual word. My account name is just as bad as my passwords I use. The second is the process of figuring out the password. Which if you use a weak one, there is still some work at "brute forcing" the password out, since MOST people, will at least add a number or two in the password.
I'm sorry. Someone is lying somewhere along the lines to cover something up/save face/not be exposed.
In nearly every case of someones account getting compromised, which is what this is, they had a direct hand in facilitating the action.
Nothing you can do except say "you shouldn't have been a noob".

Some time ago, hacker changed the email address before they stripped the account. So that the warning went to the "new" email.
The original owner didnt recived a email back then from NCWest about the change of the emailadress.
All you can do is to keep ur virus detection up to date and change ur PW + MA PW regulary with a great password.

Well I changed my email address at one time I thought my email was compromised but wasn't.
1. No one seems to have tried to reset my password for NC Soft Master Account.
2. I just logged into my character and found a lot of my stuff missing all my valueable items a lot of junk was left in my bank with some of the cash, either that or a server area this was across all characters on my account.
3. I have not shared my account with anyone on the internet, anyone I know in RL only myself.
4. I have run a Virus, and Keylogger scan on my PC using two different programs and it shows it is clean besides a few things it thinks is a virus, but are not running in memory such as another MMO game I play.
5. I have not replied or clicked any of those links/phishing emails that ask for information.

Bottom Line is I am not sure if they can find out what happend, but I had my wow account stolen twice in the past, and the GM's were able to easily reset my skills as they bot, and changed my skill to mining from tailoring to like 400 +, and then returned all the exact gear that was missing twice it was easy for them to do, and if I lost I believe over 80Million in gear and such then I am going to take a post to the MMO boards outside L2's jursidction and say L2 Isn't safe for anyone because this game needs security, possibly a Authinticator like wow has to prevent keyloggers because after I got my Authinticator for wow and changed my password my account was never hacked again, or however they got the info which I suspect was from an addon I was using from Curse, although L2 doesn't have any addon's, and my Scanner detects no virus or keyloggers that it can find. Also everything I had on my character was enchanged not sure exactly how high anymore but most of it was +3 maybe some a bit higher, and its all gone.
So really I don't know how my stuff just mysteriously disappears from my account with no trace of where it went, hopefully whoever did it sent it to their own account, character or something and gets busted unless it was a server error but its all I know.

It's been known since Aion that at least some NC accounts have been compromised. Even if they never officially stated it. Any password you've used within the last 3years is suspect. All clannies I've talked to that have been hacked haven't change their pass in quite some time. These passes have been archived and passed around in compiled libraries.
I had my old NC pass cracked on Rift within 2 days of account creation/game release.
TL: DR Don't trust NC's security. Change your pass regularly regardless of your own personal security.
If memory serves there has been a major Aion sites got hacked a year or so ago. many people who use same id and password got hacked as the result. if you used to play Aion and have been to soem major Aion fan sites, bewared and amke sure you have changed your passwords.
Personally and i'll likely be the only person to admit this here, but the only time i've ever had an issue with my account being compromised was when I was (1) To stupid and didn't realize what I was do in my e-mails, (2) when I was not playing a game legit. IE (Botting or Buying money/items) from an online source. Read this again, you can be hacked even being a legit player who does not use illegal programs and such, just because are not aware about some things.
It`s very possible to **** accounts without you giving your account info.
There are many ways : the adena sellers require your acc info on their sites(too easy ,must be really dumb to fall for this)
or
they make you download something from their site
they send you an email notification
simply makes you access a link
it reads everything you type/have on your pc including your accounts info when you log in game(let`s not mention other stuff like private things)
people who do this often are pro and this is really hard to detect even with your antivirus.
People should be more careful a not access this kind of sites,also i advice your friends to be more careful with the security of their PC .
you can get a keylogger trough everything,even a downloaded picture, a "friend" that send you a picture ,file etc in witch the keylogger it`s hidden , and many other methods.

I totally ignore the spammers and naysayers, i know for a fact that most people have stayed legit and still have had their account compromised . So those people who keep stating "you must have used third party software" can just eff off, i know i did everything in my power to prevent this from happening...and i am sure you did as well..there is a security flaw somewhere...i dont know where or how but apparently it is there. This is clearly a security issue with NCsoft, and I wish people would stop blaming players for using weak passwords or any anything else. If they've managed to exploit Friend Chat, they can probably do the same to account database.

people post here also to warn others. I logged in last night to find my account stripped also. I have not used my logg in on any website and my second game account got left alone which does not suggest a keylogger.

i have played since C1 and know the coniditions under which people get hacked. I have only used same account for RIFT, which is fine (although disabled cause i stopped payment).
I have not used the account for any forums etc. First thing i did was raise a support tcket, unfortunally the live help of NCsoft cannot help on hacked accounts.
I have no clue how i got hacked, i have even went to school to prevent that kind of stuff and took any precaution i have learned, yet my account still got stripped.

Like i said in the other post, most people use the same account info for all their private servers. All a GM has to do is look through their player base account and password info and try logging in the accounts he has stored. Too easy

Its funny all of these posts that say "It's obviously your fault you got hacked, you must have done something wrong" sound just like those that were on the Rift forums when they had a rash of accounts being hacked. Of course it turned out that there was a way to backdoor an account using a players Forum ID number.
Moral of the story it isn't always the players fault, sometimes the company could have screwed something up that makes it a bit easier for the hackers to penetrate the account securities.
My 7 year old account was also stripped empty during the Christmas weekend. I know it probably was my own mistake for not changing the password after returning, should have done it. Still doesn't change the fact that it was compromised.
I too petitioned and now waiting for reply and hoping to get my things back. I didn't have high lvl characters or anything, but some of my stuff just has sentimental value to me.

I can understand what you are saying to a certain extent, unfortunately they are not responding to my ticket...2 weeks and running now and i have not heard from the so called Senior GM this was escalated too. Maybe they are just that overwhelmed with this sort of stuff but really the forums are here for us to talk about it. Sorry for others that have had to endure this as well. It sucks but it seems to be a lot of older players...hoping for resolution for all of us!
well my two clan members who have been hacked are going on 3 weeks with Ncsoft out right ignoring them.
They ask for an update every few ncsoft does not even respond, they call on the phone phone support says wait for the ticket to be responded to.
This is horrible support even for a free game.
Just think if you were still paying 15 bucks a month! I am also on 3 weeks and i sent them an email because i couldnt find my info for the support site, so i sent it outside of the parameters to which they sent an email right back stated to put my response in the proper area so they could tend to my problem, i completed it like they asked and have not heard anything back! LOL...Horrible!

Real 100% hacking means someone hacks NCsoft and steals their password file and reverse engineers it slowly, but will eventually get them all. This has happened already, I believe, back in 06 or 05 when everyone had to change their password.
I hope this isn't the case, cause I really hate the whole resetting thing. Im pretty sure I've lost some security questions for 1 or 2 of my accounts.

There might actually be a security leak with NCsoft, I have never been hacked before but my brother has on 'GuildWars', another game published by NCsoft. One day I decided to log into my GuildWars account after having not played on it for years and found that my brother who also quit years ago was playing... I even happened to find him in a town, he became one of those money farmbots... his entire account got stripped and his character got transformed into a money farmer. NCsoft did help us though, we recovered his account within 3 days.
My brother uses impossible passwords to guess, BUT.. he did use the same password on guildwarsguru forums, be careful with non official lineage2 forums.. this is just my guess of what might be going on with some people.

Why are you such an angry noob and why do you speak in absolutes? You're telling me that in the history of online gaming no one has ever been hacked? If so, you're either full of **** or dumb as a box of rocks. All you little cry bots jump on people and claim that they must have used a bot program or gotten a trojan, etc. That might be the case most of the time, but it's also likely that some people have actually had their accounts compromised through no fault of their own. It's not as if the servers have never been compromised before, nor has NCSoft been able to prevent other serious exploits like dupes, injections, and dwarfs that could shoot fireballs out of their ***.
PS- I've been around here long enough to have noticed that this issue comes in waves and so I'm open to the notion that it's sometimes more than just irresponsibility on the part of individual players.

Well like I said, me nor my brother touched our guildwars account for years but still he got hacked, the only possibility for us were the guildwarsguru forums, not sure if Lineage has a similar forum?
We never touched a third party program, kinda ignorant to say that. He got his account compromised within 3 days which pretty much means he was on the right, thank you.
I'm about 99% sure that most people that end up getting hacked use the same login and password on forums, so my message is.. use different passwords everywhere, it is not your fault for being hacked but forums are the big security leak imo.

Sold to the highest bidding selling company and in turn is sold back to people with the real currency. On the other hand companies don't like dirty money from hacked accounts because its a pain in the *** when the account is retrieved and NC goes looking for the money. Companies have a very hard time telling whether currency is clean or dirty.

Happy though that NC decided to go F2P because this is the only way you can really stamp out this activity. No, actually, you don't. I don't think you realize just how much adena sellers vary.
Your assumption seems to be that anyone who is trying to ****/crack/whatever accounts, is someone always looking to exploit your CC info or something incredibly nefarious like that. Yeah, no. A lot of the times it's just some suburban white kid trying to get more items, or a few hundred bucks irl, it isn't always some super pro hacker that literally destroys your life, in fact it almost never is.
From what I've seen all these recent thefts have been done mostly by a character called "Aionling", all he did was go onto your account, take your money/most of your valuables(in a lot of cases, for some reason, not all your items)and send them to himself. Even if he *wanted* your CC info, he's not going to get it off the site, every mmo since forever has had CC encryption so that you can't get the full number, sure you can buy 1000000 NCoin, but that's the risk you run when having a CC on file.
Worried? Use a gift card. You lose a few bucks but it helps deal with the paranoia that someone might find your info and buy NCSoft with your CC.
PS One more thing dawg, it's a hell of a lot easier to log in to accounts you have the passes for instead of cracking a site's financial DB, lmao. Remember how I brought up the jacker of loots didn't take *everything* off *every* account? That tells you a lot if you know anything about being cleaned, it wasn't a lot of people, it was a few people with a list of old PWs that waited for a prime time to hit.
Chinese gold farmers completely liquidate accounts and usually bot them, people with grudges will delete everything and try to get you banned, and people looking to make as much ~adenaz~ as possible will log onto accounts, take whatever they can, and jump off. Some of the people that lost items were actually logged in to the game when they were DC'd and cleaned, that tells you "Aionling" was in a bit of a rush, and not organized enough to even log a character in to check if whoever he wants to clean, is online or not.

Your assumption seems to be that anyone who is trying to ****/crack/whatever accounts, is someone always looking to exploit your CC info or something incredibly nefarious like that. Yeah, no. A lot of the times it's just some suburban white kid trying to get more items, or a few hundred bucks irl, it isn't always some super pro hacker that literally destroys your life, in fact it almost never is.
From what I've seen all these recent thefts have been done mostly by a character called "Aionling", all he did was go onto your account, take your money/most of your valuables(in a lot of cases, for some reason, not all your items)and send them to himself. Even if he *wanted* your CC info, he's not going to get it off the site, every mmo since forever has had CC encryption so that you can't get the full number, sure you can buy 1000000 NCoin, but that's the risk you run when having a CC on file.
Worried? Use a gift card. You lose a few bucks but it helps deal with the paranoia that someone might find your info and buy NCSoft with your CC.
PS One more thing dawg, it's a hell of a lot easier to log in to accounts you have the passes for instead of cracking a site's financial DB, lmao. Remember how I brought up the jacker of loots didn't take *everything* off *every* account? That tells you a lot if you know anything about being cleaned, it wasn't a lot of people, it was a few people with a list of old PWs that waited for a prime time to hit.
Chinese gold farmers completely liquidate accounts and usually bot them, people with grudges will delete everything and try to get you banned, and people looking to make as much ~adenaz~ as possible will log onto accounts, take whatever they can, and jump off. Some of the people that lost items were actually logged in to the game when they were DC'd and cleaned, that tells you "Aionling" was in a bit of a rush, and not organized enough to even log a character in to check if whoever he wants to clean, is online or not.

Do you even get what point im trying to make? I've been saying that there hasn't been actual hacking going on, most probably it's the player's fault for getting his account compromised (keylogged, same passwords, account sharing). Because I highly doubt a suburban "white" (i dont know what race has to do with this) managed to actually get the passwords by hacking NCSOFT, rather than keylogging unsuspecting noobs or stealing passwords from some fansite/forum.

You're missing the point. Steal enough CCs and you're guaranteed a law enforcement investigation, steal accounts and adena and you'll never have to worry and the CC info is harder to get to.
They have had breaches before and there is no reason to totally exclude the possibility again, but ppl like you insist on speaking in absolutes. It is more likely to be something else, like the trojans that infect you through flash player ads (as has happened before to L2 players), but at the end of the day you can't be certain.
I dunno, noscript is not a pain at all, you have to hand enable everything required to make certain sites function properly that you visit all the time. Once set up no script is for the most part invisible until you actually visit a dubious site. Where it saves you.

Think for more than two seconds, and try to accept that things like this occur, i.e., things happen even though you don't believe that they do! Hacking happens, and it is certainly happening more often than it used to. This being said, I do not want to make a sweeping statement and claim that everyone who has been hacked is careless, because it would be the case that some people do not share their information, buy Adena online, or visit certain devious third-party sites -- and still get hacked --. So, while some people can be held responsible in some way to their being hacked, it is simply implausible that everyone is somehow responsible in this way for their account being hacked. The internet is full of holes (excuse my lack of knowledge and terminology here), and others who know how to exploit these holes take advantage of weak computer systems and gain access to people's personal information.

The posts don't cover the number of people who've actually had their accounts cleaned out. In a sense it is a breach of security..account security. Some people aren't even making new threads,they are contributing to the thread they also have been cleaned out. This thread is not pointless it's to bring attention to a serious issue that NC can't seem to resolve.

We were only able to retrive a few items, everything else has already changed hands many times. After we check our files to see what you had we will replace some items with common gear. They had details on the hacker but only told me it was a Chinese IP.

I can only make a conclusion that officials from NC(fail)soft are trying to fix the security issues with forum and websites, but those attempts are rather childish. Here are the facts:

Actually it's not the player's fault if they haven't done anything to get their accounts stolen. And you don't know what NC has going with their website nor does anyone know how exactly they got cleaned out when they have not cheated in any way or shared info.
NC is the only ones who can rectify the account breach. The player isn't capable of it nor responsible. The only way they can try to regain what was on the account is to send a ticket to support. And further more your account is NOT your property whatsoever,it is owned by NCsoft. The only thing you have claim to is the work you put into the account.
Some people will get items back and it might only be in the form of temporary gear packs unfortunately. I haven't had my accounts stripped yet,but every morning I log on holding my breath. I change my passwords,watch who I interact with in game,don't share info, don't visit sites and so on. I use official forums or clan forums. If it happened to me I may start over,I have a good clan to back me up so I'd have to think about it if it happened.

They could have picked a key logger up for any web site they have visited. The key logger doesnt have to be one that targets Lineage but could be one that is trying to steal any username/password it can get hold of. The people who steal the password probably just sell them on to adena sites who do the actual in game stealing.

You have my sympothy as I like you got stripped of everything I played for. Almost eight years of play and now all I got is a 89/80/80/80 toon with nada. Its been almost a full week and so far my ticket has yet to be qued. Which I can only assume means they haven't even looked at it yet. I was wondering how long did you have to wait for your info?

Wow. that is utterly and complete BS. So basically atm I should be hoping for appoximately 100 R crystals in compensation for the over 7.5B in adena,gear,epics etc. I lost. Where as before f2p stripped accounts would get almost everything back? Sounds fair.

I believe that their ******* policy of giving hacked players common items started before GoD, sometime during the Freya update.
It's like they don't even play their own game enough to realize that common items are no replacement for the items lost in the ****, especially boss jewels. :sarcasm:

Manor system that has repeatedly been remade in ways that promote 3rd party program use.
PvP cheating that has been a problem for years and going by NCSoft's history of "enforcement," will likely continue to be a problem for many more years.
Game design/enforcement policies that almost encourages the use of 3rd party programs.

farmers? That's not a illegal game play. You can repeatedly farm quest items for its rewards in an area if you want,what is wrong is that bots abuse this feature. There's a quest you can get at 82 in oren to obtain items like EAS and fire crystals and you have no limit to the number of quest items you can earn or how long you want to continue the quest. I think there should be a 24 hour reset timer on it or something of the nature.
Common items don't go past A grade so those don't replace gear or boss jewels..not by a long shot. you can't augment,enchant or anything with them. So I don't understand why you think they do.
I had 2 clannies in the last 2 days hacked. Also ally had has several their friends hacked.
I remember when I was hacked last year the gm's state there is a direct correlation to the adena spammers in town and a rise in hackings.
I can only figure that demand for adena is so high they cannot meet the supply by their usual means so the move to hacking.
Since Korea/China/Russia IP ban us from using their servers cant we do the same to them? I was hacked by a Russian IP obviously they are not playing on our servers, and since they have their own shouldn't they be blocked from logging on ours?
Also I think its time for us to revisit the security features again since they have learned to bypass them again.

I think by common S gear they mean bound or standard or a gear package with a 90 day timer. Common S grade doesn't drop in game,never has. It goes to A grade and that is it. Common S could also be referred to the giran lux shop items too. There is no such items as common S and up especially boss jewels. If the GM creates these items I guess we'd need to see it in a screenshot. They won't be sellable anyways.

Its been almost a full week and so far my ticket has yet to be qued. Which I can only assume means they haven't even looked at it yet. I was wondering how long did you have to wait for your info?
It took a week for them to tell me I was hacked and 1 or 2 weeks to get some stuff back. Then I shut the account down and told them it was because of the lack of support.
First of all, the quote was presumably from the support e-mail that the poster had gotten, signaled by his use of "In NCSoft's own word." The quote goes on to say "After we check our files to see what you had we will replace some items with common gear."
Second, it doesn't matter. What matters is that NCSoft sees it fit to replace hacked gear with gear of substantially-lower value even in cases where the gear was taken as a result of hacking.

However, that doesn't stop them from replacing your boss jewels and S-grade gear with A-grade common items, which is what they do (again, for characters with R-grade mastery, they may be giving R-grade bound items instead).

Well the items weren't able to be recovered they still should have been able to see in the log what you owned. That's really a load of garbage since they can make any item they want with any enchant,augment and element and stick it in your inventory. I know you can do this because I did it as a GM on a private server,they are liars.
Checked back on my account today, haven't played for about a month.
I first noticed I was naked and went "omg hacked!" and then I was like "oh ya, my A grade stuff probably expired"
Then I checked my adena and noticed I really was hacked.
Of course, all my equipment would have been gone anyway, so I probably wasn't coming back anyway.
Checked my mail and noticed my adena was sent out but could be canceled, so I got my money back!
So I guess I'll just use the 30 day gear being gone as an excuse not to play...
edit: No I wasn't botting, account sharing, real money buying, or anything stupid. I've been playing MMOs since forever and have never had a problem aside from this.
They can produce any item at any level with anything on it. It is a database system that they wrote the code for! Wow, talk about just canned responses they probably have it so u can just drop a certain item in a person's specific account and have a few people assigned to this.
It's not that they can't poduce the item because they dont have the resources, it's because they'll be only doing what is good for the server and it's stability. So, if that includes not filling the server with MORE items, then they'd protect it from that. Yes, i'd agree, the server needs a bit of a rollback though.
People put their usernames and passwords into other sites.
People use the same username and password on everything.
People download "cheat" programs that are fake and end up getting keylogged.

I never shared my info nor visited any other L2 related sites besides the official site. I run FireFox with noScript and a computer scan turned up nothing as usual. I can't even submit a ticket in-game. This is the first time I've had my account compromised in any game. If I don't get my stuff back I'm most likely done with this game for good, it's a shame after I spent money on the hardcore adventurer pack and some XP runes.

WHOA! How in the world did your ticket get bumped to a senior GM when I got stipped 9 days ago and just get generic responses via twitter/e-mail? Is there a more direct method here? If a husband and wife who share a computer don't both get hacked then its a security issue with your PATH TO AWAKENING WEBSITE.
I said before its an unsecure site that allows direct access to your ingame account, it does not take a computer genius to **** an unsecure site.
I advise anyone who cares about there gear to stay away from the PATH to AWAKENING Website till Ncsoft can tell us how all these people keep getting their accounts stripped without no viruses or illegal activity.

I'm glad I've stayed clear of the path to awakening site. I did use it once,but I've change passwords already on the acct before this all started. That proves it's the awakening site. That was why so many new accounts have been stripped clean,and any old players looking to get a cert to use to collect items get nailed too. NC should shut that stupid site down until they fix it

create a dummy account to store everything on so when you go to claim path to awakening stuff you at least can have time to change the password again. just strip the whole account and move everything off it until you're finished claiming stuff. That's the best I can suggest.

You wont need to provide the CD key,they've asked me for that before and I didn't provide it because I didn't have it. I have one original box from my first account. The other two I don't. I just gave them the most info I had and that was enough. That's why you don't provide open info on facebook. All they need is an email to search you,they can get your name,location,possibly a phone number and don't expose your friend list because if you have family with public profiles they can relate it and pull out information to gain access. Don't even show your birthday either that's useable info.

I created a new l2 account and what I find strange is that your login ID's are the same for game and NCsoft account and I dug around to see if I could change one and you can't. You can only have 2 separate passwords it seems. It's automatically done this way. I didn't see an option when you signed up to fill them in separate. That right there is a big problem in itself.

As a recovered person from a hacking I knew HGM's have the power to restore all items on your account fully except stackable items (even restore enchants and augments exactly they were).
Anyone who comes from a Private Server knows all the information is saved and you roll back the trades and ban anyone who bought stolen gear, you done it in the past,

Given the items could most likely be tracked, but once they pass / sell to more than the initial person it was moved to -- comes the question of legitimacy, was that item given or sold by legitimate means?
It causes even more headaches as more people are introduced to the problem. Leaving it effecting just 1 person, rather than multiple, contains the issue.
Once this starts happening if you take the alternate route, and people realize it, what's going to happen is people will abuse the system. They will make up fake accounts to act like they're stealing items, sell / trade / drop them from chaotic death 'em to a friendly. When people start doing this in mass, it floods the market with all these FREE duped items basically. This either crashes the market, or inflates it so much to a point where everyone has to do this to acquire items or buy adena. This is exactly why we saw such large prices on items in the past, given people who buy / farm adena flood the market with a disrupted trend. Looking at prices just from adena farmers, can you imagine what things will be like with duped items?
Not to mention I don't really want to see thousands of people with AQ / boss jewels on at any time.

As I stated before my account was stripped. 2.5 Billion adena/+4446 Vorpal/+5 cutter focus 300Dark/Zaken/AQ/Frint/Bauim/Anthy/+3 V.Stormer Haste 250wind/+4 Bound Twilight Boot and gaunlet/94 Superior Masteries/34 Superior Codex/30-40 crystals/30-40 stones/10+ EWR/20+EAR/Dark Crystal set/Drac set/Botm w/Btb/all mats, lifestones, soulshots etc. etc. etc everything I played for is Gone. 8+ Billion?
The end result of my support ticket after 11 days of back and forth e-mail and twitter was/is: <Drum roll> 40 Diplomas, sorry you got hacked and a have a nice day.

Your right, it would be an aweful tragedy to see the delicate market balance get messed up by restoring my toon. Let's just keep those bots and adena farmers/sellers happy. After all they sure do make the game what it is today.

The one farmer doing it was logged at the weapon shop in TI selling everything he got from mail from the hacked accounts. So added these items back to the server does nothing, hackers realize they don't have the time to sell the gear now so they just shop everything... EVERYTHING.
None of these boss jewels are hitting the market they are being destroyed. Zaken earrings being destroyed like this is driving their price back up to being one of the more expensive jewels since it don't drop no more.

Stuff can't flood the market if it's deemed not tradeable,but at least it's what the player originally had with enchants and augments. I think they can do better just choose to be lazy and not care. This game will be destroyed faster than I ever imagined.

I agree with this statement... I posted in the other thread as well... so I won't repeat what I said there. The people that keep spouting off all this crap about people not really getting hacked and its their fault and we went to the wrong website or something are full of it. The only website I regret going to is NCSoft's Path to Awakening site... I really believe they have a vulnerability there.

Where did you get this policy from? When I got hacked years ago in c2 or c3 (had just completed my tallum set) and found myself totally naked outside aden, my petitions after being escalated and escalated for days always got back the same replies : "we can't do anything, please contact your local authorities for them to investigate". It was my clannies and friends that gave me some mismatched pieces of armor and a weapon to get me back up on my feet not ncsoft or this invisible policy of restoration.
I also know that when another friend got hacked and her drac bow stolen she got three different replies from 3 GMs : that the logs showed she had traded it one month before she had crafted it AND dropped it on the ground AND she never had a drac bow. Wonderful logs they keep lol
I do not believe these are real hacks as if that were the case then the L2 master account site is being attacked and compromised. These people that cry about being hacked have either shared accounts, visited questionable L2 related websites. used illegal third party software, bought Adena from websites and have had there info stolen by doing so.

Mmm. Don't mean to be rude, regardless of it being a theory or not I would think it would be fair to say it's a logical one considering it's an issue in a large number of games. But hey, if you feel it's 'completely wrong', which I'll note is pretty ignorant to say, mind you, as you could have just said you disagreed given your rebuttal isn't exactly 'fact' either. Anyway, if you feel it's completely wrong, you're entitled to your opinions and bias.

I am not familiar with what criteria those decisions are made from, but it is confidential to players for the same reason explained above: every case is different.

I suppose it is. It's not really your area either. Probably depends on which GM deals with it. I've had alright experiences with the GM's. The customer service phone service wasn't bad either.
I was in various clans during past seven years. And experiences my clannies had were:
LAN party/shared account/internet cafe - you most likely not gonna get anything, or even ban for all parties involved.
We had some people getting all their items back, that's including epics etc.
One guy got all his stuff back twice in span of three months.
I'd imagine only 10% of all the reported hacks are actual hacks. As for the rest 90%, 70% of them people are up to no good :D All that makes it difficult for actual 10% who really getting screwed.

OMG people get hacked. What can i do to increase security? Will a daily passwordchange help? Or how else can I protect my account? I dont use 3rd party programs or give away my passwords. What to do? Profis **** our accounts to make money?
People usually use very weak and very common passwords. Hackers don't even need to put much of the effort to get em hacked. You can easily download 10 000 most common password list out of the google!.
For my gaming accounts I use long 14-18 symbol passwords with completely random words and numbers that only has meaning to me. Never been hacked in my 7 years of gaming experience and I've been playing A LOT.
WoW, L2, AION, WAR, LOTR, Conan and many other games.
Status u been here for 4 + years and do not realize u can't use symbols in L2 passwords yet?
I use mixed case and numbers which honestly is enough. If you use completly random passwords then you will have write them down containing another security flaw.

Took a GM 45 minutes till he locked out my accounts, Hacker got caught with his hand in the cookie jar so to say, couldn't clean out my accounts totally and some of the adena for things he sold was still on the transfer toon that got locked too.
I suggested this when I got hacked because many people are getting hacked while they are in game and get the another user has logged into your account. How about putting in place an emergency lockdown button on the plaync site. That automatically kicks all your accounts and locks them out till you can work with support to reactivate them.
This would not stop all hackings etc but it would stop the ones when the person is online when its happening.
Since now you cannot petition in game, and if you send a support ticket in might be 2 - 3 days before you get a response, there needs to be a "panic" button so to say.
I noticed that the Path to Awakening page finally redirects to a secure page when you login, that wasn't the case just a few days ago, like some said that page could have been a vector of attack, good to see that has been fixed

my psws are never registered on my computer, i live alone so noone has access to my computer and i never go in cybercafe

NC soft's management of this situation has cost chronos some fine players, one of which we loss tonight due to the fact that all he got in return for his 8bill worth of stuff was a basic Bound armor set..... which is a slap and a spit in the face to a player as long time devoted as he...
so if my account ever becomes compromised i doubt ill even bother trying to resolve anything with the staff on ncsoft as it has become apparent how things will be handled.

2/ first thing you do, is not to change the pass of an empty account but to change the pass of more important accounts

NCsoft is not able to protect the server from scammer/hacker/spammer. The last days has been an evidence of it and Ncsoft had to cancel an event. Last days have been the proof that Ncsoft had to manage WITH hacker, else hackers would be able to block the servers which would be the end of Ncsoft.

i would actually suggest to NC to have the same thing as private servers have the IP block function for accounts in account management
You know, that's not a terrible idea - to only have confirmed IP addresses allowed access. Mind you it may be annoying to update every few days for those with dynamic IP addresses, or every connect for those with Dial-Up -- but it's a start. But it's not entirely idiotic, despite how messy IP-based security is, given many bank sites use this.
An alternative is to have a function to create an encrypted file/cookie created from account management on request, the file is sent to your linked e-mail address (Forcing them to crack two things, not just one), you move it to your L2 folder (or it installs there, whichever) and if the game doesn't detect the correct encrypted file on log-in, you can't log-in to the registered account.
It's an idea at least.

this would depend on a private server about dynamic IPs some offer 3 other offer up to 10 IP slots to set for login accounts, you also have a record list of IPs that were used by login into accounts
I do not believe these are real hacks as if that were the case then the L2 master account site is being attacked and compromised. These people that cry about being hacked have either shared accounts, visited questionable L2 related websites. used illegal third party software, bought Adena from websites and have had there info stolen by doing so.

I didn't do any of those things and an account I had since beta with no issues at all just randomly gets hacked (cracked whatever you want to call it) after free to play ...and the only account I have that got compromised was one I used the path to awakening on.
Also, when you have this many people getting compromised at the exact same time frame... this is not user neglegence from ALL these people. This isn't one or two people complaining...

no, i had on my account the necklace of frintezza of a friend of mine, the epic jewels also disappeared with the hacker. My clan mates already helped me when i started on the server, lending or giving mats. Everything has been deleted. My work, and the work of the clan mate. I won't ask their help again nor take any risk to be scammed again and loose their items. I won't farm naked with my fit. And my clan mates need adena to gear themselves not to help me again.
Gç back to farm and farm again if you want, farm adena !! The hackers will be happy.
Check the spams of RMT/hacker, you should wonder why the prices have so many decreased. Because they even don't bot or farm, the **** the account of legit player.
and the joke of it is this. ncsoft will not return to you your gear. you get bound garbage. no adena return. bellepeche lost a frint and top fenier gear and nothing. this marks the end of our allys time on retail. we were treated better on private.

I am not even bothering to ask NC for my stuff back because after 10 years I'm just kinda done... but I don't want people sitting here saying "oh its your fault" or people did something stupid... this many people getting compromised in this short time frame does not logically suggest that every single person is a victim of their own demise. I really believe NC has a vulnerability in their "new" path to awakening site. Course it could be something else, but I know I was not hacked because of something I did or didn't do.
Well I never bought anything or did anything neglegent to the game. I always like grinding. I logged out about 1am last night -5 gmt with a full inventory logged into it today about 11am -5gmt and found my inventory cleared. Don't know if it's a bug or what, but kinda odd. Don't really care I have already gained more money than I had off auctions cause if I was hacked they forgot to check that so screw them, changed my pass and moved on!! Just wish they would do something about this soulshot lag that's happening, it's really annoying to see it not fixed after 3 days! When I ran my private server I had it fixed in a hour... shut the servers down, fix the problem so we can stop complaining about this!
If the NCsoft IP ban the hackers they will just simple restart their rooters/modems and give them new IP and though that so many people around you got hacked and etc is a bit suspicious too Because if give away part of ur accounts info u will get hacked sooner or later by a good and fast hacker.

Lol that's hilarious, and now they want to change Chronos to EU timezone. Regardless of whether or not I get my items back I think it's time to hang up my feathered hat(that was stolen by some chinamen) and walk away. It was fun while it lasted and I will cherish the memories of open beta and the early glory days of L2. But sadly this game has been going down hill quickly and just recently fell into the bowels of hell. For those of you veterans who still have your gear enjoy the game while you can because I'm sure there are many more poor choices to be made by NCWest to come. My husband did a kind of "test" for this. I dunno if we are on to anything but it is very suspicious.
He had just created a brand new NC account... started leveling an orc and all was well.... as soon as he went to the path of awakening site to get his level 20 stuff, the very next day he was stripped. He has another account with his high level toon and nothing has happened to that account.
I know not EVERYONE is being hacked but I find this stuff highly suspect. I suggest if you go to the path of awakening site to change your password immediately afterward... at least that's what I'm gonna do.

Their GM system is obviously outsourced to some random IT company in India and there's a few employees that just reply with canned replies. Sometimes for all the sense they make they might consider having trained monkeys hit the keyboard for them.

If this would be company's fault than you would be seeing thousands crying about hacking. Current player base I'd estimate between 60-80 thousand players based on online statistics and yet it's relatively few that actually complains. This should be enough evidence to support that it's VERY unlikely that their website is unsecured and that it's much more likely that end user is at fault by either sharing accounts, getting viruses, using powerleving services etc.
Also it's naive to think that people who come to post to official forums will admit their mistake because than chances of actually getting an items or even positive reply are astronomically low. Imagine a post like this: ''Hey I know I should have not shared accounts but I did and now my all items are gone could you please help me?" or ''I used a powerleveling service and now all my items and adena been taken away please do something about this..'' or ''I use same ID and password everywhere and it's the first time I got hacked this can't be happening'' What would you reply to those? It's pretty obvious most people will not admit of being stupid as I said it's naive to think they would.
Status, it is also naive to think that everyone posting is a liar just trying to whine or hoping for some false sense of positive. I'm sure there are also lots of things happening to people who are not posting on the forums. It is not that unlikely that this would happen to their websites as it has happened to them before. Once in lineage many years ago and it forced every single person to go through a security hell to verify their accounts and change all their passwords... the second time was in Aion.
It very well is likely that a site can be hacked or a database compromised. To say it isn't likely at all is naive... you don't know what is happening. I don't know either but it is very suspicious. I really have no idea what's going on... but as I've said many times... at least in my case ... having an account for nearly 10 years with no problems whatsoever and then suddenly after visiting this site and putting my game password in it I get hacked after 10 years?
I really don't care if you don't believe me or think I'm lying and covering up the fact that I have done something I shouldn't have or did something stupid on my computer... I know I didn't... and I don't need you to believe it. I just want NC to actually look into it and VALIDATE that there isn't something wrong with their systems. If they come back and say no, then they are either lying or this was just a random coincidence that lots of people are getting hacked at the exact same times...

We have lots of PCs and laptops in our house... I use my personal PC solely and he uses his solely. We each also have laptops. And inversely, I do not log into my accounts on his computer nor do I use his on mine.
He did the test on his laptop and uses his main account on his regular pc. It could of course be a coincidence but the whole thing is just really wierd... I also have other accounts that I've no problems with. I never went to the path to awakening sites on those accounts and they were not compromised... I have logged in to my other accounts and used them on this computer...

do a full update on PCs and on anti virus and other programs you guys might use for blocking and then do a full scan on those PCs you guys play and tell us if you find anything.
im asking this cuz if we want to pin this on path to awakening fault then lets exclude 1st all other possibilities like having keylogger on PC etc etc
