I am curious about the cake creation though, and how it can fail. I could see it failing if someone accidentally used baking soda instead of baking powder, but the recipe here doesn't even call for baking powder... or flour! This is going to be one mouth-numbing cake (maybe that's the goal, to help keep people quiet?).
You should have implemented lvl restriction so as to be able to participate . Now the server will be flooded with low lvl bot toons farming the event items at low lvl areas.

All of them are "Cannot be exchanged or dropped". Meaning even the permanent items are "event" type item.

I've played months ago on private servers which had this system. So it existed , but wasn't enabled here.

I use English to communicate in the game, but what I mean and when and a very large text, I do not understand everything in English, as we said before so I understand the Basics for good coexistence in the game, all that was learned in the proper lineage 2 with players who were teaching me.
For example: conssigo understand a subject for Boss to form one o'clock PT or UP, the more I can not read a book in English.

The success rates of getting particular rewards is not public information. The only rate made public with this event is the crafting success rate for the basic Valentine Cake. Suffice it to say that the permanent boss jewel rewards are by far the rarest rewards in this event, as they are meant to be an extra special prize to the lucky players that receive it.

It is a balance between how much XP is needed, how much Vitality is needed for a healthy boost, and how much playtime is lots without being too much. Try it out before deciding on a stance, you may see a noticeable and positive difference.
So just to be clear is there a chance to make the miracle cake or just buy it using NCoins?
If you buy the Miraculous Cake Ingredient and take it, along with a Perfect Valentine Cake, to the event NPC (Queen of Hearts), she'll make the Miraculous Valentine Cake for you. You cannot buy the Miraculous Valentine Cake directly, so you will need to acquire both the ingredient and the Perfect Valentine Cake on your own.

Lately our creative designers are focusing on more visually-concentrated pages, hence the text-on-image pages we've seen recently. I've pointed out the caveat about this method, though, so perhaps they will revert to regular text in the future, or alternatives.

OK, this is getting stupid. First people are saying its gonna be easy to do the quest and get boss jewels, and now there's people saying how hard it is to get the quest items.
IMO, on getting the permanent boss jewels, your chances of this happening is just a little bit better than winning the lottery. First you have to bake a valentine cake, then use the item, and get a CHANCE to get a better cake, and repeat until you get a perfect cake. If you're really lucky and didn't get any of the other rewards and got to a perfect cake, and turned it into a miraculous cake, you're probably gonna get the probably most common 3-day boss jewel, and if you're really lucky a 7-day one. Only if you're stupidly lucky, the stars are in perfect alignment, and all religions in the world are praying for your success holding a rabbit's foot and a 4-leaf clover while wishing on a falling star will you get the permanent one.
Granted, there will be people running around with 3-day and 7-day boss jewels. So what? tough it out for 3-7 days, and its gone.

First I would like to give you thanks for the exceptional customer service you provide. I can understand how these forums can quickly become Hornet Nest Like whenever someone shares their displeasure with anything game related.
I have a question concerning this event. I play anywhere from 2 to 5 hours after work. I love any and all events. I appreciate the face the NCsoft takes the time to implement these events no matter what the rewards are.
Back to my question, I was on for about 3 hours last night and I only recieved 4 Dark Chocolate 7 White chocolate and 3 Creme Fraiche. Now when I say I was on for 3 hours, that was 3 hours of non stop grinding. So, that is a total of 14 Event items. Clearly, that was not enough to make a cake.
So, is the drop rate on these Event items working as intended? Or, is the drop rate a little low?
I spoke with countless people asking if they had any better luck. The drop rate was really bad last night for everyone I spoke to. To be more precise, the hours I spent trying to collect these items was between 6 PM est and 9 PM est.
Usually for these type of events, you see many sell shops in town selling these items. I could not find a single sell shop. There are an abundance of buy shops however. So, judging from the small sample size of data that I have collected, the event drops are few and far between.
Sace, could you please confirm that the event drop rate is working as intended or not? If this is the correct drop rate, I will have to pass on this particular event. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

You did rather well. In about three hours of hunting yesterday I scored 2 pieces of each chocolate. It's really surprising to see the drop rate so low... I think I'd be lucky to be able to make a single cake before the event is even wrapped up!
We need you to check up on this Sace, the drop rate is ridiculously poor. The majority of players will be lucky to make more than a cake or two, it doesn't appear to be working as intended. NCSoft will be lucky to sell one Miraculous Cake item at this rate.
Makes me wonder how much life does this game have. Do you guys seriously test the events before production release. From what I see especially casual players. They wont have enough time to gather cake drops to form a substantial amount of valentine cakes for this event. Or is the event based for bots.
I hope you can see my point of view as listed below.
Casual player:
1 - Has to go to work.
2 - Works from 9am till probably 7pm depending how strict boss is on the day
3 - Player comes home to say hi to family and eat and drink and socialise with them for a bit.
4 - By the time you know it's probably past 9:30pm
5 - How much playing time do you think this casual player has before bedtime
6 - Do you think this player will gather enough cake drops before next maintenance ?
I think you guy's accidently coded something wrong, instead of programming a low amount of bots logging in I think you coded a low amount of cake drops.
Let's not forget what it takes to get the cake to 4 different stages. Do you seriously believe there is enough time/drops for a casual player to make several of these ? or let alone be satisfied with the event itself ?
Lineage 2 has had some great events in the past and some no so great events. Though given the release of the game I thought human intelligence is suppose to improve over time based on trial and error. But i guess in this game it's still in it's primitive stages development wise.

ps. just to add some data for post above . I come home from work and got around 5-6 hours to play, same for my wife. But recently I just do Nursery + SoA daily, that's approximately 40-50 minutes of hunting time a day for us.
With such low drop rate of event items I will be very lucky if I can craft 5 cakes during this week.
I hope NCSoft doesn't expect selling many Special Ingredient Packs.

In 6-7 years of playing I've never seen an event relying on multiple items to gain a reward with such a poor drop rate. Usually events like this drop a lot but one type of object is rare (EG Creme Fraiche). Last event I gained at least 50-100 fragments in a few hours hunting.

Other way around you just indirectly said that the amount of items droping for every player is directly related to the whole server population. Like there is a limit of how many items are dropping for whole server lets say in an hour => more players actively involved in killing => same max amount being distributed equally between these players.

Even when divided up by 3 separate items, we are not seeing any rate near that. I don't have 100s of chocolates or creams after hunting for 4 hours straight like I would have in the past, I have less than 10 in some cases! You are either deliberately lying or have been given faulty information. It's also clear that the cream has a lower rate than the other two chocolates, I suggest that you check again.

So, the event is just badly designed? I have never seen event items drop at such a scarce rate in the last 8 years. Here's an example: 30 minutes of Nursery during the Tersi's Light event; 30-50 fragments. 30 minutes during the Valentine's Event; 0-3 ingredients.
It doesn't come close to any previous events in terms of drop rate.

Could be, drop rate still seems noticeably much lower to me than for other events so far though. Been playing every evening since the event started plus this morning, did soa nursery instance 3 or 4 times since then plus swamp quest 2-3 times and so far I have in my inventory a total of 7 white chocolates, 11 black chocolates and 3 creme fraiche. That seems low to me. Not enough to try a single cake so far.
(yes, I am only soloing. No chance for parties these days since ncsoft's decision to change half the classes to iss enchanter, but at the same time design it so that every party only wants ONE. Soloing to 90+ ftw)
All I see is the drop rate certainly varies depending on the time of day.
There are hours when I get literally zero drops, and there are hours when I get an event item every few kills.
This sounds like a typical Korean event design. Move on, there's nothing really new here.
So far the only way I've managed to make cakes is by buying off the RMT bots in town who all seem to have 100s of pieces somehow. Players can hardly expect to be able to craft a single cake a day, RMT bots have a monopoly on the market and sell the stuff and have players buying adena off them to buy the event items in hope of an anth.
First time I've ever said this about an event that drops off mobs but..... great for Farmers, making them $$$$$$$$$$$$$ BIG time, they must be really loving this event.
To summarize all the complaints: Give us free epics, otherwise the Event sucks.
I'd say keep your free epics and bring back the double XP weekends. Since the 85+ grind is pretty equivalent to the oldschool grind if not much worse what are they holding out for?
86+ seems to be created for bots or for those who are happy to pay 60$/month for 50% XP Rune. The Free to Play concept is applicable only to casual players, if you want to be competitive, you have to pay. And it's a whopping 4 times more expensive than when it used to be Pay to Play.
The whole NC's lawsuit against "the next best MMO" makes little sense when NC is so brutally pushing their players to quit L2.
I saw the posts of players saying the drop rates were low so I asked the rates to be looked at. What we found is that they are correct and working as intended. Unfortunately my reasoning about player perception makes sense to some players but not to everyone. Regardless, the fact remains that the drop rate is working correctly.
for those of us who can remember the valentine event back when it was 1st apperad(i think before 3 years) we simple understand that something is wrong here.on the 1st time of this event cakes was droped very easy,so dont pretend they working as intended and verify us that there u did something wrong.
anyway i dont understant if u want to make money,why u put so much low rates.who,or maybe how many times u think someone gona buy the item with ncoins with that rates?he can craft 1?2?3 cakes?wow

Correct and working as intended is NOT the same as "drop rates are the same as all other events, you guys are just being crybabies". Certainly, you have the privilege of defining what is correct and if something is working as intended, but that is a different issue entirely.
The drop rates for this event are lower than what your player base considers normal. Recognize it. Tell us to deal with it if you won't change it, but don't try to play it off as business as usual. It's insulting.
Ok..after several "collecting items events" im still wondering why NCsoft did not get their lesson and did not set up all event items (those which are collected and reward as well) as non tradeable and with this step to make unreasonable for botters to create accounts... just sad that the same people still "care" about our fun.. :(
Well ... I just wanted to say (and I know this is happening to many players) that since the Valentine's event began, it became impossible to log in, which means I will not see what this event is, and I'm losing xp. I just hope that when the event is over I can login again. Soooooo saaaaaad :(. =*
I like how in order to get the best rewards from this game, you need to spend money... ******* hilarious.
This is probably going to be the model for all future events. I think the low drop-rate probably backfired on this one. Think of how much money they could have raked in if it was higher.

Who else could not fix a bug, while people complain about their event being broken.

50 cakes in a week? What do you do other than play L2?
I had a 5 hour marathon yesterday and managed enough to make 3 cakes. In total i've made about 10 cakes in total and thats from solo grinding.
The drops were uneven though, I seem to get loads of Creme Fraiche and White Chocolate while getting very little Dark Chocolate.
Though when I logged into a lowbie alt, I was getting tons of Dark and White Chocolate and absolutely not Creme Fraiche.
Besides the RNG is horrible...healing pots only...zzz
Wanna trade White chocolate for dark :P! its working opposite to me, 12 cakes so far and 2 pefect ones, 2 or 3 chances for most players seems quite well for me for a chance at EPIC, it was not supposed to be a give all event, its a event ppl <.< a PLUS... not a must get the top item
I got a ton of R life elixers and temporary HP potions, a unicorn transformation scroll, 2 Blessed Scrolls of Ressurections, and an a High Grade Life Stone.
Farming the items wasn't an issue for me... but the rewards haven't exactly been rewarding.
I don't know what anyone else's experiance with this has been but it might as well not be an event at all. Bring back the christmas trees with the vitality maintaining buffs =/

lol, it has to be hard ... just think how easy is to kill antharas for random players? Now they have a small chance to get that most-wanted anthy... is small, but is a chance.
At least they make an event, not like most MMO that make 2 or 3 Events a year.
On L2, you got basacly 1 event for each year event, that makes what? like 30 events a year, with 3/5 days duration.
Free for all, some might need some "extra", but still, because of THIS event that you're complaining, i've already accomplished almost 3kk, in around 4h gameplay, so i have absolutely nothing to complain.

Ncsoft has failed to learn the lessons of the games that come before it, and while the market may bare the prices ncsoft has chosen, they are clearly missing out on potential profit by maintaining artificially high prices. Ncsoft has always been slow to move, and rarely admit their mistakes, much less fix them. And all the while, we the player base suffer. We want to buy things, but they won't let us. Why on earth would they make birthday potions a limited time offer for over 25 dollars? That is a staple item every single level 85+ needs, in quantities surpassing hundreds. Not that a lowbie like yourself would know, but they are forefitting massive profits with these poor, uneducated, and completely detached pricing schemes.
The latest fiasco simply underlines their incompetence. A 2 dollar gamble for boss jewelry? Sounds lucrative on paper, but the ingame prerequisites to spin the will are ridiculously low so why even bother? Were they hoping some rich fool would not read the fine print and buy a bunch of ingredients or something?
The result is this: the player base has lost even more confidence in ncsoft, nobody really got a chance to buy the item so ncsoft doesnt make any money, and everybody loses. It would have made more sense to up the drop rate on event items, raise the rate at which the cake leveled, and changed the rewards for the cash shop part. Sure, a .0001% chance for a perm jewel is acceptable, but the 3 and 7 day jewel varieties are completely worthless. This event has been a failure on almost every front.
However, to give you a rough idea of NCSofts idea of appropriate chances for permanent rewards:
During the Christmas Tree Event I completely stopped leveling and farmed snowmen like crazy, hunted for trees to decorate and kept track of tree reset times on a piece of paper.
I played with two chars (2 clients on one PC) to get more drops from snowmen and decorate more trees. In the end I managed to get roughly 3000 Santa Girl's Gift Boxes. Out of those 3000, I did not get a single one of those permanent cloaks that I really wanted for two of my characters. Only tons of time-limited ones, which I instantly destroyed because I could not use them yet anyway.
I *did* get a perfect cake from this event (one), but with the experience from last events chances there is no way I pay money to obtain a jewel for 3 or 7 days with a 99,99 % chance. I opened it and got a blessed enchant weapon S.
Players trying to sell 60-100kk for perfect cakes xD! when the chance on a perma epic is so low, 10kk i say would had been even a better deal, since in my experience 1 on each 7 cakes go perfect.

Well how about the fact that maybe 75% of the cakes are yet to be crafted ?!? 2658324658776578 shops for buying chocos.. I saw a dwarf BUYING 5k of each mat for the cake (WTF rly ...) and what u expect ?! Now calculate the chance of that. The perma jewels R yet to come :cool:

Thought about buying the shop item for a chance at boss jewels. Glad I did not. In the whole week, I managed to get enough ingredients to make 2 cakes, neither of them went high enough to actually think about using the shop item. One cake gave a lifestone, the other some healing pots.
Seriously, if you put items into the cash shop which people are supposed to buy and use during an event, first make sure that players actually get enough event drops to NEED those cash shop items :D

The only thing that makes sense to me is that they were banking on people being stupid enough to buy them before trying to make cakes. But, given our new population, they probably did okay on it. :D
