Hungry Horse IV Player Feedback Survey

News Archive Started Last reply 34 posts
Greetings!

Hungry Horse IV is nearing the end of its run on Wednesday, October 18, and we want to gather some basic feedback from players to get a feel for your experience with the fundamental components of this in-game event. We’ve put together a simple set of survey questions and would appreciate it if you’d take a few minutes to select the answers that best reflect your opinions.

All you have to do is pick your preferred option for each and hit “Vote Now,” then follow the link in the post below the poll to head to the next question. Once you’ve cast your votes for all poll questions you’ll be redirected back to this thread—we welcome additional civil, constructive feedback about the event you’d like to provide in reply here.

Voting will close Wednesday, October 18 at 11am PDT / 1pm CDT / 2pm EDT / 1600 GMT.

Unable to vote on the survey. But I'll put my 2 cents here. The "farmable" carrots was terrible drop rate, the purchaseabke carrots were and ok price. The event reward list was ok. The chance to get said event items was absolutely awful. The duration was good the bonus server settings were great.

You should be able to vote now. I wanted to keep all the other threads off this forum and locked from receiving new posts, but it looks like that prevents people from voting. :(

Thank you
In total, this event hardly made me stronger or richer - the most expensive item I got was a fragment of dark eternal stone (60m in adena). I've opened pouches like 15-20 times in total, sometimes I got runestone fragments, sometimes enchant scrolls, small Xman fragments, so I predict about 80-90kk worth of supplies this has been (and it is not enough, since it doesn't cover even 1/2 of the money invested).

I liked bonus server settings though, yet the horse event itself last for too long - I cant sell my elcyum stashes and armor scrolls (and will not be able for a long time after tomorrow), as well as other items listed as a reward; and the times of the settings being applied were rather uncomfortable for people - they'd rather see the bonus active daily in the evening, while spending holidays with their families.

The rate of a carrot drop was like OK, since in 1h you could sometimes farm for 3 pouches (120 items) - if you gather all the carrots gotten by the others combined. Price for NC? Considering how many items were present in the AH, as well as the price of the elcyum one can say that you could've put the price even lil' bit higher.

ps: for a solitary undergeared player it is nearly impossible to farm this items for getting "paid" (not "rich") at least a little: droprate is strongly biased to the killrate, while it could've been biased to the time (like not more that 1 carrot within 30 sec for X guy) - idk if it's possible, but, just as a fixed damage thingy on keucerus alliance base siege, it could've helped those people who 're in need.
I think previously the drop rates and the actually horses that appeared were ok. That got nerfed/removed to offer far less in game means to obtain the event items (carrots). The thought and motive behind this kinda change is *****. Weather this drop rate is a result of constantly suppressing server setting drop rates or just a nerf on top of previous events and already terrible server settings is something only you all will know.

The rewards, go from worthless to really awesome. The problem is, after you can't farm the carrots for hundreds of turn ins, you can't ever seem to win the good prize with hundreds of turn ins. If the fear is releasing too many blessed dragon jewels on the market, first off wtf cares, but mainly, take those off the reward list and turbo charge the rate of dark stones and lvl 5 legendary dyes and skill enchant books. OFC everyone needs the jewelry as well, but this can be better served by increasing the soul bottle drops for antharas and valakas, these are far to overvalued and under supplied in the server as it is.

Your primary objective for the foreseeable future, especially in regards to event planning, should be damage control and closing the player gap between whales and average players. This should be focused around making items that cannot be obtained in game, or are near unobtainable in game vastly more accessible. Everything since those **** cloaks came out has been bungled and overall bad for the health of L2 @ NCwest.

What you should do IMHO, on top of the above ideas, is every time you think something should be priced at 8000 NCoin, make it 4000. Every time you think a drop rate should be "x", make it "10x". This method will allow you to be less overbearing with the PAY US NOW OR ****!! mentality.

Major criticism revolves around the drop rate of the carrots (basically non-existant ingame, its unfair to even suggest this event had an intended ingame drop related function, as the drop rate was that bad)

Also the fact that an explicit forum post was made stating the rewards had remained the same, in turn myself and several others were excited about the possibility of getting/making Rulers Rings of Authority, as well as some other items.
However it became quickly apparent that it wasnt the case, the drop rates of certain things had been adjusted. Who needs all these tauti frags? Seriously?

Im working this off a sample size of about 10,000$ worth of carrots , so it is a reasonable sample size.

I genuinely wish that the drops were based on what the economy/community as a whole could benefit from.

Theres a real gear gap that prevents the game from functioning as would have been originally intended. (I doubt the game was ever intended for a single character in best of the best of the best gear to be able to take on with a reasonable chance of success 1-3 parties of mid/top geared toons)

Events like this are a phenomenal way to reduce the gear gap, and this one was mostly wasted due to the drop tables being poorly/not managed at all.
Overall 6.5/10.
Lots of potential to be good, missed the mark because of non-existent in-game drops, too many useless item as rewards that were received at far too high of a rate.

Edit: Conguero I realize I shouldnt have posted in all the different question threads, feel free to delete them and leave this one here.
Events like these I think would be better received if we could exchange item rewards for a token we could trade in for a specific reward from the event list. The problem is that people are spending $500 and ending up with a lot of runestone fragments, armor enchant scrolls, and kelbim and tauti weapon fragments. We're filling our inventories with items we don't want chasing the one item we do want - why not let us trade in unwanted event items for a currency/token that lets us buy our desired item?

The probability of getting certain items is also infuriating. The Divine Inspiration book 6 seemed to have about a 50x higher drop chance than the level 5 book, creating a horrific supply and demand bottleneck. Book 5s on chronos were selling for 4,000,000,000, whereas the book 6 was selling for only 10,000,000.

Drop rate of event items out in the field was atrocious. Soloing in Atelia Fortress, with prestige pack and 200% drop rate rune, I got 8 carrots after an hour of grinding. That's about 1200 mobs, and only 8 carrots. I understand that people in lower level areas had better success, but I find it rather infuriating that in high level zones a well-geared player can't scrounge up even 20% of the carrots needed to get a single pouch reward after 1 hour of hard grind.

Overall, the event felt exceptionally unrewarding.

(I should add, I did enjoy this event last year. The higher quality rewards were much more abundant)
I never experienced the other hungry horse events as I was inactive during those times, but I can say that everyone I play with was pumped for the event before it started. But after a few hours on the very first day when they saw the comparison of carrot drop rates and reward item rates they quickly told me not to spend my money and that the event had been extremely nerfed compared to previous iterations. The only things I found of value during this event were the augmentation fee removal and the EXP boost. My only complaint with those is that the lack of EXP boost during the week caused a number of players (myself included) to be excluded on some weekends. Not everyone has Monday - Friday school/work schedules, please keep that in mind next time.

The reward list had some great stuff at the top of course, but it was nearly impossible to get, and the rest (at the rate at which it was received) ended up being the equivalent of junk. A good example of disparity in rewards are Insane Kelbim Small Fragments and Frenzied Tauti's Small Fragments. At first glance this sounds like a good mid-tier reward, but when you actually look at what these items are and how they are used these items did literally nothing for players that earned them. You only need 1 fragment (10 small fragments) to craft an insane weapon, sure, but the key ingredient in that craft are the Tauti Crystals and Kelbim Crystals, only obtainable via crystallizing Tauti and Kelbim weapons. Why not make those crystals a reward? THAT is a worth-while mid-tier reward.

Additionally, having the Maphir Wind Scrolls be removed after November 1 is a bummer.

At this point I feel your staff should well know and understand the issues, as the community has been loud and clear about them. Regardless of whether concerns were presented in a constructive or hostile manner, the overall takeaway should be that the players love this game but are absolutely distraught by the obvious negligence in maintaining the integrity of it. Regardless, I appreciate the effort of making this thread and the polls.

P.S. I suggest straw poll or google docs poll for the next one rather than multiple threads. :)
I'm glad you starting survey the players about this events.
Hope that the info gathered is used somehow.

EDIT:
Most of this events are filling the server with potential valuable items that right now will be worthless forever thanks to this events. (Ex: Franzied Fragments/Intermediate Books/Bottle frags/etc..)

I would focus on creating methods of removing the excess of this items from your servers.

As an example you have the system created on Korea to transform epic jewels into new upgraded jewels, same could be applied to some of this items. For example you could create a system to gamble this franzied fragments into tauti/kelbim crystals or tauti/kelbim weapons, a system to use bottles to improve the same type of jewel, put a decent npc sell price for those ancient books, etc...
The ingame drop rate was almost non existent, farm for 2 hours lucky if 7 carrots.
Greetings!
Yours,

The Lineage II Team

Also, I wanted to submit the idea (actually I did, but idk reads the team our suggestions thread or not) about bonus server settings:

please consider making & including free dual/revelation skill removal for the further events as well.
Is it really worth making feedback on an event that will be discontinued?
Unless you are willing to reverse everything that was launched this year in the not-too-distant future.

My wish is that this event of the Hungry Horse would be perpetually, being annually as it always was.
The disappearance of the hungry galup in the open areas was quite disappointing.
At least he had the air of grace to hunt them down and be able to feed them. It was fun to read their dialogues.
Anyway, since this year it was not possible to bring them back. Unfortunate.
I handed in carrots for 2 (two) pouches. Got crap for them ofc. I did some solo factions stuff, almost daily some faction stuff with CP, and all in all I got around 100 carrots in the last 3 weeks. Big lol.

The abyssmal droprate is probably set so because of 24/7 macro players/farmers.

Let the devs build a system like our XP-Vitality for event-drops. As long as you have Drop-Vitality on (1 or 2 hour/day) you get event drops at a normal rate, after that u can *** it up as u did here.
So superion 105 area and bloody swamplands 85 area . So the probability of receiving a carrot could be bigger in the 85 lvl area ? Shouldn’t the 105 area drop more carrots ? Allso why even a lvl 40 area drops same amount of carrots as the 105 areas ? Does this helps bots who farm 24/7 ? In any other server the drop from harder mobs should be better than the easy mobs but here it’s the oposite .

Book 6 2 years ago was selling for 6-8 billions and book 5 was as selling for 1 billion .

+111
In my opinion the problem was the falling rate of the carrots. This factor links all others. If you drop more carrots you consequently open up more Galup and have a higher chance of getting more valuable items, but with a very low rate you take 40 and when it opens comes a Stone Augment Mid Grade, this being frustrating.

The fall rate factor links everyone else, think about it.
I cant be unfair with you; I didnt get Giant 15% P. critical damage after spending 15b and 800 hero coins :P (the only thing I expected), but by the way i got big profit buyin & selling things, was funny every day make control of my bussines. The price of carrots pack was good, the bonus event too.

The bad was the drop rate of carrots; the people who cant pay or doesnt want spend money, must to have almot a chance for retribute the collecting time carrots by the event.

Thanks for Player Feedback Survey.
I have a serious, if obvious, question: Why are you conducting this survey?

You have already announced that this is the last time you will ever do this event, so it can't be to make this event better.

You already have gotten tons of feedback telling you the drop rates were too low, the chances of getting anything decent from the pouches were too low, and the settings changes were great (though limiting the exp boost to the weekends was a problem for some).

What do you hope to learn from this survey that you have not already been told, many times, on this forum? And will you actually use this feedback to improve future events?
red libra start tomorrow?

I would suggest Players not to purchase/open the Galup's Special Luck Pouches this time. The drop chances of certain items have deteriorated compared to previous Hungry Horse events.

Frenzied Tauti's Small Fragment and Insane Kelbim's Small Fragment can be destroyed/deleted on sight. There is no need/use for them without proper supply of Kelbim and Tauti Crystals to even start crafting the Enhanced versions of these weapons. I wondered if NCwest mixed up between the Insane Fragments and Crystals? Kelbim need 10 Crystals and 1 Insane Fragment. The market being flooded with 1 million Insane Fragments without a supply of x 10 Crystals for each Craft = USELESS.

The balance between Ancient Book: Divine Inspiration (Beginner) [5th SLOT] and Ancient Book: Divine Inspiration (Intermediate) [6th SLOT] is totally wasted. IMO the drop chances are totally messed up. Players are taking 10 6th SLOT books before even taking 1 5th SLOT book. IMO it should have been vice versa. 5th SLOT books should have dropped 10 times more then the 6th SLOT books, that are supposedly more RARE. ATM the Intermediate can also be NPC'ed/Deleted/Destroyed the moment you take them.

EWR; BEWR and Elcyum all can be brought to the NPC the moment you take them for sell.

IMO the drop chances of the following items should have been bigger:

Superior Giant's Codex - Chapter 1;
Superior Giant's Codex - Mastery Chapter 1;
Ancient Book: Divine Inspiration (Beginner);
Bottle Fragments (any);
Source of the Emperor;
Ring of Creation.

Last year after opening 1.000 Galup's Special Luck Pouches you would take average ~75 Source of the Emperor. Now after opening 1.000, if you are lucky, only 2!

Other Drops are same as previous year. Full Soul Bottles, decent as expected. Average 1 per 1.000. Dark & Bloody Eternal Stones, fair amoounts per 1.000. Especially if u like to get Bloody Set now.

I think NCwest should look into the Kelbim/Tauti drops. I think instead of Enhanced Fragments it should have been Crystals. The Ancient Books should have vice versa droprate. The 5th SLOT should drop more often then 6th SLOT and not the other way around.
Alot of Feedback was already given within the first couple of days of this Event.

As u can see from poll results people just getting upset that they cannot fair pvp vs very rich players who are able to add exponentially more value to their power every single p2w event. All you need to do is provide a way of getting items to catch up by at least 70%. It is not necessary to do this 3-4 month. People who pay for service have to enjoy their power but after this time period you need give them a challenge by reducing their power gap between ordinary players.

The gap is already huge, good luck on fixing that :) Wanna start balancing the game with few steps? Make topaz, tanzanite and any other other active brooch skills to 3 mins reuse and not 30 secs (nc west exclusive), this add will bring more ppl in olys that now days avoid to join due to overpowered items, bring old drop rates to open field areas and instanced raid bosses, this add will motive the players to start farm again and make their toons stronger by the loot they gain. Nc West should start respect ppls time too, no just ppls wallets, time has value too, 10 years old+ players getting pwned by 4-5 months players, that doesn't make any sense, on any game that i played 1st time i see such unbalanced stuff.
Every item should be available for every player after few months, not after decades of farm, i understand that ppl who spend a lot in store should have some items 1st since they pay real money for them or since they don't have time to farm, but again this is the 1st game that i ever played where ppl who don't spend $$ in store re not able to have same items as top spenders through farming, this is nc west exclusive too i guess:)
The biggest joke on mmorpg games is that all players complaining about p2w until they play Lineage 2 on nc west, then they understand what p2w really means!
Before you try anything else, start thinking about ur players/costumers and the time/money that they have already spent for this game, but only if u really want to have a chance to regain your old fame/reputation as L2 Nc West.
I have a serious, if obvious, question: Why are you conducting this survey?

You have already announced that this is the last time you will ever do this event, so it can't be to make this event better.

For one, it's a way of collecting feedback on events and promotions generally. You are correct that Hungry Horse is retiring, but the survey questions were intentionally framed to be relevant for other events and promotions. We want to keep the survey questions pretty consistent each time so we can compare how results may differ from one event to the next.

And yes, we've received a lot of feedback about the event. We like when players can offer perspective in a productive way. We pay attention to that on our end. However, sometimes it's more effective to provide a straightforward, cut-and-dry report to the Dev Team, so they can easily see statistics behind sentiment and the number of players who voted in the survey. It's data that can more clearly be analyzed and weighed against other metrics on in-game participation rates, store sales, etc., and lets us show how many people are actually voting in these surveys. Just as an example, oftentimes a thread that's reached 20+ pages of mostly negative responses can be misleading, as many of the active posters in the thread are replying several times—it's not always the massive outpouring from the community as it may at first appear to be, even if the sheer volume of negative sentiment is itself still indicative of an issue.

I'm sensitive to, and understanding of the fact that a survey that essentially limits feedback to positive/neutral/negative doesn't allow for more nuanced opinions, or suggestions for how to improve aspects of an event. At the same time though, for the purposes of generating a simple sentiment report with transparent polling data, it eliminates muddied feedback, ranting, conspiracy theories, etc.

To be clear, we're still reading and collating feedback via every means possible. That's in part why I encouraged players to respond to this thread with additional comments. The decision to start conducting surveys at the conclusion of events and store promotions is to extrapolate very specific, defined data that'll hopefully help us continue to tailor content to better suit as many players as possible going forward.

Yours,

The Lineage II Team
evento foi péssimo, quem deu aval para uma taxa de drop ridicula dessa? certamente nao sabe nada sobre jogar qualquer coisa
Thank you, Conquero, for your serious and thoughtful reply. I had not thought about the potential use of survey results in your discussions with the development team. That makes sense.

You might want to consider a survey question next time that asks whether we would prefer 100% exp. boost on weekends (as it was this time), 100% exp. boost between, say, 6 p.m. and midnight server time every day, or 50% boost 24/7 for the duration of the event. It seems to me that questions like that might be more useful than the questions you asked this time, which generated quite predictable answers.

As I believe you have acknowledged, the main problem with the game right now is the impossibly huge gap between the honest, free-to-play players and the ncoin buying super players. Obviously, there has to be a gap, to encourage people to purchase ncoins, but the gap cannot be as large as it is right now, or people will leave the game in droves, as they clearly are. Thus, every event, and every change to the game, should take this in to account and be designed to narrow that gap. In this case, that meant the game should have had more in-game drops, not fewer. In fact, it would be useful to have some events that do not have an ncoin component at all. Consider the effect of this event if the only way to get carrots was through drops (with nearly every mob dropping a carrot)and the odds of getting the better items were substantially improved. Sure, the folks who macro 24/7 on many accounts would gain an advantage, but at least the free-to-play players would have a real chance of gaining ground on the big spenders.

Thanks again for your reply.
Hello Conguero , can i give you suggestion about event when u put event can some from ncsoft staff buy ur promo pack and open it to see what will get and what can do with this crap rewards probaly will have enchants, crystals or any other kind of worse item , 99-101 range level ppls need items to can get invite in party or if want try to kill any mobs with that rewards , if they cost 2-8mil or reward must be x10 ,also any from ur staff who know where its giran or aden to log and see what ppl need and put it on rewards example its time to put as rewards sealed jewely 1-3 lvl ruby, opal and others many ppl miss this brooch jewels this will help them a lot have and more things just staff must log and see ppl what want and try to help them with time. no one tell that events must be evry month but on 4-6 months can have event where ppls from 85-102 range to feel it, also to be smart event and not rich ppls to get advantage
The poll results were interesting. It would appear I am not the only one disappointed with the broken event.

Shame on NCSoft for even running such a broken event. No horses in the field to obtain more pouches automatically lost 50% of the drop potential. The quest item drop rate ( carrots ) in the field was pathetic. I had posted a couple times how many carrots in how many hours for a party of two and it was far less than sufficient to participate in the event.

My suggestion is that in future, even if NCSoft announces a particular event is upcoming that they change the announcement and not run the event if they know it will be broken. Running a broken event makes NCSoft appear even more greedy than it may actually be in providing only event items via NCcoin purchases.

I will not comment on the rewards as I only ever obtained enough carrots to turn for one pouch. Obviously after the first few tries to farm carrots i gave it up and quit. Once i saw how broken the event was i didn't participate.

I just think it's sad that so many other people participated and spent real money on quest items from the L2Store. i see this as encouraging NCSoft to continue hosting broken events in future because it will further line NCSoft's pockets with real money spent.

My suggestion is to provide events that have real drop rates and real rewards in-game for the people who can't spend $$$$$$$$$ on L2Store quest items. Bring the game back for the real people and give everyone more of a level playing field.

And not just event drops and items but bring back drops and items to the game as a whole. Every upgrade, every update, something new is nerfed, something more is taken away from people who are willing to grind and work hard to develop their characters. NCSoft continues to make it harder for the non-spending player base to participate fully in the game. shall we call that discrimination?
The only thing you need to understand is that if you raise the reward for ppl
on event you will have more ppl playing this game again.
We farmed as CP like min 3 / 4 hours everyday at Atelia Fortress 2 with average XP of 800bil per hour without boost expect clanbuff and freya XP 100% passiv from exalted. so you get an image of kill speed.
5 ppl had 200% drop rate rune + prestige droprate rune.

So at all we farmed like 4,5k carrots what i think is a bad joke.
maybe there are places with better droprate of carrots but from what i hear that was not the case.

I could accept that fact if i not had heard from so many players that they investet like 2k euro $ or what ever and only blowed this cash out of the window becouse they recived a ****.

you realy think that motivate players that have cash to spend it on this game?

Get real and stop pls give a **** on your clients
But as far i Know NC-West, what is about 13 years, nothing will change
so only solution is to get his stuff save is RMT tell me why you presure your clients to akt against eula just to have fun ingame.

SO pls stop be cheapass and give higher reward rate at events i think most of community will love that and start buy ncoins again.

NO thanks for this crap event btw
and i guess fishing event now is a new scam for XP that is easy to get soon

NO Good Luck FOR YOU and big up for L2 players
It's frustrating. The consensus here is that the main problem is that the huge disparity between the honest free-to-play players and the big ncoin spenders. So what do you do. Start an event (the fishing event) that can ONLY be participated in by spending large amounts of ncoin. This exacerbates the problem. Oh, yeah, the people who try to play for free can buy bait from other players with adena. Woops, you've been busy taking away their ability to earn adena in game, the latest example being the end of the ability to make adena fishing.

You ask questions (surveys) and appear to listen to the answers and even, in your comments you say you made to the dev team, acknowledge the problem. Then you go and make it worse! So, are you really listening?

Seriously, do you really want only players who are going to spend significant money to play the game? If so, why not just say so and move on? If not, how about having events that encourage the little guys, not events (and actions) that shut them out?

By the way, let me suggest another survey question: We are going to do the letter event again. Would you rather (a) all letters drop from mobs, even the rare ones with some frequency (the way it used to be before ncoins); (b) all letters would drop from mobs, including the rare ones, but the rare ones would also be available for purchase with ncoins; or (c) only the common letters would drop from mobs with ncoin purchases being the only way to obtain the rare letters (as has been done the last few times). This would certainly give you more useful information than these Hungry Horse questions, especially if you actually act on it by doing the event the way the people want it.

TO NC

Here it is very clear that you only play the role of a pawn for NC(is not ur fault , is u job bro) , do not tell us what we really want to hear and politely evade what we really asked, technically it is a beating of a ncsoft politician: D, to exemplify better

"And yes, we've received a lot of feedback about the event."

Noooooo, u (NC) received a lot of a NEGATIVE feedback from event and made this survey just bcs this event wil no longer exist, to make us feel hopefull about the game. This negative feedback is very clear on all forum, pff its a shame answer .... try to hide this behind conspiracy of "to much negative feedback is not indicative of nothing ....."

And the most obvious example of you (NC) not listening to us is putting a fishing event at an exorbitant price, with fishing totally broken in exchange for the elcy, and come here on the forum with poker face treating us like children with no solid answers. foundation and no future, just curling and pushing the players for a while with the belly ....

Just be ashamed in the face and be like a company of respect, because you (NC) all earn very easy money with low rates of drop, exorbitant prices in the store with a old game... and 12k ncois per fishing baits? Really? this is a professional fishing rod in real life bro 3 or 4 indeed..., shameful, better not to have answered anything and done in favor of the players who are touching your face the discontent.

Nothing against u (Conguero) brother, but all agaist to
try to make a fool of us.

GN and whatever that old players since before GOD and Visa card players write here, they have all, i'm writing here in favor of ppl that lose paulina set in 99 lvl and have no chance in instances and whatever in game after it, no bot ppl , and honest players that pick up scrol modify armor in drops.....
They should be making such events more often, perhaps they should stop merging servers and open new, fresh because people migrating to other games.
@conguero, I see the benefit of conducting this polls, but for future polls please verify the settings or use a different data collection tool. I was unable to answer 2 of the poll questions because it said I had already answered them, this of course is inaccurate. If you want reliable polls you need to make sure the data collection process works properly.
