Lineage 2 to get a new race? Ertheia

So apparently a new race is coming to Lineage 2.

http://l2.laby.fr/files/arteia_art.jpg
Who is this girl?

Peace be with you! I am Kashinel, your old Lineage 2 GM!

So far only an illustration of the Arteias has been published. In order to find out more about that hidden race, I went to meet the developers, who have been feverishly busy preparing the update for quite some time.

GM Kashinel: Are the Arteias, of whom an illustration has been published, a newly added race?
Chief Developer Nam Taek-rim: Yes. That illustration shows the Arteias, a new race that will soon appear in the game.

<Developing Update Content >

GM Kashinel: When the Arteias were revealed, no further information was provided. Therefore everybody was very frightened about what specific properties they might have.
So, could you provide us with details?
Nam Taek-rim: The Arteias are a race that has been created by Sayha instilling the spirit of wind into a mold provided by Einhasad. They were playfully flitting around, and for their vivid behavior they were also rather strong.
They are a race that through their undying curiosity constantly discovers new things and is also very creative. But when they engage in battle, they attack the enemy in horrible ways that you would never expect when you see their usually pure and lovely appearance.

<Chief Developer Nam Taek-rim>

GM Kashinel: Which kind of classes will there be?
Nam Taek-rim: When you look closely at the illustration we have published before, you will realize that we are planning to introduce at first only two classes.
The name of the classes as well as their main patterns and specific properties will be revealed at a later point of time.
In this respect I have to ask you for a lot of patience ^^

GM Kashinel: But couldn't you nevertheless maybe let us know at least a little bit about the skills ... That would be greatly appreciated ... hehe ...
Nam Taek-rim: Ahem ... At first we are developing classes that use mainly camouflage skills, hiding their appearance inside of cephyrs, as well as skills that let them move their opponent close to themselves. They are classes that can control space and change the state of their opponent.
Let me say in closing that both classes will be able to hunt safely and fight joyfully. They are designed in a way that they can by properly timing the use of their skills overcome their opponent.

GM Kashinel: Hunt safely and fight joyfully? So in which combat abilities are the Arteias particularly good?
Nam Taek-rim: They are generally rather strong. Especially in solo-hunting and 1:1 PvP they are showing their strength. For mass PvP we are planning to give them a role where they are supporting their own side in a variety of ways.

http://l2.laby.fr/files/BakJongHun.jpg
<Chief Artist Bak Jong-hun>

GM Kashinel: Why is it that when I look only at the illustration I have a strong feeling of seeing an Elf?
Chief Artist Bak Jong-hun: Normally when we are dealing with teaser illustrations we must shift the focus away from realistically showing the character towards conveying a mood. In this way it can happen that when you see the picture of a pure and vivid girl, you get a feeling that it contains certain elements normally associated with Elves.
Later on we will publish regular pictures. When you then look patiently and carefully at those pictures you will notice that their visual appearance is in many points different from that of Elves or the other existing races ^^

GM Kashinel: Honorable Chief Artist, what would you say is the most important among the specific properties of the Arteias?
Bak Jong-hun: When we worked out the first rough concept, we went through a lot of pain and suffering. It was necessary to go trough a process of finding a kind of differentness that avoided getting too far away from the character of the already existing races.
For us it was extremely difficult to satisfy the two opposed requirements of having on the one hand a differentness, but on the other hand there should also not be an abrasive feeling and the new race should melt smoothly into the game. When you ask me what is the most important point about the Arteias, it's that even when you look at them from afar, you can never see their complete silhouette.

GM Kashinel: Silhouette ...
So what was the motive for choosing the Arteias?
Bak Jong-hun: You could say that the design of the Arteias did already exist; it is laid out in the lore.
Speaking just of the motive, the main reason was that they were already "designed" in a fairly detailed way and already had been given a place in the order of things. Apart from that we considered it important to avoid a duplication of existing characters and to strive for a new style.
To be more precise, we were in a way aiming for an embodiment of the "lively but tough young female warrior (or buffer)".
In that we took a completely different approach to beauty than with Dwarves or Elves, a difference you will be able to clearly see.

<Designing Arteias>

GM Kashinel: Now devote all your energies to developing! That's the most important thing!!
And let us know when we will be able to level up an Arteia in the live version of the game!!!
Nam Taek-rim and Bak Jong-hun: We will immediately get to work!

Has this information about the Arteias, who are sneaking up to us hidden behind a veil, been of much help to you?

The Lineage 2 Team is ever more busily engaged in the preparations so that you can as soon as possible meet the Arteias.

Not bad, but L2 need new engine, is 9999999x better then a new race ><
OH yes, for this they need remake full game, but?
What's the problem? L2 ins't more the Lineage2
I don't want see just more lvl, more boss, more time doing same things
I want see improved animation skills, improved graphic, improved pvp system, but keep siege system, oly system, assist/target system, for this I'm still play this game, but I rly want see something "news"
no respect these days
Respect towards thy elders thou must have, youngster!
Nice new Race..but a little boring on the game path in L2 level 50 to 85 ..hope you can bring new field, dungeon, dimension and quests for more fun in the game.. oopss new lower raid bosses too for our subclass . im excited about this new race :D
Been done seen this on Rochand :D not much interest in it either, this game needs much more than a new race,
Sounds like a perfect copy paste of Elmar's translation here : http://boards.rochand.com/viewtopic.php?p=23614#p23614

Plagiarism, plagiarism everywhere.

Those dimwits never learn. The one thing they changed was leaving away the names of Nam Taek-rim and Bak Jong-hun. So anybody reading what the MMOcast scum posted does not realize that Kashinel actually interviewed two different people who talked about two different things (classes resp. concept art). This is strongly reminiscent of the "Meridian Update" :D
Looks good, but that's all I have to say at this time.
tl;dr: not only the interview was copypasted from Elmar's translation, but the Arteias will be a female-only race.
Edited the source links, thank you.
As for the race, I think it could be a nice addition if they blend in well. However, I think more is needed than just a new race (graphical update?) to get some fresh air into the game.
Still curious how the addition of the Arteias will turn out though. I was quite sure the Kamael would be the last race to be added to the game. I guess not.
Thanks a lot for putting in the original translation! :)

As to how this will turn out, that's still totally unclear. Here is the original illustration GM Kashinel is referring to in the interview:
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/l2online/view?articleId=558375
When you run the player comments below the article through Google Translator (https://translate.google.com) you will notice that they are in their majority very positive.
But when you do the same with the comments under the Korean original (http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/l2online/view?articleId=561242) of the interview, you can see that the mood has totally changed - it is one single flame thread which, going by the complaints about deleted posts, needed to be heavily censored.

I can only guess at the reason for this sudden outbreak of aggression. Several times there are posts that say something like "where is the Classic Lineage 2?". This refers to a poll in July where players were asked in which direction they wanted the game to go (PvP, characters created at max. level ...) and the vast majority (73.8%) voted for the Classic Lineage 2:
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/board/forum/view?articleId=549931

Now, in the interview Chief Artist Bak Jong-hun is referring to the lore, where the Arteias already exist. But what Chief Developer Nam Taek-rim says about "attacking the enemy in horrible ways" (무섭게 적을 공격하는), and the military discipline required for support characters in mass PvP somehow doesn't square with the peaceful, easygoing way how the Arteias are depicted in the lore:
http://legacy.lineage2.com/background/legends02.html
Maybe it's just me, but I can't help the impression that the Korean players feel "betrayed", they seem to have the (correct) impression that their vote has not been taken into account.
The last race added worked out so well... right?
Rochand.. feeding L2-Related sites since 2005-6? :)

care to try 2010 ?
Ykara is referring to the days when Russian websites were hotlinking to the skill icons in Rohirrim's database. The Russians have come a long way since then ;)
Laby; MP me please :D
Just for fun, I'm going to say that by looking at the armor the lovely lady is wearing could quite possibly be the Bloody Eternal set. :p

This.

Somehow I imaginated Arteia to look a little like Kamael, but with two angel/butterfly wings. BTW, I dunno, but I think Arteia race will have Sigel and Aeore as 4th class...
Maybe they will implement a skill that will allow these characters to have wings and fly with. They did something similar in Aion where after the characters did their class change they were able to fly.

This reminds me the noblesses from the manga "noblesse". Nice to see a new race but i would prefer a new engine too.
So then what are the Kamael if the Arteias have been (or may be) reintroduced.

Lore hinted that the Kamael were Fallen versions of the Arteias, nao I'm like lost.
Nice to see a new race but i would prefer a new engine too.

totally agree, i'm sick of this crappy engine...
Personally, I'm not intrigued at all with this new race. I'm sure it'll have some nice skills etc.. but visually it's just another human/elf looking mix to me. I've been waiting forever for a "cool" looking race. Zombie/Undead-Dragon/Lizard-Plant-Insect, etc... Something visually appealing, and/or one of our many mob races that have decided to join our side (much like Orcs), with a nice variety of skills etc, to really spruce up the game. No cartoony "WoW" crap with animals and sh** though....don't miss my point ^^ ... But I'm content with what we have now, without yet another "human/elf" looking race.

Actually the lore said that Kamaels and Arteias are totally different races. The Kamaels being manufactured by the Giants through science (perhaps taking the Arteias as a model, but not by directly modifying an Arteia's body structure and DNA...), and the Arteias being direct creations of Einhasad with Sayha's essence of the wind.

For lulz, make the new race able to use Kamael only weapons.
Ertheia is the name of the new race, not Arteias (bad translation on old lore page (http://legacy.lineage2.com/background/legends02.html)).

actually, being that the original (korean) name given to the race was "아르테*********아," "Arteia" would be the correct translation as "Ertheia" would be "어르테*********아" in korean.

oh and koreans don't have a word to give proper pronunciation to "th," which i assume is the reason why the original translation didnt' include the "h" in "Arteia"
Thank you for links. More useful than teaser.

I personally don't have an issue with that :)

Slap a tail on it or give it big claws on the hands and feet and maybe some big teeth. LoL
add and maya the bee in next update and l2 is going to be osom!

Copyright laws beg to differ.

Unless you meant you don't have issues with female-only races.
Slap a tail on it or give it big claws on the hands and feet and maybe some big teeth. LoL

Hmm, *imagines tale, big claws, and big teeth* I don't think it'll work for these ladies... Unless it's going to be a costume for the characters, then maybe it'll work.
I found some class introduction videos on official korean site.
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/promotion/ertheia/identify/class1
http://lineage2.plaync.co.kr/promotion/ertheia/identify/class2

First looks like like some fighter/mage combination (maybe some Soul Hound clone?).
From second I have feeling of tyrr/othell combo (mobile but really strong?), definitely it's fist fighter.

Looks like Blade & Soul had some influence on the Ertheia. Another interesting thing about them is their ears look like they have feathering on them.
Ok so here, is what I'm thinking about this Ertheia update:

Yidao used to say, that Korean players are upset, that while they did request to transform the Lineage 2 back to its classical style, currently looks this process just did happen in the Lindvior-Valiance-Raiders updates and right now the developers leave their promise in half to create something, what is again totally new in the game.

For sure with a new race, the game will get a new way, need new balance system, strategies, new constant parties etc.
Also first of all at the Ertheia Wizard looks, that the developers to makes to look the new classes to more powerful, used huge skill effects, what will result more chaos in mass pvps.

But this is only how we players imagine, that the game will looks.
Probably the focus will on the Ertheia race, but it doesn't mean, that the developers won't try to complete the requests of the players.
Probably, they will add many changes what helps the game to become to more old school, to decrease the anger of the angry players.

This race is in the story and it is part of the Lineage II so the game will remain Lineage II with them, but there is the gameplay what for the developers have to focus too, if they will able to form the gameplay as the players wish, the Ertheia can achieve at the end positive results, but if not, probably they will receive a lots of negative feedbacks and can be changes in the development team again...

The Ertheia as designed looks cool I guess, may a part of people would prefer so Darkness designed race, but I guess people will love them.
the new race is just an attempt to distract the upset korean player base and it's not quite working as many posts are getting moderated on the korean nc l2 forum to hide this fact..

the existing players will regardless of the new eye candy still expect/demand the dev team to deliver what they promised so let's see how this will work out there..

potentially on top of the new race they will finish their promised work, soon more PTS details available so just a matter of patience ;)
I hope they add a race with 5 second reuse buff steal, paralyze, ud, warp, silence, fear, reflect skills, song of wind toggle, 0 sec reuse drop target nukes, and melee skills

Good thing they've never done that before.
I hope so too. :)

They did. It was the Kamael Update. Level 85 Kamael SH and DM were super scary pre-nerf.
Uh aren't the Arteias supposed to be a winged race? Where are the wings? And anyway, when the developers created the Kamael, they already sufficiently intimidated that Kamaels were the lost winged race (which is also why their final form is a return to their natural fully winged apperance) and the reason for their disappearance was because they were transformed by the Giants into Kamaels to be used to fight the gods. That was perfect, completely lore friendly as it not only meshed perfectly with the old lore but actually filled in some gaps and should have been left alone.

STOP SCREWING WITH THE LORE! It is the only thing we have left of the idea of old Lineage 2.

I'm guessing the purpose wasn't trying to make a new lore friendly race, it was just trying to make people buy NCCoin to try rushing characters made with this new race to level 99 as fast as possible.

If this "new race" is actually the Arteias why don't they have wings? And don't try coming up with some BS reason. Just admit that they can't be the Arteias, that they have NO basis in L2 lore and that they are only here to make you money and then get rid of them.

The problem with L2 continues to be its gameplay which is becoming ever more outdated as time goes on. Especially for me the biggest problem is the excessive hp on mobs, excessive mob damage on my Feoh, huge discrepancy between adena drops from mobs and the cost of so much as wiping my nose, excessive time to gain a level when the only levels that matter are 97-99, lack of drops, lack of 100% crafting recipies, lack of basically everything, existance of mp, lack of adequate self healing skills on any class that isn't an Aeore (the Iss healing isn't adequate because we still have mp but once they get rid of mp it will be adequate), and the inability to do anything at 91+ without tracking down an Iss to get buffs. Plus the fact that player skills can do too much damage to other players.

I could go on and on and on, but I think that these are the real problems you have.

But this game is over 9 years old, perhaps it is time to put it out to pasture.

THIS.

The Kamaels are the Arteias, all the breadcrumbs are there.
Maybe they will implement a skill that will allow these characters to have wings and fly with. They did something similar in Aion where after the characters did their class change they were able to fly.

Oh you mean like giving them a skill called "Final Form" that allows them to return to their original winged form?

NC has never done that in Lineage 2 before (looking at the Kamael who are the real Arteias).

This new race is a complete betrayal to your fans of Lineage 2.
The playable race is composed by half-breed Ertheias (that's why they don't have wings). The pureblood Ertheias have winged ears and ankles.

And no, sorry, the Kamaels aren't the real Ertheias, the devs dictated that the Ertheias are a completely different race.

This is a retcon on top of a retcon.

At least the first retcon actually made a lot of sense and had enough well considered and well written story to fill in the holes left in the original L2 lore as to what happened to the Ertheias and where the Kamael came from.

It is well established in the Kamael quests being applied onto the original L2 lore that the Kamaels are transformed Ertheias. And logically then all the Ertheias were either transformed, died in captivity, or died during experimentation which is why there is absolutely no trace of the original Ertheias ANYWHERE on Aden or Elmore other than Kamael island.

Is this new race going to come from another hidden and secret island? Just how many of those can the developers keep pulling out of their butt before we say enough is enough. And if they are a half breed, that just makes there total absence up to this point even more inexscuseable. They didn't exist, were never intended to exist and should not now be created as they have ZERO basis in L2 lore. And to be quite frank I hate the idea of a half breed race because that begins to border on bestality.

I wouldn't be surprised if this new race is the product of someone who worked on the travesty that is Ultima 9.

And the design of a race with winged ears and ankles is just stupid looking and would be completely nonfunctional. It is clear that such a design decision isn't to make a race look aesthetically pleasing, plausible or even remotely realistic but to give in to the fetish of some graphics designer with no taste whatsoever. I guess that's just something you expect to come out of Asia. I guess that means their homeland will be Fantasy Isle, another abomination of horrible design that is completely out of place.

Pardon my ignorance but, what quests mention anything about the Kamaels being transformed Ertheias? I don't recall any of them mentiong anything about the Kameal being transformed Erthias.

In the Arteia lore and in the third class transfer quest dialog for Kamael classes especially Justicator/Judicator. I also remember some quests on the Isle of Souls before it was destroyed and in the other class change quests as well but my memory for those is really hazy.

While it doesn't explicity spell anything out for you, the bread crumb trail that is left is sufficient to allow you to find the ginger bread house at the end.

The Kamael were created using magi technology once the giants learned how to transform and manipulate living bodies (genetic manipulation and soul manipulation). You are specifically told that the Kamaels were created using Mimir's Elixir, or that they are Mimir's elixir. Now this doesn't really make any sense until you realize that Mimir's Elixir has been used in other quests to represent change and transformation, to represent a complete change of nature (as in allowing a dwarf who can't use magic to suddenly use magic by transforming her soul and body). Thus the Kamael's were created by means of manipulating the body and soul of another already living and present race.

We also know from the 2nd class Soulhound quest (now removed), that the one winged form is a sealed form and not a natural form with the two winged form being the Kamael's natural form.

We are also told explicitly that original unmanipulated Kamaels used to be a free race during the time of the giants, that the Giants were unable to control them until they manipulated the nature of the Kamael, manipulating them from a being that was free and wild to a nature that sought dominance and control.

The Arteias were the only race that the Giants weren't able to control. How convenient that the original Kamaels also just happened to be a race that the Giants couldn't control. And if the Arteias were the only race the Giants couldn't control and the original Kamael were a race that the Giants couldn't control, then the original Kamael had to be Arteias!!!!

Which also means that this new race is a perverse combination of Kamael and human stock which actually is partly possible because there were Kamaels on the main land long before the Kamael's island reappeared but nobody knew about them as they had to keep their presence hidden in order to avoid being detected by Einhasad and her angelic police force. I guess it makes sense that lacking any of their kind it was inevitable they'd fall in and out of love with whomever was available. And of course due to the huge social stigma that would have been present in their society and considering how long they had been away from home it only makes sense that those Kamael didn't tell any of their kind about their children that were born to other species.

The class change quests that were removed were actually a huge source of lore that is now missing from the game, unfortunately.

I just love Kamaels and I try to learn everything about them that is in the game! This is no small task considering most of that lore has been axed, never to see again outside of a private server. I did have screenshots of all this, but I had a complete hard drive failure before I could move the pictures top a new install and while I did create a backup of my screenshots I am not sure where I put the dvds with the backup L2 screenshots. Maybe I will find them or maybe they got lost in between the shuffle of constantly changing apartments.

Maybe now I can have my title changed to "Kamael Lore Master"?
Bread crumb trails can be misleading (google "Hersh Nusra" ;) ). Here is a pure-blooded Spikenard Ertheia in close-up:
http://boards.rochand.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=1136&start=250#p24343
(when you click on the picture, it unfolds)

As you can see, they are, with the canards on their ankles, built like a Eurofighter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurofighter_Typhoon), whereas the Kamael are the classic angel model with wings at their shoulders. Ertheia and Kamael are as far apart as pigs and horses. You have been misled by the bit about the "winged race" in the original lore. But that has been rewritten.

Rule 1:
NCsoft is always right.

Rule 2:
When NCsoft is not right, rule 1 applies.

:D
What I am having a hard time understanding is..

Ok so Lineage 2 for god sake, especially in this time, and especially in the NCWest Based population is mostly concentrated on end-game lvl 99 content. LET ALONE even Lvl 95 (Seraph) is pretty much old news.

So. with the new race put into gameplay..
They expect us to what? bot it up to 99 real quick and just mix in with the rest of the people?

lol...

and then what? bot that dual class to 99 too "real quick" right?

I mean yea there are those casual environmental passive players who just like to enjoy the atmosphere of a totally new race and class but...

I can only understand that a new race would only be truly viable with a new server. Having that said, with the lack of population and balance ALREADY in the preexisting servers, can there be such explanation or solution for this game.
I might not read all the stuff about the Artheias, but I see that it will be female only on both classes... was such feature also told in the Lore?

Anyway, Im glad they introducing this... it might bring back my sister and cousin to play just for the beauty of the toon and the description of the classes. It is good having some close ppl to enjoy the game :)
The lore has been heavily rewritten. The playable characters on both classes are female Half-Ertheias, but the developers have hinted that more classes might be coming in the future ("we are planning to introduce at first only two classes"):
http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=262638

Apart from that, there are male Spikenard Ertheia NPCs. Here for example Head Priest Kerenios:

And of course Benir Dekan, the Talisman man (http://boards.rochand.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=1174&start=30#p24315) :D
Man, Ive just created the account @ Korea and started downloading the client... it is a challenge the Korean, but my curiosity is bigger! Time to shop some dictionary and have windows with alternate keyboard for korean to some research. Im crazy...
In the Arteia lore and in the third class transfer quest dialog for Kamael classes especially Justicator/Judicator. I also remember some quests on the Isle of Souls before it was destroyed and in the other class change quests as well but my memory for those is really hazy.

I looked up the older Kamael quests and read the dialogue from the NPCs, there was no mention of Ertheias anywhere.

I feel as though NCsoft is pulling all the strings to bring in fresh blood to the game.

New Race? Cute and adorable as faaaaaackkkk!!!! Tough with flashy skills and awesome supportive magic?

Sounds like a plot to bring the female audience into the game, specifically the Japanese and the Koreans.

That's what I believe as well, and I must admit they're kinda successful with this strategy, I already can't wait to play an Ertheia!
I already couldn't wait to play an Ertheia, now I'm even more hyped.

This game needs more ladies to help run the show! :D

Me too unfortunately. I feel sorry for poor Linnda. When this update comes out I'll reroll Ertheia for a little while...

I FEEL LIKE A BAD GIRL. I IMAGINE MY MAIN SITTING AND CRYING IN A CORNER WHEN THIS UPDATE COMES OUT.
As long as your main knows you still love her all will be fine.

And you don't have to strictly just play one character, you can always bounce around between the two.

I have one main and like 6 alts.
I have one main and like 6 alts.

Let's see, I have one main and one "main alt" on the same account, both are the same level (actually the alt atm is a few %% ahead of the main); also I have a boxed buffer (quickly catching up to mains; and its dual is also 95+) and two alts that I use to farm Oly quests but don't exp anymore.

Besides that, I have 3 more awakened toons that I leveled just for the fun of trying out different classes and stopped at 86; 6 non-awakened academy toons in the level range between 52 and 80 (leveling them little by little when I have the time; one toon at a time); 4 newly created lvl 1 toons waiting for their turn, and of course I will have to level at least two ertheias. :o

Aconyte, do you have an emotional connection with your character? Enough that will make you cry when you don't play her in favor of another character you adore?

This is the dilemma I'm faced with. xD
I can understand your dilemma. I use to main a summoner back in Naia, then I eventually moved on over to Bartz and switched to playing a Kamael.

I don't play my summoner as much like I use to but, I still love her. <3

I haven't touched my Spellsinger since the Kamael update and I only use her now as cubic/enchant/life stone storage. I feel bad for my elf, she was so adorable...then the Kamaels with fencing and dark magicks just blew me away. >w<
I know what you mean. When I started playing with my Doombringer, not only is he fun to play with, he is also quite fun to -ahem- admire.

DM and SH were my favorite classes at release. Jesus with a healer they could trio like 3 parties with that permastun on Rush Impact, perma para from Lightning Shock and Lightning Barrier, buffsteal, and disarm. So much overpoweredness in just 2 characters.

Kamaels are quite the formidable opponents once you get a good team going, especially if they know how play their character.

It wasn't a promise, just a prediction.
How long will it take to see full bot trains of new race going around Aden? probably 10 sec after release
seeing how they sux in pvp I doubt that except ofc for the wanna bee hero as some ppl will do anything for the glow

:)

I haven't and still wouldn't take the Koreans opinion worth a grain of salt as the mindset of prophet being the godsend of support classes is only a small but validated enough proof of their opinions on what is good and what isn't good to be null.

To anyone who still haven't read up on the class yet, or seen any youtube videos, or don't even know that a new race is even coming. Here's the basically gist of the two new Arteia/Ertheia races.

The Fighter class uses fist weapons, is fast, evasive and uses a combination of high powered skills and fast and powerful attacks in-between skill usage. Between stuns, target cancels, knockdowns and dodging they are very hard to hit. Damage wise... well on skills they hit about as hard as archers, their normal attacks can escalate far beyond that though. They rock at 1v1s and in mass pvp they're good at doing what tyrr warriors should have been good at doing, stopping people from moving and dealing moderately heavy damage and with their evasiveness they can handle being in the middle of a warzone without worry of being quickly bursted down or shredded by AOEs. They have good resistance vs aggression and pulling so tanks aren't much of an issue. PvE wise, they are good for raiding because of their high DPS. Their AOE capability is poor and although their DPS is high, on normal mobs there's just nothing like half-killing. Overall a mix between the straight forward mixed burst and sustained DPS, life sustaining and fist using of the tyrr Grand Khavatari and the evasiveness of a non fortune seeker othell rogue with better controlling ability than both.

The mage class uses magic blunt weapons, mostly retributors, and are close ranged magicians that wear robes... yeah that already sounds like a terrible idea. So PvE wise they are terrible they deal high damage but not as much as most physical DDs and they are exposed to dying a lot especially off mobs that have strong AOES. Speaking of AOEs... your only AOE experience will be small trains at seal of shilen and NOTHING else. PvP wise you have some odd ways of stopping people from moving but basically stun, fear and knockdown, all of which are lackluster and offer you very little time to deal damage. Your general playstyle will be to use one of these skills and follow up with your highest damage skills then hiding and waiting to do the same. Its ok 1v1. In mass pvp you'll be doing the exact same thing, jumping on people and bursting them down and then hiding and moving on to the next target. It is what the othell rogue should have been but unfortunately it wears robes and relies on enchanting mage weapons and pants to be effective. Overall a mix between the burst damage, lack of AOE, minor CC ability, speed and sneakiness of an othell rogue and the magic use and squishiness of a feoh wizard.

The classes were initially described by NCkr to be good soloers, excel and 1v1s and supportive in party pvp which is... kinda true and kinda not true.
The fighter is good at soloing, good at 1v1s and does offer good CC support in mass pvp. Its very good for party pvp.
The mage is good at soloing anything that tickles, ok at 1v1s but mostly annoying as well as being the most obnoxious olympiad class only countered by archers and has very little support ability but it has it regardless. Its good for ganking and inducing rage out of kids in olympiad.

Both classes are very, very difficult to play well because both classes require perfect precision timing and any screw ups will result in taking massive damage or just dying right there, so yes expect to see a few Goddesses and a truckload of noobs. I expect the first 3-4 heroes to be beyond awful at the class.
Looks good enough to me, ok dmg with closecombat nukes with the ability to go in hide almost constantly.

I really liked the old Kamael closecombat wizard, I'm glad they are bringing it back.

It's ******ed enough that an Archer has hide skill.

But oh well, who the **** cares about this game full of bots and scripts.

Technically even a 5 year old kid can hide from someone. Have you ever played hide and seek?:)
I never quite understood how come only certain classes in games (Rogues in WOW, daggers in Lineage etc) have the hide ability. If you go behind a rock, boom you are hidden.
You can extend this to basically anything. Who says that if I am a mage damage dealer I cannot do a fire spell while at the same time wearing Sauron's armor? In fact that would be encouraged for an increased amount of bada.s.s.ery. This is the part where I begin praising the game mechanic of the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online (which is basically the same thing that was in the previous Elder Scrolls games).
Games should be all about doing whatever you want with everything that is available to any player, aka CUSTOMIZATION :) MMO's trash the concept of customization and mask this by giving you customization options like: you can put a hair accessory on your character

We are talking about a skill.

And if L2 would be FULLY CUSTOM, it would be so bad of a game that you can't even imagine, obviously. You can have god powers.

Now rethink.

Think it's nice concept of a elusive mage class.

Btw anyone that know of a nice pvp/pve vids of the melee class? can only find some small skill testing vids.

:)

Yidao, as much as i admire ur effors to aid in a time of need, in this case, it's diferent, koreans know absolutely nothing about class balance and only play for looks.

In a time where nukers were squishy and weak, they were still widely played in korea(and most favoured), while it was an abandoned class on other territories. (tauti~glory days)
You are absolutely right about Koreans playing for looks. Check the fashion discussions on the NCKorea Screenshot Forum:
http://lineage2.plaync.com/board/image/view?articleId=574708&page=4
:D

As for the classes themselves, the analysis by Yamino (KnightOfDarkness on Rochand two posts under the one I have linked) is definitely more in-depth than what the Korean players write in their Ranker and Shear forums. But everybody who has played an Ertheia says that they are very, very difficult to play well (and keep in mind, Yamino is a Summoner who is accustomed to playing a challenging class). They are definitely not something I would recommend in one of those "What is the best class?" threads new players like to start.

Nevertheless I myself will make a Gravity Ranker, just to have an Alchemist ready (even if that looks like a huge adena sink), and to recycle my Khavatari's old fist weapons :p

@Leonidar:
Here is a PvE video of the melee class:

Explanation:
http://lineage2.plaync.com/board/class/view?articleId=567176&aliasName=90
hehe 3 things, Do they use the same firsts as Tyrrs or they have some special fist weapons?
Alchemy is Ertheia-exclusive ability and yes, the fist weapons used by Gravity Rankers are the same as the Khavatari's.

Check the four most recent videos. Its not a completely accurate representation of the class since it will be stronger than what is shown here due to several skills underperforming due to GM implemented nerfs and 1 of the skills simply not working at all, but the playstyle is no different from what you will see on live.

Of course I probably miss-spelled the class name but to be honest all I know that it is Gravity "something" ranker, renker, lenker, etc.

Here is another PvE video of one in hellbound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l7Nl-ZgIGs

IS that how the radar will look like?
They can't update the engine... they can make a new game on the unreal 4 engine though.
They can't update the engine... they can make a new game on the unreal 4 engine though.

Making a new L2 on a new and better engine is in fact an update. And if that means starting from 0.

They got the money, bots pay really well.
That's not updating that's making a new game.

Diablo 2 -> Diablo 3 is not an update, its making a new game. Diablo 3 -> Diablo 3 Reaper of souls is an update or in other terms, an expansion.

And going from Lineage 2 on one engine to Lineage 2 on another engine is not an update, its starting over or an otherwords remastering to which they will never do because its not profitable... at all.

Also bots do not pay well, sure the owners may buy nc-coin here and there but most payments over this game is between players not between players and NCsoft.

Diablo 2 has a totally different story then Diablo 3 so it is a new game.
Metal gear solid ps1 and Metal gear solid: twin snakes GC is not a different game, same story better graphics.

So updating L2's game engine and keeping story and a bit of gameplay the same. Is same **** now stop talking ********.

It's not a new game if you just make it more playable. It's like saying Oh wow I changed my intake valve on my GTO, is a ******* new car yo.

Alright its time for you to take a break.
1 - The'll never "change" L2 engine because it is the same as creating a whole game from 0, it is a matter of USD 30KK-50KK investiment and 5+ years of development. Currently L2 is the least popular game of all NC and so, the team that works in L2 was decreased along with the budget, with a small team and low budget, they can barely make updates, not to mention re-creating a hole game from 0.

2 - The problem of L2 is not the graphics-engine, but all the rest: gameplay, balance, economy, drops, pvp... game just got utterly boring... Because Lineage 1 has prehistoric graphics and yet is the most successful game from NCSoft. In 2013 L1 made 287 billion KRW(korean currency), a growth of 40% compared to 2012(205 bi KRW):

http://imageshack.com/a/img593/3328/1zef.png

3 - Currently, if you look what NC is looking for, they are heavily hiring people for 4 games:

https://recruit.ncsoft.net/korean/careers/adoptionsection.aspx

- Lineage Eternal
- Blade & Soul
- A third person shooter(Project E) - Unreal Engine 4 based
- A first person shooter - Unreal Engine 4 based

The fact that you don't realize that MGS is a linear game with a definitive end makes your argument invalid. The main difference between regular games and MMO's is that there is no end to MMO's and that they keep rolling. Making a remake for console/computer games such as MGS and CoD is much more feasible than a huge game like L2 and GW due to easier money/time constraints (single story that has a definitive end/a combat system with a certain direction) as well as sheer popularity of said titles compared to marginalized games like L2.

In short, you would have to retroactively apply the new engine/gameplay updates to every, single aspect and detail of the game, which for a 10 year MMO, is tedious, time consuming, and not worth the effort from a business standpoint.

L2 imo was made simply as a pretty game, the aesthetics were beautiful and graphics were amazing when it was first released back in 2004 with no real emphasis on structured PvP other than castles. The whole idea of open world was the selling point of the game.

Now because games have evolved and high end graphic games are a dime a dozen L2 has fallen into the dust and now isn't worth any bit of salt since, like you pointed out, everything in game is pretty much broken and the game from a logistical sense is better off dying.

Why we play? Cause we can. Call it waste of time, but you're not going to change the game with flaming on the board of an outsourced company to the customers of said company. If you want to changes you want in game, get super rich, buy all L2 stocks, then pay NCKorea to make the changes you want. Also learning Korean might help there in your endeavours.

I also suggest you do some traveling outside of Vietnam. It might give you some perspective on how the world works.
2 - The problem of L2 is not the graphics-engine,

I dont think ppl complain about graphics...it's about the same old bugs that come with the current engine that will never ever be fixed. Mainly geodata and akward skills that just dont work in the game since the engine doesnt suport those very well (funny tho, an emulation has proven to adress some issues).

He's also totally overlooking the fact that ps1 and GC are two totally different system's, with GC coming out a lot later then ps1 so of course there was a upgrade in graphic's.

Your a little off on L2 though, the biggest emphasis was alway's on the open world PvP with anyone at anytime aspect of the game.

Back to the point of the whole thread though, you guy's are lucky the designer's are finally getting off their butt's and putting in a race that was supposed to be introduced way back in 2007-2008, although they are messing up the lore a little with the spelling. The org race name was Arteia. They are finally talking about adding in the conquest system all these year's later as well.

Maybe you'll all get lucky and see them unlock the gates in FG and the lands behind them, implement airship battles and unleash the last four dragon's before NC NA is shut down. I never understood why they never did any of these earlier just because they lost the org design team. The work was already 85% done, I guess the ****'s they brought in couldn't handle that last 15%.

Ok. If you guys think just a better gameplay, but the story is the same, and that's a meaning of a new game. Well I guess live in that world. That would be called a remake. But hey I'm from vietnam, so ching chong mutha***ers.

Interestingly enough they are still called Arteia/아르테*********아 in Korea:
http://lineage2.power.plaync.com/wiki/%EC%95%84%EB%A5%B4%ED%85%8C%EC%9D%B4%EC%95%84

They have been renamed only in the English version.
It could be the same reasoning as to why the update Epeisodion was renamed to Valiance for the sheer fact that the players here are perceived to be too ignorant to not only not know what it means but how to pronounce it. And I assume pronunciation is the same deal here with the renaming of the Arteia to Ertheia.

I would say that's profound but with how the discussions on these forums go especially between certain people who probably spend more time arguing with people over the forums over nothing rather than just play the game, I can't honestly say that there's no good reason behind it. But that's all an assumption, the real reason could be that the team left working on this game probably mistranslated it and are just rolling with it now that they made it public to not further embarrass themselves. Who knows.

The more important thing is getting a release date as before it was to be released on the tenth anniversary which would be assuming the end of April, but it may be delayed a little, or a lot. I'm pretty sure if it were definitely coming on the tenth anniversary there would had been a grand announcement with the events leading up to it like there was for Lindvior.
Ok. If you guys think just a better gameplay, but the story is the same, and that's a meaning of a new game. Well I guess live in that world. That would be called a remake. But hey I'm from vietnam, so ching chong mutha***ers.

Not a new game, a remade game. I agreed with your point, but I was saying that remaking a game like MGS vs L2 are two completely different things. Remaking MGS is going to yield a lot of business. Upgrading a 10 year old game...retroactively applying new engine, graphics, and physics to a pretty much dead game is pointless, wouldn't you agree w1Soi?

I'm from Japan, but I travel. Currently in NYC.

Upgrading the engine would involved wiping the game content and starting from scratch, a.k.a. starting a new game, new database, new engine but that takes too much effort and money whereas starting lineage 3 even would be better since you'll be pulling in a new audience and some of the old audience, including the people who say they're going to quit the p2w bot land every week.

Yes, remaking a game is the same as making a new game from 0. They simple have no plans in remaking L2 or any other game(Lineage Eternal is a new chapter in Lineage series, 200 years after Lineage 1, it is not a L1 remake as some people think).

Regarding the so called "Lineage 3", don't expect another Lineage after Eternal before 5 -10 years counting from LE launch(from L1 to L2 it took 5 years, from L2 to LE it is over 10 years already).

NCSoft have already invested over USD 60 million in Lineage Eternal since the project started, in 2008. So they have no plans to launch 2 games of the same franchise in a short period of time because they would compete with each other. They'll let LE alone for 5-10 years at least(mainly depending on the success of LE, it it is as successful as L1, it will take over 5 years easily). Just look at the jobs page of NC, the don't even have another Lineage project in mind now.
The top one being seraph robes and the bottom being dark eternal robes

Not a new game, a remade game. I agreed with your point, but I was saying that remaking a game like MGS vs L2 are two completely different things. Remaking MGS is going to yield a lot of business. Upgrading a 10 year old game...retroactively applying new engine, graphics, and physics to a pretty much dead game is pointless, wouldn't you agree w1Soi?

I'm from Japan, but I travel. Currently in NYC.

MGS was remade 2004, the original one was 1998)

I don't see a problem remaking L2, but I guess adding makeup to this broken engine is the way to go.

You can't even mass pvp with a PC worth 2K€ and not lag)
