Who misses C1?

Was just thinking about how much I missed C1.

Spending hours in talking island farming losing my **** when wooden gaiters dropped and I didn't have to buy them.

The only way to upgrade gear was to sell and buy the next piece.

Farming outside of Gludin in my Bronze set that took me a week to get seeing a player in Manticore flagged, and deciding to run away to save my ****. lol

No a days stuff is too easy to get. Too fast to lvl.

I made this char/account and I got it from 1-81 in 36 hours off raidbosses. And plan to be 86 today after maintenance only to be given free bound R grade.

Its not longer about getting better gear its just about who has the most cash to enchant there gear up.

Don't get me wrong i still love L2 but i miss the good ol days.

PS Doing the new subclass quest, i stayed in TI for like a hour just for nostalgia reasons on an alt lol remember back to when it was filled with shops like a proper Giran
C1 looks like a stone age now. No world map. You do quest to get it or buy from shop. No newbie buffs, no free gear, slow leveling until lv19 then class change quest. Then long leveling till 35 and long chain of 2nd class quests. C grade equipent is best what you can get from shops, no SA, no augments. And soulshots/spiritshots are quite a money sink (or source of profit if you're a dwarf crafter). Top C and all B grade equipment only obtainable by crafting. Level cap 74, but skill levels until ~60 i think. End game LoA party and Antharas epic raid. No epic jewels. And all classes had much less skills (c1 summoners anyone?). But it was time when Prophet weren't useless and PK system wasn't messed up and most of skills weren't nerfed down. Like wind shackle debuff -300% atk speed or fast casting Sleep for nukers and uninteruptable by Curse: poison. Etc...
Anyway c1 was fun when it was new, but to remain fun - game must change and evolve. I don't miss c1 cos i spent much time with it and to play it again would be boring.
I

Don't, cause i didn't play it.

And people don't miss the chronicle, they miss the times it was new. I miss C4 but i would not play it again more than 3 months cause it's just boring considering how spoiled we are with graphics, areas, armors, builds.
I miss c2, that is when I started playing mainly. Buying the map from the shop. The world was smaller. Pvp was everywhere people were going red left and right. It was fun times. I think it started going down hill when Boss Jewlery was implimented and CP. Of course updating the specs to play the game didn't help. But, yeah that was my golden time.
Hehe...i sure remember those days and yes sometimes i miss them ( i dont miss having to click on the soulshot for usage tho ). The main Marketplace at that time was Gludin and to go off to any other town and lvl was very exciting as it was a whole new world waiting to be explored, i would spend hours just looking around ( by running not porting cuz ya nvr had enough cash ). I remember when you dropped your gears to a pker and how long it took to get it back. Yes there were times this was very frustrating but , yeah, i sure miss those days. Nowadays, everything is just handed to you on a silver platter and ya dont have to work for anything ( no sense of accomplishment at all ). Sometimes when i want to remember those days , ill go to my screenshot folder and peruse all my toons, cuz everytime i hit a Milestone lvl i took a screenshot of my toons in their new gears. ** Hum...sure miss those days
I would rather say, "who not"?
Tbh I didn't even know that there is a game called "Lineage II" at the time when there was Chronicle 1 update. I started playing on C3 and I remember how many people were siting with their shops in the Gludin Village or Gludio Castle Town or pvping outside Gludio and Dion.
I won't forget this good old times. It was just awesome! Far better than today's updates. There are not even catacombs in the game anymore :(
If there is something I miss is WoW vanilla days, but L2 C1 is from stone age as someone posted above, maybe only good for dorfs with a boxed buffer that could make money, and the old pvp system, but all the rest was horrible.
Game is only super fast to lvl untill 86,supposed this way they help new players to ''learn'' play somehow their class and understand basic fuctions of game so they can start taken part in game activitys and not stay always lowbies comparing to older players.

After 90,if not able to have a daily xp party things become tougher, after 93 if not good xp/farm party its getting worst.after 95 if you dont use coin shop and have a constant party you want to quit.

I miss all from old ''genuine'' L2, basic difference is that back then we could be indipendent and feel we are ''playing'' a game to laugh and contest, last years updates made game feel almost like a prison, giving us stress instead of fun.
I miss the potential the game had in C1, a constant massive pvp focus over territory and resources. Sadly none of that came to fruition. I still have by old L2 box picturing a castle siege with dragons and siege engines. What they call pvp in this game feels pointless and too sporadic and too easy to avoid when it could happen with all the bsoe's and such.

The game unfortunately now has an identity crisis, it wants to be an instance based daily mob grind but also an epic raiding game with some convoluted structured pvp systems that most avoid and some don't even know exist with almost-rewards(things like Aerial Cleft, Kratei's Cube, Underground Oly, etc.). It's just trying to be too many things with a hacked up game and graphics engine that is buckling under the pressure because it wasn't designed to handle these things and doesn't take into account modern hardware architecture.

still have that box.

haven't played retail in a few weeks now, don't see myself coming back anytime soon either. the game is **** now compared to anything pre-GoD, i hated most of the gracia update but still prefer it over what the game is now. there is no pvp now, there are no memorable areas, there's the old great game from 1-85 which is now irrelevant, and then nothing after awakening.
I miss c4/c5/interlude....yeah
But hey don't worry, if you think stuff is too easy to get just keep playing, that R grade stuff is the last thing you're getting for free :p and trust me: you won't be 99 in 36 hours.
Sadly the money part is true, It's a pity l2 is the proptotype for this "free to play" model so you could kinda assume they're experimenting with this game and the community...better to get used to it or just look for some private server :)
he he old time, hard to get some items, like samurai sword or a grade armour. I keep all these tings (no grade blunt, s grade mastery set, some old items, etc). I miss long time party 4-5 hours/day, now we have instances, 2 kartia - soa, fortuna/spez/ etc - 4 hours gone to fast and hard to fiind party grind.

Those videos still bring a tear to my eye when I think about all the fun I used to have so many years ago. Today's L2 is nothing more than a WoW clone. :P

Yeah, I remember doing Antharas wearing C Grade on my female Dark Elf Spellhowler (Level 46) with about 200 other players. It took us a little over 2 hours to do it but we killed him. :D

It's Antharas... Anthy=big green horned dragon, Valakas=big red angry dragon.
It's the Land Dragon for ya. :p

I loved the movie. Seen it a couple years ago, it seems unbelievable that people dared to go killing Antharas with D/C grade gear! (Never played C1 btw, at tha time I was probably still playing with my Commodore 64 :p )

AHHHHHHHHH! I still have my Commodore 64 set up in the corner of my kitchen since I STILL play certain games on it. Next to that I have my old Commodore Amiga 2000HD working as there were many games I loved to play on it. LOL

I am soooo old!

Well, as for Antharas TBH you didn't miss a lot... Of course, it's an epic and legendary dragon, but if you actually go there, it's a way too long and mind numbing experience with 5 FPS, lot's of delay, and you barely see the dragon itself, unless you have a really good PC. Maybe Anthy is a legend, but for going there and killing, simple Istina is way more fun (actually for me Istina is way more fun, than any raid I did in L2).
Well, at least I have cool screenshots.

As for nostalgic feelings, yes I miss old times. When I started playing L2, it was my first MMO, and it was whole unknown and stunning world to explore. You simply cannot recreate that feeling. I wish I could play L2 for the first time again, but I also wish I could play Fallout and Fallout 2 for the first time again.
I miss the drama, love and hate, all the human relationships, but question is do they not exist in game anymore, or I just play for too long time to care. I still see people having their dramas, and maybe if the game was new for me again, these would be also my dramas and serious business for me too, who knows.
IMO the thing is, that if you get to know certain game too well, you loose part of the fun.

The part in which the current iteration of L2 is weakest for me is design of locations. After Hellbound (which was one of the best updates for me) something went really wrong. Instead of open world with interesting places that make sense, we have a theme park: here is the fairy land, here is a continent_that_is_a_life_form etc. And you can't freely move between them. I don't know, what they were thinking, when designing Gracia. Tiat instance was nice, and flying ships are cool, but I wish, they were part of some real continent, with some ground to walk around and at least a bit attention to detail.
GOG is nice and colourful, but empty, without any point to it and any interesting spots. When you compare it to i.e. Forest of Dead, which had many secrets to be discovered both in terms of lore and exping there, it looks really poor.
Maybe remaking of old location with higher level mobs is good idea, as I wouldn't mind returning to some of them.

The other thing I miss, are some really epic quests, on a scale of old subclass quest (kill all TOI bosses and Baium) or the Hellbound quest, or the quest to enter Steel Citadel, or 7 signs quest. Instead of that, we got i.e. level 90 prequests which are really badly done istances, to be completed all in a matter of 2 hours. They should also think about some old style long term farming quests (dynasty recipes in HB, S-grade recipes in varka) but I don't know how would they make such quests viable alternatives to current instances with full drops.
...

I can only say +1
I miss C2 and some of C3 but I do not miss C1, perhaps because I only played a month of it...

Most of the base L2 game mechanics were pretty poorly thought out. Most classes had very few skills to use and horrendous mp regeneration such that they had to mostly rely on autoattacks which are excessively boring and not very different from botting except you have to keep reselecting a target when the mob dies which makes it more boring than botting.

Mages had to rely on spells for damage but due to the horrendous mp regeneration rate very quickly ran out of mp and had to sit down for overly long periods of time to regenerate mp (this also made them terrible party characters and the ramifications of this problem would persist all the way until GoD when healers were able to restore the entire parties MP). Because of this problem mages tended to solo instead of partying and thankfully the mp problems of a soloing mage were slightly alleviated with the introduction of mp pots however this system also harmed mages by allowing NC to put off addressing the root system of inadequate mp regeneration. What NC should have done was either give them an ability that would allow them to fully restore their mp every 10 minutes or simply not make nukes consume MP (since the autoattacks of melee characters didn't consume mp and a mages nukes are no different from a melee classes autoattacks).

The only good thing about C1 was that B grade items had a very high chance of dropping in TOI (nerfed into the ground in C2 because idiotic Korean players were complaining about getting too many drops). The other good thing was that the game was more tied to the game's lore and you actually felt like your character was part of the game world. Now however the game is completely divorced from the lore and whatever story they were trying to create (something about Shilen entering the world or whatever) simply does not mesh with the gameplay and areas they created.

If Shilen was really trying to enter the world then we should actually be seeing horrible things happening, insane mobs should be assaulting the towns and roaming in large packs or something, Fire and brimstone coming from the sky (players should take damage during this period), Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from their graves, Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

But that isn't what they implemented. What they implemented were very tame hunting grounds and instances which do not present any feeling of immediacy.

Trust me when I say you didn't miss much, sure it's neat to do for the first time but they are more trouble than they're worth imo. Can't remember what chronicle I did anthy in, just remember a lot of deaths over the course of several hours + lag.

Never did a real valakas raid, only glitched it before they fixed the rock thing. Wasn't laggy like anthy, but doing a dragon with 2 boxed parties = extremely boring and long. Never did either one after that, would rather go out and do something than hit F1 for 3 hours on the same mob.
What I really hate is the lack of open pvp we had back in the time. I remember when I played with my clan, and one of our members got killed in FG, the whole clan tped there at once and kicked the enemy clan's ***. Then they come back, and we fought for like a hour and ended up crushing them and win. That was fun. Also I remember when I crafted my first SOM, it took a whole lot of time for the CLAN (not just me) to get the resources to build one. I was one of the highest lvl from the clan at that time, and they gave me the equipment, and I defended them against pkers and enemy clans. It was so cool. You had to watch in 360 to spot enemy groups from far.

PS: Here is some fun retro for you: :D

Ppl. I even wasnt born yet back in C1. I started in some place between C2 and C3 and old moments still bring me chill vibrations in my body. It is greate sage. Whole this game and wonderfull ppl who make it. NCSoft dont give up. They just makes game easier for us so we simply get in to trap some where on Triskan boss or weak pt die in Kartia labirynth. Yes things are the same you just get older. Back in fiew years back i think i just had different pc, game servers were in other city and my screen just was getting more and more blue colored shape after having oryginal Korean L2 fun wallpaper on desktop and only icon i had on pulpit was Lineage II. :D Gogo marines keep playing!

wow , well as i know still 1 l2 c1 server search it on google and you will find it guys
I miss open/closed beta -Prelude, 1-40 was the longest time took months. Now it takes an hour.

L2 has got to be the only game that I play, quit, play, quit, play, quit. It has the "Grab You and Shake" affect.

Still a great game regardless of it's flaws. I wish PVP was a little bit more open, and you took bigger exp loses than you do now. But eh.

what? you miss closed beta ?? the alpha beta that only played by 400 koreans are you one of they?
More info about what im talking:

How about you stop going around the boards advertising C1 private servers?
I miss that game much more, camping bodies making them click to town, blood thirsty pvp with no bres/bsoe. People losing 50% in a siege. Actual hunting of reds, with them dropping items. People going so red it would take a week to work off (g4 :P).

And this (for all you old gustin ppl):

Closed Beta was not played by 400 Koreans, I am talking about closed beta on the US servers.
and it was like in the screns that i sent you?

You didn't send me any screen prints so I dunno what you are talking about.

Those pictures you just posted here look like closed beta, but it's been a long time since I've played it so it's hard to remember every little detail, the blue surrounding is familiar and the inventory and party. and nerka was eleven ruins on talking island.
In fact that was open beta i have client and server files of it.

this is alpha beta totally diferent from c1 , c0 , open beta
http://forum.7fuegos.com/uploads/1309983441/gallery_1_2_65745.jpg

Open Beta, and closed beta was the exact same client.

As far as Alpha Beta, I believe this was only released in Korea.
Yea, and I miss other things from previous chronicles.

I miss training mobs onto bots and farming gear from them. Used to be a great way of keeping the Chinese in check, and keep your enemies from blatantly botting.

I miss AoE farming, sure it exists in some format, but it is a pale shadow of it's old self.

I miss old PvP. You know, after 50v50 clashing for almost an hour, when everyone ran out of mana AND buffs 20 minutes ago and resorted to scroll rez.

I miss old class balance. Dominators, summoned golems, bladedancers, sword singers. Clunky mechanics to be sure, but it had a uniqueness that other games lack. Now you're just another buffer, or another dwarf.

More than anything I miss the people. I've played alot of games, pretty much every major MMO release since 2002. There has never been a community such as that within L2. Orphus, Blah, and even the mulitude of private servers. Such harsh, yet unbelievably dedicated people. You know the game has a special place within your heart when your closest enemy quits the game, and you feel sad.

Nothing like this game will ever happen again. I don't know whether to be proud or frustrated.

I miss MMORPG games. Not the new crap generation.
Wonder if the incoming ones are going to be trully mmorpg games, and not the same new crap which dies in 3 months either because of the baddies in charge or for the fail players when are they going to learn after so much new failures, bring back MMORPG games.

+1, the only new MMO so far that brought some hope to me was Lineage Eternal, if LE is as hard and as good as Lineage 1, this game will become my favorite MMO because I loved Lineage 1, unfortunately, L1 was taken from me and I can't play on Korean servers.

I'm afraid of the possibility of developers ruin LE as TERA devs did to TERA, making a WoW clone with easy quest chains to get capped fast, BGs and instances run after capped, an awful pk-clan war system plus meaningless world pvp. I had big hypes in TERA but everything went downhill.

I hope Eternal devs follow the example of L1, don't make another WoW clone like TERA or whatever, but a true sequel to Lineage 1.
Rivers without water, no scrolls of escape, long runs from gludin to giran, farmers "rang rang"...
I started in beta Taiwan then closed beta on NA servers :)
No one thinks blade and soul might be a good mmo? Yes its faction based pvp if I recall correctly..
