Love for Prophets!

General Discussion Started Last reply 34 posts
Hello fellow players, I will speak from my own experience which is sadly not that much (yet), I have started playing Lineage 2 about 9 days ago but enough about this.

I have a level 61 Prophet and a level 76 Bladedancer, the reason I had to leave my Prophet behind is... nobody wants to mentor a Prophet and leveling minus the 200% xp bonus is very demotivating, especially when you are a Prophet because you already are slower than most classes.

Either way, the time I've spent on my Prophet was amazing and I don't see why people would not love having a Prophet, I will try to bend every CON into a positive thing, first of all.

Prophets are single target buffers!!!
- Very true but Prophet's buffs last for 20 minutes and because you are a single target buffer you can give people specific buffs they need, with a bladedancer or swordsinger you are not able to maintain 5 rythms/dances, you almost have to choose between melee or magic.

Prophets are lazy people that stand there and leech exp!!
- These are people that do not know how to play a prophet, I know you do not have dual mastery but Prophets still help a lot when they can and you will recover mp hitting mobs with a dualsword, it's a passive skill of yours..

Prophets level slow as hell, why would we want to mentor them?
- Prophets level as fast as any other class if they would get more love, prophets can assist in buffing, dealing damage AND healing when needed (but not recommended, your healing skills cost a lot)

Other reasons to love Prophets.. the game is filled with orcs, kamaels, light and dark elfs, you will be unique as a Prophet, hierophant or hopefully in the future, Iss enchanter.. because I really want to reach that with my Prophet but because of the hate/dislike around the class, I have to make myself an own mentor to be able to get there...

Another reason is that every buff has a different animation, where the party 'buffers' or dancers/singers however you like to call them all have the same animation

Just some random ranting since it's maintenance and I'm bored. :P
Feel free to add your opinions to this topic hehe.
*thumbs up to thread*

Also, don't forget that Prophets can rez with skill instead of scrolls like the other buffers and have elemental resistances :D

Uh?

Anyways, from what I understand you're from one of the older servers where you can get mentor more or less easily. Then you should see that most of your buffs are included in mentor buffs, your damage is rather insignificant and so on.

On the top of that, are you telling that you're gonna make an Iss Enchanter of your dancer and then mentor it to make an Iss Enchanter of your Prophet?
Such an awesome idea.

PS.: Nobody really cares how the buffs look like once you've seen them 2-3 times. On the top of that your buffs will look the same once you're awakened.

Very true, almost forgot about that :D
Prophets can also teleport rather than having to buy scrolls for that too.. and the teleport is pretty much instant <3

Nope, I'm completely new to Lineage 2.

I didn't really think about the mentor buffs, you are right on that part, a lot of buffs are covered, though, still not a reason to hate on the Prophet class, they are still very usefull when played correctly, who wouldn't love wind walk for example?

Btw, I didn't say I would turn my bladedancer into an iss enchanter, I said I would make her a mentor for my other characters, including my prophet. ;p

You really are not able to maintain 5 ryhtms when you have to recast them every 2 minutes, the most I can maintain without running dry on mp is 3 at all times, 5 will eventually empty your MP as it is 300+mp every 2 minutes :/
Oh i see the truth now..gonna reroll to prophet after maintainance.
Uh?
Without Inner Rhythm and similar MP consumption reduction skills a BD/SWS can't maintain a full list of dances/songs for mixed parties without needing a recharger afterwards.
I'm phoenix knight lv73, with a very good mentor, who teached me a lot of stuffs, and is nice with me. I actually planed to do the same with my furure mentees. As long as they are motivated, I'd take anyone, regardless of his class, and i'm not the only one in this case.

Well, there's Clarity, recharges and the fact you'll rarely make mixed parties (or any big parties in fact until 3rd class, unless you're doing Kama, where I could keep up 4-5 songs on my low level singer while tanking, because Kamas don't take long at all).

But other than that, it's very likely your healer in party will be EE (considering that most of them are EE or nowadays, but even Cardinals might take Clarity), or just mentor buffs, which should decrease mana consumption as well, if I remember right.

I'm a Shillien Elder, one of my best friends plays as a Sword Muse, we always make party when we're logged in. I still don't have Clarity (that's one of the MP reduction skills I was talking about :P). And sometimes, while hunting, I need to give recharges to said SWM.

Back to the main point of this thread...
@OP, have you read Destructor's thread about Prophets? It's a well-written wall-of-text talking about the good points of Prophets and Hierophants (oh yeah, I forgot they learn Counter Critical at 83). Sadly, the way Prophets are seen in the Western community won't change much. The individuals playing and loving Prophets are fated to be a minority.
I actually go out of my way to include prophets in my parties. I do this simply because they get so much hate these days. I also remember the glory days when PPs used to sell their buffs for adena in chat..
Either way, getting to 86 is an archievement and you will be a pretty human Iss Enchanter, which I'm pretty sure.. there are not many of them. :D

It's just a bit of a struggle to get there without a mentor, but I suppose getting a mentor is always a struggle... the demand is so big, I see a lot of people sell their mentee spots, I got VERY lucky with my mentor (but he refused to mentor my Prophet though >_<, which I do understand... I'm pretty new to the game and he probably did not expect me to level up quickly, I managed to level my Bladedancer from 1 to 76 in like 5 days though ;p so I'm fairly sure with my Prophet, I would have atleast been like 80 by now if I did not go with a bladedancer)

Hehe, after some more thinking about this... I actually don't mind that people do not play Prophets, it is a way to be unique, another positive thing of being a prophet!
This thread literally made me facepalm, and that's something I don't do often.

Comparing a prophet to a bladedancer would be like comparing a healer to a tyrant. They have nothing in common.

Prophet is a basic buffer, his competitors are dominators (which are slightly better), and warcryer (which are infinitely better). Both dominators and warcryers get soul cry and infinite mana while they melee, leaving the prophet with less good buffs, less damage, less heals, with the only significant advantage of a 20% rez which surely as a prophet might come in handy because you can't keep anyone alive (no VR, and no heals past lv 40).

Bladedancers, on the other hand, get dances which stack over regular (and mentor) buffs. Every party will want a bladedancer, just as every party will want a warcryer.

While you're soloing 10k exp mobs with your prophet, your bd will be gaining 400k+ exp per mob in giant's cave.

Prophets had their place - in prelude all the way to C5, but when they gave warcryers VR + zerk + might 4 and all other useful buffs (except empower, which prophets also don't have), they made prophets 100% obsolete.

Not to mention that prophets need like 2 minutes to buff a 7-person party, whereas the warcryer needs 10 secs.

Don't get me wrong, I have a 79 hierophant and I'm sad to see how useless it is, but I made my peace with it and got my dominator to 85 instead, having an Iss with clan buffs + clan invincible can be a fun alt to play.
Don't give up on your Prophet! Once you become an Iss Enchanter it will feel like a real accomplishment, and it'll all have been worth it!
Don't listen to all those naysayers, they're the kind of people who want an instant-win-button on their keyboard if they could get one anyway, bloody spoiled brats!

To those who don't want a Prophet as a Mentee because they level slower..... LOL at them, they maybe level slower compared to the other classes but as a Mentor you could see that as an advantage too, because you'd have the Exp bonus longer with one, afterall when a Mentee graduates you have 5 days of not getting another Mentee. So getting at least one Mentee that levels slower would seem like the wiser choice to me, of course the greedy ones are less about the exp and all about the mentee coins however...

Make friends who will duo/trio with you, a small group is easy enough to keep buffed and healed up as a Prophet, most Warcryers will solo now with their infinite drains anyway.

If you solo use heavy armor for survival, if you party or use the root + bow fighting style (remember to shoot a rooted mob in the back for higher damage, accuracy and critchance, because mystic classes get a penalty when using a bow) use a robe for more mp and better mp regeneration.

I also recommend using a great wolf if you're a melee prophet, give it your buffs and even with the cheapest great wolf weapon it'll be a very good DD for you, just make sure it doesn't tank to much because its attack is awesome but its defense is horrible. Once you're a Hierophant and learn Block Shield it'll be easier to hold aggro because Block Shields seems to cause a nice amount of threat as well.
The great wolf will also be of great use to your Prophet once you can Exp/Drophunt/Daily quest in Silent Valley (Dryad Root + Great Wolf combo, and you could help a little bit with a Bow).

Btw, where'd you get the idea that Prophet heals cost alot of mp, they're Cleric level learned heals, ever since GoD when I was still a Prophet/Hierophant the mp recovery from mana steal and the occasional mp herb would always make me unable to run out of mp even if I used my heals, and there were enough moments of me spamming Battle Heals lol.

Hehe sorry to have made you facepalm but the comparison probably came because I possess both a prophet and bladedancer and they are the only classess I have played so far since I did state that I am new at the game, that was kind of an ignorant post of yours. :D

On the other parts you're probably right since you're obviously more experienced with this game than I am.

I'm not giving up on my prophet, she will be 86 at one point, first I have to get my bladedancer there. ;p (spectral dancer actually >_>)

Which server are you playing on?
Both dominators and warcryers get soul cry and infinite mana while they melee

Quick question, I have a 58 Warcrier and would love to know how I would gain mp from meleeing?
Is it some skill I have missed? I am pretty sure they didn't get mp back when I used to play. Right now I just use him as a buffer for my main sitting in some corner.

Turn the soulcry toggle on, every hit you do when you have it on will recover 10% of your damage as mp I believe
Well, they regen mana while drains as well, so why bother to go melee?

well that certainly is a nice addition. maybe I can go solo with him now then.
Just should not have gotten that staff :/

I also see light armor now does 90% faster cast rate, does this mean it's useful to use something else than just robe armors?
My prophet is 78 now and things are starting to get very interesting.

Prophet has the advantage over pvp for your team over the over-populated WC.

Only class to have Block Shield and Block Wind Walk, Mystic Immunity is hot, can buff mental shield and the only buffer to decrease P def of enemies through normal attacks.

If you want a party made so fricking easy get a WC but if you want protection get a Prophet.

Arguement is pointless after 85+ (however PP keeps Block shield/WW, mystic immunity and penetrating attack)...oh and get a wolf, 2 levels until Fenrir for me and wolf is BEASTLY with POF :D

Like Monitor said, you having a staff is actually good now. Steal Essence the HP drain skill you have will also recover mp thanks to this, so you can infinitely cast Steal Essence to kill mobs now.

Don't really know which armor you should use, but I still see most Warcryers in Robes I guess.
I prefer wc because it is easier to lvl up and after awaking there will be no difference betwen pp and wc in skills. I do not see point in this discussion which class is better.

Only reasonable argument to lvl up pp is that it look better than orc.

I'm not so sure about advantages and PvP around level 80, last time I've seen a group of level 80-ish people PvP, they got killed by one Feoh Wizard in matter of 3-4 seconds (only because they were somewhat scattered).

Block Shield and Block WW is pretty much useless as almost everyone walks around with Mentor or Iss buffs, once awakened there's no way in hell it'll land anywhere, so once again they're useless for those 7-8 levels you have them.

Don't get me wrong, I like Prophets, but there're far more cons than pros, no matter how are you trying to put it.

There are also the racial awakened skills.
Iss Enchanters don't get a stun resistance buff, Aeore Healers do, the human Iss Enchanters at least have a racial skill that removes Stun (and hold/poison/sleep) and immunizes against it for 10 seconds ;)
Awakening racial skillZ and look are important too. I would prefer a Human Iss over an Orc Iss based on look alone.

Lv 80 people vs a Feoh Wizard don't matter since awakened people can easily kill non-awakened people, regardless of their gear/party composition.
Block Shield and Block WW is pretty much useless as almost everyone walks around with Mentor or Iss buffs, once awakened there's no way in hell it'll land anywhere

Can anyone confirm if these skills really are useless or not after 85? Enchanting Skills+Empower+huge m atk weapon?

Also there are a lot of debuffs from some classes which could open a window.

Thanks.
Which server are you playing on?

I'm playing on Naia, I recognize your name from somewhere... you happen to play there too? ;p

In theory, non-awakening skills are far less effective against awakened players and 85+ mobs. But since I'm far from Awakening, I cannot test myself.

On a side note, I happen to play in Naia too :P

Yes, and in a few days I can take mentees if you want to level your prophet right away.

@Welsh Steel
Awakened characters got higher resist against CCs. I had hard time landing +9 Stigma on level 82 mobs, so don't want to imagine what kind of Block Shield/WW would you need to land it on anyone above 85.

Besides Block WW is replaced by Ultimate Suspension and Block shield by Ultimate Scourge. Both of them seems better debuffs considering they'll have most likely far higher chance to land.

@Tiferet
Yes, I know, just merely pointing out that you'll not have many chances to prove how Prophet shines in PvP, considering ToI, GC and Swampland are all crowded with some patrolling Awakened characters and even in lower areas you'll meet people who have an Iss following around (and onehitting lowbies in case they're flagged).

What level are you?
Onmy soulbreaker, i couldn't land death mark on GC, put it +5 it started to land when i was 77, but it never landed on swamp monsters, i got 80 and it lands on yellow swamp monsters always (skill is still +5) but not light red ones.

Well, 85, soon 86.
But I've been trying my +9 stigma for a while at swamps. In GC it lands almost always, easily. In swamplands you can land debuffs on Arbitors, Treasure chests, those jellyfish things and the fat pile of stones (sorry for that, I'm not good with names). One out of maybe 40 Stigmas landed on Insane whatever(wolves?) and on the huge weird looking many headed wolves and other harder swamp mobs never a single one. I know +9 is kind of low for that and the mobs there got slightly strong mdef, also I didn't have a great gear, but I just want to say it's unlikely you'll land your block skills anywhere. :)
Was the same with me concerning arbitors, it does land on them. I also don't advise to keep the old debuffs. Specially magical oriented debuffs.
