Update! Monthly Forum Previews

Hello all,

As many of you have noticed and called out, we obviously haven't posted a preview of events, promotions, changes, and updates planned for Lineage II for the month of October. Neutron replied to the September Preview thread (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?p=3571155#post3571155) to provide a brief explanation and apology for the delay, but under the circumstances this is a good opportunity for us to share with all of you an internal discussion we’ve been having recently about how these previews are generated and what purpose they’re intended to serve. First, let’s get some background on these posts.

Typically released just prior to the start of each month, these previews have become a staple of relatively short-hand insight into our production calendar for the coming month, offering the community a quick glimpse at relevant items on the agenda to help you plan accordingly as much as we can. The majority of the info for these previews is gathered and compiled by Lineage II Producer, Neutron (http://boards.lineage2.com/search.php?searchid=6669424); and after a quick exchange between the two of us to refine the format and wording, he presents the info in a fresh News & Announcements forum thread just as we’re heading into a new month.

In his reply on October 5, Neutron stated that the issue this month is that many of the items we’d traditionally lay out in the monthly preview are still in flux until the Dev Team returns from a holiday break. However, this situation highlights an ongoing issue we've experienced while creating these previews. Ultimately, changes to the game are determined by the developers. Even in cases where we’ve determined a schedule of events and promotions, we still have to hash out the details with HQ—such as item availability and costs, bonus server settings, and so on—before we can effectively inform the community. Oftentimes details aren’t completely finalized until the point at which the HQ Dev Team needs to deliver an updated game build to us for QA testing, usually within a week of those updates hitting live servers.

In recent months we’ve felt that the preview posts we’ve presented to the community lacked some key details, or supplied info that ended up being inaccurate by the time particular updates actually went live. In some cases they weren’t posted by the first of the month either. That being said, we know that a lot of players have come to expect to receive these forum previews every month, and we still see the value in sharing them.

What we want to change going forward is the timing of when these previews are released, in order to increase their effectiveness. Each month we run at least one major event or store promotion, not including other types of changes or updates made to the game. With that in mind, we’re going to start releasing monthly previews in the days leading up to the start of major events or promotions, to supply you with deeper insights into those updates—the Hungry Horse IV forum post (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=293801) that we released five days prior to the event provides an example of the type of info that could be included in our recurring previews.

This means that we’ll no longer be aiming to align these previews with the transition between months, but we anticipate that we’ll be releasing them at roughly the same rate.

Given that player expectations have been set for quite a while now on receiving a preview post at the beginning of each month, we understand that there will be an adjustment period to the altered cadence we're proposing. Just know that the goal for us in this endeavor is to deliver game content previews to you at the same relative frequency as we have been for some time now, while also ensuring that we’re doing a better job of supplying you with info that's more detailed and accurate—and useful!

Under this slightly revised plan, you can expect to see a new preview arrive in the coming days to detail the next major event on the schedule. Thank you for bearing with us while we've been working out this updated preview strategy. We sincerely hope you find it to be a step in the right direction—stay tuned!

Yay! This is the kind of communication we like to see (or at least it's what I like to see). People like me have monkey brains and get too latched onto prior forum-post policies like it's dogma. Of course this is all dynamic and there will be unforeseen changes, and all we need is regular reassurance that we haven't been forgotten. I know it's petty of me to whine all the time, but we're just looking for dialogue in a timely fashion.

Thanks for being upfront with us.
Thanks for finally communicating with us. I'd hardly use the last event as an example, though. You said carrot collection would be unchanged. You never mentioned that the carrot drop rate would be nerfed so that it would take an average of 1,000 mobs killed to obtain the 40 carrots for one, single, pouch. Let's hope you provide more accurate information in the future.
Thanks.
Hello, with this I consider that they have opened constructive disbelievers and have listened to the concern of all the people for the l2, it is good to know that and hope that they can give a better handling and dynamism to the game to generate a balance, an example of inequality is that the jewells like (topas-ruby etc) can be obtained with adena and here for more that is donated you will never be able to have lvl 5 or lvl 6, I hope you can really fix that and many more things so that the whole community of l2 grow, thanks for the information and efforts to improve Lineage 2

Exactly, I've learned here that if I set my standards at the bare minimum, NC never disappoints me.

Well, maxxed expectations in this case are just leading to giant disappointments, aren't they? :D
+1, the most important now is: when is the big update (salvation), and when is too red libra event, for change dual class, bcs tank go sux in next chronic.Don't really care about the monthly previews what I wanna know is when the next update will be. tl;dr

won't they publish this previews anymore?
Tanks seems to become more tankish with Salvation. Why this is bad I am curious?

It can be bad for the people which used to have and play offensive tank builds.

Honestly, I do like when a tank can do good damage, but I am OK and with being just a tank.

@conguero GJ with this one, this is the type of information we expect, whether is bad or good, we'd rather have some clear expectation for our communication than plain silence.

As requested in the September preview thread and now here, if we're in to have a very dull october, (nothing has been announced yet and it's already mid month), that's fine, just please consider extending the weekend XP rates for the remainder of the month, it's only 2 more weekends than what was originally planned so it's not that much or put these settings in the next event if there is to be one this month.

Thanks

I don't understand what else you guys want for a preview. The carrot event is on until October 18th. Then usually there is a 1 week break on events so why not just expect a preview for near November? What more do you want from October??

This is easy, you don't need the update, just compare your L2 store donations to whoever you think your going to be "better" than. This will save you the ever out of reach step of having to actually take Aden.

Regardless, your sophomoric need to be recognized for you donations by the community probably belongs in a different thread like "Chronos". We are discussing more macro level topics, pertaining to L2 and the community/dev team involvement as a whole here.
just give us at least a better idea as to when we can expect Salvation (Gathering of World Heroes) update seeing how the other NC Territories have already planned release dates..
+1 to Draecke
just give us at least a better idea as to when we can expect Salvation (Gathering of World Heroes) update seeing how the other NC Territories have already planned release dates..
We're actively in the process of working that out with the Dev Team and will announce release plans as soon as possible once they're finalized.

Currently we're looking to lock down a delivery date on the game build after additional localization is completed so that we can determine when our QA testing phase will occur. The holiday season is now rapidly approaching for us and we'd prefer to minimize its potential interference with our schedule.
Conguero its good to hear it, however NCSoft should improve rapidly delay of updates between Korea and NCWEST territories. Is unaccetable to be late for 2 years in one online game. This is very bad approach of company to customers. No one from big world succes companies with several good and well live online games have such terrible update delay. 3 months is unaccetable not 2 years. Push and tell your Korean partners and supervisors to open eyes and make some check on online game market.
Actually we're 5 to 7 month behind Korea.

Who told you 2 years ?
Korean Dev team is busy dealing with their crisis with the recent update.
As I know, all of the Korean Lineage2 quests got RESET with their update and that includes the entire EXALTED QUEST chains LvL 1,2,3,4,5!

I don't mind the delay...I just hope the new update doesn't crash the server and just work without any error.

Keep in mind, the thanksgiving weekend in Korea is the longest weekend in Korea, as well as the new year's, that they get to take a long break from work and travel to the countryside to see their parents, so it might be awhile before the Dev team comes back to their work to deal with the situations.
i spoke in general and as example i use long term. Yes Salvation is live from May 2017 BUT we wait longer time for more other changes included in previos little or big updates in Korea.
The holiday season is now rapidly approaching for us and we'd prefer to minimize its potential interference with our schedule.

So uh, that means Jan 2018?
who care?
if update will be in this year or in next year
for sure not NC West
they just want only our money
all other region got filles around 2 months ago
NC japan will get new update in next week(18.10.2017)
probably EU/RU will implement this update in around 1 month.
and we will get filles in around 1 month..
translation+bug test= next two month or more so
I think, we will get this update in late January or February
I hope, that I will wrong,
well like always
NCWest's "soon" mean 3+ months
Red libra here and now..and when the next patch comes..again!
Can't speak for others, but I appreciate advance warning of events that I like for budgetary reasons. I try to stick within a budget, especially as the holidays are approaching, so that I don't waste all of my funds on Horse, for example, which I don't care about that much, only to have an event that I do like drop in my lap with less than a week's warning. If Horse is the only event that we were to get for the rest of the year, I wouldn't mind splurging. But if I know that abundance or some type of hero coin event is on the horizon, well screw Hungry Horse. I wouldn't waste any of my budget on that event. The more we know, the better we can assess our spend and make (good) events more profitable for you.

For some people, i see there are no limits. no matter how much they will tell you still won't be enough. We have a monthly preview and this is something NCwest not obliged to do.
Now people will start asking for year preview just to please some people and make market manipulation more comfortable )). Where in the world you can possibly as for such things to happen ? ). Just be happy they do it at all.
Compensation event this wednesday 18 so thank you
It would be great to have 2 tipe of events . I st tipe free for all event with will have items or stats ( xp drop items +100-200% ) for free on first month ( this event will be free no na coins need to be spended . And every second month the pay event with will include items that can be bought only with nc coins .

Any chance if you could check with the team if it's possible to include the Improved R99 Armors option to this update ? aka to make a PVE set also PVP and visa versa ? this feature exist in NC Japan/Taiwan/China so it would be nice if we could get it as well imo
Can we get a 30 day XP Rune III promotion for October?

I bought only one of the August runes thinking it would be a monthly thing. :(
red libra event+1 tomorrowRed libra here and now..and when the next patch comes..again!
red libra event+1 tomorrow

no, thx
How many red libra do you want? One per month?

This is something that shouldn't even exist.
This will impact the market that waits for monthly previews to sell and buy stuff. Have you considered that?
Eureka !
That's take too long, but finally, You guys make a step forward in communication with a players.
I really hope, that would be the start of new age in relationship GM <=> Player
tnx.

Bhahahahahaha, Whats up? Did you upset DevTeam and they scwr you with no preview for these events?
Just Bhahahahahhaha...I hope for the better but we receive the worst :).

Anyway, I like that fishing event...Gz for that.
Well,
From now all events, updates will SUUUPRICE !!
well they are scary to post anything, bacuse Horse event got soo amazing feedback ^^
At least we know that we will not get update in this month, bacuse of heine fishing xd
instead geting update in late fall we will get in late spring xd
Who care?xD nc taiwan and nc japan got update xd
we will be last xD
NCWest- the best team ever xD
Wonderfull fishing event out of the blue.....
I think nothing changed at all
We can only hope you not fool to many player with it to buy Ncoins now
to hit lvl 105.
becouse i guess soon you will let us know or maybe not we will see
that we get major update in 4 weeks and lvl 105 will be a peace of cake.

only worth full thing to buy in NCstore are droprate runes and enchant items

Have fun everyone and stop spend ncoins on "" event's ""
well,
i think, that we will have freya event after fishing one xd
from 15/11 to 13/12
after, they will tell use, that they can but they will not make update before christmas, becuse a lot of ppl will be on holydays and new year celebration,
so we can expect new update in january/february around 4 month later than on nc taiwan/japan
we can just guessing, coz like always no info,
they make this topic to just avoid QQ on forum, bacause they didn't put preview,
ofc survey is nice thing, but
implement heine fishing event(so short after fish drama) with old rod price is kinda stupid
u promised us, that u will write sth on forum before events,
an atm we didnt get any topic on forum...
u said that u wanna make more player friendly communication, but
instead inform us stop writing at all
you are breaking ur promises over an over
tell us a true about situation,
not just dev say this devs do this, etc
no info about update,
no Neutron/Conquero activity
surprise events,
no lab test
no info about agathions
what are u doing guys/ladies?
really i miss juji, maybe he wasn't perfect, but at all try to reply in hot topics and solve problems asap
it isn't healthy for ur player base,
ncwest will be soon the worst MMO distributor.
but for what im writing it..
in ncwest eyes i should shut up, and give them a money
cheers
The Alien Invasion event is overdue, could be that one.
Is strange though that theres no end date published for the end of the suprise fishing event ?!?!?

actually i agree with this idea :) or if not 1 time a year then 2 times most.

Half pl accounts who shout red libra in forums has like 10 messages all with red libra on them and probably belong to same person :D

Half pl accounts who shout red libra in forums has like 10 messages all with red libra on them and probably belong to same person :DActually there are quite a few people that I play with that want Red Libra specifically when the new update is released. With major changes to multiple classes many of them want to swap their duals to or away from these classes, myself included. I don't know very many people in-game so if most of the ones I know want it I think it's safe to assume many others do as well. I feel Red Libra is a great event to pair with the release of any new update.
Omaigod Just add Libra's Npc's permanent locked in some tower accessible with some sort of quest and charge NCoin store item for dualclass or weapon changes. end of story with those requests. period.

Enough with that useless Red Libra, it's a total trash of an event. Hell even another run off the last hungry horse is better.

+1 to Red Libra ONCE A YEAR.
So next one around May 2018.

Just because you don't want to change class, doesn't mean others don't.

Red Libra is a great event which actually allows people to experience more of the game. It's also one of the few event which benefits people who don't spend a lot of money on the game.

Quit your crying.

+1 best idea ever. Red libra permanent 100%omaigod just add libra's npc's permanent locked in some tower accessible with some sort of quest and charge ncoin store item for dualclass or weapon changes. End of story with those requests. Period.
The problem is simple. Red libra contains two functions that ought to be available in the game at all times: Changing the class of a dual and changing one weapon for another. Unfortunately, NCSoft, in its wisdom, has seen fit to tie those two things to a bunch of other stuff and only make it available in a periodic event. Thus, for people to get the two functions that should be available all the time they must wait for an event that messes up other people, for example, by ruining the prices of certain items that are available for relatively low prices during that event.

People who want red libra for those two functions should be understanding toward those whom it negatively impacts. And those who would be negatively impacted should be sensitive to the fact that there is no other way for other folks to get those two functions. Oh, and please don't suggest re-rolling. Since so many items are not transferrable (especially jewels) re-rolling is often not a practical option.
So thanks, I guess, for the preview concerning previews. Is it helpful? Not really. Still no answers to myriad other questions being posted in the forums by players.

Is the demand for Red Libra becoming tiresome to everyone else? It is to me. The first Red Libra we could take and fulfill quests and win a little additional adena. Second Red Libra, no adena reward for completing quests. Third Red Libra, seriously, we had to pay adena to buy the quests. What is good in this?

To go from a broken Hungry Horse event straight into a fishing event is back-to-back NCcoin events with no actual in-game opportunity to win benefits without spending real money. NCSoft's greed continues to be glaringly obvious and the L2 lemmings continue to fall for it.

So yeah, I guess, thanks for the preview about previews. Although I'm sure most of us would appreciate real answers to real questions. Perhaps while NCSoft is revamping their preview processes they could also upgrade their customer service and see about fixing some real issues that individuals are having in the game.

A preview about previews... /not impressed.

You serious right... It words 100% of the time just because it doesn't stun doesn't mean you don't do 100% damage... Everytime you use it you activate counter critical which makes your stabs 100% stronger (AKA x2 damage). Be more observant...

Yours,

The Lineage II Team

Hello, where's the November preview? what is happening because so many diconects? when will be next Red Libra??

Well we didn't have any sort of October preview at all, which dispels this statement. We didn't have an announcement for the fishing event either until we asked for one and Hime posted a belated statement on the forums. Albeit, there was a post made on the Lineage2.com homepage the day the fishing event started (not in the days leading up to), but that simply served to display a lack of content consistency and confusion on where a player should go to receive information.

...you can expect to see a new preview arrive in the coming days to detail the next major event on the schedule...
...Our hope is to have the next preview for you in the coming days...
We are not ready to release any information about the update at this time. This brings the "In The Coming Days" actual count tally up to 22+ days and counting.
STOP the fycking LAG and DC's and make a fycking PREVIEW on site.
L2 is at the end of the career... You not notice? Everything is going to ****? That is because they are going to stop updating L2 and soon stop events... This fish event is the one main event that made the most amount of money. No more updates, no more previews, no more information, no more GM's coming on forums to talk. This is all evidence towards the "End" of Lineage 2. Soon next announcement we will get is the closing of the servers.
It's not quite that bad. They'll keep the servers open as long as they are making money. But I would not be surprised if salvation was the last update for our servers.
hi for previews two posts. L2 wont stop on ncwest I assure u for that.
that paranoia is going on the forums for the last 5 years.
I can mention 1000 reasons but the most is we don't even know the costs of keeping the servers up which I assume its way to low ;) might also be 1$ we don't know that and well never know.

yiadao don't start posting quartermasterbuisensmodel rocket science that's for profit not for costs, and don't mention any nationalities and just don't talk :D

:D True that. Costs and profit are different things. Although NCwest as the company need pay employees. But I'm sure they sell enough carrots to afford few decent employees :D.
That's precisely why I regularly post this link to NCsoft's quarterly earnings reports:
http://global.ncsoft.com/global/ir/quarterly.aspx

On page 4 of the .pdf you can see clearly listed Sales, Operating Profit, Pre-Tax Income and Net Income. If you don't know what that means, here is a nice explanation:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earnings_before_interest_and_taxes

As far as costs are concerned, you can get an impression via NCsoft's job advertisements:
https://recruit.ncsoft.net/korean/careers/adoptionsection.aspx
Like for example the developers for "Lineage Camp", the latest mobile project, must be paid for at least 2 years without themselves generating any revenue. That's pure cost, and it is where the money from the NCoins that the dimwits at NCWest keep on purchasing is going to. No decent employees for YOU!

:D
