Welcome to the Lineage II Official Forums!

If you are new to the game's forums you may be seeking direction and advice on how to use them and how to find the information you need about the game itself.

This post contains the following:

Forum rules: what you need to know in order to post here
How to contact staff for issues or questions

How to use the forums

Forum account creation and set-up
Forums directories and popular sections
How to search the forums for a particular topic

How to get to the Lineage II or NCSOFT websites, or your account management page from here
How to submit a bug report (in-game bugs only)
How to report a player in-game that is offensive or may be cheating
How to report a player on the forums that is breaking the forum rules

1. Official Forum Rules
The forum rules (http://boards.lineage2.com/announcement.php?f=137) a must-read for all players that want to post on the forums. We encourage players to be civil with each other, and to be constructive when giving feedback about the game to the Lineage II staff. If a player posts something and ends up with an unexpected infraction (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=213630) for it, they may have been able to avoid it if they'd read the forum rules and understood what is and isn't allowed on the forums, and why.

2. How to contact staff for issues or questions:
If you have issues with your game installation, game play, account status, payment issues for NCoin, or other technical concerns, contact the support team (https://lineage2.custhelp.com/app/ask/). This link is the best way to reach them and to keep track of your support tickets, and it is always available. You can also contact the support team by sending a petition while playing the game, but this system is only available during limited hours daily and note that the petition is automatically closed if you log out, whether you have received a response or not. Therefore we recommend that you use the website support form, linked above.

If you have issues with your forum account or general questions for the staff, you can contact myself or another moderator by sending a private message on the forums. All staff members on the forums have red names and titles.

By the way, hello, I am Sace, the Community Manager. A community manager, well, manages the community. :) You are the (player) community. I am the most accessible staff member to players on the forums. I answer player questions, post official announcements and read the new posts on the forums on a regular basis. I am tasked to always know what players are talking about and what the community's current mood is. Myself and some other staff members also moderate the forums. I control certain sections of the Lineage II website, analyze statistics from player surveys and topics, write reports on the community's status for executives throughout the company, go to live events and give swag items, generally work as the liaison between players and the rest of the company, and much more.

Please know that there are some things a community manager cannot do: investigate possible cheaters, ban players from the game, fix bugs, provide in-depth technical or account support, and other GM or technical duties. If you need those things, contact the support team (https://lineage2.custhelp.com/app/ask/).

3. How to use the forums:
Log in: The forums can be viewed in their entirety without being logged in, but to post on the forums, you must have an active Lineage II game account. Your login name and password for the forums are the same as your login name and password for the game itself. If you have trouble logging in to the forums, check and see if you can login to the game; remember, if your game account is inactive (no game time), you will not be able to log in to the game nor the forums.

Choose a forum name: When logging into the forums for the first time, you will be prompted to choose a forum name. Many players choose to make their forum name the same as the name of their main character. Others prefer otherwise. The choice is yours. Just remember:

If you want to change your forum name to something else, you need to contact the forum administrator and request a change; keep in mind that forum name changes are a one-time courtesy! The following requirements will apply to this change:

One forum name change per account.
Accounts with official forums warnings/violations on record may not be changed.
The requested forum name is not already in use.
The requested forum name must be appropriate.

To find out if a desired name is available, use the 'Search Members' function on the right side of the Members List (http://boards.lineage2.com/memberlist.php) page. If you wish to change your forum name, PM the Community Manager with your request.

Customize your profile:

On the top left, click on "User CP". (That means User Control Panel.)
In the left column, you can see everything you can edit about your profile. Some popular options:

Edit Options: Adjust the functions you want displayed and some privacy settings, and set your forum account to your local time zone.
Edit Your Details: If you want to, list your contact information, location, server, character level, interests, and other stuff.
Edit Avatar: This is the little picture that shows up under your name when you post. You can choose from one of the hundreds of preset Lineage II-themed avatars, or you can link to an external image. Images cannot be uploaded.
Edit Signature: A signature is the bottom section of every post you make. Many players on these forums post their character information here, usually their class and their character level(s), and sometimes their character name. You can also link an image to use as a signature, but make sure that it follows the forum rules (http://boards.lineage2.com/announcement.php?f=137).

Browse the forums, or search for a particular topic:

When viewing the forums' homepage, you can see descriptions under each forum section which explain what that section is for. Some helpful ones for new players and/or forum posters:

News & Announcements (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=137): The game servers undergo a maintenance session every week. This forum section tells you when the next maintenance will be and what (if anything) that maintenance will change in the game. Only staff can post threads here.
Player Questions (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=181): If your post contains a question about the game, post it here. If you have a question about your game installation, game error messages, login problems, or anything else that is not actually inside the game world, please post it in the General Technical Issues section.
General Discussion (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139): This is the most varied and populated forum section. Threads here are usually started as a way to begin a discussion with other players about a particular topic.
Clan Recruitment Hall (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=219) (scroll down a bit to find it): If you are looking for a clan to join or looking for more players to join your own clan, post here. Be sure to check the server-specific stickied threads at the top of the page; they list many of the clans on each server that are looking for new members.
General Technical Issues (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=173): If you're having trouble with installation, or graphic issues, or you're seeing error codes when playing or logging into the game, go here and get answers or advice from other players that know about the issue you're seeing. Please note that the NCSOFT tech support staff does not read this forum section. To contact them, visit the Support website. This forum section is not the place to report bugs you find in-game; read below for that.
Server Discussion (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=129): Post on topics specific to your server, recruit or search for clans on your server, and create WTB, WTT, or WTS (Want To Buy/Sell/Trade) threads for your in-game wares.
(http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=127)Awakened Class Discussion (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=264) or Pre-Awakened Class Discussion (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=127): Got questions about your class or want advice about a particular skill or set-up? Browse threads and post questions here.

Search the forums for existing topics before creating a new one; it's highly encouraged. It's likely that whatever topic or question you have already has a dedicated thread somewhere on the forums. Use the search function before you post so that we don't end up with duplicate threads and spam. One exception: if you find an existing thread on your topic that is over 2 years ago, please do not post in it (that's called necro-posting; plus, the info is likely outdated and now wrong). This is how to perform a basic search:

Click of the 'Search (http://boards.lineage2.com/search.php)' link on your forum tool bar.
It's recommended that you go directly to 'Advanced Search.'
Enter a keyword that represents the topic you're looking for.
In Show Results As, it's recommended that you select 'Posts.'
Click 'Search Now.'
If you selected 'Show Results As Posts,' you'll see a list of every post that includes your keyword, displayed in a way that you can read a bit of the post's actual text without going further.
If you click on a thread/post there, you're taken to the actual thread about that topic, and your keyword will be high-lighted in red.

4. How to get to the Lineage II and NCSOFT websites, and account management:

In the pretty picture at the top of every forum page, you can click on 'Lineage II' and be taken to the official Lineage II website's homepage.
On the bar at the top of your browser there are links to the NCSOFT website and other NCSOFT games, and most importantly to your account management page (My Account (https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/accountManagement.pl)) and the Support website (https://help.ncsoft.com/app/ask).

5. How to submit a bug report:
GMs and QA do not read these forums nor collect bug reports from here. The preferred method for bug reporting is to use the in-game petition client, or the support website (https://help.ncsoft.com/app/ask) (the support website lets you write more words). Whenever you are reporting a bug, please try to include all of the following information:

Bug Summary
Steps to Reproduce
Location when bug occurred (/loc if possible)
Character Race
Character Class
Character Name
Any important details related to the bug, such as quest name, item name, skill name, npc name, etc.

6. How to report a player in-game that might be cheating:
An extremely important rule on the forums is do not publicly accuse another player of cheating! On top of being against the rules, GMs do not read these forums, so this is quite simply not the place to report a cheating player. To report a player you think is cheating, use the in-game petition client, or the support website (https://help.ncsoft.com/app/ask). When reporting a player, be sure to include the following information:

Character name(s)
Server name
What they were doing that made you think they might be cheating.
(optional but helpful) Location and time of day (with timezone) that you witnessed the suspicious activity.

On the forums, it is permitted to talk very generally about cheaters. It is not permitted to post a character name, clan name, or forum name of a player and say they are cheating.

7. How to report a forum post or user for breaking the forum rules:
If you see a post that you find offensive and/or that is breaking the forum rules, you can 'report' it to a moderator. The Report Post function is the small triangle with a '!' (exclamation point) inside, and it is at the bottom left of every single post on the forums. Please be careful to not abuse the Report Post function. For example, if you and another player are disagreeing about a topic and fighting and insults ensue, you should not report them for disagreeing with you or because you don't like them. You should only report a post if it breaks the forum rules, or if it is offensive to you (if it's not breaking any rules but you are offended, please explain how/why so that we understand). Reporting a post does not guarantee that the post will be altered or removed, but it does guarantee that a moderator will take a close look at the post and act accordingly.
